Upgrading to CS6 returns: "This serial number is not for a qualifying product"

I have CS5 and have been using it for about 2 years. The Serial number for CS5 it is registered to my adobe id.
So i decided to upgrade to CS6 today. I then registered that to my adobe id as well.
When i open CS6 and enter my new serial number, it tells me:
Serial Number you provided is valid, but a qualifying product could not be found on this computer
Which is strange because CS5 is currently installed and running on this computer
So it then prompts me to select a previous product that I own and enter the serial number for that. So I select CS5 and enter the serial number for my CS5 license.
However, it then tells me: "This serial number is not for a qualifying product. Please try another"
But it doesn't tell may any further details. I.e. Why is it not valid?
Can you help?
Thanks!

Brazzers234 is the serial number for CS5 also an upgrade?  The upgrade process is looking for a full version serial number.  You can determine what type of serial number is registered under your account at http://www.adobe.com/.  For additional details please see Find your serial number quickly - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/find-serial-number.html.
If you have verified that the CS5 serial number is a full version serial number or your previous full version serial number is still not accepted then please contact our support team directly at Contact Customer Care to verify the validity of the previous version serial number.

start the installation of design premium cs5.5 just to make sure you're using the correct serial number.  once your serial number is accepted you'll see a screen giving you the option to install none, some or all of the cs5.5 programs.  at that point you can quit and not install anything having verified your cs5.5 serial number if you want nothing cs5.5 on your computer.
on the other hand, if your cs5.5 serial number is not accepted, you'll pinpoint the problem.
or, if your cs5.5 number is accepted, you could install a cs5.5 program and then install cs6.  it should recognize you have a cs5.5 program installed and NOT prompt you for you cs5.5 serial number allowing you to continue with your cs6 installation.

I am trying to open a .indd file.  I am running Adobe InDesign CS5.  I got an error that plugins need to be updated.  When I try to install the updates, I get the error that says: "Error "This serial number is not for a qualifying product..." when installing an upgrade or upsell..."

Those files were created in a later version of InDesign. Have the person that created them save them back via IDML or you’ll need to upgrade.

I have the error "This serial number is not for a qualifying product. Please try another." I am trying to re-download software, which I thought I did so successfully until I needed to open a pdf and the "serial number upgrade" box opened and is telling me that the serial number from a business purchase is not for a qualifying product. Steps to get Acrobat X Standard on my computer?

Your message indicates that you are trying to upgrade from one Acrobat version to another.  You will need both serial numbers for the original (qualifying) product, as well as the new (upgraded) product.

  • This serial number is not for a qualifying product

So sick of spending hours with customer service resolving this issue, only to have to do it every curse-time I get a new machine--ughhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi Ned,
Yes, I'm installing an upgrade CS6 disc which i've been using for over a year now.  Here is the path:
    CS5 installed
adding CS6, it asks for CS5 serial--which is registered at Adobe and listed--I add the CS5 and end up with the serial number is not a qualifying etc..
I went through this March of last year and had to have my serial unlocked by pressing a hotkey, maybe command shift and clicking, some odd combination that gave me a code, which then allowed the live chat rep to give me a code to unlock it; this took many many many frustrating hours to resolve.  I asked the rep to attach our transcripts to my profile so that i wouldn't have to go through this again.  Well, here I am again, but this time it is worse because I cannot even find a live chat option as i keep getting bumped to forums.  Forums are great, but there should be an option aside from out/crowd sourcing.  It's all very frustrating.
I have a bulk license for CS5 and two individual discs/upgrade serials for CS6 for me and my coworker.  We are moving from iMacs to MBP, but it's not so easy.  On top of it all, my coworkers iMac's HD failed, so we can't unauthorize CS^ Creative Suite Standard.
Right now, on my new laptop, I've downloaded CS5, entered the serial number and it works.  I then d/l CS6(easier than waiting for an external HD for the disc), but I'm stuck at this issue.  My coworker is going to Alaska for two weeks and wants/needs to get a little work done while there, so I have until Wednesday to figure this out.
I believe I need to talk to a rep to unlock, but live chat(which is a crapshoot) is buried somewhere if it exists at all anymore.
    how's your day going?
    Kyle

  • Computer crash. Trying to install updates and get this error ""This serial number is not for a qualifying product. Please try another" when you enter a serial number in the Serial Number Upgrade screen."

My computer crashed.  Ugh.  I downloaded Photoshop CS3 (my first full version) and when I tried to upgrade ( I have upgrades to CS6) I get an error message.  I remember having to call Adobe for help when I purchased CS4 but can't find a number to call them.  I keep getting directed to help screens which are no help.
Any solutions?  Is there a "generic" serial number I can enter to get my upgrades installed?
I have a photoshoot that I need to edit asap.  I really don't  want to have to go back to CS3 version.
Thank you to anyone who can help!

Doglovr1 you will want to locate the qualifying full version serial number which qualifies you to upgrade to CS6.  I did review your account and the only full version serial number was for an education version of Photoshop Lightroom.
I would recommend contacting our support team directly at Contact Customer Care to see if the qualifying full version serial number can be found.  Also I would recommend referencing case 0181578817 which is your previous case from 2010.

