Upgrading to iTunes v6 - Advice

Sometimes I get prompted by iTunes to upgrade to v6 and from previous experience (v4.8 to v5)I think I'm right in saying that simply clicking on "OK" from the friendly dialogue box the install occurred over the top of my existing v4.8. Reading the experiences of folks on this forum, it seems the best way is to d/l v6 to your local drive and then install probably first disabling your Norton and Spy protection s/w. My query, as a bit of a duffer, is if I attempt to install v6 from a saved d/l, will this install over v5 or will I end up with 2 versions of iTunes on my pc?

you're no duffer, Nigel. good question.
if things go standardly, the previous version of itunes (and the previous version of quicktime) get uninstalled as part of the upgrade process.

Yesterday I have upgraded my itune and icloud on my PC, now I notice my photo stream in my PC doesn't get latest picture I took from my iphone 4s (IOS 7.0.4). Whenever I open icloud photo, my PC prompts me the message below. Please advice what to do?

    Hello
Try restoring the device and setting up as new.
If it is still shows an iCloud activation lock, then it's on an iCloud account
The wrong device was removed from an iCloud account.
Check any other Apple IDs you might have at
                 iCloud.com
Get signed into them and remove that device.
I wish this was the first time I seen this.

  • I can't sync my iPod after upgrading to iTunes 7 - Help!

I'm running an Intel 20" iMac with all of the latest software updates applied.
My iPod is a 30GB iPod Photo (4G) running software version 1.2.1.
I upgraded to iTunes 7 last night. Since then, I can't sync my iPod. Here's what happened/happens...
I installed iTunes 7. On first run (iPod disconnected) it checked for album art and ran through my library to determine the zero gap playback info. That all happened successfully.
When I connect my iPod (which is set to auto update), it recognizes it, and show the status page (also shows up in "devices" in left pane) and immediately a small window pops up with the text "Updating library on 'Evan's iPod'". The progress bar gets to somewhere between 30-70% and then hangs.
I left it running all night and it never finished. My only option was to Force Quit iTunes. Once I did, my iPod was still fine, and had all my music on it, just nothing new.
I've tried rebooting my computer and iPod, to no avail.
I would try reformatting my iPod, except that you can now (seemingly) only do that through iTunes (as opposed to a separate updater as in the past). Since iTunes locks up as soon as my iPod is connected, that doesn't help me much...
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Evan

Ok... I just tried connecting my iPod directly to a USB port on the computer rather than via the USB hub I was using and everything is fine. Odd, but I'm happy now.
    Thanks,

  • Ipod died after upgrading to itunes 7 and ipod 1.2

So i upgraded my itunes to the new version and then i upgraded my ipod to 1.2. Then after restarting the computer i plugged the ipod in and let it update. Itunes freezes up and then won't recognize my ipod so i couldn't safely eject it. I unplug my ipod manually which gives me the exclamation sign then it just died. I couldn't turn it on at all. The screen is just dead and the hold button is not on. Anyone have any ideas?

I have the same problem but this only happens on my computer. It works fine during the most of it but when i use another program that makes a sound- weather it be a message noise or a game etc. it starts to skip and wont stop untill i stop the iTunes and start song again. This didnt happen with the previous version of iTunes.
    Any advice??

