Upgrading to 3G - selling original and SIM card confusion

A few days ago, I upgraded my original iPhone to the 3G. I'd now like to sell the original.
If it matters, the 3G is a refurb from ATT - part of the process was to call ATT's automated service which simply transfered my existing number to the new phone. (I did not swap SIM cards). The old phone now shows "No Service".
When I set up the new phone in iTunes, I used the "New Phone" option and simply re-synced my information.
I've used the secure Erase function on the original and the phone shows the connect-to-computer symbol as when new.
Everything I've read has said to remove the SIM before selling. Given the info I've provided, is that really necessary. What is the risk, or more specifically, what information could still be stored on the SIM card?
-phil

The old SIM card can be tossed out. As it was written to, and then deactivated and can not be touched again with another account.
All the new buyer needs to do is obtain a new SIM card from at&t and they can assist with activation of the new buyers iPhone.
I hope this clears things up a bit

How was this iPhone unlocked?  Did a carrier unlock for you?
If you did the unlocking by jailbreaking there is nothing anyone on here can do to help you.

  • Upgrade from 3gs to 4s ? Sim card

Anyone know how Apple deals with upgrading from the mini SIM in the 3GS to the micro SIM in 4 and 4S?
If I have a 3GS with it's old mini-SIM in it and pre-order a 4S from Apple for home delivery, will the new phone have a new micro SIM in it when it comes?  Will I need to deal directly with AT&T to link the new SIM to my old account/line, or does the activation process automatically do that?  Or might the 4S come SIMless, leading me to take the old SIM and cut it down to Micro-SIM size?   Anyone with experience from the 3GS to 4 upgrade have any light on the subject?
    Thanks.

As always - you should read the boards before posting:
    From other threads:
"The ATT carrier locked iPhone ships with a SIM card pre-installed.
When activating the new iPhone with ATT, your existing iPhone and SIM card will be deactivated at that time."

  • I lost my iPhone 5 and i wanted to know if i am able to track it down if its connected to a matcbook or any other compare without wifi and sim card?

i lost my iphone 5 and i wanted to know if i am able to track it down if its connected to a macbook or any type of computer without wifi and sim card? i have a lock on it but i still want to know if they try to reboot it will i be able to find out theyre doing it?

If you went into Find My iPhone and sent a lost request, or you tried a remote wipe, if the device was off line, then you would receive something if it was to go online. Did you have a passcode on the device? Did you have iOS 7 installed on it? If so, then even if they try to restore the phone, they will not be able to activate it because of Activation lock. Only certain things will get you a notification, and if they cannot get into the phone, you will not receive that. Without your Apple ID and password, the phone is useless to them if they try to restore it.

  • Selling iPhone - w/sim card?

I'm selling my iPhone 4 and am clear on how to wipe the phone and reset.  But what about the sim card?  Is that something personal, linked to my AT&T account or just generic, allowing access to the AT&T net?

    Inacurate response:
Either you do the unlock work and perform a restore on your iphone with your SIM card in from your end before shipping, the  remove it before shipping,
OR you ship it with your SIM card to let the buyer perform it (...happened to me twice)
    Process to unlock your iphone:
start with a request an unlock to your carrier (i.e. AT&T here - not for Verizon this requires the account holder to perform it with account still active),
    1.Request AT&T unlock online at: https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/client/en_US/termsAndCondition
    2.Check your status at: https://www.att.com/deviceunlockstatus/client/en_US/deviceunlockstatus_action
    3. Perform the restore as indicated below and then see a confirmation screen from Apple ITune when performing the restore.
Completing Your Authorized ATT Mobile Device Unlock
Thank you for contacting AT&T Customer Care about unlocking your AT&T Mobile device.
We have reviewed your request and confirmed that the device may be unlocked.
    1. Open iTunes on your Mac or PC and verify that you have Internet connectivity.
    2. Ensure the original SIM card that came with this device is inserted in your iPhone.
    3. Connect your iPhone using the dock connector to USB cable that came with your iPhone.
    4. Backup and restore your iPhone using iTunes. For information on backup and restore, please visit http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414.
    5. After restoring, your iPhone will be unlocked.

  • Unlock code and sim card

I just received an unlock code from AT&t for my iphone 4.  It says that the original sim card needs to be in the phone when connecting to iTunes.  I don't have the original sim card.  I am unlocking this because the person I sold it to wants to activiate with another company.  What do I do? thanks

Well if you don't have the original sim and if it is required to unlock the phone, then you can't unlock it.
Either way contact AT&T and see what they say -

  • Contact and sim card

    Hi
i have 250 sim contacts and 450 contacts on my e51. I want to do a sim card back up. How can i see which of my contacts are also sim contacts?
    Regards

It sounds as if your iPhone was previously hacked/modified/jailbroken
to work with other than the carrier to which it was locked. When you
updated, the iPhone got relocked to the original carrier. Contact
the original wireless provider as only they can unlock the iPhone
if they offer that service and if you qualify.
What does it say when you look at Setting=>General=>Carrier?
Is that the name of your wireless provider?
Remove and reset your SIM. Contact your provider for assistance.
Google may provide answers, but it is also possible that the
previous modification to your iPhone has now rendered it a brick.

