Upload from Panasonic DMC-TZ3

Brand new IMac owner. I am trying to upload photos from my Panasonic DMC-TZ3 digital camera through USB. My IMac didn't like it, just spins the little color wheel. Can anyone help a newbie?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Some things to try:
Make sure your camera is set to Mass Storage, which is the protocol used to connect to Macs
Have you tried putting the camera card into a USB Card Reader?

  • Import from Panasonic DMC-FZ28 Lumix

Trying to import from Panasonic DMC-FZ28 Lumix but the only import option is the
in-built camera on my MPB (10.5.7).
I can see the camera in the Finder window and can click on various photos.
When the camera was connected to the USB port and select the setting as PC Connection.
Is there something else I need to do in order for iMovie to see this camera ?
    Thank you,
    Jay

If you are using iPhoto, import the photos into iPhoto. Then, in iMovie, start a new Project and name it (or open and old project). Open the Photo Browser in iMovie, and drag the photos in from there.
If you are not using iPhoto, drag the jpegs from your camera to a folder in the Finder.
Open iMovie. Start a new project and name it (or open and old project). Drag and drop the photos from the Finder window into your project.

  • Importing to LR3.3 from Panasonic DMC-ZS3

Sorry if this has been addressed. I couldn't find anything about it.
    Windows 7 Pro, 64bit, LR3.3, 2-SanDisk 2gb cards, RAW USB 2.0 UDMA reader
Ever  since upgrading to LR3.3 I have not been able to Import files (jpg)  from my wifes SD cards straight to LR. Her camera is a Panasonic  DMC-ZS3. Prior to LR 3.3, ie; 3.0 it worked fine. I can copy via  explorer to the hard drive then Import them to LR 3.3 without a problem.  OK, there is a problem. I use LR's automatic folder destination creator  by date taken, on import. It takes too much time to create all these  folders using explorer.
The Import report says the files  were not imported because they could not be read but reads them fine  from my hard drive. It reads and imports the files from my Nikon (CF  card) fine also.
Any ideas why LR 3.3 does not like these files anymore.
    Jim

    Jim,
Bad card readers and/or USB connections (cables, ports, hubs) are known to cause issues like yours. Somehow, LR seems to be more affected by these problems than the O/S tools.

You could copy the files into ONE temporary folder via Explorer, and still use Copy/Move and LR's automatic folder creation by date.

  • Cant import using Log and Transfer to FCE 4.0.1 from Panasonic DMC-TZ10

Does anyone know if/how I can import into FCE 4.0.1 using Log and Transfer? I use Log and Transfer with my Sony HDR XR200VE Video Camera but when I try this with the Panasonic DMC-TZ10 I can play the clips in the Log and Transfer Clip viewer however they don't import after I add them to the queue. It just gives me an ! icon and gives up.
I guess I need to know if there is a combination of camera settings and Codecs I can choose that will allow me to successfully import into FCE 4.0.1 using Log and Transfer.
The settings I can choose on the DMC-TZ10 camera are the Rec Mode (Either AVCHD Lite (GPS Rec), AVCHD Lite, or Motion JPEG) and the Rec Quality SH, H or L).
iPhoto 09 and iMovie 09 will automatically import video from this camera if I choose Motion JPEG and H on the DMC-TZ10

Log and transfer only supports AVCHD. It does not support AVCHD Lite, nor will it work with Motion JPEG media. You could use third party software to convert it, or iMovie and then export a QuickTime movie from there in the correct codec and format.

  • Unable to download photos from Panasonic DMC-ZS19 to IPad

I have a first generation IPad and I am unable to download photos from my Panasonic DMC-ZS19.  I have tried the USB and the card reader but the IPad does not recognize either.  It was successful using the USB with my desktop but I am going on a trip and want to use the IPad to download to.  I am using the original Photo app.  Do I need to upgrade to another app?  Any suggestions would be helpful.

Have you tried a different card or card reader or USB port? Or is the camera directly connected with a cable?
Testing with a different card would check if there is an unreadable file on the card (video image) or if there is a general problem with reading files from that camera.

