Upgrading windows 8.1 32 bit to 64 bit

I purchased windows 8.1 on the microsoft store and I selected the online download version, and it automatically installed as a 32 bit OS. I have looked for solutions on the forums and internet, but all of these solutions include a clean DVD reinstall,
and I do not have that. Is there any way I could get a disk version mailed to my house or any other way to get a 64 bit version? Or do I have to repurchase windows?

Hi,
You can't upgrade a 32-bit to 64-bit version, this always requires a full re-installation. There are ways to download the correct media from the microsoft website.
See this page for example: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/upgrade-product-key-only
Good luck!

  • Problem facing after upgrade windows 8 pro 64 bit

I was using Windows 8 Pro 64 Bit, recently I have upgraded it with 8.1. After upgrade my Tally gets hanged while exiting with my live account. Tally was working fine with same live account in Windows 8. I have spoke to Tally technical staff, they have
suggested me to try with another account. So, I have created local account and tried, and it worked fine. So, I thought it might be possible that it is due to old user files, so I have removed the live account and recreated it, and tried the same, but the
problem is same. So, as of now I have removed the live account and working with local account and its working fine. Another problem without live account is I am not able to download any app from store. One thing I have noticed that my live account's user directory
is still existing in user folder even I have removed the account with no backup option. So is it possible to flushed all the old and new files lying with my live account? or any other solution?

    Hi,
Does your notebook have switchable graphics that worked i Windows 7?
The AMD graphics driver provides the audio while using an HDMI output.
You will need to install the AMD graphics driver in Windows 7 compatibility mode to resolve this.
The instructions on how to install Windows 7 drivers in compatibility mode are here.

  • Upgrading Windows 7 from 32 bit to 64 bit in Macbook Pro

Ok so I have Windows 7 32 bit installed in my Macbook Pro and I was wondering if I could install the 64 bit version of Windows 7 from the Windows OS instead of doing the whole Bootcamp thing from the Mac OS?

There is no way. Nothing other than bootcamp is up to date on 64 bit. You can also get windows 8 if you like. I suggest you back everything up on a hard drive before changing as well. just to be safe

  • IPhone 4, cannot upgrade Windows 7 - need 64-bit installer ??

I got an iPhone 4 (not 4s) and cannot get linked to my iTunes.  Says I need latest version (10+) of iTunes.  Will not install after downloading - get error message indicating I need the iTunes 64-bit installer for Windows 7.  Have been unable to find a way to fix this - any ideas will be welcome!  Thanks

Johnathan - thanks for the note - I have tried downloading the 64-bit version (or the 64-bit installer link) from apple.com several times.  It always pops up this message:  "This installer is intended for 32-bit versions of Windows.  Please obtain the 64-bit installer from:  http;//www.apple.com/support/downloads/bonjourforwindows.html "
This link is not valid, and, I just loop back to the apple page to download the 64-bit version and get the same error message every time.   I tried also to de-install the current version of iTunes, bonjour, etc from my computer, and, I get the same type message.

  • I have a Windows 2003 Server 64-Bit, and when I upgraded to Firefox 4.0.1 now it won't run, it keeps saying to restart to complete the installation, but I've restarted theserver 4 times, and I still can't use it.

I have a Windows 2003 Server 64-Bit, and when I upgraded to Firefox 4.0.1 now it won't run, it keeps saying to restart the computer to complete the installation, but I've restarted theserver 4 times, and I still can't use it.

I ended up putting it in DFU mode.  It's kinda hard to tell it was in DFU mode because nothing showed on the screen, it was just black, but the sounds from the computer helped to tell me it was connected.
Itunes still didn't recognize the device for whatever reason.
So I used redsn0w.  I don't know if I can say that on these forums, but considering itunes was worthless at this point I am going to give credit where credit is due.
Now I am giving itunes a second chance to upgrade to 5.1, if it doesn't work, well, back to redsnow and maybe I will even jailbreak it this time rather than just using the fecovery fix found under extras.

  • Premiere Pro CS3: Many Problems Fixed By Upgrading to Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

I recently installed an SSD drive and Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.
Installing the Adobe Master Collection CS3 went smoothly and only took a few minutes instead of an hour, as in the past.
Premiere, for the first time in the years I've used it, runs STABLE. Not only that, but I can have AfterEffects open at the same time. And Maya 2008. And everything chugs along smoothly.
Case in point tonight: Multicam Editor: Under XP, it worked, but the quality of the video displays would be badly pixellated when video was playing. Under Windows 7, all the four viewports plus the 'online' viewport are sharp and clear and I can see if a camera is slightly out of focus, which was impossible to detect in the past until I watched the finished result.
The audio dropouts everyone complained about for years are a thing of the past.
And here's the biggie: I can render, render, render and keep rendering h.264 files and Premiere keeps ticking. Under XP, 2 to 3 files and that's it. Unknown Error would be the next render result. Under W7-64, I rendered all night and day without shutting or restarting Premiere, and I even had Maya and AE going and was working in them at the same time, something I could never do in XP because it would run out of RAM. And I can do this in 4GB ram! With 8GB, AE renders 3.5X faster, but most other programs remain about the same. I figure in the case of AE, it has EXCLUSIVE use of 4GB ram all to itself on an 8GB system. At any rate, die-hard CS3 users, don't be afraid to upgrade to Windows 7 64-bit.
The only thing you need to do differently is put the Postscript fonts in Adobe's fonts folder, as it won't see the Windows\Fonts-located PS fonts.
My 2008-vintage editing workstation breaths new life, like a major hardware upgrade was done. The "$139 system performance upgrade" I call it. (Sure, adding the Intel 320 SSD helps, but mainly with launching programs--once they're running, the main improvement comes from Windows 7 64-bit.)

