Upload/Insert PDF with Image Manager

I used to be able to insert a PDF and MP3 file through the Image Manager within the Item Description area but for some time have not been able to. I had asked the question in the old forums to no resolve. I've tried multiple sites from multiple browsers on both Mac and Windows but same issue.
What I do:
1.) From within any webpage/web app item description text area, I click on the Image Manager icon (little picture with sun and mtn. in the toolbar above the text area) and the Image Manager opens up.
2.) Now the Image Manager DOES allow me to upload both PDF and MP3 files onto the server from here (which is good). Then I go to the list and find the file on the server, I'll select the file and then click on "Insert" but the Image Manager just closes and nothing is inserted into the Item Description area.
This had worked for many years and like I said I can't get it to work in any testing scenerio. Same issue everytime when inserting, nothing gets inserted. The only alternative is manually inserted the href into the HTML but several of my clients have difficulty with this and it used to work before.
I know it's been stated that the Literature/Media Module is how you handle files but this is way more cumbersome then it should be and the way I and my clients used to do it through the Image Manager worked great. Any help or clarification would be great. I can't even find if this is a feature done away with. Thank you for the help.

Tersieff,
I know you mentioned it had worked for your over the years. However I would recommend using the either the file manager or better the media downloads to upload and manage your media files. I see that it would come in handy to be able to select the file through the image manager, but I don't think it's working for media files other than images. Using the media downloads you will be able to provide a download link to this file, the downside is that you will have to manually enter the module for each media download within the item description.

I am having a similar and more serious problem. It takes a
long time to execute, but even attaching a small image balloons the
pdf to 6MB plus. After a few images it gets up to 20MB. These are
100k jpeg files being attached. The resulting PDF is too large to
email or process effectively. Does anyone know how to reduce
    size/processing?

  • Apex 3.0 PDF with Images

    Hi,
i would like to integrate my company-logo inside the pdf report.
is there a chance to do this ?
    Thanks in advance
    Marco

    Marco,
You can do that when using RTF based report layouts. This requires BI Publisher. Once that's configured, and "Advanced" support for PDF Printing is enabled (in the instance settings), you can create RTF report layouts using the BI Publisher Word template builder and include images in that RTF file. Here's a link to the BI Publisher site on OTN where you will find more info on the Word template builder:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/applications/publishing/index.html
The steps in APEX to set this up would be:
    - go to shared components / report queries
    - click create
    - enter your query
    - step forward until you reach the page that lets you download your report in XML
    - load that XML file into the Word template builder
    - design you report layout incl. image
    - save as RTF and upload the file into APEX (on that same page where you downloaded the XML)
    - finish the wizard
    - use the URL shown to integrate with your application, e.g. use the link as the target for a button
    Hope this helps, viel Erfolg,
    Marc

  • Insert PDF with Flash into another PDF and it does not display.

When attempting to insert an Adobe Acrobat file with flash elements into another Adobe Acrobat file, the latter will not display the file on screen. Instead it shows this message "For the best experience, open this PDF portfolio in Acrobat X or Adobe Reader X, or later." Please help.

Yes I would have thought so. Adobe Acrobat and Reader have the ability to view flash content items however this is not the case. I will explain step by step what I am doing. I have done this for years before and I have recently formatted my computer and had to reinstall the software.
Here is a little background information:
    System:
    Windows 7 Professional 64bit
    AMD-FX 4100 Quad Core CPU
    8GB RAM
    250GB free on HDD
    Software Installed:
    Adobe Acrobat X Pro
    Adobe Reader XI
    Adobe Flash 17.0.0.134
Microsoft Office Home and Business 2010
    Steps taken:
    Open Outlook
    Select a few messages
Click on Convert to Adobe PDF
    Save the new file "toInsert.pdf"
    Open "main.pdf" file
Click and drag "toInsert.pdf" file from desktop into the thumbnail area of the "main.pdf" file to insert.
Attached Error. Please advise. Thank you.

  • I can't sign PDFs with images

    Hello everyone,
I'm on a Mac OSX 10.8.5 and I am trying to follow these instructions: AMS Financial Aid Forms by Rachael Arestad on Prezi using Adobe Reader 11.0.10. However, there are a couple problems that come up.
    1) I can't print the PDF as a PDF like the tutorial wants me to, I can only save. Why it wants me to print as PDF is beyond me.
    2) If I try to add an image as a signature, Reader tells me to save a copy. Okay so I click save a copy, and I try again... and it tells me to save another copy! (ad infinitum)
What's happening here? Sorry if I come off as snarky, but this is a surreal and frustrating problem.

The author of the piece was, frankly, misinformed.
    1. They say use Adobe Acrobat Reader. It hasn't been called that in over 10 years. It's Adobe Reader now. But this isn't important. But I mention it because the names of products are critical here.
    2. They say to use the "Adobe PDF" printer. But this is not and never has been part of the free Adobe Reader. It is included in the product Adobe Acrobat ($$).
    3. This option is no longer available on Mac OS even if you buy Acrobat.
Now, the save a copy thing. If you save a copy, you must save with a new name. THEN you must close the document you are working on and OPEN THE COPY.

  • I need to upload a pdf with more than 500 fields, but not all need to be registered.

We are working on a pdf to send to our customers. The form has more than 500 fields but we only need to register some of them, the other fields will be filled in the pdf, saved and sent bak to us. Is there any way to do that?
    Thanks in advance.

I am sorry but there is no way to designate some fields for online collection and others not.

  • Image Manager doesn't upload images (anymore)

    Hi All,
We have recently upgraded our VC install from SP16 to SP17. Prior to this, the image manager uploaded images fine - small gifs for use in traffic lights. Following the upgrade to SP17, the upload button on the image manager appears to do nothing. I get no error, no warning and no entry in the image manager list.
Note This did work in the past. I can still see ones I've done about a month ago.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers
    Richard

    Hi
Have you tried with any other format like, 'jpg or jepg'? or its not working for any format?

  • PDF Printing with images

    Hello all-
I was wondering if it is possible to create a PDF document with images from a report that has images, through the FOP. I have tried this on APEX 3.2.1 and APEX 4.0.1, but with no success. I installed FOP in a standalone OC4J that I have installed on my PC and this works fine. I am using the Demonstration Application to test creating the PDF with images by trying to print page 23 - it is a report with images. I get a PDF report, but the image column is blank - no image, no errors. Has anyone been able to accomplish this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Greg

    Hi,
yes you can, this tool allows you to create FOP templates with images (look at the examples)
    http://www.java4less.com/fopdesigner/fodesigner.php?info=guide
You can of course create your own FOP templates without this tool, there is a XSL-FO tag to do that, you must make sure the images are available to the print server, either by referencing images on the file system or deploying the images in the print server.
