Upload Excel table to internal table in background

I am using fm ALSM_EXCEL_TO_INTERNAL_TABLE to upload Excel tables from the Application Server. The process works great in foreground mode.
My program requirement is to call an ABAP object from the SAP Job Scheduler (SM36/SM37). So when I run the ALSM_EXCEL_TO_INTERNAL_TABLE in a background job, the programs abends. In the job log, I get error ALSMEX037 Error during import of clipboard contents.
Has anyone seen this error? What causes this error? How can I get around this error in a background job?

Hi,
From background its not possible for you to upload an excel file because the background jobs are run in different processors and they are not directly linked with the pc where the file is stored so the better way to read the excel file is to write another program and execute in frontecd which will read the excel file and store it on the application server and then from application server its easy to retrieve data into an internal table using open dataset and close dataset....

Upload excel data into Internal table

Hi,
I'm trying to upload excel data into internal table, well the excel file layout will be different on each run of the report.
Excel file will have 60 columns and 500 record limit. I can upload the excel data using 'ALSM_EXCEL_TO_INTERNAL_TABLE' and 'KCD_EXCEL_OLE_TO_INT_CONVERT' but the output table is generates 60 lines for each record i.e.., 60 * 500 = 30,000 which could cause performance.
I try with the FM 'TEXT_CONVERT_XLS_TO_SAP', but this will only work if the file structure is static. It didn't work for dynamic file layout. Even GUI_UPLOAD doesn't work to upload excel file, it will work if I convert the file to Tab delimited file.
Please advise if you know any alternate procedure to upload excel data into internal table.

Uploading excel file into internal table with field length more than 255

I am trying to upload the data from an excel file through function module 'TEXT_CONVERT_XLS_TO_SAP'.
I have tested by changing the field type from string, and char2000.
But it is accepting only 255 chars from the cell content.
How to get the total content of the field if it is more than 255 char.

If u have access to ECC R/3 make use FM 'TEXT_CONVERT_XLS_TO_SAP' source code which is existing to convert to Excel to Internal table. It will work in CRM also.
As of Now I don't have access to SAP S/m. Mean while u can try as above said.

GUI_UPLOAD doesnt perform such conversion (Excel, Word, PDF) and wont give you a suitable result, use one of the FM mentioned above or [office integration|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_47x200/helpdata/en/21/b53138e1ba11d2bdbe080009b4534c/frameset.htm] or OLE or convert your Excel sheet to a simpler format : txt, csv, xml.

Upload long text from excel file into internal table

I need to upload service master(T-code : AC02) data alongwith long text.Now i have data in excel as: Service no(ASMD-ASNUM) and corresponding long text for it.
I am facing problem in getting entire lontext from excel into my internal table.It only takes till 255 characters i think.Any help in this regard woulg be highly appreciable.

and you can try with more than 255 chars. in the internal table it will take , if you want check it.
i'm in 4.7 ,5.0 version, what about you ..
please check , you can upload even more than 255.

Upload openoffice excel file into internal table

Hi Everyone,
I have a requirement where in we need to upload vendor master data into SAP.
The data is available in excel format. But the excel sheet was created in openoffice s/w and client is not allowing
us to install MS-Office so that we cut and paste the data by creating anexcel file.
Now there is an option of saving the excel file in openoffice s/w as MS-Excel 95 format with .xls extension.
But since we are saving this in openoffice enivoronment the FM ALSM_EXCEL..... data is not improting this excel file into

Uploading excel data to database table

Dear Experts,
                     I have an Excel file which was downloaded from SQL database, now I need to export this data into my 'ztable', for this first I created an internal table of ztable structure and tried to upload into this table through ''TEXT_CONVERT_XLS_TO_SAP".
But I was unable to get data into the internal table(incompatible type), so now I created an internal table of character type fileds now I able to get data to this internal table, but to put this internal table data to actual database table it gives error, here the actual problem is the fields of internal table are getting concated with blank spaces(observed through debug), I unable to condense these blanks also, (I have created an Excel of my own and put data into it and uploaded that data there is no problem working fine but this problem occurs only for the excel downloaded from SQL db)
                   The problem occurs for quantity and currency fields(I tried through standard FMs also to convert data types ), Could plz suggest something..........

Hi,
To upload excel sheet into database table, define a types which is of same as table fields.
and try it with the function module TEXT_CONVERT_XLS_TO_SAP
Here is a sample code:
CALL FUNCTION 'TEXT_CONVERT_XLS_TO_SAP'
        EXPORTING
         I_FIELD_SEPERATOR          ='X'
          i_tab_raw_data             = fs_truxs( TYPE of truxs_t_text_data.)
          i_filename                 = '<FILE-PATH>'
      tables
          i_tab_converted_data       = <Internal Table>
       EXCEPTIONS
         CONVERSION_FAILED          = 1
         OTHERS                     = 2

1. At the presentation level:
->GUI_UPLOAD
->GUI_DOWNLOAD
->CL_GUI_FRONTEND
2. At the application server level:
->OPEN DATASET : open a file in the application server for reading or writing.
->READ DATASET : used to read from a file on the application server that has been opened for reading
-> TRANSFER DATASET : writing data to a file.
-> CLOSE DATASET : closes the file
-> DELETE DATASET : delete file
If file is on the local PC,use the function module GUI_UPLOAD to upload it into an internal table by passing the given parameters......

exporting
filename = p_file
filetype = 'ASC'
has_field_separator = '#'
tables
data_tab = t_data
p_file : excel file path.
t_data : internal table
