Upgrading to Logic 9 from 8

Hello all,
I am wondering if anyone has had any issues when upgrading to Logic 9 from 8.  I need to first upgrade to 10.6.2 from 10.4.11 and then upgrade my Logic program. Will this be a good match for my computer?  I am using a MacBook Pro dual processor from 2006

Any suggestions  about looping devices?
There are quite a few different ways of achieving looping effects, though - Logic's Tape Delay can be used with the Freeze button turned on at the bottom left hand corner. You can create something in that kind of way with other fx added and then bounce it down to an audio file when you think you've got it right and use that bit as part of your whole arrangement.
I'd loved to have had Mainstage about 20 years ago when I used to be gigging, but I've only had a quick look at it, since its secondary to the main things I want to do now.
You probably want to find something with Ableton now that you can work with.

  • How do I upgrade my logic from my PC to my Mac?

Idiot 101 for sure, but I'm just wondering if I can use my old product key# and/or USB insert from my PC version of Logic with my new Mac. I have a "hybrid" install disc but it asks for a much older version of Mac OS (9). I think the last version I had on the PC was Platinum 5.0 or something.
Must I buy an entirely new version? Or is there at least an upgrade available somehow, somewhere? Thanks - JT

I would buy the update to the new version.
    You will need :
Your XSKey serial number. your original serial number.
Call Apple as well, for support after buying the upgrade.
I originally had the version 4.8 PC / Mac version too. But I did update regularly, and updated to the version 6 Mac only with no issues. Apple should have no problem honoring your legacy software.

  • Upgrade to Logic Express 7.2 from Logic Audio 5

Is it possible to use the LE7.2 upgrade to get from Logic Audio 5 (Big Box version)? The initial blurb on the Apple store suggests this is the case:
"Upgrade from Logic Express 6, Logic Audio 6 or Logic Audio 5 to Apple's new Logic Express 7"
The requirements include a free USB port for the XSKey, but the person at the Apple store didn't seem too sure either way.
    Any clarification most appreciated.

    Hi,
I upgraded from Logic Audio 5 to LE 7 last year, and I THINK it worked like this: the XSKey was required during installation as "proof" that I had an official Logic 5. After installation of LE7, the XSKey was no longer required.

  • If I  was to upgrade to mavericks from 10.6.8 will my firewire on mackie onyx 1220 still work in logic 9?

If I  was to upgrade to mavericks from 10.6.8 will my firewire on mackie onyx 1220 still work in logic 9?

You need to check the FAQ section on their website - there is a link contained to check on compatibility. Here is an excerpt:
I would guess that it might not be supported in Mavericks, but contact them to make sure. The second problem is that it's been discontinued.

  • How do I upgrade to Logic Pro from Logic Express?

When I decided to dump ProTools and go with Logic, it was easy because Express was pretty cheap and there was always an upgrade path to Logic Studio. Now it's version 9 and I don't see an option to upgrade to Logic Pro 9 from Logic Express 9. Can you guys help me out here?

Based on the replies in the Logic Express forums, it looks like I'll just have to suck it up until Logic 10 comes out.
I think I would feel totally hosed if it weren't for the fact that I recently got Komplete 8 Ultimate, so I don't really care for the Logic synths.

  • Just upgraded to Logic studio from Logic Pro 7 Some Tips

    Hi All
Just sharing some of my tips.
Tip1: If you have an "academic" version, it could be the "retail" version. I purchased the academic version 4 years ago. To my surprise, I discovered it's the full version, the apple store just put an academic sticker on the shrink wrap. The "obvious" signs: XSKey has retail on it. When loading there's no academic version on the title. The box has a barcode sticker that says retail.
Tip 2: When upgrading to Logic Studio. The install discs are full installs. What did this mean to me. Well I have a G5 iMac and intel MacBook. Logic Pro 7.2 was the first "universal version". One would assume you would have to upgrade to 7.2 (which has been discontinued) for the MacBook, then upgrade to Studio. Not the case. All you need is the XSKey plugged into the MacBook and install the Logic Studio (upgrade). Type in the serial code and your away. All my MacBook had installed was Leopard 10.5.
Hopefully these tips help people some people out.

    Peace. . . .

I have lost my serial number for my logic 8. I have the box and discs but seem to be missing the crucial bit. Anyway, I only found out as I am trying to upgrade to Logic 9 which i just bought and it needs the serial number for 8 as well.
How can I go about finding it or getting a new one etc.

