Upgrading to FCP studio 3 from 2.0

If i upgrade to FCP studio 3.0 for $300 do I need all my serial numbers or just the main one for FCP for all components such as motion and dvd studio to work?
Thanks!

When you insert the FCS 3 installer disc it will ask for the serial number. Enter the # that came with it.
It will then prompt: "You have entered an upgrade serial number. Please enter the original serial number. That's where you put in the serial # from the old full retail version.
That's all. If you got it right, the installer will proceed to the next step.

  • DVD Pro 4 upgrade to FCP Studio?

    Hi
I have DVD Pro 2 on my Mac and can buy a v4 upgrade which gives me the chance to get the FCP Studio from Apple store.
My question is: What do I need for the upgrade to the Studio version?
Point is, I have DVD Pro 2 installed on my Mac but the v4 I will get from a friend in Australia, which the physical shippment will cost more than the whole software.
Is it enough when he will send me all the serial numbers which are with the (original shrinkwrapped) software or do I need to install the software to be able to install (or order) the FCP Studio upgrade?
    Thanks a lot Wolfgang
    G4 933   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

You need the actual instal disc itself - as Apple ask for it to be sent back as proof of purchase. You don't need to install the software, though. I would get him to send you the DVD and serial number stickers only.
Be aware that the Studio upgrade dosn't include any printed manuals, just electronic .pdfs.

  • FCP 4 upgrade to FCP Studio 2?

I've got a lovely crumpled piece of paper here that I never filled out - an upgrade from FCP 4 to FCP Studio for a very reasonable rate - about $199 from memory.
Does this sort of upgrade still exist for Studio 2? Anybody? All I can find is the $700 package...

Your lovely crumpled paper expired in march.
The upgrade path from FCP4 to FCS2 is now $700.
Still, don't kick yourself too much as you didn't really lose any money by waiting.
If you had done the cross grade things would have worked out like this:
    FCP4 to FCP 5.1 > $200
    FCP 5.1 to FCS2 > $500
    total > $700
    have fun.

  • FCP Studio 2 upgrade question (upgrade to FCP Studio 3)

Final Cut license allows a one-time permanent transfer to another party. One of my customers would like to transfer their Final Cut Studio 2 license to me in lieu of payment. I would upgrade to Final Cut Studio 3, but they upgraded from FCP 4 to FCP 5 and can't find their original serial. I've got the FCP 5 (Studio 2) license serial number.
Question: Will the FCP Studio 3 installer want the FCP 4 license, or will it be happy with the upgraded FCP 5 serial?
Thanks to anyone who knows and takes the time to respond.

they upgraded from FCP 4 to FCP 5 and can't find their original serial.
No go. You need the original s/n from a *full price retail version*. Even FCP 1 will do.

  • Will there be upgrade to FCP Studio X

I'm interested in upgrading my Final Cut Pro, but have always upgraded from Studio. I don't see this listed anywhere. Do I just need to wait or how does this work now that we have to purchase from the app store?
    thanks,
    Dave

    It is unfair !
We have been paying so many euro to upgrade from FCP to FCP studio
and the impossibility to read FCS project into FCP X is a non sence

  • Upgrade to FCP Studio 2 nonsense...

Ok, so the engineers and IT people here at work are trying to upgrade everyone to FCP Studio 2. They have this brilliant plan for doing so. Check this out:
So they installed everything on a single edit bay and added all the correct plugins and codecs and such for our new P2 HD cameras. Now, instead of doing that all over again for each of the 10 edit systems, they are going around taking each bay's system hard drive and formatting it, then cloning the drive from the first computer.
Ok, so no big deal really since they all have to work the same and all the systems in the news dept. were bought at the same time and are all exactly the same system.
Now the fun part. My system and my bosses weren't bought with the others and use different hardware. I use an AJA IO and my boss uses an AJA Kona LH. News dept. uses Kona LS.
So, the clone thing shouldn't work, right?
Yep, it didn't work and we're both losing time editting and such.
So, I offered to take all the installation dvd's and sit here at night and upgrade both systems so that we won't wipe the drives, lose settings and valuable info, plus, it should work because the Kona settings will still be there along with my AJA IO settings. The engineers and IT guy told me that won't work. They say it will still erase the whole harddrive because it's not an upgrade, they bought the full versions of both the new Mac OSX and FCP Studio 2.
Does this make sense? It doesn't to me and I think they're just being stubborn and stupid. All of this is being done to accommodate the new P2 HD cameras. These brilliant people didn't think about that fact that it's not compatible with the Avid I have to use half the time. So, I'm not even gonna talk about that.
Anyway, does all this make sense? Am I wrong here?
    Help me please!
    Make Bruce proud!

