Upload FCP Projects and Associated Media to a Production

Hi,
This sounds very silly but I`m really disappointed and can`t figured out how to do it.
Is there a way to upload a *.fcp project and associate NOT ONLY the project but ALSO the Media that this project contains?
In other words, if I upload a FCP project and choose a Production to be associated the production is created but ONLY the FCP Project Asset is inside this production, not the whole medias.
A scan production (for the FCP file) also doesn`t work.
What works is uploading all media and associating to a production or do a Scan production into a directory with medias. But my FCP and Medias are in distinct places and a thought that FCP project could help me cleaning the Media directories (by uploading the project and after all medias are catalogued archiving them, so the rest in directories are useless).
The work around would be:
1- to do a Scan Production in the Media files and after that uploading a FCP project associating with that Production, but as I`ve said I can`t just scan the entire Media as it`s very messy and with this way I could be guaranteed that my important assets are catalogued (and archived) and the left ones in the messy directories could be quick filtered to exclusion and cleaning without worries.
2- to upload a FCP and associate to a production and after that manually move fcp associated assets to this production (this almost impossible because the limitation of 200 assets per page).
Can some one propose a better way?
Regards

No, you are correct, but unfortunately these are Elements (inside the FCP project) and not real Assets. So for instance, if you fill in the annotations on the Asset it will not show on the Elements (inside FCP projects) and vice-versa. You can`t do a lot of other things as well with elements as you can with assets.
So I would like to have a Production with all media created automatically when a FCP project is uploaded (or scanned).

  • Cannot read version 4 fcp project and associated files with the new 5.1.2

I cannot read my fcp 4 version projects and associated files with the new 5.1.2 fcp.
    Please help!

I bought the Final Cut 5 studio to use for my company but I have project files from version 4, which I would like to update. My G5 is running Tiger and Final Cut recognizes the old files as Final Cut Documents (the media is already on the G5) but will not open them or their associated quicktime files. I have no problem loading version4 to export the Masters but I would like to be able to upgrade the project files so that I can use them in my addition Studio Pro applications and touch them up in Shake. Also, I don't want to go and find FCP4 on the internet because it may have other problems.
    What do you suggest?
Can FCP4 files be updated to version 5.1.2?
Can I get a back dated version of FCP4 through Apple?
    Thanks for your time.

  • Export FCP project and linked media assets

Sorry everyone, I know this is an easy question but I have searched for the answer and am still very confused.  I want to save my FCP project and just the appropriate used media assets in one place so I can send a condensed version of my entire project to someone to further edit.  I know there is an easy way to do this because I have done this before, but I can't remember.
I was confused because I found a number of answers but some of them talked about how afterwards the media files will no longer be able to be tracked by the Final Cut Server?  This is what scared me.

Use FCP's Media Manager to duplicate the project media.  Be sure to include handles if needed.

  • How do I move projects and associated media to new Library?

I have accidentally made 3 little test projects in an "old" Library containing numerous long projects.
I now want to move the test projects and their media to a new Library specifically for them.
    How?

Drag the project over the desired library and before you release the mouse button hold down the command key.
You should see the green ball with the plus sign disappear. After you release, you'll be presented with a confirmation dialog.
Apparently, there is a bug in that that dialog always calls the destination library "Final Cut Pro", but that seems to be an oversight without other consequences.

  • Deleting Projects and associated media

    Hi All:
What is the best way to delete projects in FCP?
Is there a way to delete all the related media, specially the one in Capture Scratch, Render files, Autosave, Waveform Caches, etc etc. Right now I am doing it manually. I would love for a feature that would delete all the media associated with a project?
    Thanks
    AN

another method not often used is to select all your project media from within the project tab in the FCP browser window, then right-click and choose Make Offline ... and in the dialog chose "Delete from disc"
that will trash everything no matter where you had stored it.
then you can go to the render manager and trash all the renders for that particular project too
so you can clean up a lot from directly within FCP

  • How do I put a FCP project and all it's P2 card files onto a different hardrive?

I have a large project that I will not be working on for some time.  I want to transfer all the files and project to a different drive, what is the best way to do this?  I have studied media manager but am not quite sure if i understand it completely. Any help would be appreciated.
    Catherine

Thanks this is all clear now and thanks for heads up on stills.
A more pressing problem.... I have a 2 T backup hardrive. recently giving a message that it is full.
I have a lot of HD P2 footage on my  internal hardrives, but when I "get info" on each of my two drives that hold my FCP projects and i photo, it only adds up to 1 Terbyte.
I went into time machine to delete old backups to Jan. 2012. and it deleted everything up until the day of deleting, not what I wanted.
There is some error ocurring...obviously brought on by me not having a full knowledge of the time machine sysytem, although it seems on tutorials to be supremely straight forward and simple.
I would like to delete all back ups and start from scratch in an effort to solve the " my machine is backing up all day long syndrome." Can you offer any advice or trouble shooting info on this problem.
I did read that if time machine detects a problem or error it will sometimes make a new "complete" back up of all content rather than just add changes on content.
    Any insites would be welcome.

