Upgrading to Failsafe 3.x
Hi,
I want to upgrade our Oracle 7.3.4 database (with the old version of Oracle Failsafe) to a Oracle 8.1.6 with Oracle Failsafe 3.x . Who can answer the following questions:
1. in what order should I upgrade, first Failsafe then the database or the other way around?
2. should we also upgrade the SQLnet clients to SQLnet8 ??
3. and, last but not least, should we upgrade our Runtime Forms4.5 also??
thanx for co-thinking

Hi Joel!
You may find some additional info below. Please excuse any repetition of previous replies.
Mac OS X Versions 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4, are complete system upgrades that must be purchased.
The point upgrades, such as 10.1.x to 10.1.5 (Final) 10.2.x to 10.2.8 (Final), 10.3.x to 10.3.9 (Final), and 10.4.x to 10.4.8 (Pending), can be downloaded for free.
Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (US).
Panther, is no longer available directly from the Apple Online Store, as Tiger 10.4.x is the most up to date OS.
A Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs, or a Full Retail Version of the Tiger Install DVD, can be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, AppleRescue, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
Panther is only on CDs, not DVDs.
Additional info in these links.

Software Update, Upgrade: What's The Difference?
Once Panther 10.3.x is installed, you can use the 10.3.9 Combo Update, to upgrade to the final version.
If your Mac meets the System Requirements for Tiger, you could also consider installing that.
And then use the PPC 10.4.8 Combo Update.

Additionally,
"Tiger ships on a DVD, but if your Mac doesn’t have a built-in DVD-ROM player, you’ll need CD media. When you buy Mac OS X Tiger, you qualify to purchase Tiger CDs for only $9.95."

Install/upgrade failsafe 3.04 fails
Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade OFS 2.1.3 to 3.04 in Winnt 4.0 /sp6/MSCS server. Removing th OFS from node A works fine, but when I launch the Universal installer I get this error: a popup with message text "The exception unknown software exception (0xc00000fd) occurred in the application in location 0x77f8f205. Click OK to terminate the application".
The installer works in a workstation and our DEV server with no Cluster server installed but fails in cluster environment. Anybody with a solution for this problem?
Sincerely,
Pekka Klemola
email: [email protected]
nullDoes anyone has a document that describes this error and the solution?
I cannot test it on a testplant...so i have to make sure that this is the fix.

Sorry, stuck with what you have in the near term. There
is rumor of folks working on video upgrades via the
Thunderbolt port but that is sometime off.
Cpu? Doubt you can cange it but is it overclockable? Or can i get an i7? I dont know..
Umm.. thats it so please tell me what you guys know please.
I am pretty sure you can do overclocking when booted
into windows, but also need to get additional fan control
software and you will evetually be temperature limited.
The new Sandy Bridge processors supposedly have
a failsafe to turn things down if temps exceeded for
to long, but best to keep an eye on things.
On the Mac side, there is no means to overclock
the CPU.
BTW, the CPU you have you are stuck with as it is soldered to
the motherboard. -
Need to upgrade EP 6.0 SP 9 to higher version
Hi,
I have MDM 5.5 SP 6 running on Oracle 9.2 in Windows 2003 server. I had WAS 6.4 SP 9 and EP 6.0 SP 9 installed on the same server. I need to implement Universal Worklist (UWL) in EP 6.0. There were some packages missing in EP 6.0 SP 9 ( like System administration -> System configuration -> UWL administration) for which I need to install higher version on EP 6.0 . Also as MDM 5.5 is running on Oracle 9.2, I can not upgrade to Oracle 10.2 at present and hence EP 7.0 is out of question as WAS 7.0 will require Oracle 10.2.
Now can any one tell me which are the files to be downloaded from the following list which will ensure the installation of EP version which is higher than EP 6.0 SP 9 . Please remember I already have WAS 6.4 SP 9 and EP 6.0 SP 9 and hence need not download them. So which are the files I should download. What does the upgrade export files do?

