Upload failure. Lost important photos - greyed out subfolder

Uploaded many photos but it created a greyed out subfolder with no photos behind.  Nothing in iphoto, recovered file.  The subfolder created by date shows a palm tree in grey but nothing behind.  How can I recover these photos.

iPhoto doesn't create folders or sub-folders unless you tell it. So I'm not sure I understand what you're asking here.
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • "enable auto import" is greyed out in new cc

Previously, everytime I plugged in a SD card lightroom with automatically open up and start the import process. Since switching to CC, it isn't working this way, and the "enable auto import" is greyed out.  How do I fix this?

I had this problem and I was able to fix it by editing the Windows registry (it was only a minor edit).
I changed the value of the following registry key:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Adobe.AdobeLightroom64\shell\open\command
    The value was:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7\Lightroom.exe "%L"
    I changed it to:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Lightroom\lightroom.exe "%L"

  • Has anybody lost imported photos after upgrading to Lion? (iphoto11)

Has anybody lost imported photos after upgrading to Lion? (iphoto11)

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Import destination greyed out

I am well up the learning curve on Aperture, but still cannot figure out how to designate import destination. "Destination" in the "Aperture Library" block of "Import Settings" says "New Project" but is greyed out and I cannot type in it to make the change. At the bottom of the Import Settings pane there is a notice that Aperture will import the file(s) into a new project which has the name of an old project I deleted early on. I tried various combinations of settings in "Aperture/Preferences". I have been googling and searching here for several weeks on and off. What am I missing here? Thanks.

Frank -- thanks. So it is an Apple design feature:
"http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3380 When Aperture imports from an iPad, it uses Autosplit to maintain the iPad's album structure, rather than splitting images by date. This is usually only an issue if you use a camera connection kit to capture images from a camera to various albums on iPad. If you do not use a camera connection kit, you will likely only see images in the iPad's Saved Photos album. In this case, Aperture creates a single project named for the date of the oldest image in the Saved Photos album. Note: Aperture does not import photos you have already synced to iPad via iTunes; those photos will not be visible in Aperture's import window."
But I still wish I could control the destination folder for iPad imports. I don't use it much as a computer, but I often save photos to the iPad's camera folder from emails sent by family and friends. My kludgy workaround is to let Aperture import the iPad's selected photos to that destination project (named by Aperture for the oldest photo's date in the photos selected for import) and then drag them from that project to where I want them to be, then delete the project. Lot of extra steps.
Because I am a low volume photographer, I prefer to import my photos from cameras and the iPad to a fixed project I call "A Imported Photos for Sorting" and deal with them there. I use the "A" to keep this project at the top of the list for easy finding.

  • Why is Import Video greyed out for a new Flash project?

I have been trying unsuccessfully to load any MP4 (H.264 encoding), FLV, or F4V files into a brand new project. I've tried importing FLV and F4V files via the Import to Library and Import to Stage menu choices but all result in "One or more files were not imported because there were problems reading them" error message. I just downloaded Flash CC today (Feb 23, 2014) and cannot even get started on my project since I cannot seem to load a video into the library or stage. I've looked at the tutorials, but they assume that I can choose the greyed out Import Video... menu choice. Searching the discussion didn't help me as most of the discussions are off-topic or from 2 or more years back.
    Thanks,
    Xtraspatial

Thank you sinious. I had QT 7.5.5 installed. The problem was unrelated. Like a bufoon, I created a new HTML5 canvas, which is unable to import videos. When I switched to a AS3 canvas all was as it should be. And there was rejoicing throughout the land! Case closed.

  • IPhoto 8.1.2 and iPhone 5 import photos grey exclamation mark.

    I'm running OS X 10.6.8.
    iPhoto 09 version 8.1.2 and a current, up-to-date iPhone 5.
I was importing photos and movies from the phone into iPhoto fine until a couple weeks ago. Now, when I look back - some photos never did import at all, or others are visible as thumbnails but the full view is a grey exclamation mark.
The "original" images don't appear to be in the iPhoto "view hidden" contents, either.
I've run the option-command-launch routine and rebuilt thumbs, library, but no good. As a matter of fact, when I try to rebuild the library from backup I get a warning I need to upgrade. I'm not sure what that means? ...upgrade version of iPhoto 09 or uprade to the 2011 edition?
I'm not totally against upgrading to 2011 but that would require upgrading my OS, too. It seems a bit much to solve a glitch/corruption in iPhoto that was working a few weeks ago?
Thanks for your time in reading. I'd appreciate any help you can offer.
    -Dan

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Imported Events greyed out after import

Converted a CD with Handbrake to mpeg-4 without problem. Imported into iMovie and initially able to view Event clips and active frame window. Then, for reasons unclearn, all Events are greyed out, altho active frame window is displayed and will "play". Anyone know what happened? First time user of iMovie so may be missing a critical step?
    Thanks for any guidance. Hvee

Thanks for the tips, but none of these items is the issue. I am using an external 300GB connected via FW 800. The drive has maybe 20GB of stuff on it, so that is not an issue. I can't figure the issue out, because I did a little test. I took some video I captured using the El Gato device, exported as HD 720P. Using iMovie on the Mac Mini, iMovie won't see it on the Mac Mini. I took the same exported version as above and put it on my MBP (2.16GHz, 3GB RAM). Imported it into iMovie in the same procedure as I did on the Mini. Except this time on the laptop, iMovie sees it. Something somewhere on th eMini isn't working right. I have tried repairing disc permissions without luck, so I guess I am down to wiping and reinstalling all my software on the Mini. Hopefully that will work. Any thoughts?

