Upgrading to 2G, Is it really worth it?

I have the 1st generation iphone and wanted to upgrade to the 2.0 firmware but i have been reading all the problems you guys have been dealing with after upgrading. So it it really worth. I am really thinking about getting a blackberry. I have been doing some research on blackberries and most of their models do everything and more that the iphone 3g does. Has anyone ever had a blackberry and could tell me any problems they had with using one? Thank You and good luck to you guys that are having problems.

2.0 applications are nice, I also noticed the battery draining faster,however I have been using the poker game alot and IM. just turned push off as others suggested.I guess if you just want a phone for calls, and you cant charge in your car or elsewhere you might not update the software.My phone is over a year old (day one) and the battery is losing its edge a bit?

Is The iPhone 5 Really Worth It?

Hopefully I do not get bombarded by hardcore Apple fans but is the iPhone 5 really worth it. I used to have the iPhone 4S, but upgraded it to a Samsung Galaxy S3 and here is what I think of the iPhone 5. With phones like the Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S3, and the Nokia Lumia 920, I find it hard for the iPhone to win but some people are just brainwashed in Apple's company. The phone is like a iPod Touch 5G but the difference is that you can talk and text but with apps like Free SMS, in theory the only difference is the talk. iMean it is the same thing every year of realease, new hardware and design and new look, but the same interface. Personally I think that the 2 Samsungs and the Nokia are better phones but because of the people who don't realise Apple's products are the same every year one will sell more but it is not about how much it sells, it is about the overall phone. They even rip us off by changing the slot smaller so we have to pay EXTRA to get a converter or get a new dock. Anyway, any thoughts on this?

That's why there is choice in the marketplace - you buy whatever suits your needs/preferences best.
If you want to waste time learning where everything is in constantly changing interfaces every year, then that's your choice.
Many people like familiarity, and don't have time or inclination to re-learn how to use a phone every few months.

Is the apple router really worth it?

it is time to upgrade my router. I have an older linksys 802llb. Originally I had my heart set on going all apple but at almost $200 vs about $50 for a non apple version I am wondering if it makes a difference and if the apple router is worth the more $$$ and why.

Depends on your personal needs and perspectives.
Personally I love the style and ease of configuration of the Apple base stations.
However non-Apple routers are relatively easy to configure as well.
Printing and sharing hard drives certainly adds value to the 802.11n Airport Extreme, whilst AirTunes is a nice feature on the Airport Express.
In the end only you can decide.
Question, did you buy the cheapest computer you could buy, or were there other factors which influenced your purchasing decision?

Is a nforce4 mobo really worth it?

My specs are as follows:
athlon fx-55 processor
2x74g raptors raid 0 hard drives
1gb (512x2) OCZ el rev 2 ram
K8N Neo2 Nforce3 Motherboard
X800 pro agp 8x vid card
Is getting a Nforce4 mobo and buying another video card really worth it for me? If yes, how much of a improvement will I see?

I got lucky... I was able to enable all "hidden" hardware on my BFG 6800OC. It doesn't OC all that well but the enable HW more than makes up for it.

I have a new computer released right before Leopard came out. Is it really worth changing. What are the differences?

I second what Mevieth says. I would wait a few months for the bugs to be worked out. On the other hand, if it's your Powerbook you are planning to update, I spoke with a friend who loves the 'spaces' feature's ability to create multiple desktops for his powerbook . . . I have dual monitors on my G5 so it's not a big deal, but he loves it.
I upgraded due to the increased performance of OpenGL . . . for which my apps (After Effects in particular) have yet to catch up. So, if you have a specific reason to upgrade, double check and make sure it makes sense, and then upgrade if it does.
I probably should have waited. It would have saved me some stress.

OK, well i have herd both good and bad things on the arch linux x86_64. i just want to know is it really worth it if your computer can run it? or will other software come up todate with it, its actually pretty said though, that 64 bit os's has been out for some time now, and we still dont got wine, firefox, and simple thing like adobe fully working? should i go down to 32?

64bit firefox works fine. 32bit wine and flash both work fine on 64bit installs, the bin32 packages are in AUR. Pretty much any apps that don't have native 64bit versions have bin32 packages in AUR.
Adobe flash actually does have a 64bit build but adobe neglected to update it this past release cycle and the version thats availible has known and actively exploited security vulnerabilities. This is why its reccomended to use the bin32 version.
That said the only time youll probably ever notice a performance difference between 32bit and 64bit is with CPU intensive aplications, such as video encoding.
EDIT: Also you should search the forums before making posts. This topic gets brought up like once a day.

