Upgrading to Captivate 4 - Compatibility

If I upgrade to Captivate 4, will I be able to open and modify items created in Captivate 2?  Will I loose any functionality?  (I have a single user license and would no longer have access to Captivate 2 after the upgrade)

Hi again
I'm guessing that you were attempting to open Captivate output files? .CP files are the Captivate source files.
Consider that with Captivate you are going to work with the source .CP files. Think of these as you would Flour and Eggs and other ingredients in your kitchen. You mix them up and bake a cake. That's just like creating the .SWF or .EXE using Captivate. What you cannot do is to return the Cake back to Flour and Eggs and the other ingredients.
Is that maybe what happened? If so, please be advised that there is not (nor has there ever been) a version of Captivate that will allow decompiling things so that you may edit them later. You have to maintain copies of the .CP file.
Hopefully this helps... Rick

Are cp file extensions created with Captivate 4  compatable with Captivate 8?

    Hi there
I believe you will need a copy of version 5 or 6 to open the CP with and convert to a CPTX. Then you can open using 8.
Additionally, you may discover that things become a bit mangled during the upgrades. Many have not gone smoothly and have forced a rebuild of the project.

  • Upgrade macromedia captivate 1 to captivate 5

    hello,
I have version macromedia captivate 1 and I want to upgrade to captivate 5.
    Is it possible?
    Thank you.

    Hi there
I believe upgrading the software will occur fine. Where you will have issues is upgrading any projects you created in version 1 to work with version 5. I don't believe version 5 will understand the version 1 format. So you will likely need to find someone with a copy of version 2, 3 or 4 and upgrade any projects to one of those versions. THEN you can upgrade the project to version 5 format.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Upgrading to Captivate 8 with Technical Communication Suite subscription

I have a TCS5 subscription which includes Captivate 7 - I would like to upgrade to Captivate 8.  After advice from Adobe help team, I have uninstalled existing version of TCS and downloaded trial of current version which contains Captivate 8.  All programs install correctly but Captivate will only run as trial - even after signing in with my Adobe ID.  When installing there was a symbol next to Captivate 32 and 64 bit which says it will only install as a trial.  Is this available for existing subscription users yet?  If not - when will it be available?  I was led to believe at the time I got the subscription that I would have access to the latest software when it comes out.  Is this not the case?

See the announcement about the Captivate8 and presenter 10 updates for the TCS here: TCS 5.0.1 is here and Captivate 8 and Presenter 10 are part of it ! « TechComm Central by Adobe

  • Can you upgrade from Captivate 6 to 8

I wounder if anybody was able to upgrade from Captivate 6 to Captivate 8?

Critianaikido unfortunately it is necessary to have Captivate 7 to qualify for the Captivate 8 update.  You can find more details at Elearning Software, Screen Capture, Mobile Learning, HTML5 Publishing | Adobe Captivate 8.

  • Upgrade from Captivate 4 to eLearning Suite 6.1 was easy last year.  After re-installing, Captivate 5 is minimum requiry?! Now, I can't license anymore. What should I do?

Upgrade from Captivate 4 to eLearning Suite 6.1 was easy last year. Needed Cap4 for licensing eLearning Suite 6.1.
After re-installing Cap4 on a new PC, Captivate 5 (and other products like XSuite or CS6)  are minimum requiry?! Now, I can't license anymore. What should I do?
Here's the message i get (in German):
    "Seriennummer Upgrade
Die angegebene Seriennummer ist zwar gültig, auf diesem Computer wurde aber kein als Berechtigungsnachweis geeignetes Produkt gefunden"
"you're serial number is correct, but you don't own a product that is an eligibility verification".
Why is that? Is Cap 4 not eligible anymore?

First, thank you kglad. Contacting the support seemed to me like the ultimate last chance and since there are so many FAQs and informative forums and blogs I thought I could find an answer there, but, you were right. Contacting the support in that case was the only way to solve the problem.
Second, for everyone dealing wth a similar problem. Cap 4 is still eligible. It is just hided in the mask you have to insert your serial number. The support staff will fix your problem within a few seconds.

  • Adobe Captivate LMS Compatibility Guide - Anyone Interested??

