Upgrading to a higher capacity HD on my G5 iMac

I want to upgrade the 80 GB HD on my iMac G5 (1.6 GHz) (pre iSite). I have purchased a 500 GB Seagate Baracuda eSata HD, (and have formatted it to be a bootable drive). I am running OS 10.5.8 on the iMac. What is the best software to use to transfer the data from the old HD to the new HD?
Time Machine, Superduper, Carbon Copy Cloner?
My plan is to transfer the data and then open up the computer and swap out HDs.

In your case, using Time Machine would be the simplest route, however, a TM backup is not bootable, while a SuperDuper clone is.
Should I install a new copy of OS 10.5.8 on the new drive, swap the drive out in my computer and >then use Time Machine to replace the rest of the software?
That would be the way to go, but if you ever need a bootable drive, your would have to beck up toe the TM drive. You can partition it so that TM would back up to one part, and SD to the other, providing the external if of a reasonable size. TM is a space, hog, but it will delete the oldest backups when it's full and keep on adding new ones.

  • HT201318 I upgraded my iCloud storage capacity for a higher tier and the device does not actually reflects said upgrade. How can this be resolved since my credit card was charged

I upgraded my Icloud storage capacity to a higher tier and my Iphone does not reflect the change although my credit card was charged and the device is nor properly backup. How can this be resolved?

It seems to take up to a couple of days for the upgrade to take hold, at least that's the experience of some users.  Give it 24 hours before contacting apple.

  • Upgrading RAM and Flash Storage for higher capacity

If I purchase a MacBook Pro with Retina Display with 8GB or RAM and 256GB Flash Drive, can I later upgrade the RAM and Flash Drive for higher capacity?

    Just to clarify...
If I were to purchase a "regular" MacBook Pro (non-"retina", DVD drive, FireWire port, etc.) and seek aftermarket options for...
(1: replacing the main RAM with 16 gigabytes of RAM (I understand that the newest "regular" MBP is limited to a BTO option of only 8 GB.)
    and
(2: replacing the hard drive with a larger-capacity aftermarket Solid State Drive, preferably one with a capacity of either 768 gigabytes or 1 terabyte.
Do such aftermarket options exist for the newest "regular" MacBook Pro? Can this model handle 16 GB of RAM? If there are aftermarket kits available, who installs them?

  • Can i exchange the HDD of macbook air with higher capacity?

hello all i would like to ask if i bought the macbook air 128GB, can iexchange the HDD to higher capacity 256 GB later or it can't be exchanged?
also is there is any one know the manufacturing country of the macbook airavailable on the apple.com site? is it made in US or made in China?
    thanks a lot in advance

Hi, it can't be upgraded (well not without some serious warranty voiding surgery to the internals). If you wanted to upgrade you would need to buy another one
Its designed in the US, built in China

  • Switching to FIOS, want the new high-capacity DVR. How can I guarantee getting one?

After 12 years I have to say goodbye to Dish because my old oaks are getting too tall and too wide and I don't have a clean line of sight...so I'm switching to FiOS.  I've gotten used to the best DVR in the industry, and I understand that there are new high capacity DVRs for FiOS that rival the Dish DVR's capacity.  How can I guarantee that when I order FiOS I'll get one?

You can't . Its whatever is put on the truck that morning. HOWEVER, you can do what I did and refuse the install. My installer was nice enough to go back to the office and get one for me. It is outgrageous to offer the older smaller equipment to new customers.

You can, if you can find one with the right size and voltage. There's always a risk with third-party accessories, you should judge that for yourself.

  • HT4914 will I need to upgrade my icloud storage capacity to hold my entire music library?

Will I need to upgrade my iCloud storage capacity to upload my entire music library into the itunes match?

No. iTunes match does not use your icloud storage. Match scans your library to determine which tracks are matched or uploaded.

  • Sun Solaris 10,Upgrade 8 or higher,having issues with VxFS,for Oracle 11gr2

A while ago, we tried doing a prototype upgrade of our main Oracle 10g db to Oracle 11gr2.
The OS on which our Oracle 10g is running is Sun Solaris 10, upgrade 4.
According to Oracle 11gr2 documentation, we need Sun Solaris 10, upgrade 6 or higher for Oracle 11g2.
The filesystem we are using is VxFS, Veritas File System.
According to our system administrator, we had issues , making Sun Solar 10, upgrade 8 , work with the VxFS filesystem.
I was wondering if anybody is running Oracle 11g2 on Sun Solaris 10 upgrade 6 or higher with VxFS file system.
At present, our Oracle db upgrade project is on a hold, because of the above issue. So your help on this , can really help us in figuring out if there is an issue between VxFS filesystem and Sun Solaris 10 OS.
    Thanks
    Ashish

