Upgrading to Mountain Lion using free upgrade, download froze halfway, tried again and unable to use same code twice. Is there a way I can get a new code without having to submit other information (scan/photo of proof of purchase)?

Open the App Store and navigate to the Purchases tab. You should see Mountain Lion there. You can click there to restart the download.

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I cannot open my File Maker Pro files. Can I use Numbers to open these files?

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I cannot open my File Maker Pro files. Can I use Numbers to open these files?

Numbers is a spreadsheet program and FileMaker is a database program, so you probably can't use Numbers to open them unless you had first exported them from FileMaker in a spreadsheet-compatible format.
If you upgraded from 10.6 Snow Leopard or earlier and your old copy of FileMaker won't open anymore, it might be a PowerPC application that is not compatible with 10.7 and later. If that is the case, to work with your FileMaker files you should upgrade your copy of FileMaker to the latest version, which seems to be FileMaker 12.

No one here would have any information as to where the MacBook Pro was purchased.

  • I have Mac OS X 10.5.8, can I upgrade to Mountain Lion without first upgrading to Snow Leopard or Lion?

I have Mac OS X 10.5.8, can I upgrade to Moutain Lion without first upgrading to Snow Leopard or Lion first?

    No.
Upgrading to Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
You can purchase Snow Leopard by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will receive physical media - DVD - by mail.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download.

  • I have Snow Leopard, But I cant upgrade to Mountain Lion, can I upgrade to Lion?

I have an old MacBook, from 2006 and currently have Snow Leopard installed (after purchasing it in 2010), I want to upgrade to Mountain Lion mainly because I want the Xcode 4 which looks 100% better than the current Xcode I have. However, when I try to buy the OS X Mountain Lion it tells me I do not have the correct processor. After a little research I saw an article that said some OS X Lion users could not upgrade to Mountain Lion because Mac is no longer supporting its older models like MacBooks before 2008 or something like that.
So this lead me to the idea maybe I don't have to upgrade to Mountain Lion, maybe I could upgrade to Lion and still be able to get Xcode 4. So, I tried to find a way to upgrade to OS X Lion, but I could only find the upgrade to Mountain Lion. Which is frustrating because I don't want to buy a brand new MacBook just to get Xcode 4, its nice, but not that nice. But Apple should allow me to at least upgrade to Lion, because they decided to no-longer support this older hardware I am still using.

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu; Lion requires a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) or better CPU and at least 2GB of RAM. You don't need to buy a brand new Mac in any case.

I bought a MacBook Pro in July and it qualified for the free upgrade for the new software. I went through the process and got a claim number, now how do I download the software? Please help!

  • Buying a new mac with mountain lion grants free upgrade on others?

I currently have three macs running lion.  I am about to purchase a new mac with mountain lion.  Does the purchase allow me to download the OS in app store, which in turn would allow me to upgrade my other macs to mountain lion free of charge?

Before you buy your Mac, just check to make sure it doesn't come with Mountain Lion already installed. If it comes with Lion, then you will have to download Mountain Lion from the App Store, and then you will be able to install it on all your Macs.
I believe the same applies for iLife, if it comes pre-installed on the Mac, then you probably will not be able to download it on all your other Macs.

  • After upgrade to mountain lion a hd with snow leopard will not boot and run the MBP

Upgraded MacBook Pro to 10.8.2. Works fine. Swapped out the internal hard drive with 10.8.2 on it, put in the old hard drive with 10.6.8 and booted up as per usual. Mac fires up but dos not finish the boot process and it leaves me with an on and off pulsating gray folder that has a question mark on it. I have tried a brand new drive with a new 10.6.8 installed and it misbehaves the same way.
Does the Apple store upgrade process alter the internal MacBook Pro or its software in any way? I was not, am not aware of such software. I want to be able to carry along two hard drives, swappable, with different OSX and applications when I go out to help people out of their problems. Something I have done successfully for the past 15 years - free of charge, I might add.
This is the first time that I am stumped. I am not a programmer btw.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Meanwhile I shall keep on muckng about.

Your problem is that your old HD is no longer blessed. if you can, connect both drives at  the smae time, then
First, open the “Startup Disk” preference pane and select “Mac OS X” as the operating system to boot. This will re-bless your Mac OS X volume on the older install.
No need to delete or zero the drive at all.

  • I upgraded to Mountain Lion ... three days later - still trying to get back to where I was

After I have upgraded, it seems like more is broken than works.
    1. Safari is REALLY slow - 60+ second page loads
    2. iMac boot time is over twice the time it took to boot before
    3. Time Machine no longer works.  It states, "preparing backup" for hours and then just says failed
    4. The upgrade moved icons under "Launch Pad" to different places and folders.  It removed some of the items - how do I get them back?  They have been removed from applications also
    5. Bluetooth no longer works with any device except the apple keyboard and apple mouse
Any help anyone??  This has been a painful painful upgrade.

Restore your Lion bootable backup/clone or TM backup and try ML in a couple of weeks. You won't be missing much.

  • Downloading mountain lion it has been downloaded but now shoes calculating and nothing happening, downloading mountain lion it has been downloaded but now shoes calculating and nothing happening

Downloaded Mountain Lion the download of 4.4 Gb is complete but it shows calculating and nothing seems to be happening

If you force quit the installer, you might want to consider making a copy of the installer and moving the copy out of your Applications folder. The installer self destructs when the installation is complete and a copy would keep you from having to download the installer again. You could also consider making a bootable DVD/USB installer so you can delete the copy off your hard drive. The program is free and does all the work for you.
