Upgrading to Family Pack

I purchased a single-install version of iWork '08 thinking I would install it on only one computer but Numbers is so great, I want to install it on my other two machines. Is there a way to "upgrade" my single-install serial number with a Family Pack serial number?
Thanks,
Jerry

This question came up quite a few times after family packs were introduced for iWork '05 a few months after the original release. The answer was "no." But there is a 10- or 14-day return policy on unopened software. You could return the single-license & buy a family pack.
I suggest anyone not sure if they will want a single license or family pack to download the iWork '08 trial & use it before you decide.

    Hi
I think I know the answer to this but just wanted to confirm. I have a single account mobile me and wanted to know if I could upgrade to family pack or add one more e-mail account without having to pay the full cost of a new family pack (ie £87)

You will be charged the proportion of the difference between the individual and family pack for the remaining time of your current year's subscription, as long as you pay by credit card. If you buy a 'retail pack' you will have to wait until the current subscription expires.
A Family Pack gives you four sub-accounts, each with its own email address. There are no email-only accounts.

  • Upgrade single family pack?

I'm leaving Monday on a business trip for which I'll need a spreadsheet on my laptop, so today (Saturday) went to the local Apple Store and bought a copy of iWork '08. I'm working my way through Numbers right now and so far everything is going well.
Just one problem: I wanted to buy a Family Pack so I could also install it on my desktop Mac. But they were sold out of Family Packs - all they had were the single-user version, so I had to buy what they had.
Is it going to be possible to pay the extra $20 and upgrade to a Family Pack? Thanks...

No, there is no upgrade path. A search of this forum probably would have returned several threads on the subject.
You can remove iWork '08 from your desktop Mac & put it on your MacBook/MacBook Pro to remain within the single-user license.
When the Apple Store didn't have the family pack, you could just use the trial version for up to 30 days. You could then order the family pack online & just enter the serial number on your Macs after you get it (this is what I did).

  • Personal Domain for two sites on Family Pack

Can you use two personal domains with iWeb if you are using a Family Pack/.mac?
I have a single .mac now for family and would like to upgrade to family pack and have a small portion for an upcoming home business with its own personal doman.
    TIA

I think you want something setup like I have right now - and it works. I have two sites on .mac using iWeb. The first main site is designated with a personal domain. The second has one, but I cannot use it because the whole .mac preference is for all the sites. So I went to my host name provider (domainit.com) and they offer one free "forward" for that personal domain - all I did was type in the site name where it should point to. Now, it wasnt the standard "web.mac.com" because my .mac is designated with a personal domain. For that second site it is mypersonaldomain.com/site. When I enter my domain for that second site, it says the namein the browser bar, but at the bottom of the browser you can see the original full path of mypersonaldomain.com/site.
So, you dont need to have another web host (web space/storage). You can have a primary personal domain working with .mac and then have the second personal domain point to (forward) the second site (that now is a sub of the first personal domain).
Now that I talked in circles, HTH just a bit.

  • Upgrading to 10.5 - Do I need a family pack?

I have a mac book pro and a powerpc g5. I want to upgrade them both to leopard and I'm getting conflicting messages about whether I can do it with a single user license or not. Can I? Do I have to buy the family package?

I don't agree. It looks to me that he asked that exact question and that would begin the point where it gets silly.
The way I read this thread is that someone wants to know if you need a family pack to install Leopard onto multiple computers (Post 1).
He's told that he actually needs the family pack or he will be breaking the EULA (Post 2)
He then posts a question if it will be difficult to do with just the *single user version* (Post 3) The it in the first post is to use a single user license on multiple computers.
Now if the original message didn't already say he wanted to install a single license to multiple computers, then maybe his question should be "would it be hard to install Leopard to a single machine?" That question has nothing to do with this thread.
That's the way it reads. No mind reading is possible. I read what he says and don't assume anything. If the subject is changed, then post a new thread or at least make it clear the subject has changed. He still needs a family pack to install Leopard to multiple computers. If he doesn't want to buy one, then he will have to go elsewhere for installation information that breaks the EULA.
The original post was not a silly question.

  • Do we have to upgrade HRMS 11.5.10.2 Family Pack I to Family Pack K?

    Hi,
Just a really quick question. Do we need to do a HRMS upgrade from 11.5.10.2 Family Pack I to Family Pack K to get isetup working? Our DBA has identified through analyzing the recommended patches (for 11.5.10.2) that this is a pre-requisite. We really want to try and minimise testing\effort in getting isetup working.. can we avoid applying some patches? is there an alternative? or do we need to be on family pack K and apply all the recommended patches?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Well I really want to know if we have to apply the patch 5201280 which has the prequisite of being on Family pack K.. Can we skip this patch?
The README file of Patch 5201280 says you need to have (Patch 3333633 - Oracle HRMS Family Pack J) applied as a pre-req. (NOT Family pack K).

  • Upgrade from a single license to a family pack...?

Is it possible to upgrade a single user license for iWork 09 to a family pack? Sorry for posting here, there is no forum under iWork it seems. Thanks for any help.

I also would like to possibly do the same thing. When I upgraded to iLife '09, I only owned 1 Macbook, now I own 2 Macbooks and I would like to upgrade to family license. When I upgrade can't I resale my single user copy?
Check your licence agreement. If it doesn't prohibit transferring the (single user) licence, then it would seem reasonable to assume you can do so. Being neither a lawyer nor an Apple representative, my advice remains the same as before: This might be a question best answered at an Apple Store or another authorized reseller.

    Rajesh,
Please note that (Patch 2304444 - Marketing Online Release 11.5.7B) is already included in 11.5.9, 11.5.10, and 11.5.10.2, and you are already on 11.5.10.2. So, why would you need to apply this patch?