Why is it so hard to find information about Captivate LMS Compatibility?
I'll admit to being somewhat frustrated with the lack of easily procurable information about how to make Adobe Captivate content compatible with the plethora of LMS products now flooding the marketplace.  (There are over 100.) I had hoped for years that Adobe would put up a site (or at least a page or two) that listed LMSs and laid out the correct settings in Captivate to use for each one.  Sadly this hasn't happened.  And the search function on this forum seems to be broken, which makes it more than hard to find information about a given named LMS.
So in desperation I've decided to try and provide a venue for this type of information myself.  I'm going to reserve a section on my website at www.infosemantics.com.au for information specific to Adobe Captivate LMS Compatibility.  I'll be listing anyLMS products there for which I can procure information related to using Captivate.  Headings on each LMS page will overview the LMS functionality, compatibilty with SCORM or AICC standards, any known issues with compatibility with Captivate content, what Cp quiz settings other users have found work successfully, as well as any modifications to templates, or workarounds that have proven useful.
Naturally, I only have access to a small number of LMS products for testing. So I'm enlisting help from any LMS users on this forum to provide suggestions and information collaboratively.
Here's what I need from you:
Simply go to http://www.infosemantics.com.au/contact and leave a message stating the brand and version of LMS/s you use, and a contact email address where I can reach you for information on how you got your Captivate content to work with it.  I will add a new page to the LMS Guide covering every LMS for which people offer information and add the info under each heading.  Each LMS page will also allow comments so that other users can offer feedback and suggestions.  If the volume of response is to high for mere comments, I can add a forum for each LMS where users can exchange information on what worked for them.  User's interested in a given LMS can subscribe to that page so that they will be notified via RSS of any updates to information.
I intend to create test projects in Cp5 that have various combinations of Quiz Settings which (according to user feedback) SHOULD WORK on each LMS.  You'll be able to download these zipped SCORM or AICC packages to test on your own LMS as well as the Captivate project files (cp and cptx format) used to create them, so that you can see the settings used.  Hopefully this will help you to debug compatibility with your own LMS.
You can also leave a message on the contact form if you are trying to use a particular LMS but haven't had much success and would appreciate getting information about it.  I can't promise to find the answers, but someone else that chimes in might be able to do so once they know you're looking.
My sincere hope is that over time this resource will build into something that will save a lot of time and angst for every Captivate developer trying to work with an ever-growing number of LMS products. More and more clients have them.  But it's a minefield out there.
Anyone interested in participating in this attempt?

No, I'm not only concerned with Cp5's LMS compatibility.
I intend to put up information about all Captivate versions that anyone can supply information on.  Most likely this will be from about Cp3 onward.

  • Need to upgrade to Captivate 4 and need answers before purchase!!

I called Adobe sales, customer service, and tech support and no one seems to have an answer for me and they put me on hold for over 15 mins so I am trying this forum for help.  So if any Captivate Gurus out there can answer my questions I would greatly appreciate it.
I currently have Macromedia Captivate 1 Education Version and would like to upgrade to Captivate 4.
    1. In Captivate 1 if you create Flash demos, it creates an HTML file and a SWF file. I heard from someone who has Captivate 3 that it now creates more than 2 files. Is this true for Captivate 4?
    2. I read in Captivate version comparison page that Captivate 4 has the ability to convert your Captivate demo in to PDF with Captivate 4. If so, will the PDF carry the 'demo features' or will it be a standard PDF?
    3. I have an Education version for Captivate 1 so is it cheaper to upgrade to Captivate 4 or just purchase Captivate 4 and does Captivate 4 have an education version?
    Thank you!!

We will be happy to try and help. Indeed you may end up with more than two files when you create content from version 4. Is this a problem? If so, why?

Please restate the question. I'm not sure I understand what you are asking. From what I understand, you end up with a PDF containing your Captivate output.

I think Adobe has education versions for most or all of their products. If Captivate 1 has an education version I'd be surprised if 4 didn't. But only Adobe Sales can definitively answer that. Or perhaps another user that purchased (or was denied purchase of) a Captivate 4 education version.

  • Trouble with upgrade to Captivate 4.0

I was just upgraded from Captivate 3.0 to 4.0.  I cannot open ".cp" files with 4.0.
Captive 3.0 ".exe" files still work ... but the .cp files give me an error message that captivate is not responding.
Is there something I need to do?
    We already removed 3.0.
    Thank you.

    Hi there
Was your Captivate 4 an upgrade? I ask because you mentioned that you uninstalled version 3.
I suppose it will help to know if Captivate simply works before attempting to troubleshoot an existing project. So I'd suggest you first test to ensure that you are able to create and save a very basic and simple project. Once you know whether that's working as expected, then you should dig deeper.
Layers... Ogres are like onions. With layers... End of story!

  • Keep Captivate 5 on PC when upgrade to Captivate 6?