I'm going from past (likely dim) memory: You cannot install FCS2 from a network drive or from a clone unless you have a multiseat license. the installer is specifically created not to do that, even if you have all those serial numbers. They could have purchased a network installable MacOS and a network installable FCS2 but I'm fairly certain those are only available if you actually specify the product.

Well, try to get along with them anyway. It's far better to love you IT guys than to hate them. Take one of 'em out for lunch.
A scorched-earth total reformat is often recommended around here as the only viable installation procedure. I have never used this method for MacOS or for FCP installs; I just run the updates/upgrades. Try it on your system and see what happens.
You DO WANT to make a clone of your system drive BEFORE you upgrade or update the OS or the FCP apps, though. That's just common sense.

  • If I upgrade to FCP Studio, will I still have 4.5 available?

I'm at a point where I think upgrading to FCP 5 will benefit me time-wise as I do a lot of multicamera work. I also want to dive into Motion.
I'm wondering if I perform the upgrade, will FCP 4.5 still live as an application on my Mac? I vaguely remember when I upgraded from FCP 3 to FCP 4, FCP 3 was still there and I could access and use it.
The only reason I would want to go back is that I sub to post-house that has not made the move to 5 yet. I'd like to be able to work in 4.5 when ever I do their projects.
I might not be thinking everything through- such as the QT version being different, or the interaction with 10.4?

If you do the standard upgrade, v5 will overwrite v4.5
If your current system disk is running 10.3.x, a recommended proceedure is to create a new partition, install 10.4 + FCP5 (both of which are QT7 dependent) on that partition and leave FCP4.5 and 10.3.x on the original system partition. This gives you the best of both worlds.
    cheers,

  • Where do I find the 'Universal' upgrade for FCP studio 5.0??

Can't seem to find the rumoured upgrade. Just bought a new MacBook Pro, want to install my FCPStudio 5, but need the Universal upgrade ... which I can't seem to find very easily on the Apple site.
    All ears,

Its a crossgrade, look up http://www.apple.com/universal/crossgrade/.

  • FCP Studio 2 compatibility with Cineform, Adobe Premiere Pro & Canopus

Currently my post workflow is on FCP Studio 1, and I am considering upgrading to FCP Studio 2 on my Mac G5. But since I am also considering getting a Windows PC which has Cineform, Adobe Premiere Pro and Canopus EDIUS installed in it for offline editing and handling of variable frame rate footage shot on Varicam, I am concerned if I can transfer the editing timelime from the PC (edited on Cineform, Adobe Premiere Pro or Canopus EDIUS) over to the Mac's FCP Studio 2 to do color grading on it using the new Color? Will the file formats and codecs used in Cineform (Cineform RAW), Adobe Premiere Pro (AVI), and Canopus EDIUS (Canopus HQ) be compatible or recognised in FCP Studio 2?
Is FCP Studio 2 able to handle footage shot using SI's 2K camera? Can Color be used to grade the 2K footages shot on the camera?
Also, do I need to make any hardware (e.g. my capture card, etc) upgrade for the above to work?

Export back to tape, and capture that in FCP. Things should work swimmingly.

  • New Mac Pro ordered - Question on moving FCP studio 2

    Hi All,
I've seen a few related questions, but nothing exactly like it, so here I go...
BEFORE I have a meltdown and catastrophic failure (and oh, it will happen, heh), I want to ask the best way to "move" FCP Studio 2 from my MDD G4 Dual 1.42 to the new 8-core MacPro that'll be here soon.
The reason for posting? - because I started with FCP 2, and have done nothing but UPGRADE the entire time, for years, originally buying the pieces (DVDSP/Motion/etc), then the studio upgrade from the suite, and then upgrading to studio 2.0.
Somehow I seriously doubt I can just install by inserting the FCP Studio 2 disk set and double-clicking install - this is why I have (along the way) kept every single serial number and every single disk (for YEARS! - oh how I wish I could cot it all down to the Apple store and just exchange it for the latest box set to only have ONE in the storage unit).
So. Should I start with FCP 2, or start with FCP Studio 2, or somewhere in between? Been on the forums for years - love this place.
    Thanks for the help,
    Wayne

Thanks gents. Part of the heart-ache was moving from PPC to Intel, and wondering if I had to try and install FCP 3 (not 2, oops) first - which likely wouldn't happen
I got the courage today after your posts to pack up and junk all the manuals except for FCS2 though, and just keep the serial number sheets and the disks (saved a bunch of room in the cabinet!)
I'll consider it answered - and cross my fingers while I'm lighting the candle and getting out the chicken foot
    Thanks again!

