Upgrading to Garageband '09

Quick question. Im thinking about upgrading to the new ilife 09 mainly for garageband. I was wondering if i will have a problem importing projects ive been working on in garageband4.1 to garageband 09. i just have a concern as far as any effects i have put on real instruments and how they transfer into this new layout in the track editors and so on. Thanks

Older projects will open fine. 09 has yet to ship.

Can I upgrade to GarageBand 2011 on an iMac OX 10.5.8? Or can I upgrade to iLife 2011?
I have the space and 2 Gigs of RAM. Thanks.

Thank you, noondaywitch. That's what I thought. May I bother you with one more question, please?
Do I need to upgrade to the boxed set (that includes the iLife array, including GargageBand) or can I just upgrade to Snow Leopard and purchase iLife separately? I have a feeling I need the entire boxed set ... but thought I'd ask.

  • Ipad sofware upgrade for garageband

Is there due to be a software upgrade on garageband for ipad that would add  musical notation as view and edit option?

I can't think why your store language would have changed, unless your system preference is German I suppose.
Anyway, scroll down to the bottom right hand corner of the store screen and click on the flag to change the language.

The iPod backup that iTunes makes does not include synced media like apps and music. If that media is not in the iTunes library it will be deleted from the iPod and not restored to the iPod.

  • - Need Upgrade? - GarageBand file on iPad2 to Macbook

Would love to get some feedback here....  I know how to transfer GarageBand files from my iPad2 to Mac, but when I try to open the file up on my Macbook it says I need to upgrade to the latest version.  The problem is that I have checked for upgrades (which I am up to date) and I have GarageBand '11 and as far as I know, that is up to date since there are no updates for the Mac in general (I just checked).  Please advise!
    Thanks!

    Apologize for the redundant comments....

  • Do i have to pay for the upgrade on garageband when it was pre-installed?

Everytime i open garageband it tells me there is an upgrade available. My question is do i have to pay for upgrade because it was pre-installed in my macbook air. The little rectangle thingy you click to purchase where it says the price or free, just says upgrade but off to the side of the page in the information box its price says $14.99. so im confused on whether or not the upgrade is free. The pre-installed is GarageBand '11 version 6.0.3 the upgrade is to GarageBand '11 6.0.5

New Macs come with iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand for free. In your case, the price that appears on the side of the page is only the price of the application for Macs that didn't come with GarageBand '11 or for users that want to upgrade from an older GarageBand version, like '08 or '09. You have GarageBand '11, so press the Upgrade button without worrying about paying for the application, and you will get the most recent GarageBand for free

  • Upgrade to Garageband 08??

I just ordered ilife 08 just for the Garage band update. I mainly use garage band as a sketch pad and than move my work to LE or Ableton. I also frequently ReWire GB with Reason.
It seems like people are having problems with the upgrade than it's worth espeacially with regards to using ReWire; and is it true the work saved in GB 08 cannot be opened in LE??
Thanks in advance for your responses!

Definitly agreed that Logic needs to be upgraded! I read recently that there is a new version in the wings but who knows when it's going to be released! So just from our discussion and the little research I've done I think I'm going to cancel my order. The current compatibility issues people are having with ReWire and also not being able to open GB files in LE is a big deal.

  • Upgrading from GarageBand - using external synth

I've been a user of GarageBand for some time. I recently bought a synth (a Korg MicroKorg XL) and was hoping to use it with GarageBand, having GarageBand play the synths sounds via midi. I've since discovered this isn't possible as GarageBand doesn't do midi-out. So I've been browsing the Logic Express manual and notice that Logic Express does do midi-out.
So I'm envisaging the following setup. Grateful for any advice or pointers - or whether or not this will indeed work:
Synth connected to MacBook Pro via USB (midi)
Synth audio-out connected to Mac audio-in port
Use Logic Express to add effects to the synth track
Mac audio-out port connected to amp/speakers
(all mixing done on the Mac in Logic Express)
As the synth will be the only external audio device I presume I won't need an audio interface?
    Cheers in advance.

    Hi,
I might have to try a powered USB hub as the keyboard is completely USB powered (ie no socket for a mains adaptor).
Yesterday I asked at the local Apple store who had no idea if this would work - "It'd be great if you could" was the response I got but they did say that I could buy the camera connection kit and take it back (within 14 days) if this idea did not work.
You'd think that by including MIDI support into iPad Garageband that Apple might give some clue as to what keyboards this might work with.