Is Internet Explorer Really Worth It?

I wanted to ask everyone whether IE is really worth the headaches? if your site was compatible with all browsers except for IE would you launch it?

IE9 is still by far the biggest chunk of the pie and can't be ignored. Depending on your viewer stats, you may or may not need to go backwards and support older versions like 6 or 7. I consider anything under 1.5-2% total viewership as "ignorable", but your mileage may vary.
For example, on one of my sites, all of the various IE's comprise 47.49% of my total viewers (which is down significantly from a few years back), of that, the following are the current percentages by version...
IE9 = 51.64% or 24.52% of total (can't ignore)
IE8 = 42.69% or 20.27% of total (can't ignore)
IE7 = 3.28% or 1.55% of total (ignoreable)
IE10 = 1.75% or 0.83% of total (ignored, but "should" be correct if I design with modern standards)
IE6 = 0.66% or 0.31% of total (ignored with a vengeance)
Now this is just one site with a very rural demographic, so you really need to look at your own audience and see what the numbers are before you can determine which browsers you no longer need to design fallbacks for. I suggest adding Google Analytics or another full-featured tracking system so you can see your real numbers and respond accordingly.

I have the same problem. Software Update sits for many hours, stating "Update Requested..." Gear spins slowly, but it reaches no conclusion. Tried restarting phone several times.

Is iPhone 3G REALLY worth it?

I currently have t-mobile and also do not have service where i live, which is the main reason i want to switch services. My contract ends in December, when ill be able to get any other service i want if i choose. These past few weeks, I've taken a special liking to the iPhone. Now, i was wondering peoples opinions on it that have the phone and i want to know if you guys think the 3G is REALLY worth spending basically 300 dollars on it in December, because ill have to pay for the phone, activation fee, plan, etc.(I'm a teenager so i kind of need unlimited text and a good minute plan, so id be looking at a 90 dollar plan now. Do you guys think the 3G is really worth paying 90 bucks every month along with the 200 for the phone?

The iPhone is definitely worth the money and I don't think you'll be disapointed with it one bit. I don't use mine for business, but I do have it set up to get my email, the google maps come in handy for road trips or whatever. I have been wanting one since the original iPhone came out and was finally able to get one after the release of the 3g. Really the only thing that I did not like was that you can't forward text messages, but so what. Overall it is a great phone that comes in really handy for whatever you need it for. My plan consists of 450 minutes, 5000 night and weekends, unlimited data and 1500 texts for about $90 a month and thats only a little more than I was paying for service at my last provider and with no data. I recomend, as others have on this post, to go to the apple store and play around with one to get a feel for it's features and texting to see if it's for you....if your concerned about the battery, don't be, unless your on it constantly. I have mine playing music throughout the day at work while texting every now and then, when I get home i'll browse around on the internet for a bit and maybe play a game or two for a little bit and have not had the battery die on me once....just make sure you plug it in every night so it's charged and ready to go in the morning.

I would recommend spending the extra $100 to get the 16GB model. (Yes, I know one's budget may not allow that luxury.)
Not sure how "durable" it is; I've had mine for almost two weeks and I haven't dropped it yet. My plan is to avoid dropping it, but I'm sure I'll not manage to avoid that eventuality.
The screen seems to be pretty scratch resistant, the metal back less so.
Very easy to use. The UI has no competition, right now, methinks. The kybd takes some getting used to, and while no one will write the great american email on it, it's better than my old Treo kybd. (Wrote this post on it.)

