"Upgrading" to CS5 --- DON'T

I have been using CS5 for a month now (I've used Captivate since is it was RoboDemo). First on a converted project and now one from scratch. This is just one very buggy and unstable application. I've sent in over 20 bug reports and while Adobe is responsive, I shouldn't have to be reporting these many bugs -- especially in light of their protestations that they had this in beta for a year. Here's a sample of the issues I've seen:
Inserting an audio file onto a slide. The app just stops. Windows says it is running but it is unresponsive for 5 mins before I kill it and start it  back up.
Objects become "linked" in the time line so that when you turn off and on visability in the timeline, the wrong object turns off and on.This one scares me because it seem that there is some sort of corruption going on in the database.
The "effects" are just plain difficult to use.
You can't really layer them because earlier effects some how affect later ones with no real rhyme or reason.
If you do anything more interesting with several effects, you can't lock one to see the other (e.g., paths)
Because they don't have rulers, you have to guess where objects end up in the paths.
The "live" preview for crap.
The timeline is stupid...they only display the timeline for the object. However, intelligent people put objects in relationship to other objects...so having the main timeline at least visible would be nice, as would being able to hear the slide audio...it is supposed to be live  preview, after all.
I could go on. There's no longer an estimate for the project time (and if there is, it is DEEPLY hidden); Features that worked in previous versions don't work properly now.
If you have Flash and do your animations there, I'd keep going that way. I'm going back to that.
While I do appreciate Adobe's not abandoning this application, which I like and use DAILY, they really didn't help me at all, so ae word of caution.
And for anyone who would ask, I know Adobe doesn't read these and I have made my displeasure with their screwup known, ad nauseum. And just when I think it is going to work right, some other screw up manifests itself.

  • Upgraded to CS5; TOC Links don't work in the created PDF from InDesign

We recently upgraded to CS5. When we convert our InDesign User Guide to PDF, the main TOC links don't work. The TOC does function from each chapter page but not from the main TOC. We have done our normal steps in Acrobat to link them. Same issue with various user guides that we have. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

Thanks for your reply. The problem is the whole page is one image and there should be several clickable areas which point to different links.
To solve this we have put a textbox over the clickable area, disabled the background and stroke and then right clicked on the textbox and used the hyperlink option to turn the whole box in to a hyperlink.
We tried several free PDF convertors which couldn’t handle this combination. Then we trailed it with the full desktop version of Adobe Acrobat Pro and it worked a treat. Unfortunately the client didn’t have that software so we signed them up to the online PDF convertor from Adobe and that isn’t handling it.
Here's the sample document: Dropbox - sample-link.docx we have been doing the tests with.

I want to but Photoshop CS6 as an upgrade from CS5. Don't want to fool with CC

Photoshop CS6 will supposedly still be available for some time at least from Adobe.
Edit: What a regrettable developement at Adobe that CC business is …

There is none. Whatever you do to get rid of the older versions will inevitably do damage to shared components and other stuff of the new versions as well. That's just how it is with this approach... Uninstall the older versions, run the cleaner tool then reinstall CC 2014.

  • CS5 purchase upgrade to CS5.5

    Hello!
When I purchased CS5 my business partner and I were both eligable for the free upgrade to CS5.5 to be sent to us. She got hers but for some reason I never got mine and it slipped my mind. Now she is sending me files that she has worked on and I can't open because I don't have the upgrade. Is it possible to still get the upgrade since I was supposed to anyway?
Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • Photoshop CS6 issue with shortcuts and my keyboard after upgrade from CS5