Errors in Unity 4.2(1) after OS upgrade to Windows Server 2003
I upgraded our Unity VM only server to server 2003 and reinstalled Unity 4.2(1) and restored untiy from backup. After the restore there are multiple errors in the Application log. I have engaged two different Cisco TAC people and neither of them could help me in resolving these problems. Makes me lose confidence in Cisco when I can't even get an American based engineer who knows anything about Unity! Hopefully someone here knows something.
Application Log errors below:
CiscoUnity_Notifier - Event ID 1071 and 1023,
Active Server Pages - Event ID 5,
CiscoUnity_ConvSubscriber - Event ID 187,
VBRuntime - Event ID 1,
CiscoUnity_BMsgConnector - Event ID 10005.
DBWalker returns1 error relating to orphaned entries in the GlobalSubscribers table:

These rows have no corresponding GlobalLocation table entry and are likely 'stranded' in the directory from a previous install.

There are 3 main system accounts that Unity sets up when the application is installed (assuming you integrate with Exchange 2003). You actually specify the location for these objects during the permissions wizard and etc. The 2 accounts here are the primary system account for handling outside calls (Unity_) and the account used for failsafe operations (USbms_) - they are the 2 orphaned entries you see. It appears the location specified for these accounts may have been invalid during the reinstall or there was some other yet to be determined issue at play here that caused these accounts to be orphaned which is not good.
When you installed Win2K3 and then reinstalled Unity, did you set up Unity to the exact version and ES that your last DiRT backup was saved at? Also, did you specify the same OU's and etc when you ran the permissions wizard for where to import objects, create objects, and etc.
Can you attach a copy of the installation log and other application logs? I'll try to look further and see if I can be of more assistance.

Oracle 8i Failsafe, Windows 2000, AWE_WINDOW_MEMORY key
Issue: Upgrading the Physical memory on the Windows 2000 Advanced server running Oracle 8.1.7.4.1 to 8GB.
With ref. to metalink Doc ID: Note:225349.1
I understand, it is required to tweak the OS and Oracle 8i to an extent, in order to take advantage of the additional memory.
The following are the changes I am planning in order to have a successful transition.
- Adding the /PAE switch to the boot.ini file.
- Adding USE_INDIRECT_DATA_BUFFERS=TRUE parameter to the init.ora file.
- Setting DB_BLOCK_BUFFERS = 512000 in the init.ora file.
- Setting DB_BLOCK_LRU_LATCHES = 64 in the init.ora file.
- Setting SHARED_POOL_SIZE = 300M in the init.ora file.
- Adding the registry key AWE_WINDOW_MEMORY with a value equal to 4Gb. (HKLM\Software\Oracle\Homex)
Since this is a failsafe setup, we have multiple homes that showup in the registery (HKLM\Software\Oracle\Homex). I have HOME0 thro HOME3 on both the nodes fo the cluster.
My question is, to which home do i add the AWE_WINDOW_MEMORY key ?
Thanks
ShashiDear alanm.
Thanks for your reply.
Is your machine 32-bit based windows or 64-bit based?
You have set "4GT" with /3GB option.
Is it possible to set AWE_WINDOW_MEMORY over 3Giba bytes on 32-bit windows?
Best Regards.

Did it really fail due to file dependencies? Will it fix the problem by installing the missing packages on the running BE?You need to run this script from the CD or Install server: Solaris_10/Tools/Installers/liveupgrade20 when upgrading to 10 u7. I had run into this. Run the script and choose all the defaults. Liveupgrade will then not give the errors you have seen.

Hi,
I need to upgrade from oracle 10.2.0.1 (base) to 10.4.0.4 in a fail-safe cluster.
Questions:
1.If I upgrade each node as a alone server, ¿fail-safe cluster can run with 2 nodes in diferent versions? (for example one week, for rollback )
2. I have read how to upgrade a fail-safe cluster metalink document. Please, can somebody tell me the best form (or logical) to upgrade from 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.4 in this cluster?
for example:
1. Backup database
2. Upgrade node 1 to 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.4 (following metalink document)
3. Test database and applications
4. One week later the same in node 2 (only if it is possibly run oracle in different versions in failsafe, if not, install node 2 after node 1 works fine)
It´s my first failsafe environment, and i´m not sure how to do it.
Thanks a lot for your help!!!Welcome to the forums !
Pl see if MOS Doc 223709.1 (How to upgrade or apply a patch to the RDBMS in an Oracle Fail Safe environment) can help. I have no personal experience with Fail Safe.

