Upgrading to 10.4 Questions:

Hi,
Upgrading to 10.4
I have some questions about upgrading to Tiger 10.4
This is my System, etc:
I have a Power Mac G4 MDD Dual Boot 1.25 (SP) Model M9145LL/A. Running Panther 10.3.9 - 7W98 - Darwin 7.9.0
2 New Internal SATA H.D.'s, and 2 GB's of Ram.
A few months ago I added a Seritek 1S2 SATA Card and 2 WD SATA H.D.'s. I took the original 80 GB drive out and put it in a Firewire 400 OWC case, that has my OS and all my files on it, and it's bootable. I cloned it to my new Boot Drive a 640 GB WD with 2 partitions. One for OS and Programs and second partition for my files. My second new drive a 320 GB WD has 2 partitions, first one for Photoshop CS2 Scratch, and second partition for Video Scratch, for Popcorn, etc. I used Super Duper to clone. I got a lot of Great Advise on how to do this on the Apple Discussions Forum at the time I did this!
I'm now running Panther 10.3.9 and very occasionally boot into 9.2.2
My Original System came with Jaguar 10.2.7 then Upgraded to Panther 10.3
Then did the updates to 10.3.9
I want to upgrade my OS to be able to get the newer versions of Safari and Firefox and heard that Tiger runs CS2 better and is a more stable OS overall. Eventually want to do the updates to 10.4.11 which I hear is the best thing to do.
MY QUESTIONS:
Part 1:
I want to Upgrade to 10.4 Tiger. I currently have a Dual Boot System running 10.3.9 and 9.2.2
I would like to install a "Fresh" OS of Tiger "Only" as my new OS. Can I do this by using the "Archive and Install" Option?
Would Using This Option give me a Tiger Only new OS, omitting OS 9? And can I do this with a Upgrade or do I need a Full Version of Tiger?
To be able to Keep my Internet and Mail and other System Prefs the way they are now without having to reconfigure them, would choosing "Preserve User and Network Settings", take care of this?
Also, before doing all of this, should I use Disk Utility to Verify and Repair the volume? If so, do I use Disk Utility from the New Tiger Upgrade DVD or do I have to use the Disk Utility that came with my Panther 10.3 Upgrade C.D.'s?
What would be the Steps to do this?
Part 2:
(I know I have to find a Machine Specific Black DVD-ROM of Tiger 10.4) Will I have to Register this Upgrade? Will it have a New Serial Number or Not? Because I know it's hard to find these, if I found a person who has the right DVD for my machine at a good price, I was wondering if this Upgrade needed to be Registered or not to be able to use it, and get the Updates etc?? Or do I have to buy a Brand New Retail Version if I can find one, from an online store? Do you know of any online stores that have a Tiger Upgrade?
Part 3:
Will I also have to Upgrade my Norton Antivirus to a Newer Version for Tiger? I have version 9.0.4 now. What version do I need for Tiger?
I would Really Appreciate some answers to my questions and any other advice on doing this Upgrade Right.
Thank You.

Hi...I finally found an Upgrade for Tiger at AllMac.com
http://www.allmac.com/shop/productinfo.php?cPath=5_10003&productsid=6911
The one I got also, included an extra CD with Updaters to OS 10.4.11 along with Java and Security .dmg files.
After loading it all in and updating the OS to 10.4.11, I used Apple Software Update to download the Latest Java and Security updates. Also, got the Latest versions of Safari and Firefox.
All seems to be running OK. And didn't have any problems with Photoshop CS2 activation or running. Didn't have any problems with the latest Security Updates, as well.
Thank you.

I just bought a 2009 macbook pro with an os upgrade to lion. my question is how do i change the previous owners name (like when i bluetooth) to my name???

Your MBP should have been given to you with the original installation disks and OS.  The Lion OS is licensed to the person who sold it to you.  You will have create your own account and purchase Lion if you wish to use it.  Those are the stipulations in the licensing agreements.

  • Sold my 3G, Upgraded to 4 - SIM Questions

I posted this in the 3g section, but realized it probably belongs here. Sorry for the double post...
Ok, I know it's a good idea to remove the sim card but hear me out.
I just upgraded to the iphone 4 and sold my iphone 3g on ebay. The auction has already ended. I made a typo and said that the SIM card was included when I meant to say it wasn't.
So, my question is... does it really matter? I've wiped the data from the phone, restored the phone as new, and wiped again for good measure. My phone number is active on the new micro-SIM in the iphone 4.
Is there any security/privacy issue with shipping the old sim card to the buyer? I've contacted them to let them know, but if it's a moot point I'd rather just ship it than risk the negative feedback.
    Any help is appreciated.

