Upgrading Thumbnails- Which "IMG_0001.jpg" is missing??
iPhoto is "Upgrading Thumbnails" and finding dozens of missing photos. But the names of the photos are not distinctive, they're camera names, and I have a huge library which at times has as many as 6 or 7 of the exact same name. So I have no way of finding the missing photos.
Is there a better way to do that, so I could make those photos whole again?? How can I tell which photos are missing?

That's a question you'll need to ask the developers.
Now you've discovered the major pitfalls of running iPhoto in the mode you do. Manually is the only way to do what you want, I'm afraid.

The exclamation make is an indication that iPhoto has broken the file path to the original photo.
Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.

Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

The mail app on my Mac laptop will not open. This began happening after an upgrade during which "Security UPdate 2012-004" was installed. My mail app has a new icon, and I think i trashed the old program (trying to follow directions). Suggest a fix?

I've an old file without it's links folder, I was wondering If there was any way to extract low quality images from it to relink them.@Bernardo – you could export the graphic frame that holds the low res preview to e.g. PNG.
But I would *NOT* re-link them! Place them anew in case someone has geometrically transformed (cropped, rotated, skewed, mirrored) the original ones. Keep in mind that by exporting graphic frames to PNG, fill and stroke properties together with applied effects are exported as well.

IPhoto 6.0.3 asked to upgrade thumbnails-then it left me with no photos
After the update it asked to upgrade thumbnails or cancel, I choose upgrade and found that it emptied the db of photos and albums(they weren't even in the trash). I made a copy of the library on DVD and then tried the rebuild iPhoto db startup with all check boxes ticked, ....nothing! Can anyone give me a hand?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. After the rebuild did you have any blank thumbnail windows in your library or did the library say zero photos in it? More often than not, the photos are still there in the Originals folder but the library has lost the link or permissions to access them.
Try the following; download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. Now launch iPhoto.
If that doesn't help, try rebuilding the library with iPhoto Library Manager. It doesn't modify your current library but copies the image files and reads the data files from the old library and creates a new one. It often succeeds where the regular rebuild does not. Here's how:

Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: It can take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. One user reported that with a library of about 5,000 images it took about 12 hours so plan ahead. -

I have just encountered a similar issue and I think it might have been the same as one you are getting. Turns out, I accidentally switched from my local store to US Store (App Store gives you a pop-up offering that), and purchases are tracked separately between those, causing all your purchases to become invisible.
Go to Settings, log out of App Store, log in again, and you should receive a pop-up saying that your account is associated with a different store, offering to switch back. Now all apps are back and available for download. -

I've got a iPod classic 80g I've got loads of pictures on there and I want to get them off. I've tried something where the files I get off come up as thumbnails which I can't open. Is there any way of getting them off and viewing them as a normal photo?

I have an imac that has the panther upgrade disk. I need to reinstall the os, but cant because os 10.2 was preloaded on the computer. All I have is the upgrade disk, which wont do!! What do I do?!!
Why do you need to re-install? Try to fix the problem.
I would assume a 10.2 full install would be fairly cheap on ebay.

sometimes when i open a document that has a jpg saved on the page a message comes up saying that the link for the jpg is missing, and that I can repair, ignore or cancel. It is very tedious to repair the link and if I can not remember where the jpg is saved then there is nothing I can do. If I select ignore the jpg is gone and all that is left is a box where it should be with no fill/stroke.
Is there some way to embed jpgs so that they do not disappear?
I presume they disappear if I move the original jpg from my pic folder/delete it.

Get used to putting your linked files and your illustration in a unique
folder. That way, you can also zip the entire folder for transport to a
print shop or other end user.
You can embed the files into Illustrator instead of linking them, but with
multiple images embedded, your file size can get unmanageable. -

When I search my computer for them I can find them, but when I go to the location they say they are through my filem then pictures and then in my iphoto library, there not there at all. I know there all still on my computer somewhere i just want to be able to get them back into my iPhoto. please help me if you can, im not very computer smart when it comes to this stuff. Upgraded to IPhoto 6: Crashes and missing photos
Recently upgraded to IPhoto 6. I've had all previous incarnations of Iphoto and never had any issues up until now. After install, I was prompted to "rebuild my thumbnail cache", which I did. It crashed halfway through and I sent a note to Apple. Tried it again. Crashed again. Noticed that IPhoto had created 3 new rolls comprised of photos that were 3 to 4 years old, probably from the first IPhoto. In doing that, it lost my last three rolls, possibly more but I haven't noticed specifically. I had backed up my library using Retrospect to an external hard drive so I have all of the photos safely. How should I correct/fix this? Also, how can I get rid of all of my thumbnails. I absolutely hate them, they are useless clutter. Thanks in Advance.

Can you describe how you went about copying the other library folder over, where you placed it and how you went about importing?
You should just try placing that library folder in your Pictures folder, launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and, when asked, locate and select that newly copied library folder.
HOWEVER, after copying it to your Pictures folder and before launching iPhoto download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.

These black "frames" around the thumbnails are very handy as they let me know which ones have been accessed and which have not. Once I would click on the thumbnail, the "frame" around it would disappear. I could come back weeks later and tell what had been accessed and what hadn't.
I discovered this problem this spring when I upgraded to 4.0 in my laptop. I kept "nursing" the 3.6 in my desktop as I did not want to lose that feature. The other night I tried to update my 3.6 and, unfortunately, I got force-fed 6.0.
Anyhow, it has to be something you changed when 4.0 was brought out - and has stayed changed in 5.0 and 6.0. As noted above, the frames are still there if I go to the site with Internet Explorer.