I recently upgraded from CS5 Extended to CS6 Extended on my Mac (Mavericks), but installed it in English instead of German this time. I transferred most of my presets just fine, but none of the keyboard shortcuts were working. All I got was an unequal sign for all shortcuts and even manually changing them didn't get them to work. I found a few discussions about this issue and ended up adding a German keyboard, as I am always on the Romaji setting of my Kotoeri (Japanese) keyboard. That seemed to solve the issue, but only if I change to the German keyboard before opening Photoshop. Shortcuts don't work in CS5 anymore either unless I do. Sometimes the shortcuts also stop working a while after I change back to the Kotoeri keyboard.
Now I would like to know if there is any way to get around this issue. Isn't there a way to get my shortcuts working again without constantly having to change keyboards? I much prefer the Kotoeri one since the icon for the German keyboard in my menu bar looks extremely obnoxious, in my opinion. It's mostly a cosmetic thing to me, but I would love to get everything back to the way it was before.
I'd much appreciate any advice or help.

I am having a similar problem. Just upgraded to Apple Yosemite and all none of my keyboard shortcuts are working in a clean install of Photoshop CS6. Every menu item has some form of the ≠ sign. I've trashed the .plist file, rebuilt permissions, etc. Even basic keyboard commands, like Command-N for NEW or Command-Q for QUIT do not work. In fact, many don't show up in the menu at all. I don't have this issue in InDesign CS6 or Illustrator CS6. Every once in awhile, maybe 1 time out of 20, menus and keyboard shortcuts work properly, but I can't find any pattern.

  • After upgrading to CS5, printing PDFs has become a nightmare!

After upgrading to CS5, printing PDFs has become a nightmare!
    For example,
    1. It would never finish printing the file, just the first so many pages. So...
    2. I updated the driver, and then I could print one copy only without problems. But...
    3. I can never print more than one copy of a PDF without collate mis-sequence problems. It just does not print one whole copy before printing the next copy. And it goes back and forth printing some of the first copy, then the second, then a few pages from the first, etc. Eventually it all prints, but they are mixed up sequentially. But some pages are in order.  And...
    4. It prints soooo slow compared to before.

All I know is that before I could print fine and fast and in any quantity I wanted (while using CS3 Indesign exported PDFs and Booklet Spreads on my latest and greatest printer, a Color Ricoh SP C420 DN).
But now, since I upgraded to a Master Suite of CS5, at first it would never print the whole file, even once. And when I upgraded to the Universal Print Driver, and or any other drivers, it will only print one copy of a PDF without mis-sequencing the printed pages, and it is so slow. It is worthless.
    Pat-
P.S. I think I need to try to call Ricoh or something, but will that work? Sigh!
Yeah, this sounds like a general print driver problem with the newer versions of the Adobe products, not just Acrobat or ID. Ricoh may or may not have an updated driver, but theyare definitely the ones to ask.
You haven't told us the OS... Some Mac users have had good luck, I think, using the CUPS drivers with problem printers when the manufacturer doesn't have a solution, but I'm a Windows guy, so don't do much with Mac printing.

  • I just upgraded to CS5 from Dreamweaver 8 - where are my sites?

I just upgraded to CS5 from Dreamweaver 8. I am running Mac OS 10.5.8. I was expecting that when I launched CS5 for the first time it would find whatever files it need from my Dreamweaver 8 and my sites would be available in CS5. However, I don't see any of my sites that I manage regularly in Dreamweaver 8. How do I import them in?
    Thanks.

Beacuse of the upgrade to Mac OS X 10.7.3 my Dreamweaver 8 (unexpectedly) stopped working altogether so I had to upgrade to CS5.5
(which, functionally, I didn't even want to do (yet)).
Although it was an upgrade, it didn't take my site settings from v8.
How can I get them now, as Dreamweaver 8 stopped working!?
Please advice as there are settings in there that clients have entered themselves and are not tracked anywhere else.
Ansd is there a way to get CS5.5 to actually work with our html5 / css3 sites as it shows them all garbled?
I hoped this would at least solve this issue, but it sure hasn't :-(
    Kind regards

  • CS Design & Web Premium Upgrade from CS5.5 to CS6 on DVD

I would like to order a CS Design & Web Premium Upgrade from CS5.5 to CS6 (int. english, MAC) in the Adobe Shop.
I have a really low internet connection and can not download 4+GB, it does not work. Even files over 20MB are pure horror.
So why I can not order a DVD, I don't understand what's the problem to sell a DVD to customers?
    Regards,
    Bodo

Is it one file which I can do on an USB stick, and that file is ready for install?
Can I also burn it to DVD, or the file is too big to burn to DVD?