The SIM Card does not store any information unless it's a normal phone to iPhone. If you don't have a SIM Card with the old phone, they can get a SIM Card with their contract. They can also pull out the old SIM Card and put a new one in as long as it's a 3G SIM.
After deactivating the old i3G, the SIM Card becomes useless.

  • 9i to 10g (10.2.0.4) Upgrade... some questions

    Hello,
I am currently analysing the upgrade requirements for my organisation to upgrade our Backend databases from 9i to 10g (release 10.2.0.4).
We are currently using a COTS application to interface the database. There are a number of things i am unsure of in regards to the prequisites etc that need to be completed.
Oracle is running on the HP-UX Operating system, our DBA's are quite happy with the upgrade process so not many issues here.
The questions i have are mainly from a Windows server interfacing point of view.
What versions of ODBC drivers are needed to talk to 10g?
Does the current version of SQL*Plus (8.0.5.0.0) need to be upgraded?
Do the version of Oracle Reporting still work? (9.0.2.3.0)?
Are there any deprecated SQL statements or such like that will be need to be checked for in current scripts / sql?
Is there anything else i need to be aware of during the upgrade?
    Rgds,

    Hi Andy,
10.2.0.4 is the latest release from Oracle. you can get more information from Metalink or oracle.com
On Metalink you can fin 10g Database Upgrade Companion for answers to most of your questions
    Hope that helps

  • IM3 upgrade to IM6 Amatuer Question...Does IM create HD by default?

Sorry if this seems a like a bit of a simple question. I have recently upgraded to IM6 from IM 3.0.3.
I'm just wondering if IM6 "HD" means that the projects I create and burn are High Definition by default?
Thanks for any and all advice.
    Adam

And just FYI: Currently the only way to "burn" HD content is with DVD Studio Pro. You can export H.264 which is an HD compliant standard.

  • 10.4.3 upgrade & archive install = flashing question mark

I upgraded to 10.4.3 reboot, flashing question mark appears.
Tried everything, PRAM zap, NVRAM reset, pull battery for a day and unplug. Reset PMU.
Tried combo update. Same flashing question mark. Boot from 10.4 DVD repair permissions all the time, repair disk, all is ok. Startup Disk selection to hard drive, see os x, reboot, flashing question mark again.
Reboot + Option, pulls up view, no startup disk shows, except for 10.4 dvd.
Target disk mode startup from another mac, boots up, run startup disk, shows the hard drive, select as startup, reboot, still flashing question mark.
Re-install os 10.4 - install 10.4.2 upgrade, still flashing question mark.
Have a Dual 1.2 G4 gig ethernet, 2gb ram, pulled out all but one ram chip tested booting with every different kind of ram configuration. Still flashing question mark.
QUESTION: Has anyone been able to fix this issue? I see it all over and nothing that really solves it?

i dont have a solution... but what you might want to do is reinstall 10.4.. upgrade to 10.4.2, reinstall everything you need and run yasu or cocktail..
then with carbon copy cloner.. make a backup of your system to another hard drive..
that way when 10.4.4 comes out... you can upgrade with out worrying if something bad happens.. hopefully by then theyll have everything worked out.

  • UPGRADING TO PALM TX QUESTIONS

My company currentely uses serveral old Palms SPT1800 Palm OS v4.1 we use them for our company shows that we have through out the Country to scan our item barcodes and take orders and have them printed out so our customers have a copy of there order. We would like to upgrade to something faster like the Palm TX. With these old Palms we use the Infrared Reader on our printers HP 4050's. We use a third party software called ALO. My question is this will it process much faster, does it come equipted with the BarCode scanner and do we need to purchase newer printers with bluetooth technology?
    Thanks

    Post relates to: Palm TX

Hello and thank you for using the Palm Help Forums!
I'll be glad to answer your questions for you. The Palm TX does support Infared (IR) technology. I don't think it will be much faster or anything seeing how IR is a slow method of transferring data or connected devices. It may be a more updated version of IR but I don't think it will be that much faster. This kind of answers another question you had; you won't have to upgrade to bluetooth printers. If you do however, the TX does support Bluetooth and Bluetooth is faster than IR.
The Palm TX unfortunately does not have a barcode scanner on them. You can probably purchase a 3rd party add on for it but this cannot be supported by Palm. If you have any questions about bar code scanners for Palm devices you will want to seek 3rd party assistance.
I hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. The Palm TX is a great device by the way, I'm sure you guys would love it.