  • Upgrade of garageband

I'm trying to update from version 3 of garageband to version 6 ('11). When I look in the App store, it shows "installed". I haven't installed the new version. Is there any way around this as I don't really want to buy all of ilife '11.

I trashed the application (just the actual program and not the support files). Once I did this, the App Store reverted to saying that it was available for purchase. Downloaded, installed and started up OK. Plus all my files are still intact.
    Thanks for your help.

  • How do I update GarageBand after upgrading to Yosemite 10.10.1

I have GarageBand on my MacBook Pro but have recently upgraded to Yosemite OS X 10.10.2. I wanted to use GarageBand but rec'd a message that there is a newer version. I didn't think I should have to pay for an upgrade in the App Store. How do I update my version of GarageBand?

Which version of GarageBand do you currently have?
Updates are free (when the first number of the version number stays the same), but upgrades to a major new release require a purchase (when the first part of the version number changes).  So the upgrade from GarageBand '11, version 6.0.5 to GarageBand 10.0.3 is a major upgrade, that requires a purchase.
If you decide to upgrade, do not replace your current GarageBand version, if you are currently running GarageBand 6.0.5. Keep both versions. The new GarageBand is very different from version 6.0.5 - it is more like Logic than GarageBand. It comes with nice new features like smart drummers, but but older audio units are no longer support. If you decide to upgrade your system, keep your current GarageBand as well. Both can be used in parallel and you will need the sounds and loops from the previous version to play your older projects. This forum is full of desperate questions about how to get the previous version back, because instruments are missing or podcasts no longer supported.

  • GarageBand, iMovie and iPhoto won't upgrade

    Hello,
Since a while ago, I've been receiving every day and every time a notification saying a new upgrade for GarageBand, iMovie and iPhoto is available.
For some reason, whenever I go to the app store and try to upgrade all, I get a message saying: "To upgrade these apps, connect to the account you used to buy them".
I don't have any other accounts meaning that the only one I have should work. There is another user on my computer and he also has a different Apple ID which we tried to use but nothing happens either.
So, is there anything we can do to either upgrade those apps or to stop getting the upgrade message?
    Thanks.

I'm not sure if upgrading to Lion could be the issue, it didn't came preinstalled so when it was released, I bought it and upgraded.
Do you mean Lion or Mt. Lion? Did you make a clean install?  If you upgraded from Snowleopard, you probably bought your Mac before the AppStore was released, and then you should upgrade iLife using Software Update from the -menu and not from the AppStore. Have you moved your iLife apps to from their original location to a subfolder of Applications? Then move them back.
But if you bought your Mac with Lion preinstalled, try to log out of the AppStore and then click the "Updates" tab and sign back in. Does that show the updates?

  • Unable to purchase Garageband upgrade

I'm trying to upgrade my Garageband on my iMac but I think my nephew's iTunes account might be linked to it. As I type in my new account information to buy the upgrade, I get the following message:
Unable to Purchase - This item is for an app that was purchased by a different Apple ID. To buy this item with this Apple ID, you must first purchase the app.
I would like to know what steps do I have to take in order to change the account connected to my Garageband.
    Thanks in advance,
    AB

    Andrea,
what is your garageBand version? And which upgrade are you trying to buy?
If you are trying to buy the in-app purchase for GarageBand 10.0, and GarageBAnd has been installed with the wrong AppleID, delete the app from the Applications folder and sign into the AppStore (from the "Store" menu: Sign in) with your regular AppleID.
Then buy GarageBand again for free, this time using your account.
If you are asking about a different upgrade, post back.

  • GarageBand: missing software instruments & loops won't download

    Hi,
Recently I've bought a 15' MacBook Pro with OS X version 10.8.3 installed on it(and I've updated it to version 10.8.4) and tried to download [missing software
instruments and loops] for GarageBand, but that update for the additional GarageBand contents couldn't be found on App Store's update page even after trying
several times. Does anybody have a solution or similar experience? Answers would be greatly appreciated!

I recently had the same problem when I upgraded to Garageband '11.  There are many posts and answers about this issue on the forum, but the one that worked for me was also the simplest solution.  When you get to the Updates window on the App Store and it says it doesn't find any updates, hit ⌘-R to reload.  When I did that, the additional instruments and loops download appeared in the Updates window and I was able to download them.
If that doesn't work for you, search this forum.  There are many more possible solutions.  Good luck!
