You might better ask this in the BootCamp forum. When I upgraded all three Macs to Leopard I lost nothing My G5 uses VMWare; my MBPs use BootCamp.

    Hi Brad,
there were some problems with Parallels and Leopard when Leopard came out last year.
But if you have updated Parallels to the latest version (5584) you shouldn't encounter any problems.
But with any major upgrade of OSX, it is advisable to make a backup of your current OSX Tiger to an externl harddisk, for example, by using something like SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner.
At least, that's what I would do / have done.

  • I want to upgrade iOS from 5 to 6, but when I go to synch everything in preparation, it tells me I will lose all my stuff on the iPhone and iPad which is unique.  How can I backup or do a "real synch" (both sides have same data) and then upgrade?

You should really read the manual.
"How do you restore from backup? "
Restore.  When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them.  What program did you use to import them?  Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all.  You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

  • If i upgrade  Snow Leopard  to lion, all information will be removed? from hard disk ?, if i upgrade  Snow Leopard  to lion, all informatio will be removed from hard disk ?

if i upgrade  Snow Leopard  to lion, all information will be removed? from hard disk ?, if i upgrade  Snow Leopard  to lion, all informatio will be removed from hard disk ?

John Hammer said it best -- backup first and always. That's why Time Machine and periodic clones of your boot drive to an external disk are so valuable.
That said – the Lion upgrade will retain all user data, files, settings, mail, and preferences. Mind you that a few settings and their location have changed.
Before you actually use Lion, may I recommend spending the first evening looking at every single preference panel in System Preferences.  Many of the user interface choices can be reverted back to mimic Snow Leopard if you choose.
Relax and enjoy Lion – it is amazing.  Please holler if we can help further.

  • When i upgrade to leopard will it keep ilife

when i upgrade to leopard will i have to reinstall ilife or will it go straight from tiger to leopard?

If you UPGRADE, you keep it all. If you clean install, by ay of Disk Utility on Leopard's install screen, you will lose iLife. Simply reinstall iLife and you are ok (if you own the iLife DVD) or if you want to use your recovery DVD, simply INSTALL BUNDLED SOFTWARE and you'll be fine.
It works - I did it today....for ALL my Mac's.

  • My iCloud address on the iPad needs to be changed. If I press "delete account" it tells me I will lose all the content including pictures. How can I change it? I see other people have had the same problem

I have had to change my e mail address but I cannot work out how to amend it on my iCloud account. If I press "delete account" the box appears telling me that I will lose all content including photos if I continue. The box asking for a password keeps appearing but I just press cancel and continue.
I have not attempted to upgrade to iOS 7 until this problem is sorted. Can anyone help please?

If you mean that you created a new icloud account using a new email address as the primary address, then when changing to that account on a device, all data maintained by the old account will be deleted.  I was not aware that photos are included.  But as for photos, ALWAYS sync them to a computer for archiving, never rely on icloud as your only backup.
If you want to keep the contacts, etc. data from the old account, then go to Settings>icloud and turn off the services, one at a time.  When doing so, you are given the choice to keep the data local or delete from the device.  Later, when doing Delete Account and logging into the new account, your data will sync up to it.
If, on the other hand, your changed email address is just an alias in the existig icloud account, then there's no reason to delete the account as the alias is just another link to the same account.

  • Getting an error message (-5000) while trying to backup my iphone4 that says i will lose all content if i continue

getting an error message while trying to backup my IPhone 4 that says i will lose all content if i continue. error message is (-5000). what does this mean and how do i fix the problem?

Well, when you click on "update" and it goes partway through and then says it can't continue that does look somewhat error-like to me. :-).  I did do a synch when I first plugged  the iPad into my desktop, but had to upgrade iTunes and reboot before upgrading the iPad OS, so everything should be backed up.  I hope!  I don't know how to check on whether things like my appointments or files that I have created get saved in a synch.  Selecting each of my pictures and emailing them to myself is an option, I guess.
I am new to the apple world and the thought of losing six month's worth of stuff is intimidating.  If only I knew which things would get lost, I'd be able to work with it.
    Thanks!

  • If I upgrade to Leopard, will it resolve the problems with my iMac?

I have one of the first intel-based iMacs that came out. I bought it in January of 2006. Is it having problems because there may be bugs in it?...since it is one of the first intel-based iMacs. Some problems that I have are: Safari freezes like crazy, iTunes freezes occasionally, Mail will sometimes shut down for no reason, iPhoto freezes, and sometimes the overall performance of the computer is slower than what it should be. I have plenty of hard drive space available, so I don't think that's the issue.
If I upgrade to Leopard will this resolve these problems? Or will it just slow my computer down even more? If that won't solve the problem, what else can I do to speed my computer up, and stop things from freezing?

Upgrading to Leopard in itself will not fix your system problems. However the act of doing a clean or Archive install of the system whether it be 10.4 or 10.5 could very well resolve your issues. So it's not necessarily the fact that you are upgrading rather doing a clean install. My recommendation would be to try and figure out your issues first then decide whether you want to upgrade or not.
How fast is your processor and how much RAM do you have? Have you installed all of Apple's software updates? A good starting point is to open up Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility select the hard drive on the left(the Mac OS X Volume) and click Repair Disk Permissions then Verify Disk. Repairing the Permissions is something that should be done often as regular maintenance and Verifying the Disk checks the volume directory for errors. If it finds any problems you will need to boot up the the install disk and run Disk Utility from there in order to Repair it. Afterwards Go to the Apple Menu/System Preferences/Startup Disk and make sure that the Mac OS X volume is selected as the startup system.

