Upgrading X200s from Vista Bus to Win7 Pro

Hi
I'm thinking of upgrading my X200s to Win 7 pro, but will all my useful Lenovo utils be lost and is there a way to recover them in the new Win 7?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Hello and welcome,
I'm not sure which utils you find useful   The best thing might be to go to SUPPORT above, enter X200s in the Quick Path on the right, then select drivers and software.  Have a look around the list there and see if your favorites are listed as available in Win 7 versions.
it's possible - in some cases - to do an actual upgrade.  That claims to preserve your data and programs.  I would recommend a clean install that wipes everything.  Save your data first!
If you go the clean install route, after '7 is up and running install ThinkVantage System Update and run it.  It will pull down most of the Lenovo apps and drivers automatically.

  • How can I replace the original HP software (not OS) on laptop modified from Vista 32 to Win7 Pro 32?

Product:  HP G60-235DX laptop purchased several years ago with Vista.
I finally went from Vista 32 to Windows 7 Pro 32 bit using the custom install function on a disk for use in refurbishing a computer.  All went well except now when I go to the HP website for driver updates, etc. it recognizes my laptop with the Win7 OS but nothing ever comes up on the list.  How can I get this to work?
Also, I would like to be able to get the HP Support software back onto this laptop so I can allow the program to run and automatically update drivers, etc.
Where can I get a copy of the Lightscribe software for the DVD/CD RW?
The original Vista recovery partition appears to exist but not sure what I can recover off of that without messing up my Windows 7 installation.
    Any help would be appreciated.

When I open your link on my Android tablet I can see everything. I'll try this link in the morning on my laptop. When I went to this area earlier today it insisted on looking for my computer and wouldn't list anything. Maybe your link allows me to avoid that issue. Thanks. I'll post results.

  • Need Detailed instructions to install new hard drive & upgrade from Vista Home to Win7 Enterprise

    Hi folks,
    I have this laptop machine:
    Lenovo 3000 G530 4446-23U Laptop Computer - Intel Pentium Dual-Core T3400, 2GB DDR2, 160GB HDD, DVDRW, 15.4" WXGA, Vista Home Basic
I need to install another hard drive and I also want to upgrade to Win7 Enterprise Edition while doing the rebuild.
I am very nervous about doing this as I upgraded a W530 from Win7 basic to Win7 Enterprise and ran into all kinds of drive issues.  And I thought that would be about as straightforward as you could get, but it a far cry from that.
I do not want to have to go through that again - I still don't have everything working on it.
Can someone please tell me the precise steps to take to do this upgrade and how to ensure that I obtain ALL the drivers for EVERYTHING on the laptop and how to ensure that all those drivers are correct and exactly how to install them.
If there are other issues associated with upgrading from Vista Home to Win7 Enterprise, please advise of those and the solutions.
    Thanks very much.....
    Gus

    hi gmercanti,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Community.
The easiest way to upgrade Vista to Windows 7 is to run the Windows 7 Installer inside WIndows. Follow this guide for instructions. After upgrading, you will need to install the Windows 7 Drivers for Lenovo G530 4446 via http://support.lenovo.com.

  • I am trying to move my Acrobat 9 Pro Extended  from my older HP Win7 Pro notebook to my new HP Win 7

I am trying to move my Acrobat 9 Pro Extended from my older HP Win7 Pro notebook to my new HP Win 7 Pro notebook. This should be WAY easy, and it's not. Sofware downloaded from MS/HP after new noteboook was safely home. Used Microsoft transfersoftware to move all--but the Adobe Night watchman won't recognize my product code (it worked on the older notebook). I have now recopied the irginal download and everything seems fine but the IE plug-in to Adobe PDF printer does not function. Any suggestions?

You won't like this response, but there is no way to simply move any Adobe software installation from one system to another. In part, this has to do with the registration/activation infrastructure that Adobe uses. FWIW, Adobe isn't the only software vendor for which you can't simply move software from one system to another via various migration tools.
You must totally uninstall from the first system including product deactivation and then install on the new system and reactivate.
In terms of “fixing” your current system, I would recommend totally uninstalling the software (and deactivating in the process), reboot, and then reinstall from scratch.

  • Upgraded window from vista to 7 on pavilion DV7 sound not working

Pavilion DV7 1468NR upgraded windows from vista 64 to windows 7 64 sound not working

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45001-45500/sp45073.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, restart the notebook and let Windows fully load.  Open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.
If you still have no audio, open windows Control Panel, open Administrative Tools and open Services.  Check that the following services are all showing as Status= Started and Start-up Type= Automatic
    Audio Service
    Multimedia Class Scheduler
    Windows Audio
    Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
If you need to make a change to any of the above, just right click the service and select Properties, then in the dropdown box next to 'Start-up type',  select Automatic and click Apply to save the change.  Then click the Start button.