  • Is there a way to save project and all media for easy opening on another machine?

So is there any way of instead of just saving the project and your computer locates the media, can you easily save a project and all the media in like a zipped folder so you can open on another machine?

  • Export to FCP Project and have 4+ channels of audio

I am trying to export my FCP projects for archive and maintain each track of audio as an independent track once it is converted to Quicktime format.
The process I have been using is as follows: FILE>EXPORT>QUICKTIME MOVIE... but it is just mixing everything down to two channels...
Does anyone know how to export and maintain each channel of audio, creating a QuickTime movie that had 4+ channels of audio.

    Hi -
    For FCP 7:
    Click on your timeline.
Type Command - 0 (Zero) and click on the Audio Outputs Tab.
Change the number of outputs you want, and set the track pairs up as stereo or dual mono, as you want.
Click OK, a warning dialog box will come up that you can dismiss.
On the timeline, Option-Click on each audio track right below the auto-select toggle icon, and from the drop down menu, route the track to the desired output track.
When done, export the Quicktime movie.
The only way you will verify that all the tracks are there is to either open the exported quicktime in Quicktime pro and menu Window > Show Movie Properties. You'll see the additional tracks listed there -OR- just import the exported movie back into FCP and bring it up in the Viewer, you'll see all the audio tracks.
Make sure you restore your sequence back to two channel ouput, if you want, when you are done.
    Hope this helps.

  • Best locations for FCP Projects and Events?

Back in the olden days when FCE 4 and FCP 7 ruled the roost, it was generally considered that the best setup was to have the Project files on the System HD and the Capture Scratch (Events) on another.
Is this still the ideal setup or should the Projects be kept with the Events on an external HD?
Are there any advantages associated with the various configurations?

  • Lose all authorised computers and associated media while keeping the rest

    Hello all,
    Disclaimer:
I'd assume this question has been asked and answered countless times over, but my Google fu is weak and only led me to posts where people were trying to restore backups or create one in the first place. Sorry for the repeat if I've missed an obvious answer elsewhere.
    Scenario:
I've owned a string of iPod Touches over the years and used these with a string of computers. I eventually reached my limit of 5 authorised machines. In any case, all the Touches are broken or in some way defunct now. Recently, I finally got an iPhone. When I first plugged this into my home media computer (the one remaining of the 5 authorised machine, 2 of the others having bricked, the other 2 beiung ex-work-machines), it gave me the opportunity to restore my saved backup. At this point I should have thought ahead and said no, but I didn't. Since then I've painstakingly built up my voluminous contact list, authorised and configured my new telephony contract, etc.
    Problem:
The home media machine I backed up from just happens to be the family's music hub, but is in regular use by a family member. I want to authorise my personal and work machines, but would have to restore to do so. The question is, can I do so in such a way as to keep all my contacts, telephony settings, WiFi preferences, and email accounts? The inconvenience of losing the media I uploaded from various machines is utterly trivial, but ultimately this is the only thing I believe I should have to sacrifice from this over-laboured method for, essentially, de-authorising previously authorised machines remotely.
So: is a restore going to wipe everything, leaving me to manually re-establish all the non-media customisations, and if so are there more purpose-designed methods whereby I can simply de-authorise the machines I no longer have access to?
    Thanks for your time,

  • Moving projects and imported media from computer to EHD

    Hello all
I have just recently finished a project in  FCPX and all the media is stored on my Macs hard drive. I am wanting to move this project to my EHD, so its not taking up so much space on my computers HD. But in doing so i also want to be able to go back and edit the project at anytime. Can anyone help me out on how to move everything over. I tried to copy the project folder itself but says that the file volume is to small to copy over.
    Thanks

    Tom,
When I duplicate the project to a properly formatted EHD as you have suggested, fcpx accurately creates duplicate event and project files on the EHD, however it also creates an exact duplicate event in the event library i.e. with the identical name and contents as ther original - 2 exact event files.  Is this normal?

  • What is the BEST WAY TO ARCHIVE OLD PROJECTS and related media?

    Hi,
I've been running a Wedding Film-making business for the last 12 months full-time. In that time I've acquired about 4TB of Hard Drive space, but as I get more work coming in the door I'm starting to need to get rid of old Weddings and Corporates I've shot.
In the past - ie. at my old employers - I've archived the tapes in a storage room, and deleted all the captured footage. Then I'd burn the project file to a DVD or BLU-RAY depending on the job.
Now that everything is Digital, is there a good way to archive the footage without buying a million TB's of Hard Drive space (then considering keeping multiple copies for safety)???
I'm not concerned about needing to return to make changes to the projects at a later stage - these Weddings are locked and will never be changed.
Any help, suggestions, or an example of what you do would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Thomas