  • FCP Studio 3 install on Power Mac G5

Anyone has tried to install the new FCP Studio 3 on a Power Mac G5 Quad computer? I have a PowerMac G5 Quad with FCP Studio 2 and want to find out wether I can upgrade to FCP Studio 3 or not?
    Thanks,
    r

Yes a shame about the G5 I had one until it went POP at the begining of the year.
Remember that any project created in FCP7 will not open in FCP6.
and once a FCP6 project is updated and saved in FCP7 it won't go back- so create a duplicate project.
have been playing with FCS3 for a couple of days now it's very good.

  • Upgrade to 5.1 from FCP Studio 5

    Hi everyone,
Just looking for some advice... I currently have FCP Studio 5 running on G5.
Does anyone know if there is a patch update for FCP5 to 5.1? I can't seem to find it in the Downloads page. Or do I have to pay for the upgrade?
Also, would FCP 5 work on the Macbook Pro with Rosetta?
    Thanks for your help

There is a fee to upgrade from 5.0.x to 5.1.x You will not find it on the downloads as it is a completely redone operating code and comes on many, many disks.
Some have reported FCP5.0.x running on intel macs under Rosetta. Your mileage may vary.

  • Free upgrade from FCP Studio (5) to FCPX?

I have plunked down a couple of euros a few years ago to get Final Cut Pro Studio (v5.1).
Is there a way I can "convert" or "trade in" my FCP Studio for FCPX?

No. FCP X is a completely new application, sold only through the Mac App Store. There is no upgrade from old versions. Anyway, in the old days even an upgrade would cost at least as much as the whole cost of FCP X...

  • Universal crossgrade update from FCP HD to FCP Studio on Mac Book Pro

    Hi all,
Just ordered my universal upgrade for my MBP from Apple to go from FCP-HD to FCP Studio. My MBP has FCPHD installed on it. I installed it without being aware that it was not compatable with the intel chip.
Just wondering if there are any problems associated with simpy installing the complete crossgrade FCP Studio without first uninstalling FCPHD.
Or is it suggested to completely uninstall FCPHD before installing the new universal version of FCP studio.
The answer may ship with the software but I was wondering if I should start going through the uninstall process as I hear it is a bit involved.
    Thanks for any help.

When I attempt to install the 5.1 cross-grade on a newly formatted hard drive, that is also set as the boot drive with the latest version of OSX on my dual G5, the 5.1 install goes through the entire process up until I get to the part where it begins actually installing the actual software applications. Then it fails--quits- completely quits installing. And yes, both of my optical disk drives are working. I have another disk drive that contains the last version of Final Cut Studio and when I first tried to install the cross-grade on that drive it wont even get past the screen that says that the software is checking to see if it can be installed on the drive. I was told by someone at Apple Pro Applications support that if 5.1 would not install on a new formatted hard drive that contained nothing but the latest version of OSX that I had bad install disks. It's a matter of getting them replaced. I KEEP GETTING THE RUN AROUND!!! It's like no one at Apple cares. I wait over two hours to get help, but I really am not getting help. When I call Panasonic for help with my AJ-HD27H VariCam Camcorders, or my a Aj-HD1200 decks, they bend over backwards to help me. Or when I have a problem with a Canopus Editing System help is easy and reliable.
Is there anyone who knows from whom I can go for an easy replacement of these instal disks?????

  • Can I upgrade a FCP4 purchased in UK to FCP Studio 5.1 here in the USA

I've noticed in the fine print of Apple's FCP Studio 5.1 upgrade form that they say the item being upgraded must have been purchased in USA or Canada. This is from the USA web site.
    http://www.apple.com/universal/crossgrade/
I live in USA. So if I purchase a UK version of FCP4 (via ebay), will I be able to upgrade it to FCP Studio here in the US? Or, will I be forced to somehow upgrade it via the UK Apple site and sending the original discs back to the UK?
Anyone try this and knows for sure how it works?

    Thanks Jerry,
I took your advise and called Apple (don't know why I didn't think of that!). They switched me around about 5 time to different departments and finally handed me over to the FC Crossgrade folks (1-888-840-8433) who basically told me "no". They suggested I call the UK Apple FC Crossgrade folks and see exactly how I'd upgrade this from them while living in the USA.
Thanks for your reply and help.