  • IPod Touch upgrade to use iMessage and it syncs with Dad's iPhone info!!! Using family pack Mobile Me. HELP???

I have three children that use iPod Touches. They are all iOS5 capable. I upgraded the first one this morning and it synced with my iPhone profile on iCloud. It asked for the iTunes account information which is what I believe caused this. We use Mobile Me Family Pack and each of the children have a unique @me.com account. How do I fix this problem so that each iPod has it's own unique login so that iMessage will work? I don't really want to open them up to any further exposure  on the Web though... . As it stands I am able "micromanage" their contact list via Mobile Me. Is there any way to make the iPods behave correctly and still maintain parental control as well as allow them to keep their unique profiles and contact lists???
...and for some reason, after upgrading my son's iPod Touch... his apps all disappeared from the device??? Strange, as this worked perfectly when I upgraded my iPhone yesterday.
PS. All my upgrades are current. iOS5 on iPhone 4, iTunes 10.5 on MBP.

I spent about 2 hours on the phone with Apple Support... had to restore both devices! Arrrgggghhh!!! Thankfully the iPhone had a Backup from yesterday. The iPod wasn't too tough to get back up and running either... although we had to completely reload it as if it were new. Then we found out that Apple won't let the device login with my son's @me.com email because he's too young (10). Quick work-around for now until Apple fixes this was to lie about his age in the setup. I don't like the work around, but it worked.

  • Can Mac Box Set Family Pack (10.6)  upgrade Tiger (10.4) ?

    Hello,
I bought "Mac Box Set Family Pack (10.6)" (Product Number MC210Z/A) primarily to upgrade three Leopard Al Macbook machines.
I have two Tiger (10.4.11) - one MB white with Core 2 Duo and one MBP with Core Duo. May I know if the upgrade will work for these machines as well ?
    Thanks!

Hi. A couple of corrections. Mr. Mossberg is at the Wall Street Journal. He in fact, let the cat out of the bag that you can indeed upgrade directly from Tiger. see here:
    http://theappleblog.com/2009/08/27/tip-from-mossberg-snow-leopard-upgrade-good-f or-all/
That being said, I have not tried this myself, so I cannot say with certainty that it will work.
A good idea would be to try to upgrade to an external FW drive, so you can test first. Second, remember that you will need to update many apps that are Tiger apps to work with SL.
    Good luck
    David

  • Upgrading hard drive + Leopard family pack

I'm about to upgrade my hard drive from the 80gb it came with to a 350gb. I have time machine so everything is backed up and I have leopard installed from a family pack on this hard drive. I am hoping to use that same install cd to install leopard on the new hard drive is it possible to use the same leopard installation on the new hard drive since I'm no longer going to be using the old hard drive? If so how do I go about doing so? Thanks

Correct. The install DVD doesn't count the number of installations you do, it is limited to 5 users by the legal agreement. You agree to these with every Apple software product when it pops up with the Agree/Disagree dialog box. Legitimate use is also assumed by the ethical level of Mac users.
If it was limited to five installations and you had to reinstall more than five times on one disk, it would lock you out, but it doesn't. I've had to do several reinstalls on my aging MacBook Pro, but have not installed on more than five computers (actually only two computers), but have done the install more than a total of five times.
You might consider V.K.'s method of restoring. I'm not as familiar with Time Machine capabilities. I use Time Machine and it has pulled my fat from the fire more than once by being able to restore individual files, but I have not done a complete restore using Time Machine.
You might do a search on this forum for detailed instructions about a complete restore using Time Machine.

  • Upgrading to OS X 10.5 with Family Packs

I would like to update my old PowerPMacs and my Intel iMac to OS X 10.5 Leopard on the following computers:
    eMac 700Mhz running 10.3.9
    12in Powerbook 867Mhz running 10.3.9
    15in Powerbook 1.67Ghz running 10.4.11
20i Intel iMac 2 Ghz CoreDuo running 10.4.11
I know it might be impossible to actually get hold of Leopard nowadays, my eMac and 12inch Powerbook might struggle to run Leopard, and I will want to upgrade the iMac further, but my main question is this. If I see a 'used' copy of a Family Pack for`Leopard, say on eBay, is it safe to buy? Or if it says it has been used on two computers, will I only be able to install it on three of my own?
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. The older Macs are running things like Youtube slowly at low res, and Flash video sites are a pain. Plus the 15in Powerbook keeps looking for plugin updates on everything. I know upgrading to Leopard is as far as I can go on the PowerPc Macs, but as the computers can still be used, I would like to get them running as best as possible, even if this circumstance will obviously reoccur as time goes on.
    Mark

I wonder if there would be any point trying to get a Family pack for 10.4 Tiger for the eMac and 12inch Powerbook! lol
I wouldn't think so. Installing Tiger is not going to rejuvenate them.
Is there a link tro the various types of OS X upgrades? I should be trying to get discs that are black with the large'X' across the full disc, correct? The grey discs that come with your Macs are not the ones to get (Install/Recovery)?
Correct, the grey disks are model specfic and they may not load.
The following shows retail disks OS 10.1 10.2 10.3
    -----------------------------  10.4 10.5 10.6
The point to consider is the last one, Snow Leopard (for your intel) was until recently, availble for only $30. It may still be possible to order one if you ring an Apple store.

  • Upgrading to iLife Family Pack

    Hello
I owned iLife 08 for my Macbook but we now have two more Macbooks in the house so I purchased the Family Pack.
Can I change licence somewhere on the Macbook where it is already installed so that the Single User licence is available for me to sell, as I have the Family Pack? I will just install the Family Pack on the others.
    Many thanks
    Deborah

    Deborah:
You don't need to worry about licenses. Just install the the family pack on the other Macs. That's all that's necessary.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
