Upgrading RAM to 4 GB
I bought a MacBook in the end of May and wanted to upgrade its RAM to 4 GB as I use my notebook quite a bit for video editing of footage of family trips and children's activities. Presently it has a pair of 1 GB (2 GB total). Would I be able to do that and would this computer fully avail of the upgrade or it's one of those that only has 3.3 usable RAM thingy?
TIA for all your kind and informative replies.
Thank you for the quick response GDF!
Now it seems that one of the pair of the 2GB RAM modules (x2) I just got in the mail from Corsair is corrupted! So I would need to have it replaced by them.
Meanwhile, where should I install the one good 2GB memory module alongside one of the factory installed 1 GB memory chips, in the bank/dimm 1 or the bank/dimm 0?
Thanks once again.

Upgrading RAM and SSD on MacBook Pro 15" mid 2009
Hey,
I want to upgrade RAM and SSD on my macbook pro, identifier 5,3, and I want to make sure the parts I picked will be compatible with my Macbook.
I'm specifically not sure about its support of 512GB.
I thought about RAM:

Thanks!" I have also created a back up on Time Machine (I think I did)."

Once you think you've done it correctly restart and hold down the option key or go to "System Preferences" under the Apple and look at "Startup Disk".
That will tell which Disks are bootable.
Now about that Crucial drive:

It's not clear to me that this issue was resolved. The last post goes nowhere!

Just did two including this MacBook Pro early 2011 13" and a 2012 Mini. Total no-brainer! The way I like it. -

Will upgrading ram improve speed in Mac and windows (VMware fusion)?
I Am using VMware fusion for music production and that program requires a lot of workspace. I have a MacBook Pro 4gb ram and when I turn VMware on it goes to 2 gb ram in Mac and 2 gb ram in windows. My Mac speed is normal when VMware fusion is turned off but when I turn it on my Mac is very slow. Will upgrading ram improve speed in mac and also in windows (windows is also very slow)
Btw my english isn't very goodAdding RAM only makes it possible to run more programs concurrently. It doesn't speed up the computer nor make games run faster. What it can do is prevent the system from having to use disk-based VM when it runs out of RAM because you are trying to run too many applications concurrently or using applications that are extremely RAM hungry. It will improve the performance of applications that run mostly in RAM or when loading programs.
In your case it will most likely help. You should plan on at least 8 GBs or more, depending upon what your model supports. -

How do you make RAM faster without upgrading RAM?
I have a Mac Mini 2014 and you can't upgrade RAM in it. Is there a way to make my RAM faster?
iMovie_Maker wrote:
Do you think 4 GB is enough
Enough for what?
The engine in my car puts out 200 HP. That's more than enough given the power to weight ratio of the vehicle and considering the type of driving I do with it commuting to work and the occasional road trip. If fails miserably when attempting to drag race the guy down the street with the Dodge Viper putting out somewhere around 660 HP. -
Info on upgrading RAM and Hard Disk on late-2011 Macbook Pro
Hello everyone,
I would like some info from anyone regarding upgrading RAM on my macbook pro (13inch, late 2011 model) from 4GB to 8GB. Will the notebok support 8GB and if so, is it something that you can do yourself or should it be taken to an Apple store ?
Also, my notebook currently has a 320GB hard-disk drive, that I would like to swap for a 320GB/480GB SSD. Again, which models are compatible with my notebook, and whether I can swap it out myself, or should I let an Apple technician at the store do it for me?
Thanks and regards to all ..Yes. You can upgrade that machine to 8 GB. I have the same machine. I think you can do 16 GB but the RAM is quite a bit more money. You can do it yourself with a small enough screwdriver. I doubt the Apple Store would install 3rd party RAM and you don't want to pay Apple prices for it.
A hard drive is about the same. Once you open the case, you can replace both. I suggest OWC. They have the tools, instructions, the RAM, the hard drives, etc. They even sell external enclosure kits so you can upgrade your internal drive and use the old drive an an external for archiving data. -
Is it possible to upgrade RAM in MacbookAir 4,1?
Is it possible to upgrade RAM in MacbookAir 4,1 Late 2011, 2G to 4G?
MacBook Airs are designed with a purpose that differentiates them from the rest of the Macbook line. That is to place weight and size reduction at one of the highest of priorities. In doing so, compromises have to be made. Upgradeable memory takes up addional space, in that it requires acessability and a slot interface, bot of which would add both weight and dimensional size to accomodate it. By making the memory an integral part of the logicboard, the computer can be made thinner.
So, when you buy somthing of the MBA's form factor, you have to pay special attention to buying the computer with all the options available at time of purchase that you & the computer will ever need, where those components are not upgradeable for space and weight consideration.
The MacBook Air, despite the desire, is not just a shrunken MacBook Pro. Space and weight savings is of a higher priority than is upgradeability in the MBA. -

Can't upgrade RAM on new Macbook Pros?
I'm preparing to buy a new Macbook Pro, and have been told that the RAM that comes with the book is the RAM you get. No upgrade possible because the RAM modules are soldered into place. Is that so? I've always upgraded our computers to the max. Thanks in advance.
That is indeed so.
There still appears to be one model (13" Mid 2012) that is still available that has upgradable RAM. -
I have a Macbook Pro late 2012 model with intel processor and 4G of RAM. I upgraded to Yosemite and now my system is so slow. I do not have a backup to revert to because of insufficient space. I have ordered a 1T external drive to do a backup now. What can I do to improve my system performance? Do I need to upgrade RAM or do I have to reinstall Mtn Lion?

Has anyone had issues upgrading RAM?
I have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro 13" It has had its operating system updated around 3 months ago.
Today I tried putting 2 kingston 4GB RAM cards in and it refused to accept them. It would think at start up and then freeze.
The computer shop guy said he has never seen a mac do what mine was doing. We tried an alternative hard drive and several different type of RAM cards.
My mac would only accept the original samsung 1067 mHz 2GB cards.
Its operating at terribly low speeds.
I tried updating firmware but, no firmware updates will work at all and a message says; "software not supported on this system"
Any ideas?
Thanks peepsI have upgraded RAM in many of my Macs over the years. There were times (in the past) when I got the cheapest RAM I could find, and would have problems, and need to exchange it.
Lately, I've used Crucial for my RAM needs, and I've been very happy. OWC (MacSales.com) is also highly respected in Mac related forums both here and elsewhere.
My most recent upgrades were my Macbook Pro to 8GB, and my 27" iMac to 16GB, my Wife's older Macbook Pro to 6GB, my Mac mini to 3GB, before that my white Macbook to 4GB. All of these have been from Crucial and have worked without any problems. -
