Upgrading to CS5.5 but hitting a brick wall?

I am a writer that recently worked at a design firm and now I'm on my own.  I attempted to upgrade InDesign from CS4 to CS5.5 after responding to an Adobe invitation.  I primarily use InDesign to review the work of designers in their native files and to edit copy in the native files. I typically work in a word program and only use InDesign occassionally. Even though I'm not a regular user of the software I felt the upgrade price was fair and I wanted to stay as current as possible.
After I purchased the upgrade I was asked to supply the serial number of the existing product.  Because the existing product was purchased by my former employer I went back and forth attempting to obtain it.  I was chatting with Adobe all the while of course trying to figure out how to either install the program or get a refund.  Eventually I did received the serial numbers of CS2, CS3 and CS4 from my former employer and provided same to the Adobe representatives via chat.  After several chat sessions and calls I was told that the provided serial numbers would not work.  Of course that took about 60 days so I was beyond the refund period.  I've attempted calls, chats and tweets with no luck.  It's strange because I played by the rules, provided all the information ask for, and now I just can't seem to get customer care to help me.  On two occasions I've been told that a "senior" would help me with a "work around" but nothing has happened for several weeks.
Anyone on here have a suggestion?  I'm just asking to be treated fairly on this but it doesn't feel very fair right now.
Thanks much.
John

Apple help service is crap. I've been trying to contact someone for 2 days now and can't get through to anyone. My audiobooks have disappeared from my Library - I paid a lot of money for these! None of the 'contact us' buttons get me through to anyone, you get sent electronically from pillar to post and end up hitting a brick wall. What a disgusting service - they can't even design a simple way of contacting them. I thought microsoft were bad but Apple are even worse!

the thing is i never threw away the project plus i have a copy of it lol... it has something to do with me moving the folder im just sure of it. because when i checked the trash when i tried to delete that new folder, its there.... thats the only thing i deleted from the event library window. then the other projects that were useless that i threw away. should i restore those? i havent emptied my trash.
also i could never find where it saves everything... so i just did a search... (im not a very techy guy) plus im unsure how to back it up... if its a feature in the program then i havent figured it out yet...
but i think if i put the "final cut projects" folder back where i took it from it should be fine. im THINKING thats the case. the only problem is i dont know where i got it from. sounds silly i know but i found the folder from doing a search in finder.

  • I seem to have hit a brick wall with 10.7 Lion, downgrade to 10.6?

I upgraded to 10.7 Lion On the morning of the 20'th.
Since then, it almost feels as if i'm using a PC. If it can go wrong, it has.
My battery life is dismal, 3 hours at best from a full charge.
FREQUENT freezing (just getting to the point where I could submit my question i've had to restart, twice).
    Sluggish responce times.
My track pad will reecognize actions I haven't performed (such as pulling up Launchpad) - verified by letting my computer sit on a desk, untouched as it performs it's own actions.*
My track pad won't recognize inputs I have performed (such as pulling up Launchpad) - verified by having to perform said inputs several times.
My cursor will random fly about the screen (see above*)
My date and time are reset to default on startup/restart
Time Machine has stopped backing up
My Internet connection will frequently drop off.
Dashboard is VERY sluggish, on restart it can take several hours for everything to load (calculator, dictionary, translator, currency converter, calendar, and sticky notes - nothing overbearing in the least.)
My internal fan will not shut off, unless the computer is completely shut down ("not" as in even when my laptop is closed, it's still running at full blast)
    Applications frequently crash
Spotlight hasn't stopped indexing my system for two days now.
The list keeps going, and going, and going. as you can tell, my MBP bas more or less become a glorified paperweight.
I'm not a fan of most of the changes to 10.7, but I figured i'd accustom to them over time. With all the problems i've been having, though, I'd much rather just return to 10.6.
Is it possible to do so from a time Machine Backup? Everything i've read on reverting back to 10.6 was for the pre-release, and required partitioning the disk, i'd like to avoid that if possible.
I have the original installation disc my computer came with.
    Specs -
    2.8 GHz Core 2 Duo
    4GB 1067 Mhz DDR3
    NVIDIAGeForce 9400m 256 MB
500GB SATA disc, 353 GB free.