  • Original iphone not original deactivated sim card

my friend gave me his original iphone without sim card so my daughter could use it as an ipod. he gave me an old att sim card as well that is not active.
iphone shows "slide for emergency" on the bottom of the screen and it shows the usb port in the back pointing to the itunes. every time i try to connect to the itunes the activation screen will show and wants me to activate the iphone. the old phone number associated with the sim card will show up and it asks me for area code and last 4 numbers of the social security. if i hit cancel it says activation cancelled and under neat it says "now it's safe to disconnect your iphone". while still connected i was able to drag songs to the iphone and it load the songs. also, there is a lock where the clock should show. I don't know what to do.
    please help!

According to Apples website the iphone is not available at all in Pakistan. If this is the case then there are NO authorized sellers in Pakistan at all.
Fake iphones come in new packaging as well.

  • Account suspended earlier than expected and Sim cards.

I was supposed to have my account suspended/frozen for about a year while I live in a different country. It was originally set on August 4th then I asked them push it back to August 21st, they said they did but it ended suspended on the 4th anyway. How can I get in contact with someone about this?
Also I was also told by the same customer service representative that my phone unlocks with a the sim card from the country I'm staying is added. Is that true? Because I may get that right away if my phone is not going to work.
    Thanks

Which phone do you have? If it is a global phone, you needed to unlock it while the account is active and in good standing.

  • 2 iPhones 2G and 3G for same number and sim card?

I am currently using my iPhone 3G. I still have my 2G iPhone. Today I felt like using my 2G. I placed the sim card from my 3G into my 2G and in iTunes I got promoted to activate the phone and line through AT&T (choosing minutes, sms etc) I did not proceed as i did not want to mess up my AT&T account. Why is it that I can not switch between both phones? Is there a way around this. I mean that same phone # was on my 2G before getting the 3G. Please help! I would like to able to use both?!

Yes you should be able to switch the device with no problem. I have done this with mine. The corporate discount I think just applies to the voice plan? If so it should also not present any activation problems. The AT&T site will probably not have this available until they have everything ready to go. You should see it updated in a few days at the most.
I was not seeing the activation charge but was seeing the upgrade fee. You may want to check on that one.

  • I have a macbook (2006) with 10.6 snow leopard installed. Can i get EA's origin and sims. It has a Intel Core 2 Duo

I have a Macbook 2006 with 10.6 snow leopard installed. I was wondering if i could get EA's origin download and sims 3 the game? The laptop has an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor.

Unfortunately no, I have e exact same problem. Our ancient laptops are to the full extent of upgrading available for its time..., I'm trying to find an older version of origin to download to my Mac at the moment... Take my email if you want and if I come across anything ill send you the link. The only other thing I can think of is to upgrade the entire Mac software to the newest version but that includes wiping out the entire system and hard drive and locating the software disc to do that and I'm not even sure if it will process all of that information since apple conciders our laptops "vintage" there's no way to go back because they don't support the software for these older ones anymore.
    Sorry.

  • Address book and Sim Card

Is there a way to completely delete all contacts from my sim card?  Also, how can I add my phone numbers from my address book to the sim card all at once instead of one by one?

    Hi,
SIM Card Contacts can only be deleetd one by one.
Address book entries cannot be copied to the SIM Card except by manually adding them.
The SIM Card has 99 entries MAX, with space for a single 10 digit number and (approx) 10 character name.
The blackberry has Home, Work, Mobile, fax numbers, email addresses, names, pictures, addresses and HEAPS of other details
There simply isnt the space to copy the data across and rather than allow you to copy  name and mobile only (and Loose all the other details) it doesnt allow you to do anything like that.
You KNOW that if they gave people the option they would blame RIM saying :"I thought it would copy EVERYTHING including the pictures to the SIM Card and still allow me to use it in another phone, etc, blah, blah, blah....."

  • HP 6910p laptop with Matshita ujda775 dvd drive and SIM Card slot

    Hello everyone ,
I have an HP Compaq 6910p with Windows 7 ultimate 32bit installed, the laptop has Matshita ujda775 DVD Drive,
After a search about its specifications I found on ehow - Matshita UJDA775 Specifications that it can write to CDs  but when I try it says "Blank CD/DVD not detected " .
how can I do it, If it is true that it can write to CDs?
Another question is how to use the SIM card slot in my laptop to connect to the internet?
    Thank you.

Yes it should burn CDs. Try the fix linked in this prior thread:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-e-g-Windows-8/Optical-Drive-Will-Not-Burn/m-p/2795995...
The SIM card slot takes a WAN card that must be registered on a network like Verizon or Sprint and will give you access like a smartphone. There is a monthly charge involved.

  • What is default contents of smartcard and SIM cards

    hello
plz tell me what is the default data on smartcards.(smartcard unique number and whatelse..)
what is the difference between SIM card and SmartCards other than physical size.
what is the default data we find on SIM cards.
    thanks in advance

    hi,
To answer the first question, what kind of smart card you are talking about ?
A credit card, a SIM card, a SAM card, a ID card, a cash card ?
Smart card is a generic name to define any plastic card sized as a credit card and embedding a microchip. For more information about what is a smart card, i advise you to google or read ISO7816 standard.
Your second question is answered above.
For the data that you can find in a SIM card, i will advise you to read GSM 11.11 specification that you can find for free on internet.