Well that depends, if you only keep the exported copy and not the raw footage then if someone request some sort of edit change you'd be screwed if you didn't keep all the raw footage and simply kept the exported copy. However if you know that they aren't going to request some sort of change or you let them know up front they won't be able to make anymore changes after a certian point.(For exampel after you give the finished product and it's been approved by them) you can save TONS of space by simply only archiving the exported copy for them incase they need to make them another copy for some reason.
Where I work we always backup EVERYTHING, because we have had clients call back and request raw footage (meaning un-edited footage) almost 2 years after they filmed before. So if  this happens to you will probably be happy you didn't keep only a exported edited copy and that you held on to all your source media. So really unless you're just 100 percent positive that this won't ever happen or it just hasn't happened to you as of yet then you can just export the project from premiere and keep only that.
Blu-rays are a good backup option overall and like you mentioned for the amount of space you're currently using it won't be very expensive to just use hard disk. Just remember that you'll need to hook the HD's up at least 1 time per month. The reason is that it's good for them to spin every once in awhile. However in all honesty if you go with a RAID 1 setup or just simply buy two disk you won't run into to many occaisions where both disk fail at once... It hasn't ever happned to me at my job or in my personal business.
One option though that in some ways would give you the best of both worlds would be to use the project mananger feature in Premiere to save everything that is in your timeline to a project folder. (It basically saves all your footage that's in your time-line. It excludes un-used things from the bin unelss you say different) Anyways it will save you space in the end while still saving the entire project to a single folder of your chosing. Then you could export your finished program from Premiere and then burn your disc from the finished file you got and only backup your finished file to say a blu-ray disc and then backup your finished file and your saved project to your hard disc you have to archive stuff on. What used to be 150GB would now probably only be like 25-40GB max. But like I said if someone requested a major change and not something minor you'd be out in the cold... I don't use encore much though so someone else would have to answer your question about backing up a encore project... But I'd assume if you had the backed up premiere exported digital file you could just import it into encore and be ready to roll so you wouldn't really need to backup the encore project unless you make a crazy cool customized menu or something. Then if someone needed only a minor change such as graphics or something you could use your backed up project folder from premiere to make the change and then send it to encore to re-export the product with the requested minor changes.
It all really comes down to what you want to do. I'd recommend at the very least you backup your premiere project the way I described and also save the exported copy of your final project.

  • Why does my project and imported media in browser missing frames?

    Hello!!!
I have been using Final Cut Pro for about 6 months now and loved everything about it! However, since I have updated my software system and app itself I have been experiencing "missing frames" during playback and in the clip itself in my event browser. I have tried downloading Preference Manager to resolve the problem and it still doesnt help. What is the problem? Why does this happen? and what can I do? Is it an import setting? or maybe a recording setting on my camera.
Please a solution would be greatly appreciated as I have deadlines to make and I can't fluently edit my projects.
Additional info: when I export a file that misses frames during playback it is smooth and nothing seems wrong.
    Thanks guys!!!

    Some things to check:
Your media drive should have 15-20% free space. Does it after your clean up?
What kind of connection…Thunderbolt and USB3?
Is quality set to Better Performance?
If the answers to all of the above are yes, and you're still having problems, download and run one of the speed tests from ALA or Blackmagic.
Create proxy media and edit with Proxy, (Don't forget to change the setting back to Original/Optimized before you export.)

  • Moving projects and associated files around, Possible?

I was asked to work on a project for a add agency directly from their office, now the projects where saved on the boot up drive, it barely has space, i want to move the files unto a external drive but inside a proper folder structure i can understand, seems like FCP so far only saves files on a chosen scratch disk, is there a way to save the files on a disk and inside a folder?

Sure.  You can simply select a project in the Project Library area and choose File menu > Move Project, or File menu > Duplicate Project, depending on your specific needs.

  • FCP X and Importing Media problems

I currently have the Macbook Pro Retina (running Mountain Lion), A Sony HDR-PJ10e Camcorder and Final Cut Pro X and am having increasing problems trying to import the video shot on the camcorder.
Prior to installing ML, the camcorder would be recognised within FCP, but refused to recognise any of the footage, indeed if I tried to import the MTS files direct, they are greyed out which I have previously read is a known issue of sorts and that only import from camera can be used (but is not working in this case)
I have tried encoding the MTS files using Adobe Media Encoder, i have tried various formats but the only only that FCP will recognise is quicktime MOV files.
What can possibly be causing this problem?
I should add that the footage is shot in 1080p, but even down converted to an MPEG2 file (be that .mpg or the split .m2v and wav files) FCP still refuses to recognize these as a valid format as they are greyed out when trying to "import files"
Any help would be appreciated but I have to confess to being a relative novice to all things mac.

Prior to upgrading to ML, the camcorder was recognised but refused to import anything using the method you describe (I already tried that).  I was able to make an archive from the camcorder but it will not even open that archive to iport anything.
Unfortunately, since the upgrade to ML when the camcorder connects to the computer, the PMB software crashes.  The camcorder is still available in Finder after pmb has crashed, but it is no longer recognised in FCP as it was prior to the upgrade to ML.
The camcorder has internal memory and the ability to use a card, but everything is currently stored on the internal memory, everything is in the exact same format, frame rates etc...