  • Upgrading kt4v mobo, some questions

    hi,
recently I bought a Kt4v mobo, but I still use an amd 1.2 ghz duron as processor, therefore my mobo is set to 100fsb atm with is bad  ;(
I'm thinking about upgrading to an AMD athlon but I have some questions.
I'd like to get my FSB at 166, I'm currently using 2 256mb DDR ram sticks with a speed of 333mhz, is that possible?
(well, actualy one is 400mhz, but as this mobo only supports one stick of ddr400, it's set to 333)
what is the fastest Processor my mobo can handle with that kind of ram?
and should I change other speeds when installing it like my AGP bus speed etc.. to prevent them beiing damaged after upping the fsb?
that's all, If someone could answer these I'd be very gratefull, thx
    oh yeah, specs:
    AMD duron 1.2 ghz 200fsb
    KTV4 MSI mobo
Point of view Geforce 4 TI 4280 128mb

    or is it set automatically?
    Yepp!
    Quote
are Athlon Xp's unlocked by default...should set the multiplier like this then: 12.5 X 166= 2158 mhz
Just let the board handle it, all bios-settings on AUTO.
    Quote
250 watt which might be on the low side
I think the board wouldn't even boot... :D
Psu should have more then 25A/3.3V, 35A/5V and 200W combined power.

    Good question.
I believe that your SIM card should be interchangeable between your old 4GB iPhone and your new 8GB iPhone. Of course, if you take your SIM out of the old 4G what will the buyer of your 4G use for a SIM card to get started - are you planning to give him the non-registered SIM from the 8G that you get?
If not, how do you expect him to get a SIM card unless you expect him to have to buy one from AT&T?
I think that if the old SIM works, there should be no need to restart your two (2) year contract but first the old SIM needs to work.
    Let us know what happens.

  • ACS 5.1 upgrade to 5.5 question

    Hello Experts,
I am looking for some kind of process documentation for upgrading ACS 5.1 to 5.5, from Cisco's documention I found that first I have to upgrade 5.3 and then 5.5. I have two production ACS servers with Primary and Secondary. When upgrading to newer version, first I have to start with the secondary server and  de-register and upgrade to 5.3 and 5.5. When the secondary server is upgraded to version 5.5, then upgrade the Primary server and re-register the secondary server on the Primary server. My question is while I am upgrading the secondary and primary servers what will be the impact on the production like downtime and the risk factor, if anybody was on that situation and how did you plan for the upgrade process.
    Thanks!

Is this a system where a lot of M&T data has accumulated? How long has the system been installed? If so have you ever configured the M&T data to be purged?

  • Unity Connection 8.5 Upgrade to 10 Licensing Question

    Hello,
Have a question about the licensing migration of Unity Connection 8.5 Upgrade to 10, do we need to order a upgrade license via PUT tool for license migration, or we can just finish the migration without have Cisco licensing team involved?
    Thanks,

You need to order it through PUT, but keep in mind that you will not receive a PAK for CUCM or UCXN 9 or 10 as the licenses need to be migrated to ELM. Once you upgrade ELM will be installed on each node and you pick one as your ELM server, then you follow the steps to migrate your license directly from ELM, email the request to cisco licensing and they will provide the license. You have 60 days to install new license after the upgrade.

  • Upgrading to CU3, quick question - more questions after upgrade

So I am finally getting around to installing CU3 to our environment, upgrading from the base SCCM 2012 R2 install.  I am running SCCM in a 1 CAS and 3 Primary server environment.  I'll be upgrading the CAS first, and the update gives the option
of importing the client packages for upgrades into SCCM Software Library.  The question is, is should I be doing this on the CAS, as our CAS does not have any clients reporting to it?  Obviously I'll be importing them into the Primary sites, and
I wasn't planning on importing them into our CAS, but wanted to verify that is the correct action.

