Upgrading sql 2005 from sp to sp 3

hi all
i have a question. i need to upgrade my sql 2005 from sp 2 to sp 3 on my live environment because windows7 needs sp3. would there be any issues if i upgrade to sp3?
i just download sp3 into my server and run it?
thanks!
prem

Hi Prem,
Windows7 is not officially supported yet.  If you have issue, it must be related to windows7.  SP3 should not be an issue.
Thanks,

  • Upgrading to SQL 2005 from 2000?

I have a very large database in 2000 and I'm thinking of
    requesting that
it be moved to 2005. I've heard that 2005 is faster and I've
    seen the
interface for it and it looks like it combines Query analyzer
    with the
standard interface tools. Enterprise Manager is just so
    limited and clunky.
Do you think I'd run into problems with my site if I had them
    update to
a new SQL database? Any pitfalls? Warnings? What should I
    look out for?
Is it worth it for the new security and interface features?
    Thanks

I would say wait a short while longer and upgrade to SQL
    Server 2008. It
seems pointless going through the upgrade now when the next
    version is
    already on our doorstep.
A word of warning. There is no downgrade option once you have
    upgraded so
run the built in Upgrade Advisor before you do anything (if
    you have that
option) and also check that all your T-SQL code is ANSI
    compliant as
non-ANSI compliant code will not work in SQL 2005 or 2008.
    See:
    http://www.sql-server-performance.com/faq/query_uses_nonansi_outerjoin_p1.aspx
    for more info.
Also, remember that you will not have the option of
    scheduling any DTS
packages from 2000 as these will need to be re-built as SSIS
    packages if you
want them to run them as Jobs, although you can still execute
    them manually
(if that is a feasible option) with the assistance of the DTS
    add-on that is
    a free download from Microsoft.
Just be very careful that all is in place before you upgrade
    and make sure
you take a full database backup before you upgrade (including
    system DB's)
in case you need to re-install 2000 and rebuild the
    databases.

  • Restoration at sql 2005 from sql 2000 backup.

    Hi experts,
Is it possible to restore a backup taken from sql 2000 database to sql 2005 database?
And how about attaching datafiles of sql2000 into sql 2005 server?
    Thanks and Regards,

  • Has anyone upgraded sql 2005 to sql 2008 and win 2008 Netweaver 7.0, ECC 6?

We are currently running the following landscapes
    Netweaver BI 7..0 on windows 2003 , sql 2005,
    ECC 6.0 on windows 2003, sql 2005
    SAP Portal 7 on windoes 2003 , sql 2005
And would like to plan the migration to windows 2008, sql 2008 IE 7.0
I just wanted to get some feedback regarding if someone has already done this and how you all went about to upgrade? Issues you encountered, things to avoid, all that good stuff
Without doing much research yet, and having just completed the migration from 32bit OS to 64bit and sql 2000 to sql 2005, I had to perform a NEW install of SAP on parallel servers , export from 32bit and import to 64bit servers
When we upgrade to windows 2008 and sql 2008, will we ALSO require to do a NEW install of SAP? just like what I just finished?
    Please advise?
Regards & Thank You in Advance
    Maria

    Hello Maria,
    Refer to http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2008/en/us/upgrade.aspx
Also you can refer to SAP guide for database upgrade to SQL server 2008 ,just go to the followng link
http://service.sap.com/instguides --> Other Documentation --> Database Upgrades --> MS SQL Server
    Hope it helps

  • Connecting to SQL 2005 from Oracle error

I have an Oracle Database and SQL Database on the same server and wants to use odbc to connect to the SQL 2005 database and query tables of my choice.
I did configured the ODBC correctly and called the DSN TSH_ARCHIVE. I have tested it and it works great. But each time I run the following query I get error:
    SQL> select count(*) from BALANCES_HS@tse_archive;
    select count(*) from BALANCES_HS@tse_archive
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
Any suggestion and help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the files.
There are some problems with the configuration.
    listener.ora -
    LISTENERTSE_ARCHIVE =
    (ADDRESS_LIST=
    (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST = xxxxx.ita.doc.gov)(PORT=1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1521))
    SID_LIST_LISTENER=
    (SID_LIST=
    (SID_DESC=
    (SID_NAME=TSE_ARCHIVE)
    (ORACLE_HOME=J:\app\product\11.1.0\db_2)
    (PROGRAM=hsodbc)
    (SID_DESC=
    (SID_NAME=tpisdb06)
    (ORACLE_HOME=J:\app\product\11.1.0\db_2)
    This should be -
    LISTENERTSE_ARCHIVE =
    (ADDRESS_LIST=
    (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST = xxxxx.ita.doc.gov)(PORT=1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1521))
    SID_LIST_LISTENERTSE_ARCHIVE =
    (SID_LIST=
    (SID_DESC=