  • Photoshop CS5 installs on Win 8.1, but won't update.  the error says, ""This serial number is not for a qualifying product..." when installing an upgrade or upsell".  PS CS5 12.0  is too downlevel to work on canon raw

I have contacted adobe CusServ 5 times.  Each time I get a different answer.  One even went so far as giving me a new, full product serial number which still would not allow updates to be applied.  Their only solution is to pay for the "cloud".  I don't need the "cloud".  My CS5 does everything I need and has worked great up until my computer died.  It was running win7 ultimate.  My new computer runs win 8.1.  Not the pro version.  Should I go to Corel, maybe they are more helpful?  Help please!
I have looked at the other similar issues here and the answers are all similar.  1)Contact CS agent.  Useless, they say come here to the forum.  2)apply SN from previous product.  Did that and loaded CS4 also.  No help.  3)Get a new serial number.  got a new SN for a full product from one of the CS agents.  Same problem.
I have deactivated, activated.  I have uninstalled and re-installed several times.  The CS agents I have spoken to were useless, the only way I could get them to try anything was to suggest that the problem was beyond their competency.  I refuse to pay $30 a month for the functionality I have all ready purchased.  Adobe is degenerating.  I hope more people reject the "cloud" concept.

    Hi Guys,
Ive got the same problems as you, Win XP SP2 on RAID 1 hard disk set on an AMD raid controller, but I have no driver to roll-back to.
Ive installed Photoshop CS3 and also Acrobat Standard 8 (which used to run fine on an old system), but all i get now is the blank window with the menu and title bar and thats all.
Can some one help?  (will this licensing patch resolve the issue - and where can i get it from?)
    Thanks

The messages you are receiving indicate that you are trying to install an upgrade version.  You are being asked to enter the name and serial number of the older product that you are upgrading from in order to prove that you qualify for using the upgrade.

  • Serial Number is not for a qualifying product

    Hello!
I just purchased a new Windows 8 laptop on which I want to load my existing copy of CS6 (I have the CD). I deactivated it on my old computer and tried to load it on my new one.  I'm receiving the following error message:
This serial number is not for a qualifying product. Please try another.
The only CS6 in the list of products to choose from is Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended and prior versions.
I verifed under my account on the adobe site that I had registered my copy of CS6.  I'm really not sure what else to do but at this point I'm lost without my Photoshop!!!
    Thank you for your assistance!

  • While upgrading Adobe Creative Suite CS4 ME into Adobe Creative Suite CS5.5 Design Premium, I get an error saying This serial number is not of a qualifying product, please try another. I used to be able to get a code from customer service but I can't get

While upgrading Adobe Creative Suite CS4 ME into Adobe Creative Suite CS5.5 Design Premium, I get an error saying This serial number is not of a qualifying product, please try another. I used to be able to get a code from customer service but I can't get to the chat. Please advise!!!!

MoeGhazal I reviewed your account and it looks like you have have upgraded from a CS4 volume license for Design Premium to a retail upgrade of Design Premium 5.5.
I also show that you made two purchases of CS5.5 Design Premium but the second purchase was canceled.  Please make sure you are utilizing the serial number which ends in 7886.
If you are using the correct serial number then it is likely the installer will not recognize your volume license CS4 serial number as being valid for an upgrade.  If you can contact our support team then you can be walked through an unlocking procedure to allow you to proceed with the installation.  You can contact our support team directly at Contact Customer Care.  You may want to try installing a web browser you have not previously utilized.  It is likely a toolbar or some other software application is affecting your ability to access chat support successfully.
If you are still unable to reach our support team then please verify the information under your account is accurate.  If you can please then update this discussion after confirming this then I can request a member of our support team contact you directly.
Again I would recommend reaching out directly if possible as it will be the most efficient method of resolving your current error.

  • "this serial number is not for a qulifying product. Please try another."

I just bought a new PC and I am trying to install Adobe Premium CS6 but I get the message: "this serial number is not for a qulifying product. Please try another." Adobe Premium CS6 does not exist as a choice on the product list given. What do I do?

Sounds like you're trying to install an upgrade version of CS6.
The only way that will work is if you already have a serial number for a qualifying CS5 product (which is what the installer is asking for).
If you do not have a CS5 serial number then you will not be able to use the CS6 upgrade.

  • "The serial number is not for a qualifying product. Please try another"

I purchased, downloaded, install and am using successfully
    ADOBE ACROBAT XI PRO
    Version (11.0.07)
    Installed 12.02.14
    Purchased 12.02.14
Adobe Acrobat XI Pro (Windows, English)
I have tried unsuccessfully to register 6+ times
    I receive the message:
The SN is not recognized (error statement= "The serial number is not for a qualifying product. Please try another")
I have a total of about 5 sessions that amounts to about one hour trying to solve a problem, navigating your website, going into endless cycles, and have noticed there is no way to call a phone number to fix a problem.
Is this the new Adobe Paradigm?
It appears to be an administrative problem with Adobe
    What is the fix?
    Please advise

The message means that you have an upgrade license. You just need to prove you are eligible by entering the serial number of the Acrobat 9 or X license that you have - that is the "qualifying" product. It is not asking you to enter the Acrobat XI license again, you already did that.
