Upgrading RoboHelp 7 to RoboHelp 9 RoboSource

Hi I'm Trying to upgrade Robohelp 7 to Robohelp 9 as we have just gone Windows7 we also use RoboSource.
What are the steps to successfully upgrade?.

Hi
Steps I took.
Opened Robohelp 7 made sure project could check in and out of Robosource, worked fine.
Checked all files out of robosource via Robohelp 7.
Upgraded to Robohelp 9 - was asked if I wanted lastest said yes.  Popup said some files could not be checked out.  Tried opening project in Robohelp 9 - popup corrupt .cpd tried deleting .cpd no joy.
Re tried all the steps again with the files checked in to robosource no joy.
Cannot open project in Robohelp 7 or RoboHelp 9 now!

How to upgrade Robohelp X5 files to Robohelp 7 without broken links ? And also i need proper procedure for migrating Robohelp X5 to Robohelp 7 that does not affect the system performance due to .cpd file.

Upgrading from 5 to 7 should be as simple as opening the project and I don't recall it giving any broken link problems. Is your project on your local drive rather than a network drive? Is source control involved?
What's the basis for thinking the CPD will cause performance issues?

  • How to upgrade RoboHelp HTML 9 version-controlled projects to RoboHelp HTML 10

    Existing Environment:
    PC 1: RoboSource Control Server
    Windows 7, 64-bit, SP1
    Adobe TCS 3.5
    RoboHelp HTML 9
    RoboSource Control 3.1 (Server install)
    Microsoft SQL Server 2005
    PC 2:  Client
    Windows 7 Enterprise, 64-bit, SP1
    Adobe TCS 3.5
    RoboHelp HTML 9
    RoboSource Control 3.1 (Client install)
    PC 3:  Client
    Windows 7 Enterprise, 64-bit, SP1
    Adobe TCS 3.5
    RoboHelp HTML 9
    RoboSource Control 3.1 (Client install)
    PC 4:  Client
    Windows 7 Enterprise, 64-bit, SP1
    Adobe TCS 3.5

    PC 5:  Client
    Windows 7 Enterprise, 64-bit, SP1
    Adobe TCS 3.5
    RoboHelp HTML 9
    RoboSource Control 3.1 (Client install)
We are upgrading from TCS 3.5 to TCS 4. In our existing TCS 3.5 environment, we have approximately 20 RoboHelp HTML 9 projects that are under version control. Our version control system is provided through RoboSource Control 3.1/Microsoft SQL Server 2005.
I have determined that RoboSource Control 3.1 is provided with TCS 4. Therefore, it doesn't appear that we need to worry about upgrading the version control databases or the RoboSource Control software (we had to upgrade both the version control software and the version control databases when we upgraded from RoboHelp x5 to TCS 3.5).
So, my primary question is this: After we run the TCS 4 install, what is the recommended process for opening our existing RoboHelp HTML 9 projects from the new RoboHelp HMTL 10? As I see it, there are three potential answers:
Delete all existing RoboHelp HTML 9 "working" folders for the projects, and use RoboHelp HTML 10 to recreate the "working" folders from the version control databases.
Simply open the existing RoboHelp HTML 9 "working" folders for the projects using RoboHelp HTML 10.
It doesn't matter; either of the two options above will work.

    Hi,
I'm not really familiar with RCS, but for other source control systems I recommend the following:
    1. Make sure that all your changes are checked in and that at least on pc has the latest version of all the files before updating TCS.
    2. Run the update.
    3. Now open the project on the pc that has the latest version of all files.
    4. After update, check in the entire project.
    5. Get the latest version on all pc's using the server. (Don't open the project in the client.)
         - Mostly, I just remove the entire project from the pc's and use a GET to get updated project from the server.
I hope the RCS supports a get all from the server, if not, please ignore the above list.

    Willam

  • How to upgrade Robohelp X5 to Robohelp 7 (or some later version)?