    Hi Ashish,
We are not running Veritas Cluster file system.
We tried moving our Oracle 10g r2 db on ZFS ,before doing the upgrade and performance on ZFS was worst.
ZFS has certain memory parameter setting. If you did not configure that then ZFS will eat your complete system memory.
My system administrator, has gotten a copy of Solaris 10 upgrade 9 and will try that with VxFS.
I was curious to find out if folks are running Oracle 11g on Sun Solaris 10 with VxFS file system and if they had experienced any issue. If you can Install Vxfs on Oracle Soalris 10 U9, then according to me there sholudn't be any limitations for an oracle database.
Recently i installed Oracle database 11.2.0.2 on one of my test server. I have created two databases - one on ZFS and another on ASM.
    Refer:
    http://appsdbaworkshop.blogspot.com/2010/10/installation-of-11202-on-oracle-solaris.html
We dont have any performance issues. We are testing it for the performance benchmarks on both of the filesystem.
If you can Install Vxfs on Oracle Soalris 10 U9, then according to me there sholudn't be any limitations for an oracle database.

    hienn,
Not yet. There was an upgrade page to 10.8.2 for the late 2012 models but it's down now. I have to assume that Apple pulled it because of some bugs. I would look for something next week, more likely than not. In the meantime, the OP should be good with 10.8.1 until the update shows up again.

  • High Capacity storage using Express Card slot

    Hi guys,
I know this probably isn't the right forum but I couldn't find a more appropriate one.
I've got a MacBook Pro 2.16ghz Intel Core Duo and I need serious storage options!
I'm basically looking for high capacity RAID 5 storage to store/edit/capture onto. I edit mostly on SD but sometimes HDV (I own an HVR-Z1E). I've got a first edition MacBook Pro and so only have one firewire port which will be taken up when capturing by the camera.
I'm probably going to have to use the express card slot but haven't really thought about what card/wires yet. I'm wanting to spend under £1000 in total and would ideally like Raid 5 configuration to build some safety into my system (lost a project through a broken drive the other day). I'm hoping for a 2tb system or there abouts but am happy to go for less and keep plugging in more HDD later.
I was considering this la cie: http://www.lacie.com/uk/products/product.htm?pid=10850 but I'm very open to suggestion and at the moment am most concerned about data rate especially on capture. On RAID 5 is that a problem with this drive if I connected with USB2.0?
Sorry for the odd placement (I'd be happy to re-post in a more appropriate forum if that's useful).
    All the best,
    Dan

Alternatively you set up a gigabit network and use some NAS drives.... choices choices.
This stuff seems to have good reviews.

  • I have an iPod touch 2nd gen. Can I upgrade to a higher gen w/o buying a new iPod touch?

I have an IPod touch 2nd gen. Can I upgrade to a higher gen w/o buying another IPod touch? I have an iPhone4 which I love but don't want to get rid of the IPod touch.

No but they usually have one every year. If I had know Id get a free ipod 2 years ago when I bought mine if I got a macbook I wouldve ditched the PC and purchased a macbook and got an ipod as well, it was more of a sarcastic remark and heads up for future possible promotions that seem to be routine, than an actual statement.
PS: if your looking to upgrade and dont know what to do with your old one Id recommend recycle program apple has- 10%off purchase of a new one when you recycle old ipod touch with apple.

  • Discounted iphone upgrade at a higher price...

does anyone know what the pricing is for people that do not qualify for a full discount, but are offered a discounted iphone upgrade at a higher price?

It also depends on other factors such as how much you spend on your current plan and your payment history. Only AT&T can tell you what you qualify for.

  • Need high capacity DVD-R burner for high-capacity DVDs

I need to start burning high capacity DVDs, but they are only available (that I can find) in DVD+R. Per my profile, my drive burns only DVD-R, so I'm looking for a mac-compatible external drive that will burn DVD+R's.
Does anyone know of a source for these?
    Thanks.

Agreed on the Pioneer, and the media. Add Taiyo Yuden as desirable media.
Ditto on the Taiyo Yuden. Usually availably only through online retailers.
OS X Leopard supports burning to DVD-R DL, but doesn't support DVD+R DL.
The output for my DVR-110D in System Profiler shows DVD+R DL as supported:
    *PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-110D:*
    Firmware Revision: 1.41
    Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
    Cache: 2000 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media: Insert media and refresh to show available burn speeds

  • Upgrade Costs Too High

Does anyone else feel that the cost for upgrades is ridiculously highly?
Adobe has a great product CS but over the past few versions, I have felt that the changes to the new versions don't warrant the $800 - 1000+ costs for the upgrades. Those prices are more warranted for new full versions, but upgrades for 1 or 2 versions back should be 1/4 of what they are charging.

    Thanks,
I did post it on the link you provided.
    have a great day.