  • Upgraded to iTunes 9.2 and iPhone 4 -- all of my third-party apps missing

I'm not exactly sure where the issue came from, but I somehow lost all of my apps as I upgraded to iTunes 9.2 and the iPhone 4 today. But I figured out what happened and *I have the solution*, which I'd like to share...
This occurred on June 24, 2010 (iPhone 4 launch day). The steps I took to upgrade to iTunes 9.2 and iPhone 4 were as such:
    1) I did a full sync and backup of my iPhone 3GS with iTunes 9.1.
    2) I upgraded iTunes 9.1.x.xx to iTunes 9.2.0.61 (the first version compatible with iPhone 4).
    3) I activated my new iPhone 4 and set it up based on my 3GS's back up data.
    4) When it was done setting up the iPhone 4, I noticed that all of the native apps and their app data were intact, but I was missing all of my third-party app store apps. Note that all the apps on my 3GS were obviously still intact.
    5) I noticed that I had zero apps in the iTunes library (at the top left under "Library"). Thus, with my 3GS plugged in, I right clicked on the iPhone in iTunes under "Devices" and selected "Transfer Purchases". This transferred all of the apps on my 3GS to the iTunes library.
    6) I plugged in my iPhone 4, and noticed that on the "Apps" tab under "Devices / iPhone name", the "Sync Apps" box was unchecked. So I checked it, and it gives you a scary message saying that all of the apps in the iTunes Library (which I had just populated in step 5) will overwrite the app data on your iPhone. I didn't have any app data on my iPhone 4, so I clicked "OK". All of the apps transferred from the iTunes Library to my iPhone 4 with all of the app data (game saves, etc) intact.
So that's my solution. I'm sure this must be happening to other people. My main piece of advice is: after upgrading to iTunes 9.2 and syncing your old phone for the last time, make sure you have apps in your App Library and "Sync Apps" is checked. If not, follow the steps above.
This same issue also happened to my friend, but he doesn't have his old iPhone 3GS to restore the app data from. If anyone has any suggestions as to how he can save his app data, please let me know. Thanks.
    Craig

Well this won't work for me...
I had all of my apps and music stored in iTunes, I updated to the newest 9.2 iTunes and did a 4.0 update to my iPhone 3G all the while not noticing that EVERYTHING IN iTUNES was GONE. When I got done updating my iPhone it was late so i went to bed... Next day came back to sync everything and thats when I saw it was all gone...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
did what the link said and NOW I have all my 6K+ MUSIC back but not ONE APP. The App's are completely gone from when you nav. to the location the link says... There isn't a mobile sync folder there...
NOT SURE WHAT TO DO NEXT... Very Frustrated and MAD. I don't want to redownload all my apps manually. TO many to do it that way.

Have upgraded to itunes 11.0.1.12. Start itunes and it is closed with the message itunes closed to help protect computer data execution prevention has closed itunes. operating system is ms vista 32 bit. I have followed the procedures that I can find on the itune support site.

You're welcome. Glad you got things sorted out.
(No problem about not spotting the solutions ... the most common causes of this sort of message changes over time, so it's not straightforward to be able to tell when a given piece of advice still applies to the symptoms. Definitely worth posting to try to get a current heads-up on the likely contemporary causes of a particular error message.)

  • IPhone 3GS stopped working since upgrading to itunes 10.5

since upgrading my itunes i get these messages saying that
A: charging is not supported with this acessory
B: this acessory is not optimised for this acessory (when trying to use ipod or anything else)
ive read "how to fix this" but people think that its something wrong with the chords and dirty products.
that is not my case. ive tried three different apple chargers in all ports and sockets in the house. none of them are dirty, there are no pins out of place, and no water has gotten near anything. this is very annoying and i cant use my phone at all. moreover my warranty is up but apple did this to my phone with all their stupid updates. you think a company of tech people would know how to properly make software but no.
    so can anybody help?
apple?are you going to do something? or just tell people its their fault like usual?
also now my phone is dead and wont charge so i cant really do much right now.