I am currently using Captivate 5. I'd like to upgrade to Captivate 6, but I have one large project that is nearly done in Captivate 5 -- we just need to add the audio (narration and background music).
Is it possible to upgrade to Captivate 6 but also keep Captivate 5 on my PC, so that I could finish the online course in Captivate 5 (i.e., the same version that I used to develop it)?
Another related question would be: Is is possible to open a Captivate 5-developed course in Captivate 6 with minimal problems?
Thank you in advance for your experience and insights, experts and other Captivate users!
    - Jan

    Hello,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums.
You can have Adobe Captivate 5 and Adobe Captivate 6 on the same computer.
You can open CP5 project on CP6 but you can't open CP6 project on CP5

  • Can't open Captivate 6.0 subscription and can't upgrade to Captivate 7.0

I just tried to open Captivate 6.0 and it is asking me to license the software, per usual.  I'm on subscription.  Normally clicking the License This Software button logs me in with my user account.  Because of the upgrade to 7.0, it now stops at a page requiring a serial number.
I can't upgrade to 7.0 because I am on 10.6.8 (Mac) and that's as high as I can get on OS because of my MacBook version.
WTF Adobe???  I have a deadline of tomorrow and need to use your software -- which I have paid for!!!
Have been on hold waiting for Adobe Captivate product team for 55 minutes (and going) now.
You guys had better sort this out.  This is ridiculous!
Also... backwards compatability is kind of essential.  i.e., saving a Captivate file to a previous version so that co-worker, client, etc can open it if they have a previous version (even InDesign has this... not as easy as Photoshop or Illustrator, but you can still do it at least).  Can you please make that a high priority???  Thank you.

    Hi Deidre,
Sorry to hear about your problem.
I will make sure you recieve a call as soon as possible from Adobe to provide any possible help.
Please email thed etails of your Subscription and Machine as well as your Contact number to -- [email protected]

  • Is adobe captivate 7 compatable with OS X Yosemite?

I have a new Adobe Captivate 7 and after I installed it, the icon will bounce 3 or 4 times and then close. it will not run at all. I have a Macbook pro retina. Is adobe captivate compatable with OS X Yosemite?

    HI Phillip,
Captivate 7 does work with Yosemite but it is not tested with Restina Display. Can you try to install Captivate 8 trial version and see if you are getting the same issue?

  • Weird stuff happening after upgrade to Captivate 8

Until this week I was using Captivate 7. I've now upgraded to Cap. 8 and am finding odd things happening. The oddest that the audio from one presentation is now attached to a different presentation. I am quite spooked by this - I'm wondered what else has gone wrong in the upgrade that I haven't noticed.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I have spent most of the day repairing this problem so I am pretty frustrated right now.

Thanx for your post REILLY875 but this problem I have oocurs the minute you turn on the computer, before it even starts to Power On Self Test.  I can assure it has nothing to do with the loading of Windows drivers etc.
This delay I mentioned occurs from the moment I turn on the computer with the PrOn switch to the time it starts posting.  Once it starts the post procedure, all is then fine and it continues on to boot from the hard drive with no problems.
I made mention of the fact that it now also takes longer for the bios to detect the SATA drive, quite likely a minor fix on MSIs behalf due to some HDDs not spinning up quick enough causing HDD detection and boot problems.  I have read about this.  It could be they deliberatley added a delay to this detection process.  Not quite sure.
But in any case though, whilst this unusual sound I get from the speaker isn't a problem, it is quite strange as you say and is clearly not normal.  The really annoying thing is that it does it sometimes and not others.  I really hate intermittent type problems like this one.
I guess at the end of the day, unless your running a P4EE, what was the point of updating the bios.  I know all us hardcore computer enthusiasts do it because that's just what we do.  It's just a shame it wasn't more fool proof.
    Thanx.

  • Need help recording audio since upgrading to Captivate 5.5

I've been using Captivate for several years so I've become accustomed to recording vloiceovers for the slides in my projects. Over the year, the UI for the audio recording function had improved to the point where it worked quite well (v4.0).
Since upgrading to v5.5 this week, I've discovered some major (and welcome) improvements in the product. However, when I clicked the Record Audio icon, I was dismayed with the design of the new UI for this function.
Unless I am missing something, the new design has you open two modal dialog boxes in order to record audio for a selected slide, then Save and close both dialog boxes before you can select the next slide.
Please tell me I missed the place where you can view the slide note, record audio for the slide, then move to the next slide in a smooth (non-modal) movement as you could in v4.0.

Today I upgraded to v5.5 and I add a lot of audio slide by slide, from my slide notes.
I was looking forward to "new and improved" Captivate v5.5, but having seen the way Adobe have set up the recording to slide in v5.5 (and reading this thread) I am now already (less than 1 day into v5.5) regretting having had to pay for an upgrade only to find this area is worse than v4 and the fix will be in a future upgrade that I am expected to pay for again.
This does not bode well for the rest of v5.5 as far as I am concerned.
