Upgrading to Yosemite wiped out my Lightroom 5.6 catalog and presets.

My stand alone Lightroom 5.6 is gone. Even the LR presets that came with Lightroom 5 are missing.
I have tried for hours to reload all the presets, plugins and link the images (stored always on external HD)
Things look right after backing up however, restarting the computer everything is lost again.
Going back to find the back up? It is empty. To open Lightroom 5.6 empty again. It doesn't give me the option to choose a catalog.
I can however, open a recent catalog. It opens up without any presets or images. Either way I have to manually link everything all over again.
The Adobe forums were not as helpful as I had hoped.
My apologies if this doesn't make sense.

In LR6, select File->Open Catalog and point to your LR5 catalog

My computer crashed after an attempt to upgrade to Yosemite. I can't quit the installer and my MacBook keeps on restarting

I Have a 2008 Macbook Pro 15". It was running issue free until I upgraded to Yosemite. Now my logic board is fried and apple will not fix it. It started with mail accounts unable to send mail, just had to delete accounts and re- install to fix that. But, at the same time as the download, I started intermittently getting a green tint over the screen along with a snowy static like an old TV set. Fearing that my download was corrupt, I re- installed Yosemite over-writing the previous version .  The green haze kept coming and going, but I also started getting strobe style white flashes in boxes in the 4 corners of my monitor. I had to do power button forced shutdowns because of pointer and keyboard function failure. Apple Genius desk told me it appeared to be a logic board failure but my computer was too old for them to work onand referred me to a Mac Specialist Center. I was told by both places that Apple installed defective logic boards back then due to changing solder formula. They extended product warranty by adding 1 yr but that still expired in 2012. I tried to post a warning on Mac Forums twice about Yosemite being a poison pill to certain platforms and my posts were pulled. The second attempt was responded to in my personal email account stating that if I don't stop posting derogatory comments, I will be blocked from forum. I am just trying to insert warnings in posts where I can. They haven't discovered that yet. Spread the word!

  • IMac and iPad sync with cloud no problems, iTouch with OSi4.2.1 is now wiped out, how do I sync contacts and mail?

I am not a happy mac user at the moment.  I have a new ipad OSi 5.0 works fine with my two Lion systems.  I have an iPod touch with OSi 4.2.1 I was trying to sync my calender, mail and contacts.  It did the mail and calender but it wiped out my contacts.  I not only want them back, I want them synced with the other systems.  I should not have to buy a new touch to get this to work!
I would be happy to upgrade the OSi if it was an option!

You can't actually delete an iCloud account but you can remove it by signing out at System Preferences>iCloud if it is the promary account, or in Mail, Contacts & Calendars if the secondary, and then juste ignore it.
The Blackeberry can only sync with data held under 'On My Mac'. iCloud can only sync with data under 'iCloud'.
When you set up iCloud your calendars and contacts were moved to the iCloud server. If you want to use Blackberry you will have to move them back to 'On My Mac' and not sync with iCloud: it's one or the other.
To move calendars, follow the second set of numbered instructions here:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudmovecalendars.html
To move contacts, File>Export as vCard when you have selected all your contacts, then delete the contacts under iCloud, make 'On My Mac' the default and reimport the vCard.

  • I recently upgraded to Yosemite on MacBook Pro - unable to open iPhoto and Photo Booth

I recently upgraded to OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 on my MacBook Pro (bought in 2011).  Since the Yosemite upgrade, I have been unable to open both iPhoto and Photo Booth at all.  I have lots of photos and need to access them. Both icons of iPhoto and Photo Booth have a circle with a bar across them, in my dock.
When I click on iPhoto I get the message " In order to open “iPhoto”, you need to update to the latest version. The version of iPhoto installed on this Mac is not compatible with OS X Yosemite. Download the latest version for free from the Mac App Store".  I have tried upgrading iPhoto on the App store but get an error message "The item you've requested is not currently available in the U.S. store" .
Since I cannot even view my photos, I cannot store them elsewhere.  Please, can someone help me resolve this problem!!!
For Photo Booth, when I click on it, it says "You can’t use this version of the application “Photo Booth” with this version of OS X. You have Photo Booth 3.0.3" - gives me no option to upgrade at all.
Would appreciate help for both iPhoto and Photo Booth issues described above, with iPhoto being the most pressing concern. Thank You.

The new app is called Photos. It's icon was added to the Dock. Both, Photos and iPhoto, are located in your Applications folder.
If you need to upgrade iPhoto, follow these instructions prepared by Barney-15E: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-8431

  • Lightroom 4.2 catalog and importing problems

I have imported photos into the catalog but when I go to import new photos from the same folder it does not recognize the already imported photos and lists them as new photos still.  Also, it won't import any video files of any extension even though all are listed on the Lightroom website as valid and usable extensions.  On top of that dynamiclinkmediaserver.exe32 is constantly running, even after Lightroom is shut down.  Any ideas?