    (PROGRAM=dg4odbc)
    (SID_DESC=
    (SID_NAME=tpisdb06)
    (ORACLE_HOME=J:\app\product\11.1.0\db_2)
The SID_LIST_LISTENER needs to match the actual listener name and the program for 11g DG4ODBC is called dg4odbc and not hsodbc.
    tnsnames.ora -
    TSE_ARCHIVE =
    (DESCRIPTION=

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = TSE_ARCHIVE)(PORT=1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = TSE_ARCHIVE)
    (HS=OK)
The HOST name - TSE_ARCHIVE does not match the HOST in the listener, so it should be -
    TSE_ARCHIVE =
    (DESCRIPTION=
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = xxxxx.ita.doc.gov)(PORT=1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = TSE_ARCHIVE)
    (HS=OK)
I've changed the actual name to xxxxx so replace that with the name in the original file.
Change the files, stop and start the listener then try again.
If you still have an ora-12154 error then send the output from the following SQL -
select db_link, host from user_db_links; <=== as the user getting the error
    and
select db_link, host from dba_db_links; <===== as a DBA user

  • Migrate SQL 2005 from windows 2005 server to Windows 2008 R2 server

    Hi all,
I need to move our SQL 2005 on a windows 2003 server to a new server with Windows 2008 R2 installed.  Could someone show me what are the necessary steps I need to do?
    Thank you.

    Hey TR,
As per Microsoft recommendation, Before Installing new server try to run Upgrade Advisor and follow these steps
    1. Take Full backups of all System and Application databases on your 2005 machine.
    2. Script all logins  --
    3. Script all jobs
    4. List out all Maintenance plans and their schedules -- You cant migrate so you have to create them manually
    5. List out all Linked server(s) currently being used.
    6. Check the service pack
    7. Check the Edition
    8. document the existing server settings so that it should match the same (collation,version,...)
    Migration process
    1. Migrate logins
    2. Restore all App databases
    3. Fix the orphan users
    4. create the jobs
    5. create maintenance plans
    6. create Linked Servers
    7. perform checkdb on all databases
    8. rebuild indexes
    9. update the statistics
10.move all the DTS / SSIS packages
    11. Point the application to new server
    12. Testing ....  Change all the application connection string to new server and then start the testing then finally if everything looks good then you can down the sql 2000 server and start using new server.

The artcile you provided me, lead me to another one: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms378422.aspx
    I download JRE 1.5.
Based on these, I have JDBC 2.0 (sqljdbc and sqljdbc4.0) files.
I copy only sqljdbc to my classpath = C:\OraHome_1\oracledi\drivers\sqljdbc.jar
    my ODI_JAVA_HOME = C:\OraHome_1\jre\jre1.5.0_11
    Same error in topology manager.

  • Upgrading SQL Server from 2008 to 2012 doesn't respect existing install / instance paths

Basic Information : Running Microsoft Windows Server 2008 with MS SQL Server 2008 (version 10.0.5869), trying to upgrade to SQL Server 2012. Currently working in a cloned
VM of our production server (so I can try things and not worry about affecting our production system).
    Current server setup:
C Drive: Operating System (About 7 GB of 50 GB free)
J Drive: Program Files (About 65 GB of 78 GB free)
F Drive: SQL Databases (About 120 GB of 195 GB free)
Issue: I am trying to do an upgrade of our existing MS SQL Server 2008 install. I am using the GUI method, and choosing "Upgrade from SQL Server, 2005, SQL Server
2008, or SQL Server 2008 R2" in the Setup GUI:
All the checks & rules run with no issues. When I get to the "Instance Configuration" screen in the setup GUI, it is not respecting where my SQL Server instance is already installed (which is on the J drive). Instead it wants to install EVERYTHING
(including Instance Directory, which should be on the F drive, and the install folder, which should be on the J drive) on the C drive under C:\Program Files\ and there is no option in the GUI to change that, as it's grayed out.
I tried using a Configuration File to do the upgrade, but when I tried to specify the specific paths, it says those variables are not allowed to be used in an upgrade. If I allow the install to go through, it seems to install fine, but only leaves me with about
1.5 GB free on the OS drive (Drive C) and all of SQL Server is now installed on Drive C, which is not what I want or need.
Looking in the Registry Editor, I can see that under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft
SQL Server\MSQL11.MSSQLSERVER\ that the SqlProgramDir key
has changed from "F:\" to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\" and that the SQLPath and SQLDataRoot have
changed from "F:\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL" to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL". SQLBinRoot has
    also been changed "F:\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Binn" to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Binn".
It doesn't seem to want to follow where the existing Install and Instance Directories are. Am I missing something here? I've done a decent amount of research, but can't find anything that talks about this. So I'm at a loss as to what to do from here.