  • Import from Panasonic DMC-LX3, only RAW files being imported not JPGs

    Hi,
is there a workaround for the following Aperture import transfer behaviour:
I have set my Panasonic DMC-LX3 to produce Raw (for CS4) and Jpg images with every shot.
However, when I import the SD card, Aperture only imports the .RW2 files (which are of course not supported as the DMC-LX3 is not compatible).
When I separate the RW2 files from the JPGs with two different folders on the SD card, then Aperture is able to transfer the JPGs.
    Any workaround?
    Thanks
    Christoph

The JPEGs are there; they're just not used by default. To use them, use the "New version from master JPEG" menu item.

  • Error Communicating with Camera- Upload from Panasonic to iMovie

I am trying to upload the footage from my video camera, a Panasonic PV-GS320. I connected the firewire, and I open iMovie, but all that happens is that there is blue screen and in the middle it says "Error Communicating with Camera".
I thought maybe the camera had to be off, so I turned it off and the screen changed to say "Camera disconected or off". When I turned the camera back on, it gave me the "Error Communicating with Camera" message.
My dad was able to upload footage onto his laptop the exact same way I'm uploading into my mac.
Maybe I'm doing something completely wrong. I just want it to upload smoothly. Can someone help?

    Hi
Testing Camera and Cable is important - very common origin to problems.
    Especially the Cable (fortunately)
I had a serious accident some Years ago. FW-connector on the back of that Mac
and I plugging in the FW-connector 180 deg wrong. Shouldn't go but sorry
to say did and without a gigant of effort.
Result: Killing two miniDV Cameras, one video bridge and one hard disk.
    Tricky:
    • Cameras behaved normally in all aspects except import/export to iMovie
    - blue screen reading Camera connected
That's why it is essential to know that it works OK on another Mac.
Here comes my list: Use it with care. No guarantie from my part - just sharing
    my thoughts.
    Capture/Import problems:
    a) File-Vault is on - turn it off
    b) don’t Daisy chain camcorder - external hard disk - Mac
    (except for some Canon-Cameras)
    c) Slow hard disk (fragmented: repair permissions, repair hard disk, use a faster hard disk)
    d) Something is occupying the CPU/System, like other programs, Internet etc.
    e) Bad RAM-chips
    f) drop outs on the miniDV-tape - make a camera to camera copy on a tape which You have previous recorded with a time code (dummy recording).
    g) FW-wire cable OK?
    h) Break in the time-code on the miniDV tape (make a camera to camera copy on a tape which is prerecorded with nothing/anything so that the tape has a time-code from beginning to the end)
    i) defective camera TRY IT ON ANOTHER MAC !
    j) remove bookmarks in iMovie project
    k) Do You have desktop pictures or screen-savers active? Try turning them off.
    l) Updating - OS has to be a clean install - not an update eg from X.3.x to X.4.x (no good)
OS X.4.0-2 needs a clean install to work (I use X.3.9)
    m) Updating QT and/or other updates (to 7 needs v6 to be cleaned out first)
QT v.7 needs a clean install to work (I use 6.5.2)
    n) Have you tried the crazy fix:
Open GarageBand, play a few notes, close it and reopen iMovie. The camera should import fine now. (Sue/SDillini)
    o) NEW (from Sue/SDillini):
    Trash the Font Collections Folder.
    These files are found:
    /YourUserName/Library/FontCollections folder.
Drag the folder to the trash and launch iMovie. iMovie will create a new FontCollections folder containing the files it needs when it next opens.
    p) or thrashing the com.apple.imovie.plist file (Rodney Brown2)
    q) - Other programs interfering like Flip4Mac
    r) - Third party or old plug-ins
May be You find some help in my list:
    Mac:
    • hardware
◊ Slow hard disk (fragmented: repair permissions, repair hard disk, use a faster hard disk)
◊ I wonder how full your Mac's hard disc is. (David Babsky) A near full hard disk prevents Import/Capture.
10% free is recommended + space for Import/Capture + work space (about 4 to
5 times the amount needed for Capture) eg on a 200Gb hard disk You need 20Gb + (one hour tape)
    13Gb + 50Gb = about 80 to 90Gb free space.
◊ Disconnect all other ext devices (FW and USB) exept Camera (and keyboard + mouse) and try again
◊ Rebuild Desktop (Tech-tool or fingersetting during start-up) (System up to 9)
◊ Reset PRAM (Tech-tool or keyboard finger settings alt-cmd-P-R ??)
◊ Reset PMU ( Restting the PMU...is the the alt-ctrl-shift and powerbutton shortcut? ) (Sue)
    PMU: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86760
PMU/SMU are essentially the same in the PM G5.
    ◊ Reset SMU
    SMU: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300341
    ◊ Bad RAM-chips
◊ disconnect Mac from powerline (not just switch off, really plug out) for a few minutes to reset FW ports
    • software
◊ File-Vault is on - turn it off
◊ Something is occupying the CPU/System, like other programs, Internet etc.
◊ Do You have desktop pictures or screen or energy-savers active? Try turning them off.
◊ Updating - OS has to be a clean install - not an update eg from X.3.x to X.4.x (no good) OS X.4.0-5 needs a clean install to work (I use X.3.9)
◊ Updating QT and/or other updates (to 7 needs v6 to be cleaned out first) QT v.7.0.0-4 needs a clean install to work (I use 6.5.2)
◊ Have you tried the crazy fix: Open GarageBand, play a few notes, close it and reopen iMovie. The camera should import fine now. Sue/SDillini
◊ Running iDVD at the same time as iMovie can cause problems: (Lennart Thelander)
◊ If You also have installed FinalCut Express/pro there are possibly problems with this
◊ Other programs that interferes like Flip4Mac
    ◊ Codecs added to QuickTime
◊ Old plug-ins to iMovie or third party alike
    iMovie:
◊ remove bookmarks in iMovie project
    ◊ Trash: com.apple.iMovie.plist and com.apple.iMovie3.plist : files (Xinram)
    Connection:
◊ don’t Daisy chain Camcorder <--> external hard disk <--> Mac
◊ FW-wire cable, is it OK?
    ◊ USB/USB2 is NO GO !
◊ Cheque FW connection at Camera end. OK? (Adam Smith1)
◊ Cheque FW connection at Mac end. OK?
    Camera:
◊ The Camera is set to VTR ? (not as when You ”film” record with it)
◊ You may be need to go to the Camera menu and select digital out.
◊ defective camera TRY IT ON ANOTHER MAC ! (if the A/D chip in the camera is harmed then it will say in iMovie that the camera is connected and You can forward resp. backward the tape but there will be no picture or sound just the blue screen).
◊ connect camera to power-line, not battery-only....(Karsten Schlüter)
◊ Canons don't allow daisychaining on firewire, make it "only device" on port (Karsten Schlüter)
◊ Cheque the menu on Your Camera so that it communicates with the FW digitally to Your Mac
◊ Date and Time is correct on Your Camera ?
    Tape:
◊ Drop outs on the miniDV-tape - make a camera to camera copy on a tape which You have previous recorded with a time code (dummy recording).
◊ Break in the time-code on the miniDV tape (make a camera to camera copy on a tape which is pre-recorded with nothing/anything so that the tape has a time-code from beginning to the end)
◊ If You recorded in LP-mode (90 min on a standard 60 min tape with 12-bit sound). Try to change in iMovie pref. to import but not as individual clips. If this doesn’t work You have to make a Camera to Camera copy with the receiving Camera set to SP-mode and 16-bit sound.