  • Upgrading Thinkpad R61 from Vista-32Bit to Win7-64Bit_stuck & need Help

I'm in the mids of upgrading my ThinkPad R61
I've added memory to 4Gb and a newer drive 320Gb
I've purchased the Win7 Home Premium Vista to Win7 upgrade (CDs).
Can I upgrade this R61 laptop to Win 7-64Bit OS?
Thus far, I cannot boot from the Win7 Upgrade CD
So I tried with a USB external DVD.  I got past the Boot stage, however, it's prompting me for a CD/DVD driver before it can continue to load.
I am sensing that I will be prompted multiple times for additional drivers (perhaps 64Bit) before I ever complete the upgrade process.
What is the quickest & easiest path to upgrade my laptop to Win7-64Bit.  (At least, to the point where I can boot from the upgraded drive).
    My ThinkPad R61 Model =  #8932CTO

    Thanks GMAC-R60
My intention was to actualy do a clean install to Win7 -64Bit.
Perhaps it has everything to do with using an upgrade (32-Bit & 64-Bit) version CD of Win7 from Vista?
When I tried to upgrade to 64Bit, it eventually took me to a screen prompting for a CD/DVD driver to continue the upgrade.  I suspected it was looking for a 64bit driver (likely the SATA controller), so I opted out thinking it will be lloking for more drivers through the upgrade process.
I then successfully upgraded it to Win7 - 32Bit version.
However, I would like to take advantage of the 64Bit speed & useability of the additional RA I have inside the laptiop.
I noticed that Lenovo have a listing of Win7 64Bit drivers under their Support section.  If one was to download and expand them them to a folder, would it be possible to essentialy upgrade to 64Bit?
Or, perhaps get CD copy from Lenovo with all the required files & drivers?

  • Deactivate Photoshop Before Upgrade OS From  Vista to Win7

I'm about to upgrade my laptop from Vista to Windows 7, using the "upgrade" install option to install Win 7 over the top of Vista rather than reformeting and doing a 'clean install' so I don't have to reinstall all my programs after the upgrade is finished.  My installed software includes Lightroom 2.7 and Photoshop CS4.  Will Photoshop still be activated after the OS is upgraded or should I deactivate it first, upgrade the OS, and then reactivate it after the new OS takes over?  In other words, will upgrading the OS make Photoshop think it's been installed on another machine?

What version of Crystal Reports? Only some versions support WIN 7. See [this|https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=56787567] wiki for details.

  • Windows 7 upgrade advisor, from Vista, says that Firefox must be uninstalled before upgrading and that I won't be able to reinstall it, is this true?

I am currently running Vista, 32-bit. I am considering upgrading to Windows 7. I ran the Upgrade Advisor Report and it says "Mozilla Firefox 20.0.1 Must be uninstalled before upgrading to Windows 7. You will not be able to reinstall it after upgrading to Windows 7." This appears to be inaccurate info, based on the Firefox website, but I want to verify what I should do before beginning the upgrade. Leave Firefox installed and in place when I upgrade, or uninstall and then re-install after the upgrade?

hello herplaw, you're right, this doesn't sound right - firefox will run fine on windows 7. i'd leave it installed and go ahead with the update. in any case (if you'd have to reinstall it later) you could also back-up the personal information that is stored in your firefox profile before you proceed: [[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]

  • Upgrade T400 from Vista to 7

Anyone have any idea how to find out which drivers I need to download to fix the following errors.
    !  Base System Device
    !  Base System Device
    !  PCI Simple Communications Controller
    !  PCI Serial Port
All in device manager, I have installed a ton of drivers and none of them fixed the problems.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

After your install, put the proper ThinkVantage System Update in place. You need version 4. Uninstall the older one first. It will install most of the drivers you need.

Always better to use Windows Easy Transfer, then do a full clean install instead too.

  • TS1717 are there problems with iTunes upgrading from Vista to Windows 7?

are ther problems upgrading iTunes from Vista to Windows 7?

The best method is to use Windows Easy Transfer first to backup all your data, and do custom clean install. And install all your apps and drivers afterwards.
Yes it should work. Make sure you are ready, and have all the latest drivers and applications ahead of time.
There are some "gottchas" with the upgrade from Vista.

  • Log in from Vista to OS X Tiger server

When I try to log in to an OS X 10.4 server from Vista (on my MacBook Pro), Vista keeps inserting the computer name as predecessor to the user name in the form of computername\username. Needless to say that is not the name on the OS X server. The OS X Server is running as a part of a Windows domain.
Any ideas on what to do to be able to log in?

Add some setup info. en0 is the static ip address for the server to the cable modem... 10 static. Using en1 as the DHCP server 192.168.7.1. Network consists of 10/100 switches. Standard DHCP settings in SA. IP range from 192.168.7.2 thru 127 using en1. DNS is set to 192.168.7.1. LDAP is configured and works fine with Open Directory on. I do have WINS set to our en0 static ip address for the server, but Windows services in SA are off. That is the DHCP settings in SA. Any info and help would be greatly appreciated.

  • HP Solution Center doesn't work after upgrade from Vista to Win7 64b

Two problems. 1) Upgraded Dell 1737 Notebook from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 64b. HP Solution Center no longer works. Have HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909a printer hardwired into router. Downloaded new printer drivers, still cannot print. 2) Cannot get Solution Center to execute. Message says can't find "SolutionCenter.msi". No Win7 upgrade for Solution Center on HP site.

    Hello ReallyFreeBob,
Lets first try Uninstalling the existing printer software using the listed steps..
Press the keys Win + R, a RUN box would open. Type in the command %TEMP% in the box and hit OK button.
A temp folder would open, locate for the folder name begning with 7z..... , open it , then do the following ..
Locate for folder "UTILS" and double click to open it. Locate for folder "CCC" and double click to open it. Locate for file Uninstall_L3.bat and double click to Run it. Follow the onscreen instructions
After the uninstallation is done you may have to restart the PC.
Then download and run the HP Printer Install Wizard from www.hp.com/go/tools