I haven't touched the registry. Here is the ConfigurationFile.ini from the original install (I've scrubbed sensitive info out of it) showing the paths:
    ;SQLSERVER2008 Configuration File

  • Migrating an old website to MS SQL 2005 from MS Access

There is one query I have that's giving me the "Maximum length is 128" error. My research mostly referred to single or double quotes or a stored proceedure in the db but that's not the case. I'm hoping that someone with see the obvious problem with the query while I look for a better SQL referenece for the 2005 server as I'm used to working with MySql.
    <cfquery datasource="#dsn#" username="#dsnusername#" password="#dsnpassword#" name="GetProperties">
                    SELECT     P.Property_ID, P.Display_Order, P.Property_Title_File, P.Manager_ID, P.Property_Name,
                                    P.Address, P.City, P.State, P.ZIP_Code, P.Medium_Pic_File, P.Medium_Pic_Height,

                    ORDER BY P.Display_Order, NRV.NotRented Desc, P.Property_Name, P.ZIP_Code
                </cfquery>
The error starts with the left join select....

use normal parentheses for your subquery and don't put a period after the closing one.

  • How to upgrade SQL Developer from 1.1. to 1.5?

    Hello,
I downloaded 1.5 and tried starting it in order to upgrade from 1.1 which came with the Oracle 11g package.
It shows the splash screen briefly then it disappears.
    How can I install/upgrade it?
    Thanks,
    Gabor

    Hello Jim,
    Thanks for the response.
I did what you suggested. Yes, it does open the console window and tons of messages scroll through it while the splash screen is shown. The both the console window and the splash screen disappear and that's it.
    The OS is XP SP2.
The exact version of SQL Developer is 1.5.1.54.40.

  • Upgrade Process from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012

    Hi All,
I have gone thru multiple threads and would like to understand some steps in detail for me to upgrade SQL 2005 to SQL 2012.
Below is my understanding and questions around it, I would be setting up a new environment with OS 2007/2008 with SQL 2012:
Environment Readiness - Ensure new environment is ready with Win 2007/2008 with SQL 2012 Server
Run Upgrade Advisor on the new environment and point to SQL 2005 instance
Find the breaking/discontinued changes to be done before or After Upgrade
<Question>: Over here I would like to know what should be our approach to make the required changes
<Question>: Obviously I should not be making changes directly on the Production SQL 2005 server, then in that case should I take a backup/restore on the new SQL Server 2012 and then make the required changes to the database objects
like (Table schema(changing column names/datatypes etc.), Stored Procedure, Functions & Views)
<Question>: When I do a backup/restore I would also get the data along with it, so is this a recommended approach or should we only run/use the table schema creation scripts, fix the issues identified by UA and then do an Table to Table import,
    any thoughts on this ?
<Question>: If I have to do a table to table Import then I should ensure there's a downtime during the Import or would I have any other better approach
So, basically my questions are around the approach of fixing the issues identified by UA and moving the database to SQL Server 2012 environment, I have around 300 databased to me upgraded.
Please do let me know what should be a good/proven approach ? Pl. do let me know if you would need any more details from me.
    ---Umesh

    Thanks all for the replies.
I am trying summarize what I have understood here:
Document SQL Server 2005 environment details, Is there any tool which could give us all relevant details
I would take the backup from the SQL Server 2005 Production environment and then restore the same in a test environment which again has SQL Server 2005 and Run Upgrade Advisor on that
Probbaly run SQL Profiler as well to find out the deprecated changes to be done
I should fix all the breaking, discontinued changes on the Test system identified by UA
I should fix all the deprecated changes on the Test system identified by SQL Profiler
Steps 3 & 4 should give me the changed scripts for all database objects (i.e. Table Schema, Stored Procedures, Functions & Views)
<Question> Perform test, I understand this acitivity test can be captured by having SQL profiler running in the background on the SQL Server 2005 production environment where we can identify some days in a week or a month where maximum activity is
expected to ensure we cover most the scenarios, let me know is this approach looks fine or is there a better approach
Now, with regards to acutal upgrade I need to identify a time window where in less activity is done during which I could have a downtime for the actual SQL Server 2005 production environment
Post downtine, I should do a BackUp for all databases from SQL Server 2005 production environment
Test on environment readiness of SQL Server 2012 can be compared against the documentation done as part of the first Step
<Question> Ideally I should a restore first in the new environment which has SQL Server 2012
<Question> Then run the Scripted changes where we fixed all the breaking, discontinued & deprecated changes
<Question> Does above sequence of Step 9 & 10 make sense or is there a better approach of doing it
<Question> Post Upgrade and running of changed scripts, I should run the Upgrade Advisor again and see if everything looks fine
<Question> Perform test again which we ran on SQL Server 2005 Test environment
<Question> These steps should complete the Upgrade process.
Please do let me know if the above sequence look ok to all of you and does it really work in a practical scenario, do let me know your feedback or any change in sequence/process or any other tools that can be used here.
    Thanks Again ...

