Upgrading to the latest version of Firefox would cost me about $2,500 so why am I mad?

I have a Mac G5 with OS 11.4.11. In order for me to upgrade to the latest version of Firefox I would have to install a new system. If I install a new system I have to install all new programs. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, GoLive and other CS programs, plus PowerPoint, QuarkXpress , and many others. I can't afford to upgrade. I really like Firefox but what am I suppose to do?

Firefox 4 and later require a Mac with an Intel processor and OS X 10.6 (Firefox 16 runs on OS X 10.5).

• Where did Google Earth go when I upgraded to the latest version of Firefox?

I clicked the popup that upgraded to the latest version of Firefox - and clicked to give it permission to make changes to my computer - and my Google Earth was no longer there. I restored my computer to before I had made the Firefox changes and my Google Earth was there but I got a blank page when I tried to open Firefox. Then I re-downloaded Firefox and Google Earth is gone. I would like to have both. If I have to do without one I would give up Firefox and use Internet Explorer until the problem gets fixed.

I doubt it is a Norton Security problem. Maybe. I solved it by deleting the account and re-installing it.

I tried to upgrade to the latest version of Firefox but on the Firefox start page it still says "you are not on the latest version of Firefox, upgrade now". The start page looks different so maybe it did upgrade but why does the reminder still show?

You may see that message below the Google search box on www.google.com/firefox which is the old Firefox default home page. It appears that page is no longer being maintained by Google. You appear to have the latest Firefox version.

• What do I do when I've tried upgrading to the latest version of Firefox and I see the message: "access denied"?

I've tried multiple times to upgrade to the latest version of Firefox. I click download, then run, and shortly after, a little pop-up appears titled "7-Zip" and the message "Access is denied" is within the pop-up.

Try this:
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
*Start the installation with a double-click on the desktop icon
It is possible that anti-virus software is causing the problem.
Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test.

My computer did it's normal Window update as well as updated to the latest version of FireFox. Since then I can access minimum parts of normal websites and I cannot use multiple tabs to search different websites. I restored my computer to before the Windows 7 update thinking that was the problem but I still have trouble accessing sites and extreme slowness with FireFox. Any ideas?

• After upgrading to the latest version of firefox. I can no longer access the internet and all traces of Mozilla Firefox are gone from my computer. I have no access to the internet, my home page or my e mails. What can be done??

I have been using firefox for years. I downloaded the latest version and at the conclusion of the down load I was refussed access to the internet. Something about Proxy???? I checked my firewalls and security and they said that mozilla was allowed but everytime I attempt to gain access I am refused. I cant access the internet and I cant download another program to access the internet. I uninstalled Firefox and attempted to reinstall but after uninstalling Firefox I have no means to reinstall because there are no traces of it on my computer and I no longer have access to the internet. What do I do? I cant access my e mails, stored messages, favorites etc etc.

No. After I select "Choose" the dialog box expands to provide only three choices. This is a new bug. I have only seen it in the past week or so, but it is maddening. I have observed that, while the Mozilla Foundation focuses on trivialities like which search engine should be the default, the Firefox application becomes buggier and buggier. Most of my family has switched to Chrome, and I will be following shortly. Firefox used to be a great program. Not any more. Getting assistance with a problem has also become very difficult.

• Upgraded to the latest version of FireFox After restarting I could not browse? Also how do I export bookmarks?

