Upgrading the processor in Qosmio X300

Hello, I bought a Qosmio X300-01U from bestbuy in Canada about a year ago and i would like to know a few things about upgrading it.
1. Can i upgrade the processor from my old P7350 to a Quad core processor or a core 2 extreme processor that supports my motherboard(PM45)?
2. If i can upgrade it, do i need to install an additional fan (since there is an empty slot for another fan.)
3. Is there any additional hardware i need?
4. Would the performance boost be significant?
5. Finally, would this upgrade cause any problems?

Hi
I think nobody here can answer your question because here you can talk with normal people like you and me For such technical questions you should contact an authorized service provider.
But I dont understand why you want to upgrade the CPU I doubt that this will bring a strong performance boost.
In my opinion every Qosmio X300 is fast enough for all applications and I dont see a reason for making such a risky upgrade.

I think you should firstly check this:

    > 1. Can i upgrade the processor from my old P7350 to a Quad core processor or a core 2 extreme processor that supports my motherboard (PM45)?
As mentioned in the Toshiba document, the CPU can be removed and another CPU could be installed but the question is; would the BIOS support the new CPU?
The point is that other modules are not tested and nobody can say how the BIOS would handle new CPU
The other point is the heat dissipation created by stronger CPU.
The cooling modules are not designed for stronger CPUs and in worst case the notebook would overheat
Therefore its not recommended to upgrade the CPU

You could upgrade but since your in the same family processor your not gong to get any gains with the upgrade. Stick with your current processor.

  • Is it possible to upgrade the processor for my HP Pavilion g6-2244sa?

Hi everyone, i'm just curious as to whether or not I can upgrade the processor in my HP Pavilion g6-2244sa. It currently has the AMD E2-1800 APU (@1.70ghz, dual core) installed. It also has 8gb DDR3 RAM.
The laptop is awesome, it has a decent graphics card and can even play Skyrim on good settings. The only problem is that the processor isn't really up to scratch and games suffer from minor lag. I was curious as to whether or not it is possible to install a different processor such as the AMD E4 (@2.5ghz, dual core). I've seen other versions of the very same laptop with that processor installed.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
The following manual shows a list of processors supported:

  • Can you upgrade the processor in a Presario CQ62-210us

I just bought a compaq presario cq62-210us, and I didn't realize that it had a single core celeron 900 processor, so what I was wondering is if it is possible to upgrade to a dual core processor.
I know that it is hard to upgrade the processor on laptops, but is there a specific chip that would fit in this model? If not, then is there a simuilar model that has the same internal  configuration, that I could just switch the processor with the model I currently have?
    Thank you.

I have a late 2009 Macbook Unibody and was curious about upgrading the processor. I just installed 8gigs of ram and was thinking about just trying to make it really fast. I am always in Adobe CS5.5 for my job and want my computer to be as fast as I can make it. Is it possible to install a new processor and is it worth it??
    Thanks

No, the processor and the video card are integrated into the logic board.

I have a CQ60-214dx laptop. I would like to upgrade the processor in it to something else. I have read on the Internet that it is possible to swap out the processor as long as you find the right socket, wattage, etc. processor. Is there a list out there of what is compatible with the laptop I have? I was hoping to find a processor that would take it from a dual core machine to a core2duo machine. Thanks for any info you can give me!

    Hi:
According to the specs page for your notebook it comes with a Pentium T3400 processor.
According to the service manual, link below, in Chapter 1, on page 1-1, it lists all supported processors that can be installed in your machine.
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02985882.pdf
That means you can go from your little ol' T3400 processor, all the way up to the mighty T9600 if you want to.
You are 100% correct about needing to know the particulars about the processor's FSB speed, L2 cache, lithography, etc.
Apparently notebook PC's have a much wider range of processors one can install. In a desktop for example, rarely do you get such latitude.
In any event, the only thing you need to check for you PC, is the BIOS release notes to see if any are required to support a faster or newer processor.
I've taken the liberty of doing that for you and note that no BIOS updates are necessary to install any of the supported Intel processors listed for you notebook.
There is one other tool I like to use and that is the Intel Processor Comparison tool.
Here is a sample of comparisons for you to review for proessors that would work in your notebook.
     http://ark.intel.com/compare/35581,35568,35563,35583
I am surprised that your notebook can handle processors from 2 different code names.
I also don't like that the sockets supported are not named exactly the same. I googled the difference and it doesn't appear to matter.
However, it should have either the GM or PM 45 chipset which supports any of those Pentium processors listed in the manual.
    http://ark.intel.com/products/chipsets/35509#compatibility
I believe the GL40 chipset is for celeron processors only.
So, that is basically it in a nutshell. You should be able to upgrade to any of the Pentium processors listed.

