Upgrading to OS Lion: Currently running FCS 2 on OS 10.6.8

I am currently running Final Cut Studio 2 on a Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard (10.6.8). If FCS is already installed, should upgrading to OS Lion through the App Store cause any issues?
I have already worked around the installation issues re FCS 2 with my iMac (Rosetta, etc.). Most discussion out there regards upgrading is FCP is not installed. Can't find much about the OS upgrade if FCP was installed before. I don't want to have to reinstall FCS 2 on my MBP if I upgrade on my laptop. Thanks.

The consensus is that it's always better to reinstall. However, if you clone your startup drive before upgrading to Lion, you could always clone back to return to snowleopard.

First we need to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Early 2006 model 1,1 Core Duo can only run a maximum of 10.6 Snow Leopard.
The models Late 2006 Core 2 Duos 2,1 through Early 2008 4,1 can only run a maximum of 10.7 Lion.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody through the Mid 2010 White Unibody model 7,1 can run 10.8 Mountain Lion.

Now that being said, the 2GB RAM requirement will not leave you with a smoothly running system. Max out your RAM that your system can handle (more than 8 GB would be up to you) . No. Mountain Lion Client and Server are two separate purchases and downloads. You will need to upgrade to both.

Of course. You need to purchase Lion from the App Store, not download one of the update packages.

If they are the grey discs which came with the iMac, then they will be machine specific and will not work on the MBP anyway. You will need to purchase a retail copy of Snow Leopard from the Apple Store for about $29 and upgrade from that. I presume your MBP is Intel and not G4.

Before attempting any Major Upgrade... get yourself an External Hard Drive... and create a Bootable Clone Backup of your current Hard Drive...
By far the easiest way to make such a Backup, is to use something like

That way, should anything untoward happen during the Upgrade,
You will NOT LOSE ANYTHING.

Correct, they are different generations of processors. The Core 2 Duo being a 64bit processor. The Core Duo being 32 bit. Lion needs a 64 bit processor.
You would think the chip manufacturers could come up with more distinct names. :-)