Ok, we will take you back to Snow Leopard, just follow this guide i've made since your TimeMachine doesn't seem to be functioning.
Back to Snow Leopard from Lion install method
Read and print out these instructions, your computer is going to be offline and you wil be cutoff from help until your machine is restored.
Clear the Desktop, Downloads and Trash of anything you wish to keep by placing their files in the respective Documents, Music, Pictures, Movie folders.
Disconnect your TimeMachine drive for now as we don't know it's state.
Backup ALL your Users folders (Documents, Pictures, Movies, Music etc) manually (drag and drop methods) to a (not TimeMachine) external powered drive (HFS+ journaled formatted in Disk Utility) and disconnect, your going to be wiping the entire disk of ALL DATA. (warning, everything will be gone and not recovered, OS, programs, files, Windows etc all gone.)
Note: You might want to hold c and boot off the 10.6 installer disk and use Disk Utility to format the new blank external drive instead of using OS X Lion that's hosed. Then reboot into Lion and copy files, be safer that way perhaps.
    Here we go!
Hold c and boot off the 10.6 installer disk that comes with your computer and second screen in just STOP there, don't install OS X yet.
Look at the Utilities Menu for Disk Utility.
On the left is the name of your hard drive maker, click it and Erase (format HFS+ Journaled), give it the same drive name as before, and click Erase...
(note: if you want to "scrub" the drive of old files that haven't been overwritten yet, then use the Security Option > Zero Erase, takes a lot longer)
This should wipe the drive of ALL partitions (GUID, OS X and 10.7 Recovery, Windows if present)
When it's done, quit and install OS X 10.6. Then install all your programs from fresh sources and validate/update.
When you setup a first account, use the same user name as before, this way you can simply drag and drop the content of your previous Users folders from the external drive right back into the new Users folders and everything should work peachy. Links in iTunes to music, playlists and iPhoto links especially.
Update OS X to 10.6.8 using the Combo Update for best results.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
(Note: If your original machine had 10.5 and you want the free iLife that comes with the disks with the computer, then you'll have to install 10.5 first using the same c boot/erase/format methods as above, then update to 10.6 via the disk, then Combo Update 10.6.8)
Final step optional but highly recommended.
A lot of people use a Carbon Copy Clone of their boot drive to a new HFS+Journaled external drive (used only for this purpose) as a "hold the option key" bootable backup in case something goes wrong with their boot drive or need to restore to a previous OS X version..  (in addition to TimeMachine drive for more immediate backups.)
It's not advised to have a Bootable Clone and a TimeMachine partition on the same external drive, as two drives gives hardware protection in case one fails.

  • Brick Wall Problem: Array of Clusters, Size of array from reference

    Good Morning Forums,
I have hit a brick wall with my application and I am hoping somebody can help!
I have an array of clusters of indeterminate size (the cluster is generic, data contained not relevant.).
Inputs to the VI are: a reference to the array, and a variant containing the data.
My problem is I need to determine the array size from these two inputs and I cannot find a way to do it!
If the array contained a standard data type I can use the class name property to determine data type, and the size of the array returned from "select size" property to determine dimension size.  With this information i can cast the variant into the correct data type and use this to determine the size of the array.  If the data is a cluster the class name simply returns "cluster" so I cannot cast the variant and therefore am unable to determine the size.
I am not worried about casting the data (once i determine the size this bit is no issue), I just need to determine the size (and preferably number of dimensions) of the array. Can this be done?
    Cheers for any help

There seem to be a couple of potential solutions.:
#1 if the varient is created within LabVIEW you can wite size(s) to a varient attribute.  This would be pretty straightforward and easy to implement- I imagine you would have thought of that so you may not have access to the code writing cluster to varient and it gets a bit trickier.
#2 cast the varient to string and return string length-  this should give you a measure of total size and you would need to know the size per element of cluster (just cast one instance of cluster array to varient and then to string with size and size++) but this only returns the total size of the array since nDim arrays are actually stored sequentially.
    Hope this helped

How can I download Camera Raw?  I bought CS2 a long time ago and it was upgraded to CS5 but I do not have Camera Raw plug in.  Thank you

Which camera make and model are your Raw files from?
Camera Raw ships with Photoshop and is constantly upgraded by Adobe to keep up with new cameras as they are released to market.
It's likely that your camera requires a version of Camera Raw which is not compatible with your CS5. Or you may simply need to upgrade Camera Raw via Help > Updates in Photoshop.

There is no such thing as a "pay once, use forever CC". It's strictly a subscription model that you can use as long as you pay for it. Your CS5 will give you a discount for the first year.