  • Import photos are out of order

I hope I can explain this so it makes sense.  I am trying to import photos from a compact flash card.  When they come into Lightroom they are out of order.  I have tried sorting them by all the different means in the drop down but still are not correct.  I notice that for some reason some of the photos show incorrect dates and that seems to be what is affecting the import.  Lightroom is putting the photos from the oldest date first.  I was able to load the pictures into a folder on the desktop and they are in the correct order just using the camera file names.  When I tried to load them from that folder into Lightroom, they went back to the incorrect order.  Is there a way to import without the metadata?  Is that what is fouling this up?  I don't know where these weird dates have come from but they are there and I can't get rid of them.
I am running Lightroom on an imac with OS 10.4.11 and this is the first I have run into this problem.  These photos are from an older camera, a Nikon Coolpix 885 and are my son's photos.  I normally import from my Canon camera using a compact flash with a reader  and have never had such a problem.  Here I am talking up Lightroom to my son about how easy it is to get the photos in and organize them and he is not buying it at this point.  Hopefully this makes sense and someone knows what is going on.
    Thanks

The date information is taken from the camera which writes it to the file. This needs to be set to the correct date and time in the camera itself.
The order the images are shown in the Library mode is set by clicking on the sort button in the tool bar, which if not showing can be activated from view, tool bar. There are different sort orders that can be applied including sorting by file name. You can also sort by dragging the images to the order you wish them to appear in by selecting user order.

  • DVD Rom Photos greyed out

I have burnt a disk with DVD-Rom content but I cannot access the photographs because on the disk as they are greyed out. The content folder allows me to the photos but as I say the photos are greyed out.
    The disk is DVD-RW.
    Cheers
    Steve Hill

Not 100% certain but you may have a media issue and/or burn speed issue.
Did you try making a disc image first (from the file menu)?
If not, try it and then use apple's dvd player app to test proper playback and content.
When you get ready to burn to DVD-R or DVD-RW make sure to lower the burn speed with apple's disc utilities / toast to 2x or lower.
For troubleshooting and while on this forum please use only Verbatim / Maxell.
Hope this helps but if not come on back.

  • Execute import is greyed out

    Hi ,
Why I am not able to execute import functions from Import Manager . This command is greyed out for me .I am trying to load an hierarchical data sets from a text file .
Can someone pls suggest to solve this out .
    regards,
    Amit

    Hi Amit,
If u are importing a hierarchy then there are certain check outs u need to follow.
    <b>step 1:</b>
First if u are declaring a field as a look up u need not mention the fields inside the look up table which are included as the childs of the root node declared as the look up.
    <b>step2:</b>
U need to either split the field containing the values or combine them<i>(constitute a hierarchy)</i> as depending on the source .
    <b>step3:</b>
Doing this just split the field selecting the option <u>split into hierarchy</u>.set the split delimiter as per the source.
    <b>step4:</b>
Note here that the new field that is created have to be named differently.Map the field(new) tyo the field in the destination side.
    <b>step5:</b>
Doing this just click the Node  expander on the source side select all the siblings under the root node and select the option <i>add as child</i>.the values (tree) will be duplicated on the destination side with the leaf nodes mapped.
Note:Only leaf values have to be mapped.
Reward me with points if u find this blog helpful.

  • Lost imported photos

I imported photos from my Canon into iPhoto.  Everything worked fine - was able to see my pictures and even watch a movie.  However, when I wanted to send a picture by e-mail I found that my internet connection was down - after being unable to bring it back, I restarted the computer.  When I logged back in and restarted iPhotos, it asked me to upgrade my library (didn't really give me any other option).  So I did.  When it finished - there were no pictures in the library anymore.  I've tried to rebuild.  I've looked in the iPhoto library for the originals.  All to no avail.  Cannot find the pictures anywhere.  I even tried to look in my back up - but could not find anything in the most recent backup using time machine.
    Any thoughts?

    1. You can't drag pics to a Folders in the iPhoto Window. Folderc can contain other folders or Albums they cannot contain photos that are not i albums.
but later, without the memory card in the reader, they had vanished!
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A +Managed library+, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing
A +Referenced Library+ is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
Why does iPhoto permit importing of photos into folders if it isn't going to preserve them? Where have they gone?
You cannot import to Folders, only to Events.