    Hi,
just made a discovery i wanted to share here with everyone who have this problem with their 3GS iPhone.
Few days ago i'v tried to upgrade my iPhone to a version 5.0, sync it with my comp through iTunes.
It sucked all my datas in, to back it up, but errorr occurred when the phone was preparing for recovery mode.
Mobile died, display went black and no iTunes or computer (even other computer) no longer recognised my phone when plugged in. Like if the phone didn't exist.
I was searching for answers for hours and tried everything people suggested. Bought new charger. Left mobile charging all day. No sign, light, sound... nothing.
So i took it to an Apple store.
The assistant took the phone and left, to check it. After 5 minutes brought the same dead iphone back and said mobile is no longer under warranty and to repair it will cost me over 120£ or so. And that there is nothing he can do, but all my data are safe if i have back up on iTunes.(which i had).
Said he even tried TO CHARGE THE PHONE BY PLUGGING IT TO A HIGHER VOLTAGE!
But no help. Well that's what he thought!!
After about a 30 min or so....sitting in the coffee shop, i throw the dead phone on the table, and without any thought just pressed two buttons, as i did thousand times before. The home and power button on the top, held them maybe 5 seconds... and suddenly the phone woken up!!!!! Empty battery sign appeared on a screen, after few seconds gone again.
I repeated same proccess another 2 times, yes iphone was back!!!
At home i plugged it first into a socket to charge, pressed the buttons, battery appeared and after 10 min sign on a display asked to connected mobile to iTunes.
I did and, then just followed the instrutions appearing on iTunes. After 20-30minutes i had all my datas- photos, videos, calendar, notes, messages and contacts back in my iPhone, and even with some more extra features and improvements.
    Love my phone again.
So my advice is, when nothing helps,
    1. TAKE YR PHONE TO AN APPLE STORE, cause only they understand really what they can and cannot do safely!
    AND IF THEY TRY :
    2. TO CHARGE THE PHONE BY PLUGGING IT TO A HIGHER VOLTAGE! It my wake yr phone up.
    Be patient and carefull.!
    Good luck!!!

  • Downloaded upgrade to itunes

Urgent advice please! I've just downloaded the upgrade for itunes and after the restart i'm getting the message - Itunes cannot run because some of the required files are missing. Please re-install.
If i do re-install will i lose you songs and playlists? This is an urgent request because I have the playlist for a 4 year olds birthday party this afternoon!

    Yes, I went from v4.9 to v6.
My iPod synced without doing anything to it.
[Edit: you can see if you still have an iTunesSetup.exe on your PC. Save it off somewhere if you think you'll wnat to go back to v4.9]

Hello, I was trying to upgrade my iTunes for windows 7 PC, but because of invalid signature error I removed iTunes as well as all apple related applications. While reinstalling it , When I click link to install iTunes it immediately says '' thank you for downloading iTunes'' but I don't find it in my system.
I have tried all suggested option to solve it but all in vain. Please help me to get rid of this problem

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • What does it mean when upgrading to iTunes Plus?

    Ok ~
So was about to upgrade to iTunes Plus, and when I click it I find this:
    106 Total Songs
    14 Songs
    5 Albums
And then I'm given a price. I'm not sure what the break down is, or what 106, 14 are in comparison to one another. And I thought I had purchased more than 5 full albums, but whatever there. Now I have about 300 total songs listed in music I have purchased, so why only 106? I thought that more than 80% was in Plus as of last October? Could it be that a majority of my songs are not Plus yet?
Hopefully someone can make heads and tails out of what this means.
    Thanks,
    Chaz

In my experience...not everything has been upgraded to iTunes Plus...yet. I downloaded a huge number of upgrades a few weeks ago and now it seems like every three or four days when I connect to the iTunes store I'm alerted about more iTunes Plus upgrades available.
My advice...after you accept and install this upgrade, sort your library by "kind" to see how many more "protected aac" tracks you still have listed.
On Edit: iTunes Plus tracks will show up in your library as "purchased aac".

  • Can't upgrade to iTunes version 9.1.1

I have a 7 year old PC. My iTunes files are all loaded onto my external hard drive. When attempting to download the latest version of iTunes 9.1.1, I receive the following error message"
"Errors occurred while installing the updates. If the problem persists, choose Tools> download only and try installing manually." I tried installing manually and I still am getting pop ups indicating "Do you want to dowload the latest upgrade of iTunes version 9.1.1?" This leads me to think that there might be something wrong on my end. Any advice?

Are you doing this through iTunes or the Apple Software Updater?
If so, try going to the itunes download page and SAVE the setup file to your desktop.
After it has completely downloaded, double-click on iTunes Setup.exe to run it....make sure itunes is not running, first.

  • Upgraded to iTunes 11.0.3 and now cannot access music.