    Akrider,
Could you please post a screenshot of the import window you use while importing the files.
My guess is that there are some wrong settings which you have selected while importing the files in Lightroom.
Please follow the link below which has step by step instructions to import the files in LR and can tell where the settings might have gone bad.

  • ITunes wiped out most of my music, movies, and games when I synced

I restored the settings on my iPod, downloaded a fresh version of iTunes 7.7, and tried to re-sync at least a half dozen times. No luck. It turns out that somehow my computer had been deauthorized -- I know it wasn't anything I did or didn't do; it happened spontaneously. Once I reauthorized my computer, my iPod starting adding back the songs, movies, and games. Hope this helps some other short-term sufferers from an attack of the iTunes elves.

I think it may be how all of your items are checked under your ipod in Summary and Music and Videos tabs. If you don't check either to sync (if you manually manage music and videos), it removes it. This is very confusing b/c you would think you only want to "sync" stuff that you haven't downloaded to your ipod. Not the case, though. You have to sync everything you want to keep on your ipod....I think
    Hope this helps.

  • Upgraded to Yosemite It's a nightmare!!  Itunes and Safari will not open Iphoto does not exist and the list goes on!!

I've spent all day trying to fix all the problems I'm encountered after updating to Yosemite on my MacBook Pro today.  It's been a waste of a day.  Nothing I have researched has helped.  I wish I never updated.  What is ironic that most of the things that do not work or Apple i products.  I don't understand cloud but have a feeling this is the cause of most of the problems.
After update my computer prompted me to say cannot connect to Icloud Drive (What I don't understand I cloud and didn't know I had an Icloud drive).
Itunes will not open at all and it does not even try to open(I've downloaded it again to no avail).
Iphoto has a Circle slash mark through it so it's not even avaliable.
Safari will not open just like Itunes.
Icloud in preferences just keeps spinning like it's looking for Icloud drive. (Even though I don't use this I feel it is the problem)
So I have no access to my music, my photos  cannot get on the internet with Safari Browser.
I'm afraid of what else probably doesn't work but I've been so consumed with the top three I haven't got to really explore the rest of all the apps.
My main concern at the moment are my pictures and my music.
Please Help, Thank you so much!!

iPhoto is still in your Applications folder. Your iPhoto Library is still where it was.

  • Why is it that the latest update for FF wiped out all my Google email accounts and passwords, without warning me it is going to effect my settings, usernames and passwords on all my computers?

Why did the current (past few days) automatic update for FF delete my saved user-names and passwords for my gmail accounts?

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • ITunes(?) wiped out half my apps on iPad and iPhone today

iPhone 4, iPad2 - both set up for wifi sync to my iMac. Latest and greatest software all around.
My last sync (on purpose) was last night.  Plugged both devices into their chargers just as I got ready for bed.  Got up this morning and all was well on both. Nothing wrong to see.
All morning used both devices and nothing seemed wrong.  After lunch I went to my Mac and noticed some sort of a error message icon next to my phones device entry in iTunes.  I clicked through it without taking much notice and went on with some work in another app.  About 10 minutes later I looked back at iTunes and notices the the Apps tab for my phone looked wrong - way wrong. More than half of my apps had vanished. A quick visit to my phone in the other room confirmed that somehow half of all my apps were gone.  My phone was NOT plugged into power at the time.  Next the really weird part....  I checked the apps tab for my iPad and - same story. Better than half my apps gone....  Another trip to my iPad confirmed that they were gone on the devices as well.  Again. The iPad was not plugged into its charger.
Now. One device I can chalk up to some human mistake on my part.  Two devices with the same issue and I'm thinking bug...  I thought wifi sync only kicks in when I have the devices plugged in. But somehow iTunes wip these apps without them being plugged in.  As a test I checked the box for one of the apps in iTunes and hit apply.  And again - without being plugged in the app was synced back to my iPad.
To fix the problem I had to do a complete restore of both devices.  After many hours I have the both back the way they were this morning.  I've also disabled wifi sync for the time being.  Not sure what other detail to add.  But I feel like there is a iTunes wifi sync bug out there someplace

Perhaps there is some corruption on your iPhone. You could try to restore it: iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software

  • Warning Upgrading from 5 to 6 Wiped Out ALL Of Our Backups

This morning my wife asked if I would upgrade her Blackberry Tour 9630 OS. As usual I started the desktop manager for BB which was version 5.x. I did a complete backup of the device as usual and it put it in the usual folder with all our other backups.
The BB desktop manager said we had the latest OS of 5.0.0.7 which I knew was incorrect. Called Verizon support and she first had me upgrade the Desktop BB software to 6.x. She asked if I had backed up the device and I said yes. The software still said I had the latest version of the BB OS of 5.0.0.7 so the rep had me download an exe file. I ran it and it updated the OS to 5.0.0.9 which is correct.
I then said I wanted to do a restore of this mornings backup and low and behold the folder that holds our backups was totally empty. We searched everywhere for *.ipd files and only found shortcuts which were no longer valid because the target file was now gone. Verizon was at a loss so they got Blackberry support on the phone which proceeded to webex into my computer to find these missing files. They were at a loss and said I have a bad computer or virus which really set me off.
I work for a very large software company in tech support. The blackberry support person seemed fairly clueless even when she was on my machine. Bottom line is this. They refuse to admit they wiped out that backup folder this morning and blame it on the computer. So here I sit setting up this Tour like we are brand new customers. My wife (real estate agent) has lost all her contacts that were in the Tour but not on her outlook which is a lot. My wife lost all her settings. And per usual her spamfighting third party software was wiped out once again. This last thing is normal for Blackberry.
I won't buy another Blackberry. Not because of today but because they have been left behind. Today's incident is simply amazing. So if you're on a Vista 64 machine and you upgrade the BB desktop manager from 5.x to 6.x please be aware that you may lose all your device backups. We did and RIM had no clue what to do or say other than to blame the customer.