(Searched the forum but didn't find an answer. I apologize if it has been covered already.)
We've been using Robohelp X5 and are now considering an upgrade due to the incompatibility with current versions of MS Word. On Adobe's product page there seem only options to upgrade from Robohelp 7 or Robohelp 8 to Robohelp 9. Does that mean that there's currently no way to upgrade from Robohelp X5 to any later version? Thanks!

Your projects will upgrade but there is no reduced price unless upgrading from 7 or 8.

  • How to move existing project into upgraded Robohelp?

I have multiple existing help projects in Robohelp maintained in version 7, and we are upgrading to version 10. Will I be able to open these projects in the new version without taking additional steps, or are there concerns I should be aware of? Would a new project need to be created? If there is information somewhere about upgrade concerns, and someone could point me to it, I would really appreciate it.
    <moved by mod from downloading,installing,setting up - kglad>

There are a number of posts already that cover this.
First make a backup in case you encounter issues with the upgrade. I recommend you zip the backup to stop you accidentally opening it.
Then just open the project in Rh10. The only expected problem is with lists, numbered or bulleted. See Lists on my site for information on that.
If you do encounter other problems, post back with specific details. Should be OK.

  • TCS3 installed - how to only upgrade RoboHelp?

    Hi!
Basically the title says it all.
I have the Technical Communication Suite 3 installed on my system.
Fronm this bundle the only program which I now would like to upgrade is RoboHelp 9.
I got the upgrade files and a license key for RoboHelp 10, but if I try to upgrade I get the message that I am not allowed to upgrade because "no qualifying product was found on the computer".
Has anyone an idea what I could do?
    Thank you!
    Bests
    Lu

I don't think you can upgrade a single product, you have to upgrade the whole suite.
I believe that the message is effectively saying is "I cannot find a standalone Rh9 licence".
Check with Adobe but I think that is what they will say.
Then comes, where did you buy the licence? If from Adobe, hopefully they will allow you to increment to an upgrade to the suite. I don't know if buying a full Rh10 licence would work but probably the suite upgrade would be a better deal anyway. If from elsewhere, see what Adobe will do and then what your supplier will do.

  • Is it possible to upgrade Robohelp 7 files to Robohelp 11?

Our team is currently using a old version of Robohelp and are looking to update it.  We've looked at the pros and cons of Helpsmith, Doc-To-Help, Madcap Flare and, of course, Robohelp 11.  If our version 7 files could easily be converted then Robohelp 11 would immediately jump to the top our of interest list.
    Thanks,
    Greg

LOL. Nobody is going to give you that and if they do, don't believe them. We don't have any way of knowing everything that you may have done in your project. As Rick has indicated you just have to create a backup and see what happens and with one exception, as the man says it should be that simple. Create your backup as a zipped file so that you cannot accidentally open it but you can keep extracting the content if you need to.
The exception might be lists. They changed in Rh8 and what you may need there is described on my site.

  • Upgrade to RoboSource Control 3

We are in the process of upgrading RoboHelp and RoboSource
Control. We currently are using RSC2 but need to move to RSC3. Is
there an upgrade path to be able to use the existing access db that
we are using for RSC2? I have been searching but cannot find
documentation. A link to documentation or any help would be
    appreciated!
    Thanks

There is an upgrade path from RSC 2 to 3. You will really
like the stability of SQL Server 2005 (or Express) vs. the old
    Access db.
In addition to the documentation that comes with the separate
RSC Explorer app, be sure to check out Matthew Ellision's revised
article just posted on the Adobe Developer Connection. You'll find
    it here.

  • RoboHelp 7 with RoboSource 3.1 upgrading to RoboHelp 10

    Hello,
I am looking into upgrading RoboHelp 7 to RoboHelp 10 and it looks like the same RoboSource 3.1 is used. Can someone confirm this? I would also like to know if I make a copy of the RoboSource database can I connect RoboHelp 10 to the copy while useing RoboHelp 7 on the original?
    Thank you for your help.

Yes RoboHelp 3.1 with RoboHelp 10 is the same version as RoboHelp 7
A new database needs to be created on the server and then a new connection. Since RoboHelp 10 is different version I am assuming that the database for RoboHelp 7 can not be copied.