Problem after upgrading ram in macbook pro 5,3 to 8gb
Hello.
I was trying to help my friend, to upgrade his macbook pro 5.3's memmory, from 4 gb to 8 gb.
We bought the cm3x8gsdkit1066:
Memory Configuration Dual Channel
Memory Type DDR3
Package - Memory Pin 204
Speed Rating PC3-8500 (1066MHz)
Package - Memory FormatSODIMM

As i see this, the memmory, should be fine, and suported, and the macbook accepts 8 gb as a max.
When the computer boots, it beeps 3 times, waits, and repeat it. I found this as a error code for the ram?
So my problem, what can i do to solve this problem? The macbook accepts the old ram, and boots up fine.
Best regards
Christian HolmIt may be that the RAM is not compatible or faulty for some reason. Have you tried to install it again just to make certain that it is seated correctly. If still no success, I would return it and get RAM from Crucial or OWC. They are the two vendors of failsafe Mac RAM.
Ciao.
8 Gb RAM for the mid 2009 MBP should cost about $50. If you paid the price on the link, you paid too much.

X86 server: Live Upgrade - now no grub
Hi,
I am did a live upgrade of a server in a test environment, the test server mirrors our production hosts. The problem I have is I do not have the luxury of doing live upgrade on another slice on the same disk. I am working with an x4600, so my primary root disk is c3t0d0, alternate disk: c3t1d0. Since I do not have the ability to use c3t0d0 as a location of another BE, I am stuck using the only other disk, c3t1d0. So am left breaking the mirror and live upgrading to c3t1d0. Now the problem, once I complete the LU successfully, and everything is tested, we now make the new BE gold and basically sync up the old BE drive (c3t0d0) to the new BE (c3t1d0). HERE COMES MY ISSUES: The problem is once I do that i no longer have grub.
I receive this error when I run bootadm list-menu:
# bootadm list-menu
mount: /dev/md/dsk/d0 no such device
bootadm: mount of /dev/md/dsk/d0 (fstype ufs) failed
bootadm: cannot find GRUB menu
and you guess it, once I reboot, I am hosed. So I am left with going into single-user mode off of my jumpstart server. once I do that I add the following on both disks (c3t0d0 and c3t1d0)
#---------- ADDED BY BOOTADM - DO NOT EDIT ----------
title Solaris 10 8/07 s10x_u4wos_10 X86
kernel /platform/i86pc/multiboot
module /platform/i86pc/boot_archive
#---------------------END BOOTADM--------------------
#---------- ADDED BY BOOTADM - DO NOT EDIT ----------
title Solaris failsafe
kernel /boot/multiboot kernel/unix -s -B console=ttya
module /boot/x86.miniroot-safe
#---------------------END BOOTADM--------------------
title Solaris 10 8/07 s10x_u4wos_10 X86 (single-user)
kernel /platform/i86pc/multiboot -s -B console=ttya
module /platform/i86pc/boot_archive
The server come up just fine, but STILL, when I do a bootadm list-menu, it STILL references the following:
# bootadm list-menu
mount: /dev/md/dsk/d0 or /tmp/GRUB_slice_mntpt.891, no such file or directory
bootadm: mount of /dev/md/dsk/d0 (fstype ufs) failed
bootadm: cannot find GRUB menu
any help would be appreciated, I know this is not the ideal usage of live upgrade, but when I have no other option, what am I suppose to do?
thankscat /etc/lu/GRUB_slice
set the PHYS_SLICE and LOG_SLICE to the correct one,
also check /etc/lu/GRUB_root and make sure the correct disk (either single disk or metadisk) is listed there. -
I am using 3.1.2 and I want to upgrade to 3.3.1. I can't find this product in the download list. From where can I download it.
Thanks for pointing it out.. you can get the download at: http://otn.oracle.com/software/tech/windows/failsafe/content.html