So I updated the CAS, and the primary sites, and I deployed the client upgrade packages to about 25 test machines. All the test machines received and updated successfully.  They have the updated version of x.1401 on the client sided, however it has
been almost 24 hours for some, and I only see three clients in the Device Collection node that's in the SCCM console that are reporting the new client version.  The ones that have reported back are those that have performed a hardware scan after the update.
     Is this normal?
Also when I go into Administration > Sites and look at the version being reported here, it is also on the old version, despite being correct in the About System Center Configuration Manager, and seeing the CU registry key reporting "3".  Is
    this normal?

  • Upgrading to R2 CU1 questions

    Hello,
We are in the process of upgrading our current SCCM 2012 SP1 CU4 to R2 with CU1.
    MY questions are:
Can you still use Windows XP in-place upgrade to Windows 7 ( Wipe and Load) with the new ADK 8.1 version and the new WinPe version installed with SCCM 2012 SP R2 CU1.?
Do we need to upgrade clients once we upgrade to SCCM SP1 R2 or we can just upgrade to CU1 and then only upgrade the clients?
    Thank you
    AA

Do we need to upgrade clients once we upgrade to SCCM SP1 R2 or we can just upgrade to CU1 and then only upgrade the clients?
    Thank you
    AA
R2 is client upgrade and CU1 is client update. So we need to upgrade clients to CM12 R2 first. Once your clients are in R2 you can update the clients using CU1 client update package which will get created part of CU1 update wizard. The below link provides
all the external and internal prerequisites for Client upgrade.

  • RAM upgrade T2000 - lots of questions

We want to upgrade the RAM in our T2000 but several questions have come up. I called Sun tech support but the rep wasn't certain about any of the answers. We have sixteen 512 MB DIMMs currently.
    - Our original service manual stated that the server can support up to 32 GB (16 slots x 2 GB max DIMM size) but the web site and latest manual have upped that to 64 GB (16 x 4 GB). The Sun tech support person thought that the increase may have due to a firmware update. I want to make sure we're not running an earlier hardware revision (our server shipped Nov '06) that only supports 32 GB.
    - The service manual says that "At minimum, rank 0 must be fully populated with eight DIMMS of the same capacity. DIMMs can be added eight at a time, of the same capacity, to fill rank 1." The support rep said that we only need to add two at a time, and the Sun and Crucial websites sell them in pairs. So can we upgrade just two at a time or do we need the full eight?
    - The pricing at the Sun Store for 8 GB RAM (2 x 4 GB kits) is pretty outrageous - $1540 vs. about $400 street price. The only difference that I could find was that the Sun Store mentions Chipkill and some of the other sites don't. I have read that Chipkill is implemented in the chipset and not the DIMM -- so is this not an issue? Are there any other technical concerns?
    - Will we invalidate our SunSpectrum plan if we use 3rd party memory? Of course, we wouldn't expect Sun to support the 3rd party memory itself. I just want to make sure they won't give us a hard time if an unrelated component fails.
    Thanks in advance!

No answer so I placed another call to Sun. There is no mention of a hardware revision in their internal documentation so all indications are that 64 GB is supported. We won't invalidate our agreement by using 3rd party RAM (although the RAM itself, of course, would not be supported). Also there is an internal sun document which confirms that we need to upgrade 8 DIMMs at a time. Also, found these notes from http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-61-205753-1 which state that all DIMMS need to be identically sized:
    [Sun Fire T1000]
    - 2 Ranks per channel (Rank0 - 2xDIMMs, Rank1 - 2xDIMMs).
    - 4 DIMMs slot per channel - max total 8xDDR-2 DIMMs in 2 channels)
    - All channels must be populated in the same way (Both Rank0 and Rank1, OR Rank0 ONLY - min of 4xDIMMs)
    - All DIMMs must be identically sized
So Memory DIMMs must be installed four at a time (with one pair on each controller). All DIMMs must have identical capacity. Two basic memory configurations are supported: 4-DIMM or 8-DIMM
    [Sun Fire T2000]
    - 2 Ranks per channel (Rank0 - 2xDIMMs, Rank1 - 2xDIMMs).
    - 4 DIMMs slot per channel - max total 16xDDR-2 DIMMs in 4 channels)
    - All channels must be populated in the same way (Both Rank0 and Rank1, OR Rank0 ONLY - min of 8xDIMMs)
    - All DIMMs must be identically sized
So Memory DIMMs must be installed eight at a time (with one pair on each controller). All DIMMs must have identical capacity. Two basic memory configurations are supported: 8-DIMM or 16-DIMM