  • Multiple programs crash using a Save As dialog box, suspected cause is interaction of machine with Robohelp

    Hi all,
Apologies if this is in the wrong area, it could also be related to RoboSource Control.
I have a problem with my entire system. I am getting regularly kicked out of programs when I try to add an attachment or save something. It occurs when a standard Windows 'Save As' or 'Open file' dialog box is opened to browse to a file path, and this regularly leads to being kicked out of the whole program. This happens in Chrome, all the microsoft office programs, outlook, adobe acrobat reader - everything in fact where I use one of these standard Windows file browsing dialog boxes. The kicking out is pretty indiscriminate - it doesn't happen every time. Sometimes it will take me 5 or 6 attemps to save something or add an attachment, having to reload the program each time. Sometimes, but rarely, it will work first time.
The only program it doesn't happen in is Roboscreen Capture and Robohelp, which is odd in itself. Both the two other technical writers in my department have both exactly the same issue with their machines, and this never happens to anyone else in the office of about 40 people. The only thing me and the two other technical writers have in common with our machines is that we all have Robohelp and RoboSource Control and Roboscreen Capture.
We use version control through RoboSource Control with Robohelp, this could be the problem. We are also raising this issue with our IT department.
Can anyone on here give a helping hand to point me in the right direction?
    Many thanks,
    Matt.

I've been hanging around these forums for about ten years and that's a new one on me. It's only happening to people with Rh but it doesn't happen in Rh, just about everything else.
Are you maybe using a very old version of Rh on an operating system it wasn't designed for? I would doubt that as you would be seeing many more problems. What operating system are you using?

  • Running RoboHelp 10 and RoboHelp 11 on the same system

    Background
    Windows 7, 64-bit operating system.
Upgraded RoboHelp 10 to RoboHelp 11 this week. Upgraded my RH10 WebHelp Proj project (released with our 2.0 application) to start editing for release with 3.0 application next June .
The upgrade did not uninstall RoboHelp 10.
I work from within Visual Studio 2010 Professional. (I know that this is not a Source Control thread, but my issues are intertwined here.)
I create WebHelp Pro (even though we are not yet publishing to RH Server, although we're working on it!).
I check the output into Release folders in Souce Control, and the build picks up the files for installation with our application.
    Questions
If I need to update the 2.0 application Help, does anyone know whether I can still use RH10 to update that project? (I've posed the question to an Adobe consultant, but have not yet heard back.)
If I can't use RH10 to update the 2.0 application Help (and have to open the 2.0 project in RH11 and, therefore, upgrade it), are there new things in RH11 that could affect the WebHelp Pro output and, therefore, affect the use of the WebHelp Pro HTM files by the application? (Our release engineer believes that, for version control purposes, I must make changes to the 2.0  project in the same RH Client used to develop it.)
    Thanks for any help.
    Carol Levine
    AIR Worldwide

    Hi,Carol
First, (and to reiterate what Rick said) if you are not publishing to RoboHelp Server right now. Do NOT use WebHelp Pro. The Pro flavor is strictly for hosting on a RoboHelp Server installation.
The good news is that when and if you do decide to use RoboHelp Server, you simply take the Rh project (whether from Rh 10 or 11) and publish it with the WebHelp Pro SSL. It sounds like there is a some confusion between RoboHelp Server and Source Control. It is a common option to use RoboHelp Server and Source Control. But they are mutually exclusive. (While both may be used, they have nothing to do with one another.)
If you think about it, RoboHelp Server is output (by definition not "source")
So, you can continue using Rh 10 and 11 clients on the same computer, but as you note, you cannot open an Rh 10 project in Rh 11 because it is a one-way forward conversion (as Peter said).
As for publishing, be aware that when you move to RoboHelp Server, the publishing workflow is different. The web admin can't simply copy/paste WebHelp Pro output (from source control as you describe) to the Rh Server (or, as you said, "pick up files"). The project must be published from the RoboHelp 10/11 client directly to the Rh Server. This is because Rh Server is a database application and in order for the database to be "aware" of the new content, it must come from the RoboHelp client app (10 or 11). Also, in terms of Application Help and context sensitivity, there is a CSH API and a syntax that is used to call the Rh Server help topics from the application. This is covered in the online help. See the sub head "Access context-sensitive Help" in the Adobe RoboHelp Server 9 * RoboHelp Server Web Administrator tasks as well as Adobe RoboHelp 11 * Program Help for web pages
    Thanks

  • Can I use Word 2010 with RoboHelp 8?

Our company just upgraded to Word 2010 and, all of a sudden, when I try to generate printed documentation, RH gives me an error that I need Word 2000 or later. The OS is Windows XP Professional. Thanks!

    Hi Beth
Nope, sorry. Word 2010 isn't compatible with RoboHelp 8. Only RoboHelp 9 is compatible with Word 2010.
Choices are to upgrade RoboHelp or to downgrade Word.

  • Robohelp 7 open Robohelp 9 project?

as I search through internet, I understand that robohelp 7 unable to open robohelp 9 project
we have two robohelp 7 licenses and three robohelp 9 licenses
when working on project in robohelp 9, it need to upgrade the project, but robohelp 7 is unable to open the project after upgraded
Is it any way opening Robohelp 9 project(converted from version 7 project) in Robohelp 7?
Is it upgrade Robohelp 7 to 9 is the only way? We do not wish to upgrade is because i am wondering if later Adobe release robohelp 10, and by that time we need more robohelp license and we purchased additional license, we will need to upgrade all other old robohelp product?

    Hello again
Yep, conditional tagging is handled in the project before you compile or generate, so indeed they would be lost as would any information you excluded via the tab and build expression.
Not perfect, but at least you get a project you may continue editing in version 7.

  • Running a Global RoboHelp Project?

This post is a mixture of question and knowledge share, I recently asked RH guru Peter Grainge for his advice on how I should tackle a global RH project - his response is below.
I would be interested in hearing war stories from anyone who has had to deploy a RH project globally where barriers such as version control, languages, branding, etc have been overcome. I have built several small RH projects in various languages so like to feel I have a good grasp of the basics but would like to see if there are any good examples out there that can guide me.
I am in the stages of planning a global RH project and looks like I'll be using functionality such as variables, conditional builds and source control but I would be really interested to hear what is happening out there. Look forward to hearing from you.
    Nick.
    Hi
Why a private message? This is one where you want the experience of as many people as possible and where the answer will help others instead of being buried here.
First let's look at the differerent brand and terminology issues. Variables are the answer there. ProductName1 would have a default of say Automobile and be set to Car for another output. In RH8, variables can contain  images. Not sure about RH7 without checking.
Languages will certainly complicate things. You really need an agency whose skills include working with RoboHelp projects. This article will also help you. http://www.adobe.com/devnet/robohelp/articles/localized_projects.html
Multiple authors on one project mean you must work with source control. I don't do source control but this might help. http://www.adobe.com/devnet/robohelp/articles/robosource.html
I am not aware of  any studies that cover your requirements. Depending on where you are based, I might be able to recommend some consultants to you who could provide detailed assistance and set things up for you. They would charge for that.
Hope this gives you some idea of what is involved. Feel free to post your question and the preceeding parts of this reply if you would like to get wider input.

I think it might help with the replies to quote from the original question.
"I have now been asked to move things up a notch and put together a proposal which will help us launch online help for a software solution globally.
    The main points are that:
It will cover several versions of the same product with the core functionality remaining consistent.
It will need to include 'branded' screenshots and use different terminologies dependent on the market
It will be in several languages, (for instance Spanish and US English in the USA market as well as Far Eastern and European languages).
Have the ability to be edited by 3-4 users globally with the content still being able to be controlled centrally.
Do you know of anyone using RH in a more sophisticated way? or know where I can access case studies of such a scenario? I am looking around but cant seem to find anything that would help me put together a sketch of how we can build it here."