I like the Wi-fi, myself. I admit I haven't used in public yet, although I have taken it out with me, just haven't found a public network yet. And I do use it around the house. (And I've got 11 PC's here.) I use it when I'm watching TV in the family room, use it when I'm on the throne, use it when I'm on a PC but don't want to surf at that specific time on the PC I'm using. I'll freely admit that at least some of this use is based on the IPT being a new toy and me wanting to master the keyboard. That said, I am mastering the IPT kybd to the point where I'd feel comfortable leaving the laptop at home when I hit the road for personal reasons. No more dragging along the laptop bag.
Safari has crashed on me a few times in the last 12 days, but that hasn't freaked me out. This is the longest post/emal I've written and editing can, apparently, be cumbersome on longer compositions, i.e., no cursor key movement, one must move the insertion point via touch and that can be a frustrating exercize. When in editing mode, one cannot open another Safari page to, say, look up a word on a dictionary site.
Music and videos are super. I much prefer the music UI over the non-Touch models and I'm not even talking about coverflow, which I don't use. I'm pretty ambivalient about the other apps. If Apple changes the Calendar so one could create appointments then I would consider using it.
The alarm has possibility, but currently has problems.
All in all, I am -very- happy with my IPT. But whether you'd be happy with it is a question I cannot answer, so I will not make a buy/don't buy recommendation.

1. Takes longer to charge I would say almost double
2. Battery life is worse with use, standby seems to be the same. WiFi radio definitely uses way more than it used to. I used to leave it on and always leave it off unless needed.
3. Scrolling on flash sites very slow.
4. We already had flash "lite", flash 10.1 does not seem to be any better at all.
5. Crammed more bloat ware onto the device.
Pros: (no order)
Device is faster just a tad, but not enough to justify the loss of battery
Flash light app is good
HD recording seems about the same as my other 720 so its just nice to have it
App to SD is not really a benefit with Incredible because we have so much app RAM on the device anyway

Chrome to phone is great!

Any way of going back to io7 from io8, nothing works anymore. £500 plus worth of music apps not functioning anymore, is it really worth investing any more time or money into this product? what a joke it is.

Sorry, Apple does not support downgrading.
As to apps disappearing, it's not uncommon for apps to be removed from the app store. I have a couple of games that I play that are no longer available.
Did you install 8 'over the air'? If so, research into doing a restore. Use a computer to back up your device and then reinstall iOS8 via a computer, and then restore your data from the backup. Sometimes a clean install clears away glitches caused by over the air installs.

-dual NIC's and router, additional to the integrated in the chipset nVidia NIC there is now also possible the use of a second NIC depending on the board manufacturer working simultaneously via an integrated router.
-Lastly, depending on the board manufacturer, the possibility of 6 on-board analog Audio outputs (no need for a CNR) or/and an optical SPIDIF(?)
That's all it really is. So if you still can not hold your horses then be my guest and GO ON spend your beans in upgrading your very aged out nForce :P (not even a year long) into a new miraculous nForce2 which assuming you will not upgrade CPU, will give you a whole 10% boost maximum in real life applications....WOW!! :P :P ...i am impressed.
Nevertheless, not to be misunderstood, for the rest of the people (not already owning a nForce) nForce 2 is the ultimate Athlon CPU platform so far and the best upgrade someone can possible do. Especially for VIA guys :D
......I never in my life upgraded h/w within a year and possible never will. Never, really a Geek and always like to get my money back with time. Not really a consuming freak....sorry :P

Yup markoul, you're right and definitely have no plans to purchase an nForce2 as i'm still satisfied with my current one and the only weak link now is the int. GF2MX vid card.
Most of my friends are complaining that i'm underutilising my cpu anyway.... and i'm a guy who just upg. my pc for the first time in 5 years (yes, i was on a pentium based machine) so u could say i'm a slow tech adopter.
However i usually go for the std base platform at the time and i thought nforce will give me the best bang for the buck as it comes with int. GF2mx as i don't want to invest so soon on an external card yet with all the goodies on the horizon though most ppl don't understand why i stuck with this nforce.
I'm setting my eyes on the next 'evolution' and that's the clawhammer and if they are going to delay it, then by all means... better late with solid support rather than a finicky system.
Here's my wishlist:
1) an self-evolving system... hehe.. a system that gets better each time u use it..
2) vid cards that are socketed so u could change the VPU/GPU like mobos & cpus ... that'll be interesting but i think we'll need the vid card market to mature in size like the cpu market

No one here knows when the next iPhone will be released or what features it will have.
Only you can determine if you need a new phone now or if your current phone will continue to do the job until such time as another iPhone is released. And, only you can decided if the features of the iPhone 5 will meet your needs. There will always be a better, faster, more capable device released not too long after you buy what ever high tech device you buy be it computers, tablets, phones, cameras.
If you need a new phone now and the iPhone 5 meets your needs, there is no reason to think it will not continue to meet those needs even after the release of the next phone.
