Upgrading Raw Conversion X-Trans Censors

Good Morning,
I a thinking of upgrading my LR to the new 5.  I was able to try Irdient new upgrade for X-Trans and my file are so much more crisp and detailed then they are in LR with your support for the X-Trans.  Are you going to upgrade you support to match those of Irdient.  I am sure you have read the reviews and have used the product for your own edificaiton.  If you are not, I may have to switch, my business depends on my best product.

I am running 4.4.  Adobe may want to see for themselves the difference in the raw conversion.  Please let me know if an upgrade is in the works.

What version of LR have you tested with the X-Trans sensor? I believe it was upgraded in LR 4.4. Have you tried LR5 a thirty day trial is available for free.

  • Fuji X-trans raw conversion

I have both the Fuji X-E1 and the X100s. The conversions of the raw files in ligtroom, while much better than they were, still have a way to go to match raw conversion from programs like Photo ninja and Iridient. I'm wondering if Adobe is working on improving the raw conversion of X-Trans files in lightroom. Love lightroom, but the raw conversion of fuji files is still problematic in areas of fine detail, like tree branches and leaves. The effect is something like an halo around these features, and is worse once the files is sharpened.

I'm very interested in this topic, too. Actually, I'm sure there are tenth of thousands of photographers interested, including professionals. I just purchased Lightroom, but this is a great chance for Adobe's competitors to get clients. Let's see if Adobe answers to this thread, and if they will do something to fix the poor X-Trans (but also micro 4/3 like Olympus OM-D E-M1) support. They have the experience to do something in very short times, let's see...

  • RAW conversion in 2 then update to 3 and its RAW conversion

I noticed that when I upgraded from 2 to 3 then 3.1, Aperture notified me that the RAW conversion it did in 2 is not the same as 3 and, would I like the 3 conversion done? When I said yes to one test image, it came out considerably darker.
What have people been doing with that change and, is it happening generally to all RAW conversions to 3 with most camera brands and models?
My preference is to leave them as version 2 as I always like the way Aperture handled RAW. There was a test comparison of RAW converters a year or so ago (I think it was a French site) and Aperture 2 held its own and was my preference.
So now I am wondering, how will new previews be when I import them into version 3? (Have not shot anything lately.) Since I prefer the Aperture 2 RAW to JPEG converter, can I set Aperture 3 to convert more like that?

I don't really want to reimport.
By processor do you mean RAW processor?
It's not that the new RAW in v.3 is bad, it is just darker.
I read up more in Aperture Help. Apple seems to indicate that one might like to keep the earlier RAW processed images and you can. Although, from the sounds of it, they make the v.3 RAW converter sound much better than v.2.
So, still, I just don't know how to "process" this issue myself.
How have others upgrading from 2 to 3 dealt with it and, did you notice the darker image after the conversion? Did anyone keep the v.2 processed images?

Perhaps never.  The last version in series 3 was: 3.6 and if you have got it then it will be the last one.  If it is just one off thing then you can use the trial version of LR 4.1 otherwise you will have to buy an upgrade.
I take it you have done the upgrade by going to:

Good luck and let us hope you can do something about this.

  • RAW conversion for Canon 5D Mark II

I can't open my raw files from my Mark II I have PSE 6 and have upgraded my raw conversion to 5.2 it still won't recongnize my .cr2 raw files from my Mark II it recongnizes my .cr2 from my 40D whats up?

Some of the Adobe download links are wrong and take you to an earlier version of Adobe Camera Raw. The latest version is ACR 5.6 which brings support for the newest camera models such as:
Canon EOS 7D, PowerShot S90 & G11, Nikon D3S and others. It’s also backward compatible and will support all earlier models including the EOS5DmkII.
First you will need to exit Photoshop Elements.
To get the plug-in for PSE6 go to the link below - instructions are for Windows users. They will differ for Mac users.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=4626&fileID=4303
Download the plug-in for Elements 8
Open the zip folder you just downloaded and click Extract Files.
You should see a 64 bit folder and a plug-in file below it. The plug in has a file name: Camera Raw.8bi
Now drag the plug-in file (or copy it) into the File Formats folder in the following location:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 6.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats.  See Gotcha
If running windows Vista you will probably get a pop-up requesting Administrator permission. Assuming you are the Administrator for your computer, simply agree.
I can confirm it does work as I have recently updated my plug-in for PSE6 using the above method. To test it, go to one of your photo folders, right click on a raw file (NEF, CR2, DNG etc) and select open with Photoshop Elements. The image should automatically open in ACR 5.6 giving you access to the latest slider adjustments, including white balance and exposure.
Note: If you have an earlier Camera Raw plug-in, I suggest you move it from the File Formats folder to My Documents before you begin. This will prevent it being overwritten by the new Camera Raw file (it will have the same name) and you can always move it back again if the download installation fails.
If you are using a 64-bit edition of Windows, then move the plug-in file from the unzipped download folder by navigating to:C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 6.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats.

  • Aperture 3 Raw conversion from Nikon D700 - Bad results - Anyone?

