Upgrading the CPU in my HP Pavilion dv6-6b08sa Notebook PC

Hey there,
I am looking to upgrade my seemingly weak CPU so that my laptops performance may be noticeably improved, for things such as gaming. I have an HP Pavilion dv6-6b08sa Notebook PC, running a Windows 7 64-bit Operating System.
This is my current CPU:
Quad-Core AMD A6-3410MX APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics, 1600 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
If you require any more information about my laptop in order to help me, please ask and I will be happy to provide.
Please note that I do not want to have to upgrade any other components of my laptop, such as the motherboard, in case the CPU requires stronger/more powerful support, as money is a limitation. The cheaper the better, as long as the performance will be improved noticeably. Thank you.

Hello TooQuix,
I understand you want to upgrade your CPU is the correct? I will try and provide you the information that you need.
This document will provide you a list of processors available for this unit. Now because you have AMD installed originally, and you're using the same motherboard you will have to continue to use AMD.
If you turn to page 85 there is a list of processors, the part numbers are there as well to help your search. Also, if you plan on doing the work on your own the instructions on how to replace the processor is shown there as well.
I hope this helps.
If I have been helpful or if you'd like to say thank you for me trying to help, click the white star under my name to give me Kudos. I really appreciate it.
Please respond at your earliest convenience.
Thanks

No, its few year old now:

You can't simply replace the keyboard, you need new mother/sysem board which has places for you to plug thos lights. This can be costly or impossible.

  • Is it possible to upgrade the processor for my HP Pavilion g6-2244sa?

Hi everyone, i'm just curious as to whether or not I can upgrade the processor in my HP Pavilion g6-2244sa. It currently has the AMD E2-1800 APU (@1.70ghz, dual core) installed. It also has 8gb DDR3 RAM.
The laptop is awesome, it has a decent graphics card and can even play Skyrim on good settings. The only problem is that the processor isn't really up to scratch and games suffer from minor lag. I was curious as to whether or not it is possible to install a different processor such as the AMD E4 (@2.5ghz, dual core). I've seen other versions of the very same laptop with that processor installed.
    Thanks!

I am considering a base 21" iMac ($1099 @ Best Buy) for home use.  It would be my first Mac.  Is the base model powerful enough for everyday home use and some light video editing or should I upgrade the CPU, Ram and to a Fusion drive?
Purchasing with the upgrades through Apple would add about $800 over the Black Friday deal at Best Buy.  Just looking for some advice if I will be satisfied with the based model.

All models will do what you want. Upgraded models will do it faster than the standard models.
Just why are you thinking of switching to a Mac?

  • How to upgrade the CPU of Cisco ASA 5520?

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I'm not really into security, I'm more on router & switches. Here is the result of the show command I enter on the ASA. May I ask again for your help.

  • Is it possible to upgrade the CPU on an MSI GX-730 laptop?

Hi.  I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to upgrade the CPU on an MSI GX-730 Laptop with an X2 Turion CPU currently in it?  And if it's possible, what other CPUs are compatable?  I was hoping to put in a Phenom mobile processor, but I am not sure if one would work in it.  Thanks.

The short answer is no, you cannot upgrade it.
The long answer is you might be able to upgrade it to a slightly better Turion, but I'm not really sure it will provide any benefit.

I own a HP Pavilion dv6 7039tx Notebook.  The OS is Win 7 64bit. I made 4 partitions after formatting the 1TB HDD as the C drive would not reduce to the  40GB size I wanted through disk management.

I talked to customer support and they said it was a OS problem and I should order a set of 6 Recovery DVDs. i want to know if using the HP recovery disk
    1) Has an option to repair the system and leaves the disk partition unchanged?
    2) It resets the notebook to factory condition?
    3) There is an option of recovery disk which I should specifically ask for?

  • Is it possible to replace (not upgrade, just replace) the CPU in my hp pavilion d6-2164ca?

And if it is possible, is it even worth doing? My computer has decided to give me the common problem of not starting up. At first the blinks (no sound) indicated a BIOS issue, but when I attempted to flash the BIOS it didn't work and the LED code changed to a CPU issue instead. I've been told that it isn't likely to be a motherboard issue, but if I did replace the whole motherboard would that replace the CPU as well?
PLEASE HELP!  I really need my computer back!
    Thank you!

Yes the CPU is socketed and replaceable. However, I have only seen one or two bad processors and dozens if not hundreds of bad motherboards. Usually if you buy a motherboard it does not come with the processor and you swap your old one over. Sometimes on eBay somebody will be selling a combination motherboard and processor. The problem is the Turion M660 is very hard to find for sale. I could not find one online at all to even tell you what the price may be. The M600 is pretty cheap at $33:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMD-Mobile-Turion-II-Ultra-Dual-Core-M600-2-4GHz-2M-s1-TMM600DBO23GQ-/150895...
The M600 should work and you would give up a couple ticks of processor speed only.

  • Is it possible to upgrade the CPU or GPU of a Toshiba Notebook?

Many customers would like to upgrade/replace the CPU (Central Processing Unit) and/or GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) in their mobile systems to gain performance.
Toshiba does not support or recommend performing modifications on their mobile systems since the core components in these mobile systems are not upgradeable like in a desktop system.
    More Info: http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm

    Hi there,
I think what John meant to say is: it is not possible because it´s too expensive and you won´t gain some really big speed. I don´t know where you read something, but I think if you were a toshiba technician and would be familiar with electronics and the machines or especially with your machine than you won´t have a problem to exchange it.
I already tried to perform such exchange on my Satellite P20 some months ago. I can truly tell you: it didn´t bring me really some speed or performance. You will gain more performance by upgrading your RAM or your harddisk, but not with exchanging your CPU.
And it doesn´t matter which machine do you have regardless if you own a Satellite, Satellite Pro or a Tecra. The result is the same because the models have all the same componentes (but not similar hardware :) )