  • CS5 purchase upgrade to CS5.5

    Hello!
When I purchased CS5 my business partner and I were both eligable for the free upgrade to CS5.5 to be sent to us. She got hers but for some reason I never got mine and it slipped my mind. Now she is sending me files that she has worked on and I can't open because I don't have the upgrade. Is it possible to still get the upgrade since I was supposed to anyway?
Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • Upgrade to CS5.5

I bought the upgrade to CS5.5 (just for download not CD) using a Credit card from a relative, who created an Adobe account and used her e-mail
I registered successfully this upgrade in my personal Adobe account, under my name and my address.
It is easy with downloaded software purchases (if it is needed to download again) just go to the original account where the software was acquired and find there the download button.
But, in this case, the registration appears in my list of purchases but is no path to download it. As I would like to avoid paying the extra bucks to get the CD what could be procedure?

    Hi,
the problem is that Adobe allows in the link you mentioned download only a Windows version of Acrobat, that is a stand-alone app., not included in CS5... as may be seen in the endorsed picture

  • Photoshop CS6 issue with shortcuts and my keyboard after upgrade from CS5

I recently upgraded from CS5 Extended to CS6 Extended on my Mac (Mavericks), but installed it in English instead of German this time. I transferred most of my presets just fine, but none of the keyboard shortcuts were working. All I got was an unequal sign for all shortcuts and even manually changing them didn't get them to work. I found a few discussions about this issue and ended up adding a German keyboard, as I am always on the Romaji setting of my Kotoeri (Japanese) keyboard. That seemed to solve the issue, but only if I change to the German keyboard before opening Photoshop. Shortcuts don't work in CS5 anymore either unless I do. Sometimes the shortcuts also stop working a while after I change back to the Kotoeri keyboard.
Now I would like to know if there is any way to get around this issue. Isn't there a way to get my shortcuts working again without constantly having to change keyboards? I much prefer the Kotoeri one since the icon for the German keyboard in my menu bar looks extremely obnoxious, in my opinion. It's mostly a cosmetic thing to me, but I would love to get everything back to the way it was before.
I'd much appreciate any advice or help.

I am having a similar problem. Just upgraded to Apple Yosemite and all none of my keyboard shortcuts are working in a clean install of Photoshop CS6. Every menu item has some form of the ≠ sign. I've trashed the .plist file, rebuilt permissions, etc. Even basic keyboard commands, like Command-N for NEW or Command-Q for QUIT do not work. In fact, many don't show up in the menu at all. I don't have this issue in InDesign CS6 or Illustrator CS6. Every once in awhile, maybe 1 time out of 20, menus and keyboard shortcuts work properly, but I can't find any pattern.

  • Upgraded to CS5; TOC Links don't work in the created PDF from InDesign

We recently upgraded to CS5. When we convert our InDesign User Guide to PDF, the main TOC links don't work. The TOC does function from each chapter page but not from the main TOC. We have done our normal steps in Acrobat to link them. Same issue with various user guides that we have. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

Thanks for your reply. The problem is the whole page is one image and there should be several clickable areas which point to different links.
To solve this we have put a textbox over the clickable area, disabled the background and stroke and then right clicked on the textbox and used the hyperlink option to turn the whole box in to a hyperlink.
We tried several free PDF convertors which couldn’t handle this combination. Then we trailed it with the full desktop version of Adobe Acrobat Pro and it worked a treat. Unfortunately the client didn’t have that software so we signed them up to the online PDF convertor from Adobe and that isn’t handling it.
Here's the sample document: Dropbox - sample-link.docx we have been doing the tests with.

  • Upgraded to CS5 Illustrator form CS3 Illustrator. Colors are not printing correctly in CS5

I have just recently purchased CS5 Premium Suite.  I am working with Illustrator.  When I print my CS3  Illustrator files in CS5 the colors are not printing correctly.  Is there a way to fix this problem

I've been doing more troubleshooting since I wrote this post. I've now tried printing from a non-Adobe app and I'm getting the same margin error. So it is definitely a Xerox issue and I have a tech coming out on Monday.
The reason I originally figured it must be an CS5 issue is because just two weeks ago when I was using CS2, our landscape-oriented programs were printing with .25" margins as they should. Then last week after upgrading to CS5, the inside page (2nd page) was noticeably out of whack and shifted to the right (not left). But when I started trying to troubleshoot this week, everything started shifting to the left.
The only thing different between those two weeks was the fact I updated to CS5.
But obviously, my printer as decided to go to crap in more ways than one all in a two week period. Hopefully the tech can sort it out next Monday.
    Thanks!