I recently upgraded to a Nikon D700 and have noticed I am getting some really bad conversion results from my raw files which involve my having to do a lot of work to get decent images. Most images are too dark and with strong orange cast... Any ideas? I thought it might be the camera, so I tried another computer with photoshop raw converter and images are fine. I have noticed the original import settings are strange on Aperture but cannot seem to change them, they always revert back to maximum hue boost and max boost ect... Any help would be great! thanx!

I have a Nikon D700 and have just tried the Aperture demo- same results as you guys, disappointing RAW conversion. Contrast and sharpness quite poor and blues are 'off'
I currently use Capture NX and was looking for something a little less 'clunky'. Though it may not be as slick as Aperture, its RAW conversion is spot on (as you would expect from a Nikon sponsored app)
It's easy to compare the differences- open an unedited RAW file in Capture NX and save as an uncompressed, 16 bit TIFF. Import this and the original RAW file into Aperture. Prepare for disappointment :-/

  • Missing Exposure EXIF Metadata After RAW Conversion

I am running Photoshop CS6 on a 64-bit Windows 7 PC.  Since upgrading from CS5 I have noticed that the Exposure EXIF metadata as viewed in Bridge vanishes after RAW conversion/adjustment of my images.  I've read at least one other posting to the forums describing a similar situation, however, I've not seen an acknowledgement of an issue or bug in Bridge.  Clearing the RAW conversion settings restores the missing EXIF metadata.

  • RAW conversion look terrible

With the upgrade to iPhoto 6, RAW conversions from my D70 now look horribly noisy after increasing exposure. For that matter they look terrible when nothing has been done to them. What is going on!?
Left is Preview and Right is iPhoto with out any adjustments.

  • Panasonic LX3 raw conversion problem

In Snow Leopard I had no problem with raw conversions with my Panasonic LX3 in Aperture, after ugrading to Lion my pictures come out very very dark with a deep green tinge.
Does any one have any ideas what might be causing it. All the camera setting are normal and Aperture reads Nikon raw files perfectly.
    Mike

What version of Aperture are you using?
In MacOS Lion the raw conversion has been moved into the MacOS, but Aperture does not find the raw support for some cameras innitially.
    Two things to try:
Force the generation of new previews by holding down the option key while selecting "Update Preview"
If this only happened after you upgraded to 10.7.4 and worked well before, then register your camera with the lauch services database - see this post by Alan Roseman:Aperture 3 preview of raw file greenish, but read the follow up posts first (the lsregister command) as well, on how it is supposed to work and how to correct the typos.
Added: if that does not help, try to remove the raw presets from ~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/RawDecodePresets.plist, to force a rebuild.

  • When does the RAW conversion take place in Aperture?

Hi, could anyone tell me when Aperture makes the RAW conversion of files?
is it upon import to Aperture or upon export to an external editor for retouching? i'm just wondering when to import my files into Aperture from Bridge.before i start using Aperture full time.is it ok to do it now or will i get better results when 1.1 arrives?
    thanks, Aidan

You can do it now and then pick the new RAW engine after upgrading to 1.1. If your RAW images are the originals from Bridge, you will have nothing to loose by converting all of them using the new 1.1 engine. Of course, I would play with a test project to better understand the new engine's capabilities, presets, and features.

  • I have an A77 and see that DxO RAW conversions look different

Several RAW conversion comparisons on the web amongst A77 users are pointing to markedly better conversions and noise handling currently within new DxO 7 eg. http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1037&thread=39970661
I know that Sony's RAW have historically taken a while to arrive at optimal conversions from previous experinece with my A350. When Lightroom 3 came along it was like getting new cameras for most Sony Alpha users with from RAW performance at last matching Nikon from effectively the same sensors.
Can you let me know the likely time lag till ACR and Lightroom will have an update to this initial default to really match the DxO performance. Otherwise, to be honest, despite being a Lightroom user since the original Beta stages and a passionate supporter and advocate, I may have to consider jumping ship. Working exclusively in RAW I do need to be using the very best conversions possible to make the best out of my investment in my camera equipment.
I don't know if this lag with ARW conversions is because Sony don't co-operate with Adobe early enough or whether because Sony is only number three in DSLR share it gets less priority within Adobe than Canon and Nikon, but some timeline on a revised version of Lightroom to address this for the new Sony Alphas would be great.
Many thanks from a long time advocate who really hopes I can stick with Lightroom,
    Cheers,
    Paul

    Hi Hal,
Many thanks...I’ll give it a try. Not trying to cause trouble as I genuinely am a fan of LR, but if they always lag on getting to grips with Sony RAWs it’s a major drawback for Sony users.
    Cheers,
    Paul