I just uninstalled it and am waiting for it to reinstall. I sincerely hope that I have not lost everything that I worked on so hard. Now that mobile me is gone, I have not been able to go between devices to transfer things. I was merely trying to take a document I had worked on and open it in pages, but it said my version was too old. When I updated, it wouldn't load. Now I cannot do anything. I hope that the reinstall fixes it without losing everything. Please advise!!! Yes, I am in panic mode.

  • I did a backup on my iPod touch and it said it worked...but now it won't let me access anything and says "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode.  You must restore this IPod before it can be used."  I will lose all my videos and pics if I do that

I did a backup on my iPod touch last night and it said it worked...I wanted to make sure my 1100 pictures and videos, mostly of my son, were safe since we rarely use the iPod touch anymore since we bought an iPad...I can't find them or I have no idea how to access them...I do not have a MAC...I have an HP computer with windows...
Now when I try to use my iTunes a message comes up that says my iPod is on recovery mode and has to do a restore to use my iTunes again...so when u click on that it states that pushing that button will restore my iPod touch to its factory settings...which means I will lose all my data...which I CANNOT do bc the videos of my son are some of his first words, first giggles, etc.
Now my iPod is stuck on a screen with a picture of a USB cord and an iTunes icon... and holding the power and push buttons down at the same time does nothing except bring up the apple icon for a moment and then it goes right back to the USB and iTunes icon
When I called Apple they said in order to talk to tech support I had to pay a fee of 19 dollars...which I think is kind of crap...I paid over 300 dollars for this and all I want is somebody to help me access my pics...I have done nothing wrong...this iPod was never dropped and never broke...I did the backup like I was supposed to and now I have an IPod touch that does nothing, and if my library of pics and videos are on my computer, I have no clue where or how to view them or back them up onto DVD....
I'm very upset and frustrated...please help!!!

You should really read the manual.

  • HT1386 When I connect my iPod to my computer and try to sync Apps from my computer to the iPod, a warning comes up saying that I will lose all my existing Apps. Please help

I have got a new computer and i can no longer do a full sync. Apple always tells me I will lose all my exisiting Apps if I do a new sync. I prefer to purchase Apps on my computer over my iPod because of the smaller iPod. The new computer is recognized by Apple as an allowable new PC.
But this Sync warning is a pain. Plus, when i view my iPod's App icons on my copmputer, I can no longer drag and move them. I have the latest version of iTunes installed. Thank you for your help

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your iPod. Only if you back up your device manually before syncing, you can restore it from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your iPod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your iPod for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • I have logged in to my itunes account on a different computer and none of my purchased music is showing up. I also have plugged my iphone in to get updates but it says I will lose all media and apps if I don't update on the computer where  I sync everythi

I have logged in to my itunes account on a different computer and none of my purchased music is showing up. I also have plugged my iphone in to get updates but it says I will lose all media and apps if I don't update on the computer where  I sync everything. I have authorized this new computer so I don't know what the problem is. I can't get on my old computer with my itunes account because the computer is broken. Not sure what to do

"I have logged in to my itunes account on a different computer and none of my purchased music is showing up."
Correct.  it does not magially appear in other places.  It will only be where you put it.
"I also have plugged my iphone in to get updates but it says I will lose all media and apps if I don't update on the computer where  I sync everything. "
Correct as well.  Iphone will sync with one computer at a time.  Syncing to another will erase the current content.
You need to copy everything ( itunes library/contacts/pics/calendars/files/docs) from the old computer, or your backup copy of the old one, to the new one.

  • I charged my iPod on my computer, and now iTunes gives me a message that I need to "restore" my iPod, but that if I "restore" it, I will lose all my settings.  I don't even use itunes on my iPod.  What can I do?

I only use my ipod touch for downloading audio books with Overdrive and do not use itunes on it.  Today I charged my ipod on my mac, and my mac screen now tells me that  itunes has detected that my ipod is in "recovery mode" and   I need to "restore" my ipod, but the message warns that if I "restore" my ipod, I will lose all my settings and be back to factory settings.  All that shows up on my ipod screen  is the itunes logo and a charging cord.  I would be so grateful for some help.

When in recovery mode you can't backup the iPod.
You will have to restore via iTunes. See:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

I recently purchased songs from itunes via my pc and I dont know how to get them onto my iphone? When I click the sync button it says I will lose all the music currently on my iphone.. Help

If you're syncing with a different iTunes library than the one you previously synced with, then there is no way around it. You're gonna loose the old data. The only way round it would be to make sure that all the music files on your iPhone is also in your iTunes library. If you still have access to the computer with the old library, you could copy the files on to an external harddrive, and then import them into your new iTunes library.
If it is in fact the same library, then the music currently on your iphone, is also in your itunes library. Just make sure that the artists/albums/playlists, or whatever you sync contains these tracks, that you allready have on your phone and don't want deleted. What i do is, i create a playlist specifically for my iPhone, and i set it up to only sync with this playlist. Whenever i hear a track from my iTunes library or buy a new track that i want on my phone, i just drag it to this playlist and next time i synchronize, it's there without deleting anything else.