Actually, Win8 is really not a tablet OS... it is "essentially" Win7 with a different front end http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1101032
Anything other than a new Win8 "app" runs on the same kind of desktop you see with Win7

  • How to upgrade Windows 7 64 bit to windows 8.1 ?

    Hello,
I have HP Notebook PC which i purchased as DOS based machine before 5 months. Currently i have windows 7 64 bit version operating system. Now i want to upgrade my laptop with windows 8.1 operating system. So how can i upgrade my windows 7 64 bit machine to windows 8.1. ? Also i am only able to format C: drive. So is their any way to upgrade windows 7 based laptop to widows 8.1 without affecting other drives?
    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi,
Read through these two useful documents to know about upgrade paths, possibilities, limitations:
    http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2234-upgrade-install-windows-8-windows-8-1-a.html
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/upgrade-from-windows-7-tutorial
Make sure that your HP support website has all the necessary drivers compatible with Windows 8.1 before proceeding with upgrade/clean install of any sort. This determines if HP support Windows 8.1 in your model.

  • Upgrading from Windows 7 32 bit to Windows 8.1 64 bit

I have Windows 7 32 bit. Recognizing I can't upgrade to 64 bit and over write the 32 bit system my question
I have multiple SSD. My existing winn7 occupies C:\
Can I install the new windows 8.1 64 bit on a separate drive and then rename it to the C:\ drive
    or
Should I disable the existing win 7 root drive. Go through the boot process of starting Win8.1 in the CD, having it designate C:\ etc and continue the install. Then re-connect (if I need too) the other SSD for the data files
Or, should I shut up and let you advise me the best way to convert to Windows 8.1 64 bit with an existing Windows 7 32 bit :)

While I'm begging for help what is the best method to copy/save Gmail email folders and files as a flash or cd file prior to the system change

  • Upgrading windows 7 home premium 64 bit to windows 7 professional 64 bit

Can I upgrade Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64 bit to Windows 7 Professional 64 bit without losing my program information, my settings or my desktop? If yes, how to proceed?
Thank you for your answer! Manuel

Apologies about the delay. I've been brooding.
Although we don't know where the specific relevant keys are on modern versions of iTunes, there's a shotgun approach we can take to dealing with them, which has a reasonable chance of success in this case. The complicating factor in your case is that you've got a 64-bit Windows. So there's an extra hoop to jump through.
The basic approach is the procedure from the following weblog entry:
[Solving setup errors by using the SubInACL tool to repair file and registry permissions|http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/09/04/solving-setup-err ors-by-using-the-subinacl-tool-to-repair-file-and-registry-permissions.aspx]
The complicating factor is that we have to make an additional edit to the reset.cmd file.
When you're in Notepad, replacing the two YOURUSERNAME values with the name of your Windows 7 user account, in the first line of the batch file, replace the:
    %programfiles%
    ... with:
    %ProgramFiles(x86)%
(On a 64-bit Windows system, subinacl is installed in a different location than on 32-bit systems. So unless we make that change, the reset.cmd isn't going to be able to find subinacl and the reset.cmd won't work.)
While you're in Notepad editing the file, make sure each of the nine lines of the file start of a new line. (Sometimes they get smooshed up together on a single line, and then again the reset.cmd won't work.)
I'd strongly suggest setting up a System Restore point immediately prior to running the reset.cmd. There's instructions on that in the following document:
    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial143.html#manual

  • Upgrade windows 7 32 bit to 64 bit

Just got my t400 with 4 gigs of ram, but forgot to order 64 bit windows, so I only have 2.46 gigs of "usable" ram.  I talked to lenovo, and they said I'd have to return my laptop (and pay a 15% restocking fee) in order to get 64 bit, which I do not want to do.
I can get windows 7 ultimate 64 bit for free through work.  I am wondering if it is possible to format the hard drive, then install windows 7 64 bit.  I assume I would then have to download all of the 64 bit drivers off of lenovo's support page.  Is there anything that I need (drivers/applications) that I would not be able to get off of lenovo's website (for instance, something that is on the recovery partition)?
    Thanks.

Yes, i did the same. I had a Win7 Ultimate Upgrade CD 64 bits. The laptop had Vista Business (32 bits) on it. You can not upgrade from 32->64 so you have to choose a new installation. No need to re-format yourself. The install will do that for you if necesarry. Even better, that way Microsoft can check if you are legimate to use an upgrade CD (or not). The install went very smoothly. In 15 minutes i was running 64 bits. Then i did the Windows Activation first. Because i wanted to make sure i am a legimate user according to Microsoft (of course i know i am but does microsoft?) before going through all the trouble of installation of applications etc...Also run WIndows Update to be sure.
When i was activated (succeeded immediatelly) i downloaded and ran the Lenovo System Update program. That will download everything you need (and more) from the Lenovo site. You can also download the newest BIOS. I would do that as well and i think that doesn't come with the System Update.
After that the most intensive work starts. Installation of all your favourite applications and setiings.
Have a nice vacation! At least you have something on your hands now! ;-)

  • Upgrading Aspire E380 from Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 Pro 64 bit - No device drivers were found

I'm trying upgrade my Acer Aspire E380 from Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 Professional 64 bit and getting an error that no device drivers were found. This happens after booting from the Windows 7 DVD.  The Acer support site only provides Vista 32 bit drivers for this machine.  Where can I find the drivers needed for Windows 7 Professional 64 bit?

I think you need to download this:http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/14875/en-us It seems that Windows 7 doesn't have a disk controller driver for this chpset so you need to unzip the above file and take out the disk controller driver and manually load it so that Windows 7 installer can access the hard drive during installation.