I upgraded ti iTunes 11.0.31 on my iMac [OS 10.7.5] and now I am unable to access my itunes library. NOT HAPPY. I have over the years accumulated over 1000 albums that I now seem to have lost. Has anyone got an answer? Clearly Apple doesn't give a whatever.

Thank you very much for your reply. I did find 2 previous iTune libraries but they seem to be empty.
Your advice on back up is gratefully noted ... I always assumed Time Machine would do the job.
I guess like many people I've spoken to it's time to move away from Apple ...a declinig market may be the only thing which will make them realise they need to be more responsive to and respectaful of  the millions of individuals who have been their loyal customers for many years.
My business has started moving to Windows and we have been surprised how good it is and products like Office 360 are fabulous in the business environment. We have heaps of iMacs ready for the scrap heap!
I am now looking for an alternative to iTunes. Not an easy feat but clearly there is a huge market opportunity out there for someone to produce a decent product. Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

  • Ipod not connecting after upgrade to itunes 8

After upgrading to itunes 8 my ipod (nano) will no longer connect to my computer and is not recognised by itunes. When I connect the ipod I get the windows 'install new hardware wizard' running but however I try to work through this I get nowhere. Looking at Device Manager in Windows says there are no drivers for the ipod - it has a little exclamation mark next to it.
My wifes brand new ipod will also not connect and its straight out of the box.
Not at all sure what to do next. The support pages don't seem to cover getting the install new hardware wizard. Any help or advice please!.

    Ben888
Having reported this to my dealer, and them agreeing to supply a new lead to try, I had one final attempt at resetting the iPod.
Having restored, reset and updated the iPod half a dozen times before without success, a reset as described here:
    http://www.apple.com/uk/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/
worked and it is now merrily playing again in the car with the original lead.
It would seem that Apple have developed another piece of spectacularly temperamental equipment........and people slate Microsoft!
Hope it works for you as well!

  • Upgrading to itunes 8 for a new ipod

Im hoping someone can help me with an issue i'm having upgrading my itunes...I got a new ipod nano and I cant use it without upgrading but when I try to download the new itunes it says it is up to date and it doesn't change my itunes. I've gone to the itunes website itself and tried downloading it from there but once it loads nothing happens and itunes remains the same. I'm not sure if my computer just isn't able to be upgraded or if there is something else going on. I'm not too knowledgeable about computers either so im not too sure wat system im running on. im thinking its 9.2.x. can someone give me any advice?

As I stated you need Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later to run the latest version of iTunes. It sounds like iTunes knows there is a new version, but Software Update knows there is no later version available for Mac OS X 10.3.9.
The current version of Mac OS X is 10.5.5. You state you have an iMac but don't state which one. There have been several models over the years. In order to install the latest iTunes you need to upgrade you iMac to a later version of Mac OS X, which you need to purchase.

  • Just Upgraded to iTunes 10 and Noticed WORSE SOUND QUALITY!! Please Help!

I have been using iTunes as my preferred media player ever since I can remember. I have never noticed a decline in sound quality. I recently upgraded to iTunes 10 and for the very first time found the sound to be simply inferior.
Initially I thought it was in my imagination, then i started testing to see if the speakers were at fault and they were not. I ignored it, but it kept on bugging me.. Eventually i loaded up old Windows Media Player and played THE SAME FILE and it sounded WAY BETTER!!
I tried fiddling with the sound enhancer and the sound check but it just isnt great.. I played songs off iTunes 9 on my sister's computer and the sound quality is higher..
Am I the only one having this problem? I have upgraded iTunes many times and this is the first time I'm experiencing this lack in audio playback quality.. I would hate to back up my library and re-install iTunes 9... Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I do have my grumbles with iTunes, the biggest being the installer.
It's not good at removing problems from previous versions and can bring up new problems on newer versions too, they just get carried across or are made worse. Basically they should have an option to do a clean install, (remove all trace of iTunes on the computer, not including the library, just runtime files.) I think you'll find it can mess up registry keys on new installs.
Make sure you backup your iTunes library first.
So you're probably better off finding a way to COMPLETELY remove the iTunes runtime files, and re-installing it again and see what happens.
