I recently upgraded my third gen iPad using the wireless option as I no longer have a PC. Upon downloading and installing the software, it is now asking me to connect it to iTunes. Is there a way around it? I was under the impression that you only need to so that during major updates, ie. ios 6 to ios 7. Am I out of luck?

The update didn't go well and your iPad is in restore mode. You'll need to connect it to a PC/Mac (any computer really) and use iTunes to restore it. You will lose anything on there that wasn't backed up.
In theory, you can do any or all updates 'over the air' (wirelessly) but I'm old fashioned and prefer to do it via iTunes, if for no other reason than having a full backup handy.
In your case, see if you can borrow a computer from a friend and use that to restore your ipad.

I have IPad2 and I am facing the Facetime issue due to certificate expiry on Apr 16 as reported by Apple.
I dont want to upgrade to latest IOS because I think it would slow down the performance and ruin a good working IPad just to resolve this issue.

I know about the instructions to wipe my iPad and restore it. Just REALLY wanted to avoid doing it.
What I don't understand is WHY the passcode function was enabled when I NEVER set a passcode. I had passcode functionality TURNED OFF on both our iPads. When I set the iOS update to run (then went to bed) it should have SKIPPED setting a passcode during the update... since I never typed one in.
Like I said, using 0000 opened my kid's iPad after the iOS update. (thankfully!) But then I tried it on mine it got locked out.
Can't figure why the iOS update turned it on and has now set some random password that I could never know.

The iPhone 3G will not run anything higher than 4.2.1. It's been discontinued for over 3 years.

I think you're using a Lion developer version. Open  > About this Mac > More Info, and copy Software here. Did you purchase Lion in the App Store?

I have taken it out of the case - I figured it would obstruct the sensor (also have no screen protector).
Only thing I haven't tried from the Basic troubleshooting steps you mentioned was to "restore as new".
That I did try it tonight (succesffully restored), BUT my problem still exists.
You mentioned to go in the MAC store > Would they replace it (for free) if they reach the conclusion it's some sort of manufacturer faulty wiring even if it's a 3Gs (as an old model)?
Would they still if phone had water damage (this I'm just curious - the phone didn't)?

ONLY the carrier to which it is locked can legally/legitimately unlock an iphone.
Your "brother from New Dehli" hacked the iphone.

Since upgrading my 4s iPhone to the latest iOS , I now can not see many wi-fi locations beyond my home network. Friends can find and connect to many wifi networks yet my iPhone does not even see them. I can not recall prior to the upgrade whether in the settings whether turning on the wifi was shown as wifi or WLAN however the on/off is now WLAN. Not sure what the difference is. Airplay used to be just playing a video and hitting the drop down box to select my apple TV, then I allowed the latest IOS version on my iPhone and iPads...now the drop down box at the video (you tube, etc) is gone and I have to swipe UP on screen to select the apple tv option and mirroring....except 9 out of 10 times it auto-transfers back to the iPad/iphone setting and fails to work. On youtube, from my iPhone I often get "can't play video" or error message I NEVER got before updating to the latest IOS.
This is really a buggy platform now that impacts MULTIPLE apple products!

Error 3194, AKA "This device is not eligible.. occurs for several reasons:
1. Update to the latest iTunes - currently 10.4.1.
2. Disable ALL security apps (firewall, antivirus/spyware) running on your computer. Additional measures may be needed.
3. You may need to edit the Hosts file on your computer to remove references to gs.apple.com if you EVER used hacking techniqus or apps such as tinyumbrella.
4. Don't try to downgrade the iOS.
5. If the phone was EVER successfully hacked in the past (jailbreak, downgrade, unauthourized unlock) there may be nothing you can do now to fix this.

How are you trying to update (directly on your phone or via your computer's iTunes, if a computer then is it a Mac or a PC), and what is the exact error message ?

Iphone 4 - signal issues after upgrading to latest ios 6

I upgraded to ios 6, as suggested by itunes on my iPhone 4 and that's last day i was able to make a peaceful call.
My signal just goes for a toss once i make a call. I see the 3g Symbol vanishing and the other person is not able to hear me but i am able to hear them.
Once i disconnect the call, the signal changes to E and then goes to 3G. Tried the below solutions as suggested in forums, but no luck
Please help..I am missing my iphone terribly.

HT201210 Is there a fix for Proximity sensor being messed up after upgrading to latest iOS 6.1.3?

After upgrading to 6.1.3 the Proximity Sensor will not turn my phone's screen black so that other "buttons" are not pressed by my ear of by my face accidentally.
It worked just fine before the update.
And if there isn't a fix is it possible for me to downgrade to iOS 6.0, or 6.0.1 or .6.1?