We should all learn a lesson from this post. We should make back ups of our back-ups. I know it takes extra time, but you are able to recover should something go wrong. Put your backups on a thumb drive or better yet make 2 copies of your backups

  • IOS 5 upgrade wiped out my Pocketbook data. Can it be recovered?

What happened to my data? Do I have to start from scratch? It also wiped out my levels on Angry Birds and other games, and cleared my books.

If theyare not already on your computer's iTunes, then if you download them onto it you could then try restoring to your backup and see if that restores them and their settings/content - a backup doesn't contain the actual apps, just their content/settings, so for the restore to work fully iTunes needs access to the apps so that it can restore them.

  • Just upgraded to Yosemite, now Final Cut Pro doesn't work

Hi I just upgraded to Yosemite 10.10 on a 2010 MacBook Pro, and the only major tool I use on there now doesn't work.... Final Cut Pro 10.0.9.
The icon in the tray has a line through it and when you click on it, a panel opens advising that I can't use it because I have the wrong version. It doesn't advise what I should do. How can I get Final Cut Pro working again..... urgently!  I've seen a temporary fix somewhere on a forum which involves going in to applications and launching from somewhere deep in there, but not ideal. Whats the proper fix please and why would Apple allow something like this to happen without covering it? Its an apple product on an apple machine and Im a video producer and I have been let down with this...

Thanks to all your lovely help, advice and support I have now found the purchases section of my App Store account and in the Purchases section is the offending NOT PIRATE! copy of FCPX and next to is a button which says INSTALL. I can only image that is the upgrade route - it doesnt say. I have now hit the install button and hopefully that will be it. Would I be correct in saying that Compressor also needs a similar upgrade or am I going to get abuse for asking that as well?

  • Can't open Word Excel or Powerpoint since upgrade to Yosemite

Since upgrading to Yosemite I am unable to open Word Excel and Powerpoint

I'm not sure if you exactly mean what you mean.
Are you not able to save an attachement or are you not able to download a file?
For the first case: is the attachement showing up in Mail? If so, what happens when simply clicking on the attachement?
For the second case: check your download-location configured in Safari to ensure you save to a directory available for write-access.

  • Help: Word 2004/Mac wiped out all my customized commands, etc.!

I opened Word 2004 for Mac (Version 11.2) on my G4 15" Powerbook this morning and discovered that it had reverted to its factory install settings and wiped out all my preferences, toolbar customizations, and (many, many) customized keyboard commands.
Neither my Entourage settings nor my Styles have been affected, so the problem seems to be with preferences, toolbar, and keyboard settings only, and not with Office 2004 for Mac or Mac OS 10.3.9. This seems to have happened spontaneously, because everything was working normally when I shut down my computer last night.
I have a copy of my most recent keyboard settings, though not toolbars and preferences, but restoring everything will be extremely time-consuming, and since I'm on a deadline, I'm very ticked off! Can anyone tell me (1) Why this happened, (2) If there's any way to restore all my stuff without doing it all from scratch?; (3) How to prevent this happening again?
Oh, and one more aggravating thing: (4) The Word "Help" window is now so big that the lower right corner no longer shows on the screen of my laptop, and even when I click the green button to minimize the screen, I can't get at that corner to reduce the size of the window. Anyone know how to make the Help window (much) smaller?
Many thanks for any suggestions or information!

Hi, Turtlewiz. Always remember, each time Word kicks you in the teeth, that it's not a bug, it's a feature! Word may temporarily have forgotten that it knows what you want much better than you do, and allowed you to choose some settings and create some customizations yourself. Now that Word has regained its senses, all that silliness is over and you're back at its mercy again. In other words, the situation is normal, as most Word users can attest.
The remedy is to use a different word processor — one that lets you be in charge, instead of dictating the terms of your capitulation at the most inopportune of times.

  • I wiped out my songs by mistake and now I cannot sync my ipod back to my music in itunes?

I wiped out my ipod music by mistake and now I cannot sync my ipod back to my itunes

Can you provide more specific info?
Do you mean that you deleted the music from the iPod (not sure how you would do that without connecting to iTunes) but still have them in iTunes or that you deleted the music from iTunes but still have it on the iPod?
Is your iTunes installed on a Mac or a PC?