  • Can I simply upgrade from CS5.5 to CS6 without doing the Creative Cloud thing?

I don't want to start paying a monthly fee, but might be intereted in upgrading my CS5.5 to version 6.0.
I can read the FAQ's where others have asked this question - and the answer seems to be yes, but with no instructions - and there is no where on the site that I can find it as an option.
    Help, please?

  • How do I upgrade from CS5.5 to CS6 and how much does it cost in New Zealand?

How do I upgrade from CS5.5 to CS6 and how much does it cost in New Zealand?

If you don't want to go the Cloud route and subscribe then Adobe still sells CS6 (online only) via their website
    http://www.adobe.com/au/products/catalog/cs6._sl_id-contentfilter_sl_catalog_sl_software_s l_creativesuite6.html
(make sure you're in the NZ store - check the Country the link above the Copyright at the bottom LHS of the page)
Select your product then click Buy
I want to buy: Select Upgrade from the dropdown menu
    I own: <select your existing CS5.5 product>
    Complete your purchase.
Upgrade cost depends on which CS5.5 suite you own and which CS6 suite you want to upgrade to.

  • How to upgrade Photoshop CS5.1 To CS6

How do I go about doing this and what is the cost? I don't want any of this monthly plan nonsense I've seen floating around and tech support for Adobe is terrible. They keep putting me in a loop of questions online that don't answer anything and then tell me to go ask other people on forums. Why can't they have the kind of support Godaddy has? They even have an option to turn off the elevator music..... Yet, I can't even find a human to talk to here.
Anyway, I am thinking of upgrading. What are the perks and new features of doing so? I have a student discount and want to upgrade. What is the outright cost?

Full is the only Student Discount option. No upgrade from CS5
$350 Student Discount Full version Extended, which includes 3D features and Analysis tools. No upgrade option from CS5
However, you can upgrade but it is not a Student discount, just a regular discount everyone gets.
$200 Non Edu upgrade to Photoshop Standard, no 3D Feature or Analysis tools
$200 or $350, It depends what you want. You can trial CS6 here and decide.

  • Will a CS6 Master Collection upgrade for CS5.5 upgrade CS5 as well?

Basically, I want to upgrade my CS5 Master Collection using a CS5.5 to CS6 upgrade package. Can it be done or does Adobe differentiate between 5.0 and 5.5 upgrades?

YEs, CS5.5 is a separate, different version. If your CS6 serial os specifically tied to CS5.5 it may not work. Generally, though, this could work. Anyway, if you have specific questions contact sales support.

  • CS3 Mac - upgrade to CS5 Windows

Hopefully someone here can come up with a definitive answer please?
I have had CS3 installed and registered on a Mac since 2008. I want to upgrade to CS5 but change to Windows as that's my preference with photo editing software  (I already use Elements 7-8-9 on a PC).
Looking around, I just cannot find a definitive answer as to whether I can upgrade my Mac CS3 licence to a CS5 Windows licence - I see the question has been asked the other way round a few years back but the answers conflicted: Yes, no problem;  No, no way; yes but very complicated, have to write to Adobe. Not much help.
Can someone give me a definitive answer please rather than a guess? There is no way I can afford to buy the complete new product (I'm now a pensioner but have programmed since 1978 and been a photographer since 1961) so an upgrade is my only route. I don't want to buy the upgrade then find it's not working....
    Thanks.

This is just a user to user forum so no definative answers here.
Your best bet is to call Adobe and ask.  I know you can do it, just don't know the price.
Also, CS6 is set to start shipping on May 6.  If you buy CS5 now you will get a free upgrade to CS6.
