Upgrading to 1.1.4 and iTouch error (6)

I tried to upgrade from 1.1.3 to 1.1.4 and I received an error "An unknown error occured (6).
Clicking "OK" and I got a 2nd message indicating that "iTunes has detecting an iPod in recovery mode. You must Restore..."
The display shows a connector with an arrow pointing to an iTunes Icon.
When I try to restore I get the same message.
I disconnect, power down, reconnect and I have the same problem.
I disconnect, do a Reset, reconnect and the problem is the same.
Any ideas???
Gary

When I first had this issue, the only way I could fix it was to create a new XP user account, login there, then run the ipod update file directly from XP explorer (not from itunes).
Then, the last update I tried a week aog, I again had to do a full restore but this time the above fix no longer worked. During the multiple restore attempts, each time the ipod screen would suddenly display full white/bright...and the back would start to feel warm.
I eventually found a suggestion in one of the support files on this site that said to make sure the pod was plugged directly into a usb port on the main computer...not on a card reader etc., also make sure no other usb devices are connected. This solved the problem for me. Next step was to delete/re-install the USB device driver in windows using the latest version from Microsoft.
anyways, now it seems my touch's battery life is shot. I suspect from the full on white display/heating up of the back during the restore attempts. I get 3 or 4 hours of just music playback now...before could go 16-20 hrs easy per charge.

  • Upgrading to 4.2 iphone and ipad error "network connection timed out"

When trying to upgrade both ipad and iphone to 4.2 the download runs then stops with error message "network connection timed out" and says try again later. I have downloaded movies that take over an hour so I know it is not just time. I have trying turning off firewall and virus as well as empting cache and still no results. really believe it has something to do with windows 7 settings. any ideas?

I was having the same problem and after several weeks of technical support they basically gave-up and suggested I try installing Kaspersky KIS 2012 (not yet released, but available on their ftp download site as a "current version").
Anyway, I installed it and now I can update my iOS on my iPhone and iPad.  Voilla!  However, Kaspersky claim that this is not a common problem.  Yeah, right!
If you want to upgrade to KIS v12 (2012) or KAV v12 (2012), then here is how:
    1) Download v12 (2012) from the ftp site here:
    ftp://ftp2.kasperskyftp.com/consumer-products/Current_Versions/KIS2012/
    2) Disconnect from Internet (doh!)
    3) Stop Kaspersky (right click on the "K" in the tool tray and select "Exit")
    4) Uninstall Kaspersky from the Control Panel (Programs / Add-Delete Programs)
    5) Reboot after uninstalling old version
    6) After rebooting, install KIS/KAV v12 (2012)
    7) When it prompts for install key, re-connect to the Internet and enter the key code (usually on the back of the envelope the original installation disk is in).  The key code for earlier versions should work (at least it did for code with KIS 2010, two versions earlier).
    8) Reboot when done
Finally, if this works for you (or anyone else), please post here, since Kaspersky seems to think it is very rare case that it worked for me... ha!

  • Upgraded from Win7 to Win8 and getting errors. Any way of going back? U410

    Hey guys,
I just recieved my Ideapad U410 today and I was so psyched! I'm going to a seminar tomorrow, and since this is my only laptop, I really want it to work, so I can use it tomorrow.
Anyway. I figured that I might aswell just upgrade to Windows 8 right away, so after using the computer for maybe half an hour, I pay for Windows 8, and just do the install through the Windows 8 offer.
Windows 8 gets installed, and now I just keep getting errors. First of all, the Energy Management program didn't work and kept popping up everytime I restarted the computer. I downloaded a new driver for it, which seemed to fix it.
At the same time, a pop-up from Dolby Home Theater keeps popping up, telling me to install a valid driver. I've tried installing one, but either I didn't find the right one, or it just didn't work.
Then my WiFi starts going mental! After restarting the computer, it doesn't connect to the WiFi. It just sits there until I right click it to go into "Open Network and Sharing Center", and then it just hangs until I try to close the window. More hanging...... then the window closes and boom! I have WiFi!
The WiFi also started getting slow. Now I have read about the WiFi issues, but my computer was manufactured on 8/25/12, so there shouldn't be any! ....right???
I'm now thinking of doing a clean install of Windows 7 to get it to work, but I'm hopelessely confused about how it works now that there's an SSD drive in it too. I'm used to just being on an old desktop with ONE harddrive, not all this fancy new stuff
So......... basically what I'm asking is:
    - Is there a way to get my Windows 8 to work? Fixing the WiFi "hanging" and the Dolby Home Theater error?
    - Am I safe from the WiFi issues since my computer was manfufactured on 8/25/12?
    - Is there a guide that can show me how to do a clean Windows 7 install? Or maybe even get it back to how it was when I first recieved it?
Any help is GREATLY appreciated, guys! Thanks in advance!!
    Philip
EDIT: Picture of my upload speed being much higher than my download speed. Looks like I'm affected by the terrible WiFi too. http://speedtest.net/result/2359883449.png