The browser acts as though it is connecting to the page, yet without giving any sort of error, it shows up as blank. Just pure blank with the address on the URL bar, and (I forget the name sorry) the little page icon that often appears next to the address is a blank page, the name of the website also does not load on the top bar.
I restarted my computer, but this didn't work either. Not even the "What's New" page of FF that automatically comes up after an update wouldn't load.
I have no idea WTF this is about but I have no way of browsing now. I'm on my PC since I have no other way of browsing on my laptop (I've gotten rid of IE)
I just don't know what happened because I didn't do ANYTHING ELSE! I downloaded the update, installed and then restarted FF.
If this is a general problem then I want to uninstall FF completely and revert back to the previous version- but I did this before on an old comp that didn't handle the upgrade too well, and I lost my bookmarks.
How can I save my bookmarks?
Thank you!
PS- I'm posting this from my PC, and the upgrade has also been done on this computer, however I'm not experiencing any problems here.
I also posted this question on Yahoo! Answers and someone said this:
This is currently happening to me too, and I eagerly emailed Mozilla and they replied saying,
Thank you for the message you sent to our team. We are currently facing huge problems with our update managers and several issues have risen around the world about updating failures. We hope to get it fixed as soon as possible and we hope you understand that we are trying our best to get it back up and running
So, I advice you to use Chrome or Opera while Firefox updates their problems.
Honestly I don't know what the hell to do. Like I said above, I removed InternetExplorer from my laptop and have no other browser.

See;
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/Backing_up_and_restoring_bookmarks_-_Firefox
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup
Did you check your security software (firewall)?
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.
See Server not found and Firewalls and http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firewalls

• No matter how many times I try to upgrade or reinstall, it always installs an older version that allows pop ups and viruses to keep coming back. How do I upgrade to the latest version of firefox if it only somehow always restores the previous version?

No matter what I do, I cannot upgrade firefox, and as a result, almost every site I go on that no longer supports my browser keeps telling me to upgrade, and I keep getting back unwanted viruses. Each time I try to reinstall or upgrade firefox, all it does continuously is reinstall the old version I had previously.

• How can I get past recuring snag upgrading to the latest version of Firefox? (I currently have v 3.5.3)

When I try to install the downloaded update, I get partway through the Install Wizard, then I get a message: "Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Firefox. Do you wish to reboot now?" If I click "Yes", my laptop reboots; but the version of Firefox is the same and the same thing happens all over again when I try to upgrade. If I click "No", all windows close; and when I try again to install the downloaded upgrade, the same thing happens all over again. P.S. Even when I try to Uninstall Firefox, I get the same message and the same thing happens.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
* Firefox 6.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
* Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
* Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.

• I have a 2011 iMac running MAC OS X Version 10.6.8. I get msgs. to upgrade to the latest version of Firefox. When I start the download, it goes into a buffering mode, nothing happens. Also happens when I go to the FF website to download manually.

Details are above.

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

• Can't open firefox after upgrading to the latest version. All programmes affected, basically nothing works and it's driving me mad!

Having updated firefox, it does not work. After an hour or so to try and open firefox, it says firefox has crashed and gives option to restart or quit.
Same with internet explorer and chrome - no response. After about an hour, excel finally opened but so slow to be able to do anything.
Also noticed a message bottom right corner of screen saying this version of windows is not authentic. I have windows 7 and it is legitimate and have not seen this message before.
I have read lots on the internet but nothing seems to match my problem if nothing working. I am unable to change settings or look at set up of any programmes because I cannot get in to them.....
Any ideas would be so gratefully relieved please!!

• I upgraded to the latest version of firefox and when i click on a icon on my desktop after logging out of firefox it gives me the error message : there was a problem sending the command to the program how do i get rid of this?

bold text

@sjpierce - I don't believe that this is a Firefox-specific issue, but it does sound like you have some sort of malware on your machine. What was this innocuous link that you clicked on? A lot of viruses and malware make their rounds on Facebook.
Regardless, what I would do is this ( I assume you're running Windows):
* Download the Free and awesome Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) via http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/
* Next update MSE and do a full system scan to ensure you don't have any existing malware on your machine. If so, clean it off and reboot. Keep doing this until you come up clean.
* Refer to this article on SUMO Profiles
* Delete your old Firefox profile, create a new one and launch Firefox 4 again using the new profile
You should be back to normal at this point.
If you are running an OS like Mac OS X or Linux, it's unlikely that you have malware and you should probably clean your Firefox profile and start over again.