"Insufficient disk space" to upgrade Aperture library to v.3
I'm getting an "Insufficient disk space" and then an "upgrade failed" error when launching Aperture 3 with my old Aperture 2 library, hoping to upgrade it. My Aperture 2 library is 85.94 GB, and I have 15.31 GB free on my 250 GB disk.
Does anyone know how much space it needs for the upgrade? How can I get this working? Thanks for your help.presta wrote:
I can't believe that Aperture 3 – with the "update imaging" box unchecked – will increase the size of my database by +over 18%+ and this is just really badly designed.
I do not know but I am wondering if there is some faulty arithmetic going on and it's not looking for say 20% more space, but over 100% more space? In other words, I wonder if people with more free space on their system than their Aperture Library size are seeing this problem. Those with less free space than the size of their library may share your problem. That certainly would be a bug rather than a design flaw I would think, but I don't know what the AP3 format conversion is doing internally in the library before it finishes the process. If you wanted a failsafe method, you could design it in a way that virtually duplicated everything and only did the final step of deleting the AP2 originals when the revisions were successful. Sounds speculative but someone else needs to respond here that only has a modest amount of free space like you yet converted a large library successfully with all the bells and whistles turned on (new RAW, new imaging).
You might be able to call an talk to an Apple technician as I'm sure if there is a bug or design flaw, others will have called already to get the workaround. Unfortunately I won't have the problem that I am suspecting since my free space is greater than my library on this new iMac.

Oracle Services for MSCS FailSafe Version 3.3.2
When i need to move all resources from one node to another all resources move but not the Oracle Services for MSCS FailSafe Version 3.3.2.
We only move if i shutdown the node where the service is.
What is wrong? Can some one help me please?
Thanks for advance
AGDid you upgrade from a previous version of Aperture?
You still seem to have an incompatible version of the "AccountConfigurationPlugin" installed. To solve this, you will need to reinstall Aperture from your original installation media, or if you installed from the AppStore, to completely uninstall it and download again.
See this support article:
Aperture 3.4: May quit unexpectedly on launch after updating
Post back, if this fixes it. There have been a few similar crash logs lately, and it would be good to know, if the fix above also worked in your case.

Login problem after testing upgrade today
Yeah problem after upgrade again After i enter my username and password to login to Gnome, i get the message
Your session only tested less than 10 seconds. If you
have not logged out yourself, this could mean that there
is some installation problem or that you may be out of
diskspace. Try logging in with one of the failsafe
sessions to see if you can fix this problem
I sure am not out of disk space so what could the problem be? I am using windows for now till i can find a solution.
Thanks.Sigi wrote:
first do a
pacman -Sy libstdc++5
and see if this solves your problem (more info here)
If this doesn't help post you /var/log/Xorg.0.log, please
Cheers Sigi
libstdc++5 has already been installed. Anyway here is the Xorg.0.log and xsession.errors files

Is what shows up after I install something with Yaourt. The weird thing is it only shows packages I've recently installed (flashplugin from [testin], picasa from AUR and the fonts from AUR). Doesn't make sense because I don't think it upgraded pacman or anything when I upgraded to [testing]. BTW everything still installs fine, just that's pretty annoying still.
EDIT: IN attempt to reinstall yaourt, I get this, potentially a permissions problem?

I'll try root and see if it helps things out.
And no problems as root...why are the permissions defaulting to the wrong thing?
Also, every thing I try, pacman always sets the permissions wrong (tried as root, with youart, wihout it, with sudo, etc). I gotta run chmod -R 755 /usr/local/pacman/local every time to fix it, why isn't it setting it right by default?
EDIT: Looks like a bug to me, so I bugreported it http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/12187

Unfortunately, that is not what you're facing. It looks to me like hardware incompatibility, possibly the cpufreq module. Paste your lspci, rc.conf and mkinitcpio.conf and hope for further assistance. It will also be good if you could include the output of mkinitcpio -p kernel26 and mkinitcpio -vp kernel26 (pastebin this one; it'll be very long).

"Background App Refresh" does not refresh
I have trouble with my Podcasts app (it crashes when I open it) and I noticed the following bug: If I go in "Setting > Podcasts", there is the option "Background App Refresh" switched on, and I can switch it off. I switch it off. I go back to setting