  • ABAP and Kernel Patches for Upgrade and Conversion in 4.6C

    Hi,
We are in a process of upgrade and unicode conversion for the source release 4.6C (Kernel  46D_EXT Patch 2225).
"Combined Upgrade&Unicode Conversion Guide"  for "SAP Basis 4.6C u2192 SAP NetWeaver 7.0 application Server ABAP Unicode Including Enhancement Package 1 Support Package 01 - 06" , In Software Requirements step,  it says
"3. Import 4.6D Kernel patch 2326 from SAP Service Marketplace according to SAP Note 19466"
We wanted to know whether "IT IS ABSOLUTELY NECCESSARY TO GO FOR THE KERNEL PATCH 2326".  We dont have "EBCIDIC code pages" in our MDMP system.
We need to know  becauase we are also doing OS migration from AIX to Sun and this step will add to our production downtime.
Please advice what are the other causes we should go for the kernel 2326.
    Regards

    Hello Mr. Nils Buerckel,
    Thanks for the reply.
We wanted to be very sure whether we should used Kernel 46D Kernel patch 2326 (As it is specifically mentioned in the SAP CU&UC guide and in SAP Note 867193, It is mentioned that  "This patch contains enhancements that are required to execute the "INDX Analysis" scan)
    OR
Can we go for the latest kernel patch avaialable at market place? And Will the latest kernel patch also contains the "enhancements that are required to execute the "INDX Analysis" ?
    Please reply
    Thanks

  • Lightroom vs. Photoshop Raw conversion

I have noticed that the Lightroom RAW conversion looks about 1/3 to 1/2 stop brighter compared to Photoshop on the same image with the same settings (I'm using LR 2.4 and Photoshop CS4).  Anybody else notice this or have any thoughts?  I'm assuming they use the same RAW conversion engine.

Thanks for the response.  Well, when I export from LR to a JPEG and do the same from Photoshop (viewing them in photoshop), I get two slightly different toned images (I mistakenly said the LR images are brighter...they're actually darker).  Viewing them this way should remove any monitor discrepencies (I'm working on a calibrated Lacie 724 monitor with 120% Adobe 1998 gamut so that should not be an issue).

  • Panasonic Lumex DMC-LX1 raw conversion for Aperture doesn't work.

I've seen many people having raw conversion problems. Direct import of Lumex raw files to Aperture does not work.
Adobe DNG conversion of raw to dng does not work.
    I'm running on Photoshop CS.
Perhaps my DNG conversion settings aren't right? Tell me what they should be.
Do I have to go as far as changing the raw.plist or whatever it's called.
Would CS2 with the Raw conversion Plug-in work instead?

    Joe,
good to see that you are reading these posts. I am sure that many users whose cameras' raw files are currently not supported by Aperture would love to help out in any way they can.
However, as we are living in a converging world, why doesn't Apple talk with Adobe and share some of the information used for RAW conversion? I'm thinking dcraw which (according to a note in its source code*) is using data provided by Adobe... and that same data is also contained in the Raw.plist.
Thus, if Adobe knows something and shares it with dcraw, and Apple uses some of the dcraw code (at least the m2 matrices found in Raw.plist are equal to the dcraw ones), why can't you guys all share the same information, and thus speed up RAW support for all cameras?
    Just a thought.
    Kindest regards,
    Karl

  • "Unable to save the raw conversion settings. There was a write permission error."

I just built a new workstation for processing photos using PS CS5. I use external drives to store my images as I find it easier for backing up as well as for when I want use my laptop for sorting, etc.. I copied over all my old "Collection" files, and of course, had to "fix" them once on the new machine. Once pointed in the right direction, the collections all fill out correctly.
When I go to process a collection though, I encounter an odd problem I can't seem to sort out. I can delete files, rename files, copy/paste to the external drives, etc.. What I can't seem to do is add Labels, Ratings, or modify RAW settings. I mean, I can use ACR to make adjustments, I just can't seem to save them.
The system just ignores label, rating commands completely. When I try to save an ACR adjustment I get this error. "Unable to save the raw conversion settings. There was a write permission error."
The files are NOT write protected. I'm set up as the owner of my workstation, with complete control of the system. I can't seem to find any useful information about this error because the "write permission error" seems to only be happening on installs, so that's all I can find help for.
    My system:
    Intel Core i7 970@ 3.20GHZ
    24.0 GB RAM
    64-bit OS - Windows 7 Pro
    DX58S02 Motherboard
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580

Thanks for replying. I've been going crazy trying to fix this.
To answer your first question; I use sidecar XMP files. If everything from my archive was shot in RAW I'd try converting to DNG and see if embedding the changes directly in a file worked. Unfortunately, a lot of my old stuff was shot in JPG, so sidecars seems to be the best choice.
When I add labels, ratings, as well as change RAW settings on files I place on my workstations HD everything works. It's only when I try to do these things with the same files on removable drives that I run into trouble. The drives I use are Transcend 640GB StoreJet 25ms connected via USB.
I don't think it's a UAC problem. At least, to my understanding, doesn't that control how your machine alerts you to program changes? I looked into how to change ownership, and did so, but that didn't work. Here's a link to what I mean: http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/windows-7-access-denied-permission-ownership/
I'm stumped. I also hate the idea that I'll have to go through various folders to find images from already created collections, copy them to a new folder on my HD and then work on them. Then I'll have to put them all back... ugghhhh