    NEWS: Jerry Harris writes:
I know that in a lot of the new Sony HD cameras, iMovie requires that you turn i.Link Conv off. I would look for a similar setting for your camera. This setting has to do with shooting a movie in one format, and using the camera to import as a different format. For instance, if you shoot HD footage and have i.Link conv on - the camera will send DV to the computer etc...
So, case in point: look for a setting on your camera that has to do with the video format and see if that helps.

  • How to import AVCHD from Panasonic DMC-FT1?

    Hello everybody,
I just tried to import AVCHD Lite media files from a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT1 (also known as DMC-TS1) using an USB card reader and the log and transfer function.
A preview of the media files works, even the sound is ok.
When I mark the video for import it tries to import it, but if I click on the clip its status becomes a red {!}. An offered retry gives the same result.
Sometimes, especially after a preview of the media file, the log and transfer function crashes the whole FCE application.
    Thank you for your help!
    Best regards,
    Florian

OK, I tried tried this. No direct success but after changing settings I will try again.
I don't know your camera nor its terminology, what's the frame size and frame rate and audio format and sample rate?
Sorry - the technical documentation is not very good. Here is what I found out:
    1,280 x 720 pixels, AVCHD Lite (SH: 17 Mbps / H: 13 Mbps / L: 9 Mbps):
[NTSC] 60p *CCD output is 30p (fps).
[PAL] 50p *CCD output is 25p (fps).
Since I live in Germany I've got a PAL model.