Sorry, Apple does not support downgrading.
As to apps disappearing, it's not uncommon for apps to be removed from the app store. I have a couple of games that I play that are no longer available.
Did you install 8 'over the air'? If so, research into doing a restore. Use a computer to back up your device and then reinstall iOS8 via a computer, and then restore your data from the backup. Sometimes a clean install clears away glitches caused by over the air installs.
If you just wish to express your frustration to apple, on the lower right corner of this page is a 'contact us' link. Send them feedback and let them know.

  • Upgraded to 10.4 - Session and Backup Errors

    Hello All,
I just upgraded to 10.4 and now my IPhone 4 is having issues syncing.  First it was stuck in a verify mode.  Then the backup would not work.  I deleted all of my backups and tried again.  I either get a message saying that a backup could not be saved on this computer or a session could not be started.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Rob

All Set!  I had to uninstall every thing apple on my computer includeing the hardware drivers.  Once I reinstalled 10.4, Bonjour, etc and plugged in my phone it reinstalled the drivers and all was fine.  The problem was also happening on my IPad and IPod so I know that it was not my phone causing the problem.

My IMac just stopped recognizing my Iphone and Itouch when I connect them?  Any idea why or how to fix this?

Did You upgrade iOS on the iPhone and ITouch?
It might be that you now need a new version of iTunes for the new version of iOS.
I am guessing here because you did tell us very much to go on.

    Thanks b noir,
I tried this solution without success. After FixIt ran and didn't find a problem, either in looking for issues with "software upgrade" or "iTunes" it kindly offered to help me uninstall iTunes. I had thought of this as a possibilty but it seems to me that if you do that you lose a lot of "non-native-to-Apple" information you might have entered. I did this once and recovery was painfull. Is there a way to uninstall iTunes without losing all of that sort of thing? Any help would be appreciated.

  • I upgraded to iOS8.1.3, and now when I attempt to backup my iPad to iTunes for Windows, it keeps popping up an error message

    H. I upgraded to iOS8.1.3, and now when I attempt to backup my iPad to iTunes for Windows, it keeps popping up an error message "not enough space on the computer". There is over 130Gb of space! I have updated iTunes, but no change. Is it an issue in the iOS update? Or am I doing something wrong?
    Would appreciate your guidance...
    <Subject Edited by Host>

When you upgraded, itunes should have put a copy of the itunes library database in a folder named *Previous iTunes Libraries* . If you upgraded itunes today it will show as
    iTunes Library 2010-02-28.itl
Use these directions to get it back
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1967
Since I am not sure of your setup, look for the "Previous" folder on both your C: and F: drives.

The upgrade I'm interested is for OS X  v.10.8.5...
...The App Store page shows 2 different upgrades:
Mountain Lion  (10.8.5)  Software Upgrade,  and
    Yosemite FREE upgrade
If the App Store is showing 10.8.5 as an update, what do you currently have installed? The final update to Mountain Lion was 10.8.5, and since the basic OS installation of Mountain Lion is no longer offered in the App Store, that would suggest you're currently at an earlier version of Mountain Lion - 10.8.x where x=less than 5. If that's the case, I'd suggest getting the 10.8.5 update. There is also a Supplemental Update for 10.8.5 and that may be what the App Store is offering.

  • HT203200 I upgraded to 11.4 and get error message -50 when trying to signin. My PC is XP.

I reinstalled iTunes 10.? as could not previously show all new podcasts and apps, only some, this new upgrade showed all new podcasts and apps. But then could not sync at all so I downloaded 11.4, now I cannot signin and get ''We could not complete you iTunes store request. An unknown error occurred (-50).''. Have turned off Windows firewall to no avail. Firewall is not enacted in my other anti-virus program.

    Hello there 1Romans1,
In the research I have been doing it seems like this specific error is usually caused by some sort of security software as it secures incoming and outgoing packets. Take a look at this section of the article iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694#error50
    Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
There are other steps in the article but they are more for restoring/syncing issues. I feel these are the important ones for your situation.
    Regards,
    Sterling