  • My hp dv6700 shuts down after 1 second. i recently upgraded the processor to intel t7500.

I recently tried to upgrade the processor of my HP dv6700. I upgraded to an Intel T7500 and after reassembling the laptop and trying to power it up, the laptop shuts down after 1 second. The computer turns on, the fan makes a brief noise, and then the machine shuts down. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hey, did you apply thermal paste to the new CPU? It may be shutting down because none of the heat it getting blown out by the fan. The thermal paste is a conductor of heat to allow it to be transferred to the copper which will get blown out of the laptop by the fan.
I also have a DV6700. May I ask how a motherboard melts down? I have had absolutely no problems with my laptop, and I've had it for 5-6 years.

  • Apple just upgraded the processor for new iPad

I've just noticed that apple has upgraded the processor for the new ipad( not ipad mini)!
Now I feel like an idiot buying the new ipad when it came out...

I just noticed this morning the Ipad with Retina Display. I just bought the "NEW IPAD" only 6 weeks ago.
Now I feel ripped off and cheated, paying the same high price for something that isn't worth the price I paid for it.
Where do I send my "new" (old) iPad for a replacement?
If Apple don't honor people with the "New" iPad for a replacement with the iPad with Retina Display, then they lost me and my family for a future customers.
Nobody really cares if Apple loses you as a customer.  For every one they "lose", they get 100 new ones.  You will not be missed.

  • Is there any way to upgrade the processor speed and/or graphics card?

i would like to upgrade the processor and/or graphics card to make gameplay faster, having problems with speed when having game open and web browser at the same time on two screens.

is there a way to upgrade the ram on the mac mini (with disk drive) so 2009 ish, that would greatly help me?  Aside from the obvious "buy a new one".

  • What are the benefits of upgrading the processor in a Macbook Air?

I am buying a Macbook Air 13" with 8gb of RAM and was what the benefits are of upgrading the processor from 1.8GHz Intel Dual-Core Core i5, to 2.0GHz Intel Dual-Core Core i7. I will mainly be using the computer for basic school work and some music recording with Ableton.

Benchmarking shows that the i7 upgrade is, on average about 15% faster than the i5. For some things faster, and some slower. That's not enough to notice in day to day use, after all, today's computers are so fast they spend most of their time waiting for their protoplasmic overlords to catch up. But for some uses, that extra boost would add up - say if you spend hours each day loading large digital photo files into Photoshop. It also adds a bit extra future proofing. If you have the cash it probably isn't a bad investment. If you have to set priorities, I think the extra RAM is more important than the CPU upgrade.

  • Possibility of upgrading the Processor on P500-ST5801?

Your best source of information like that is the NoteBook Review Forums.  They do a lot of that over there and have some very knowledgeable people that can provide you with the best information possible about it.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/forumdisplay.php?f=27
Do your homework first though.  Download and run CPU-Z so you will be able to tell them specifically what CPU is in that system as well as what motherboard chipset it has.  That will tell them a million times more information than telling them what model of laptop it is.
     http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
From their Intel Upgrade Guide it looks like you should have several poosibilities.  The tricky part is which ones the bios will support and Toshiba isn't very forthcoming about that.  Make sure that you have the latest bios when you attempt any of these.
Go to the Product Support Link at the top of this page, enter in your model, then clik on the Download Tab to find the available bios files for that model.  DO NOT update the bios from within Windows.  Don't do it, don't even think about doing it if you want to use your computer again.  When you double click on the download you will be presented with the choice of creating a CD to flash the bios from.  USE THIS METHOD.  You can use a CD-RW so you don't waste a blank, but even the cost of a regular blank CD is cheap compared to the $100 that most places will charge you to fix a botched bios flash.  Make sure that your battery is fully charged, installed, and the AC Adapter is plugged in just in case.

I am looking to upgrade the ram and am thinking about buying another 2 gb ram card from toshiba or pcworld.