Generic info can be found here: http://www.apple.com/support/proapps/serialnumbers/

  • Not able to install Logic on mac with OSX.  10.8.2. Error message: Logic Studio.mpkg cannot be opened as the power pc programs are no longer supported. I have logic studio 8 software purchased in 2007 and upgraded with logic studio 9 (purchased in 2009)

After an earlier attempt to move Logic from my other mac (OSX 10.6.8) with the migration assistant to my new mac with OSX 10.8.2. I've re-started the whole start up process by erasing the hard drive from the new machine and build it up from scratch. After a new "out of the box" start, I decided to install LOGIC from my disks : starting with my 2007 package Logic Studio 8 and upgrading with my Logic 9 package from 2009. When trying to start to install 2008 I got the error message : Logic Studio.mpkg cannot be opened as the power pc programs are no longer supported.
What does this mean? HOw do I get this working under 10.8.2 as it works flawlessly under OSX 10.6.8. For sure I didn't buy a new machine to have OSX 10.8.2 but I suspect this is the roadblock to installing my logic package.
    Help!

    Mark,
    Sorry...
I completely lost the thread (I actually got confused between you and another poster on a another forum that was asking the same basic question) and somehow ended up thinking you were trying to install on a PPC Mac
My apologies and please ingnore those parts of my last post relating to the PPC Macs...
You have an Intel Mac and therefore Logic Studio 2 Boxed Upgrade set should install/run on your Mac without issue. As I said earlier.. you do not need to try and install from the original Logic Studio 1 /Logic 8 Boxed set...(It won't work anyhow because you have an Intel Mac and that version had a PPC installer)  but just install from the Logic Studio 2 / Logic Pro 9 Upgrade Boxed setof DVDs instead...
Have you tried the "Make Disk Image" solution I gave earlier? That normnally works under such circumstances as what you are describing can happen when your DVD drive cannot read the DVDs correctly... I have had this situation myself where one drive read them okay and another failed to do so for whatever reason. Making and then installing from Disk images of those exact same disks resolved the issue for me...
You can try to reinstall directly from the DVDs of course though under some circumstances it may not allow you to reinstall Logic Pro itself if that part of the original installation attempt was successful... in which case you can also try this... (It's probably the easiest method if Logic 9 was already installed and present in your Apps Folder)
If the Logic Pro App is in your applications folder..
Run Software Updates to update Logic Pro to a version that will run under 10.8.2 (The initially installed version of Logic will not)
    Run Logic
Go to the menu bar in Logic and select Logic Pro/Install Additional Content and select all content in there..
This content is basically exactly the same as what is stored on the remaining DVDs of the boxed set so you might not need to use the rest of the DVDs to install from but download it all instead from Apple Servers...

  • How can I upgrade to Pro From Express

    Hi,
I currently have Logic Express 9.0.0 and would like to upgrade to Logic Pro (or Studio?). Can I simply download Pro and install it on top of Express? Is the price pro-rated?

    There is no pro-rated price.
Logic has been reduced to $199 from the app store...... mainly so Apple can sell more hardware.
Next year they will be giving it away... (kidding, hopefully)
The main content, application and support files is a 2.5 GB download, the additional content, Jampacks, Loops, is many, many more GB than that.

    2. This is a tedious process and you want to check after the second 'p'rint command that it looks reasonable, before the 'w'rite and 'y'es to confirm.
    3. You will need to reboot after the change, because the disk you are booted from is the one being modified. Reboot will rebuild disk0s4 using the start/end you entered.
    4. Run the dd command - sudo dd if=/dev/rdisk0s4 count=1 2>/dev/null | hexdump -C and check that the first line contains "R.NTFS".

I own Logic Pro 7( I used to have a PowerPC  and need to upgrade to Logic Pro 9 (new Intel chip, system 10.8) .  Do I need to buy a whole new set or do I upgrade for less cost?

The cost of the Full Logic Pro 9 from the App Store is less than the cost of the discontinued Boxed Upgrade set for Logic Studio (if you could find one) ... so you might as well purchase the full Logic Pro 9 from the App store and be done.

  • I had to trash pref files when upgrading to Logic 9

Started with Logic 7 three years ago...
So yesterday I upgraded to Logic 9 from 8, and I had two unusual problems.
First, when I would record a track, the waveform overview wouldn't draw. It would make the blue box, with a line down the middle, and I had audio, but no visible waveform. If I manually prompted Logic to redraw it, it would...
But then on subsequent tracks they wouldn't have a waveform either. Now it's pretty common for Logic to ignore rendering these while you're actually recording something. It's focused on getting your audio on the drive... but as soon as you stop, it will immediately display your waveform and that wasn't happening.
I also was getting a "disk too slow message". I was recording to an internal drive and I have recorded multiple tracks simultaneously with Logic 8, so a single voice track shouldn't have made a difference.
Repairing permissions seems to have stopped the "disk too slow message", and as far as the waveform overview, I trashed the pref files. (Logic will make new ones when you relaunch it) That seems to have fixed the issue.
I went through something similar when they came out with 8. I actually had to delete the old program and do a complete re-install.
Having gone through that, which isn't much... Logic 9 looks really good. Some great new features...
Here's a question: How can we get Apple to give us a .pdf manual? Is there someplace we can put in the request?
Based on what I've seen, that's the biggest disappointment everyone has!