    Thanks for the links!
(None was about Panasonic, but lots about import problems like mine.)
Is the audio set to plain stereo in log and transfer?
Yes, I chose "simple stereo" instead of "matrix stereo".
Maybe this is important: The camera has only one microphone. And it has a feature called "Dolby Digital Creator".
    Did you empty the cache?
I remember something like that. I'll try again.
What drive are you ingesting to? How is it formatted?
It's an external USB 2.0 hard drive. It's formatted with Mac OS Extended (Case senstive and journaled)
    Do you have Perian installed?
    No.
It's very possible this doesn't work with FCE, but it might, so if you give us as much information as you can maybe we can see something that can be adjusted to make this work.
Thanks a lot for your effort!
I see you're using a Mac mini. What are the full specs of that? It's going to be very borderline for editing video and some things in the application will not work.
2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB RAM (3 GB usable)
Intel GMA 950 graphics using 64 MB RAM
    200 GB 7200rpm hard drive
1 TB USB 2.0 external hard drive
Looking at the simple configuration of FCE, none seems to really fit:
We have "AVCHD-Apple Intermediate Codec" but not with 1280x720.
We have "HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 720p25" but not with AVCHD.
And, of course, lots more. Which one should I choose?
    Thank you, again!
    Best regards,

  • HT4757 Preview rawfiles from Panasonic DMC-G3 in Lion 10.7.4

I used to preview my rawfiles from Canon and Panasonic. With Lion 10.7.4 I can only see the Canon files. With Panasonic I see only a small image and the text "Unix körbar fil". (Swedish) Photoshop and Lightroom are ok.

I also have the same problem with Lion 10.7.4. iPhoto will see the .rw2 files from my Lumix G3 but when asked to import I get the message 'Unreadable Files'. I have tried the recommendation that appears to work for some by copying the following command into Terminal :
    /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/Isregister –R /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Library
but that didnt work for me. I got the message "No such file or directory"
Apple Help in UK had no idea and Panasonic UK say it's an Apple software problem !
Any help / solution would be greatly appreciated.

  • Importing/uploading from panasonic p2 with FCP 4.5

Is there any way to import HD files shot on a panasonic p2 using the 8GB memory cards onto a laptop using Final Cut Pro 4.5?
Alternatively, if I just copy everything inside the card icon when it comes up on my desktop over to my hard drive, will I then have usable files I can then import later into a later version of FCP?
    Thanks for your help.

Not possible. P2 support didn't hit FCP until version 5.0.4. And Raylight will not work with that version. YOu need to upgrade.
What you need to do is copy EVERYTHING OFF THE CARD..the entire CONTENTS folder and LASTCLIP file. But those in a separate folder that you name what you please, but DO NOT rename the other files ANYTHING. And be sure you get both items....VERY important.
    P2 workflow for FCP 5.0.4
There is a tutorial you must watch.

Video's uploaded from Panasonic HDC-SDT750 play fine using mozilla's html5 format in 3D But uploading video's from my Sony HDR-TD30V only displays 3D in Red/Blue format. when I switch to HTML5 the first video I uploaded triggers my Nvidia stereo and displays the left/right frames too far apart. Original Raw video plays fine using MediaShow 6 . subsequent videos only play in Red/Blue or 2D with the video shrunk in size from top to bottom. Help! check out my playlist's

I think that's more a youtube or camera problem than a Firefox problem.
However, I recommend you to opt-out from HTML5 and try if Flash version works.
Remember too that 3D videos will only show if quality is set to maximum HD quality available, so set 1080p in YouTube, that would explain also why a camera works and why the other one doesn't, maybe they have different resolutions.

How do I open RAW files from a Panasonic DMC-GF5 camera using Elements 10 on my PC?  When I try to open a Raw file I get a message 'wrong type of file'

I believe you need ACR 7.1 which PSE10 cannot be updated to.
Use the DNG Converter to make DNGs from the RAW files and those should open in your older PSE version.
You can also buy a newer version of PSE.  Perhaps do a Trial (Try) of PSE12 and see if PSE13 comes out in the next week or so.
The DNG Converter can be found on this page:  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates
