Upgrading Software -- what to delete?
Hello!
I just purchased a brand new Mac Pro G5. I transferred the system drive from my old G4 to my new G5. Now my new G5 has old versions of FCP (3.0 & 4.5). I installed my upgraded version of FCP (5.1.2).
I got a weird error in FCP 5.1 when I was rendering my project.
Is it safe to delete old versions of FCP? Will deleting old versions effect my upgraded software? And, how do I uninstall safely without messing up the 5.1 software?
Any specific feedback/advice would be great!

Do you mean you physically installed the old system drive on the new Mac - or did you transfer the System Software?
If so, did you drag it, clone it, or what?

CS6 Production Premium upgrade - any problems to delete old versions?
Am looking to upgrade to CS6 from CS5. However the CS4 full install original is still on my PC because I read it could cause problems with CS5 to delete it.
Have also read on these forums that all upgrades are full installs and that older versions can be uninstalled so long as I have an older version serial key number to use.
Also that the Adobe registry cleaner should be used after an uninstall - but the Adobe site seems to be talking about using its "CS Cleaner Tool" after uninstalling pre-release versions - not purchased upgrades.
So Q. is can CS4 & CS5 be safely uninstalled prior to loading CS6? (All Production Premium.) And should the CS Cleaner Tool be used?
Does anyone have a definite answer on this please? Naturally want to avoid keeping old stuff on the system if possible.
Haven't found a general forum for CS6 Production Premium. Please redirect if not okay here. Mostly using PremierePro.I don't know what Adobe's 'official' stance is on this, and I'm not an offial PR spokesperson for adobe. I'm just trying to speak honestly about my own experice as a fellow user. If you're in a position to get rid of all your old stuff and start fresh anew then running an uninstall and a cleanscript is a good idea. I can't speak with authority on that because I typically don't use cleanscripts. I either restore to a clean OS image or just use the uninstaller. But I always carry at least one system with two or more consecutive versions installed on it. Having an extra version is no more obtrusive to me than the extra's GB's it occupies and I get a lot out of it because it lets me compare current behavior to previous version(s). Perhaps I've just been lucky, but I have been running multi-version software setups for well over 10 years now and as long as I'm using the actual released software I've had no conflicts. For the record, I do occassionally encounter uninstall-install component conflicts during a dev cycle, so I acknowledge they exist, but it's almost always due to an architectural change that was intentionally made to the installer during development.
We do extensive project upgrade and installer testing at each new release to ensure that you encounter no problems following wichever path you choose. We try not to assume that you will be running on an especially clean system, or an especially dirty one for that matter. But, there are only a relatively few of us testing these things in-house compared the thousands of users with unique scenarios that may generate problems we have not seen. I think Harm's (and others') point is that if you're in the middle of a big important project, why would you choose to upgrade software right in the middle of it and take that chance at all? I don't believe there is much risk there (assuming you're not jumping about half a dozen versions at one upgrade) but that still seems like common sense advice to me... -
Ipod touch 1st generation w/ upgraded software
I have an ipod touch 1st generation w/ upgraded software. I bought the game Angry birds to play, but when I click on the icon, it turns black as though the game is going to load, but it doesn't instead it goes back to original screen. Any suggestions???

button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

I can't connect to Wi-Fi - keeps timing out. No problem connecting from other laptops / phones. Stopped working after I did a system upgrade. What can I do? I am on OS X Yosemite.
Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried, until the problem is resolved. Some of these steps are only possible if you have control over the wireless router.
Step 1
Turn Wi-Fi off and back on.
Step 2
Restart the router and the computer. Many problems are solved that way.
Step 3
Change the name of the wireless network, if applicable, to eliminate any characters other than letters and digits. You do that on your router via its web page, if it's not an Apple device, or via AirPort Utility, if it is an Apple device.
Step 4
Run the Network Diagnostics assistant.
Step 5
In OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and fix the issues listed in the Summary, if any.
Step 6
Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Enter the name of your wireless network in the search box. You should have one or more "AirPort network password" items with that name. Make a note of the name and password, then delete all the items. Quit Keychain Access. Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. Reconnect to the network.

Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
Step 9
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC). -

Install the software and when prompted for the previous version qualifying product, select Acrobat 9 and enter the serial key of Acrobat 9.
This should install and activate Acrobat X Pro on the machine.

The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
1) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
2) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed

3) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:

4) If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
5) Launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC. If, during the process, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
Don't forget to backup.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

Any suggestionYou've got a problem with no easy solution. It appears your phone was hacked to unlock it so you could use it where you live. Updating software on a hacked iPhone will re-lock the phone to the carrier it was originally locked to...that's what happened to you.
Only the carrier the phone is locked to can authorize the phone's official unlocking...in your case, a carrier in Canada. However, none of the carriers in Canada will authorize the unlocking of your phone unless you are a current/former customer who used the phone on their network.
Thus, there doesn't appear to be any way for you to get this phone officially unlocked, unless you want to fly to Canada & first establish service. -

Or you can go to Tools > wizard > Start. It will configure your phone saying defining "operator settings" wait for it to finish

You have to update the software on your iPad via iTunes on your computer. Once you've upgraded to the most current version 5.1.1, you'll then have the ability to update your software directly on your iPad in the future. But you have to get the update on your computer in iTunes first.

I suppose all you can do is be content with the limitations of your old iBook G4 running Tiger. It would be possible to upgrade to 10.5 Leopard, but I would not recommend doing that because that secondhand software is quite expensive, so giving little improvement over what you have.
If you desire a more modern operating system, you will need a more modern 'Intel' computer. I expect you realise that and are simply seeking confirmation of that. -
Confirm Upgrading Software for VPN 3060E Concentrator
Maybe I have the steps wrong, but my upgrade didn't work. See below to confirm my instructions to upgrade VPN 3060E concentrator
UPGRADING SOFTWARE.FOR VPN CONCENTRATOR
1. Go to Administration/Software Update/Concentrator
2. You will see the current software revision, below that you will see the current image file.
3. Enter the complete pathname of the new image or click Browse to search for the file. File must be accessible by the workstation you are using to manage the VPN Concentrator.
4. Once you have the pathname of the new image entered, click the upload button.
5. You will see the Software Update Progress window appear.
6. Continue to wait until the update progress window completes and says that update was a success or you can stop the file transfer that is progress by clicking cancel.
7. After the update, the manager returns to the Administration screen where you may see a message that a file upload is in progress. Click the highlighted link to stop it and clear the message. The manager will also verify the new software.
8. A reboot of the concentrator is needed once the update is complete.
9. To reboot the concentrator go to Administration/System Reboot. In the action field select reboot. In the Configuration field, choose to reboot without saving the active configuration. In the When to Reboot/Shutdown section, choose Now.
10. The Software Update Error Screen will appear if there was a problem with the upgrade.Hi,

So, what is the error that you got while upgrading. Also, when you download the image from cisco.com, make sure that the file size matches.