  • Upgraded to Logic 9, can i remove Logic 8?

    Hey all
I've just upgraded to Logic 9, can i uninstall Logic 8 to free up some room or is it still needed to run LP9? For some reason I have 3 versions of Logic in my applications now - Logic Pro, Logic Pro 8 and Logic pro 9.0.0.
    Any ideas?

Logic Pro = 9.1.3 and the rest speaks for itself. You can delete the older versions, but there's no need - in fact, I would keep them in case any project created with those earlier versions won't open properly in 9.1.3. Once you've verified that all your (old) projects open properly in 9.1.3, you can trash them. But again, you don't have to, it won't interfere in any way.
You can also create a new folder within the applications folder and put the unused versions in there. They will still function normally if you'ld open them from there.

  • Upgrade to Logic Studio

I just finished composing some stuff on Logic Pro 7 using EX24 and a couple of other plug ins. The composition is quite basic, and I did not tweak too many settings (ie reverb, EQ etc) fort the Ex24 instruments.
Yesterday I decided to upgrade to Logic Studio. If I do that and open my composition now, will the sounds etc be exactly the same? Or should I expect a completely new world, and a full rework (note: the point is that I have used EX24 and some third-party plug in called "Swarshala").

ISSUE 1: EXS24 instruments -- Some error messages (shown below)
    **EXS24 instrument “Piano & String Layer.exs”:**
    Audio file “16n7aD#3.wav” not found!
    EXS24 instrument “String Ensemble.exs”:
Audio file “06f9bF1 M.wav” not found!
    EXS24 instrument “Pop Flute.exs”:
    Audio file “YTFLUTEA3X01.aif” not found!
When I open up EXS24, I find all these instruments under section 12 – Legacy Instruments. Even if I reapply the instrument, it does not work. However, other instruments under Legacy Instruments are playing OK. Any ideas?
Yes. This is a well known issue where some EXS samples that are actually from the Garageband content are deleted when installing Logic Studio. As you say, you can still find the settings in the EXS because the settings are there. But what you are missing are the actual sampler files. I wrote step-by-step instructions a while ago just for this purpose, check them out here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1395501
    ISSUE 2: System Overload.
I just upgraded from 2GB RAM and 120GB ATA to 4GB RAM and 250GB ATA. I am still > getting System Overload errors http://The audio engine was not able to process > all required data in time. (-10011). I know an inordinate number of peope are
seeing this error but did not find a proper solution to this yet. Any answers, > or pointers to where I should look to find an answer?
If it's just happening the very first time you play through the project, that's normal. Just get in the habit of playing it once through before you do anything else. If it is happening over and over again in a single project, there are ways of maximizing your system, but the best and most proven solution for this issue, thus far, is to reinstall Tiger. Logic 8 runs much more efficiently on Tiger than it does on Leopard. Check out this thread here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1437644
Also, is your new HD a 4200rpm drive or a 5200? If it is a 4200rpm, that's going to create a serious bottleneck, and I'd recommend switching back to your factory drive. If it's 5400, then no need to switch. Most would recommend recording to and keeping your samples and other audio files on a 7200 speed Firewire 400 or 800 external drive. I use my internal 5400 to do sampler instruments/mixing/editing, etc, and I have very good performance on that. But I am on Tiger too.
    Good Luck!

  • Upgrade with logic pro 7.2 Academic ?

    Hello
I work with an academic version of logic pro 7. I want to know if I can upgrade my software to logic studio?
    thancks

Ok, let's compare, on the online store:
    - the upgrade option for Final Cut Studio 2 ($499) has an asterisk next to it, which notes: "The upgrade version requires a valid serial number from a commercial version of Final Cut Studio, Production Suite, or Final Cut Pro 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. Academic and not-for-resale versions are not eligible for this upgrade."
    - the upgrade option for Logic Studio ($199) does not have an asterisk next to it
Which leads me to believe that armed with an academic version of LP7.x, you can upgrade to Logic Studio for $199?? Yes? No? Maybe??