  • SSRS 2012 rendering issue/Enabling Anonymous access - Upgraded SSRS from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012.

    Hi,
I just recently upgraded SQL 2005 SSRS to SQL 2012 SSRS. Everything is working great other than small issue.
Sounds like some authentication issue. SQL 2005 SSRS - IIS, we enabled anonymous access and we never had this problem. SQL 2012 SSRS /WIN 2008 R2 -  I am not sure how to enable anonymous access.
If anyone can help me on this? I really appreciate your help.
    Thanks,
    Vel
    Vel Thavasi

    Hi Vel,
According your description, you want to know how the enable anonymous access to SSRS 2012. Right?
In SSRS 2008 or later version, we are not using IIS any more. If we want to configure the authentication, we need to configure in RSReportServer.config. This file locate at:
    <drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS12.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer
However, in SSRS 2012, Anonymous authentication is not supported on report server. Please see:
    Authentication with the Report Server
In this scenario, we need to custom an authentication type to achieve the "Anonymous" goal. Please refer to the link:
Configure Custom or Forms Authentication on the Report Server
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • MS SQL 2005 Warning when upgrading 2005A SP01 PL10 to PL34

When attempting the above upgrade I get the following warning during the Upgrade of the Common db.
"Changing any part of an object name could break scripts and stored procedures".
We have version 9.00.1399.06 of SQL 2005. I think this is SP00.
SAP Support advised me to uninstall and re-install SBO bt I got the same error again.
I am considering upgrading SQL 2005 to SP01 or SP02 to try to resolve this issue.
    Is SP02 supported for SBO?

    Hello,
Based on latest sizing guide file, recommended database servers are :
    1. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard or Enterprise Edition
(As of SAP Business One 2005 SP 01 Release and only on Windows 2003 Server operating system.)
    2. Microsoft SQL Server 2000 SP4 Standard or Enterprise Edition
    3. IBM DB2 Universal Database 8.2.2 FP5 Express Edition
    4.  Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise 12.5.3 GA
if you need the file, you could download it from this link :

Thanks guys for trying to help
Previously, I used to see this error
    com.sunopsis.sql.c: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
and so I downloaded the driver and installed it on /orahome_1/oracledi/drivers directory.
Once I installed the driver, I am getting
7000 : null : com.sunopsis.sql.l: Oracle Data Integrator Timeout: connection with URL
So, I am thinking the agent is recognizing the driver but still not able to connect.
CTS, If you are saying whether I tested the connection using the agent. Yes, I did and it is resulting in the same error.
Can you please elaborate if you suggest trying something else.

  • Changing the default port 1433 in SQL 2005 on an ECC 6.0 system

    Hello everybody,
There is a requirement to change the default port of MS SQL 2005 from 1433 to a different port.
I am using SAP ECC 6.0 running on an ABAP stack. I would like to know what changes need to be done from the SAP end to achieve it.  Any pointers in this regard would be helpful.

    <b>Sizing</b>
Hardware sizing should be completed by your SAP partner. Its based on many things. Users, modules, storage volumes, peek, BP, workloads etc etc.
You can do the 'noddy' version with the sapsize on OSS. The output from this is in 'SAPs' you could look up std systems bench marks and get something 'like' it. Else submit the results to the hardware vendor of your choice and they will do it for you.
    <b>System Redundancy</b>
Depends what you are trying to do.
MSCS is a fail over HARDWARE only solution. ie if you want to patch or take a node out of service you can by 'failing over' the services on it to the other node. If you get a DB problem MSCS can not help you at all.
Log shipping gives you 'rapid' recovery options for SQL(and there in SAP). The way this normally works is via either manual or automatic log-shipping to a 'standby' system with SQL/SAP loaded on it that can be brought online if you get a problem with the main system.
A well planned system will have fail-over and recovery capabilities, ie it will use BOTH.
