  • Hard drive died, want to upload music from iPod

my hard drive died a nasty death a few weeks ago and so far, no one has been able to recover any data. (Yes, I am one of those fools who hadn't backed up.)
I have a new (blank) hard drive installed now. My iPod has all my music, audiobooks, and photos on it. Is there any way to use the iPod to upload that data onto my new hard drive? When I plug it in, it gives me a message saying that an iPod can only be synced to one iTunes at a time, and do I want to erase (clearly not), or transfer purchases.
The problem is, only a small portion of my music are purchased. The rest have been copied from my old CDs. How can I transfer those songs/playlists to my new hard drive?
And likewise with the photos. In fact, I realize this is really two questions: 1) how do I transfer music and 2) how do I transfer photos? In both cases, I want to use the iPod to overwrite the new (blank) iTunes and iPhoto.
Since my iPod contains the only copies of my music and photos I have left, I really don't want to do anything wrong that might erase them. Help!

  • Upload music from ipod to laptop?

i got my ipod and loaded all of my music from my desktop onto it with no problems. however, i received a laptop as a graduation present and i'm trying to find a way to transfer my music from my ipod to itunes on my laptop. is this even possible? if not, do i have any other options?
      Windows XP

    Check out the instructions/suggestions here.
    Music from iPod to computer.
There's also another method. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), there's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.

  • How to move music from Ipod to Windows 8

I am having difficulty putting my music from my IPod 4G to Windows 8. I have both Xbox music and iTunes and neither one will recognize the music on the iPod. When I connect the iPod, I can play the music, but I cannot find a way to transfer it to my computer. I have tried syncing and that doesn't do it either. I tried copying to SD card and still  no luck getting it to open on computer. HELP please, I have a feeling that it may be because the iPod is older and the computer is new and they don't mix well.

There are apps around like Sync-iOS, Copytrans, Winamp, ...
It's just not strictly legal. iTunes had this function like ten years ago, but they had to remove it. The angry music industry thought music would be illegaly shared between friends too easily...

  • How to play music from iPod through Windows Media Player

I don't want to insult anyone's intelligence .... but just in case anyone hasn't yet figured it out, here's how to play music from your iPod on a computer that does not have iTunes installed:
On your computer, connect the iPod to iTunes and click on it's name. Then under the general tab, check "allow disk use". Your iPod will then act as a USB hard drive and will then show up as a drive in My Computer. Now all you need to do is to create a Music folder on it and then copy all your music to it!
Your iPod's USB hard drive should show up under My Computer on most Windows computers. Therefore providing the computer has Windows Media Player installed, you will be able to play all your music on it! This saves you having to bother with portable/travel speakers, some of which sound terrible anyway!

  • Can I upload music from iPod to iTunes? My music has disappeared from my iTunes account, but still have it on iPod.

Music on my iTunes account has disappeared, but still have it on my older iPod; want to upload it to iTunes, but when I hook up to computer, iTunes wants to overwrite the iPod.  I fear I'll lose it all.  Any help?

    Hey blite923,
Thanks for the question. If these are purchased songs, you can transfer purchases from your iPod to your computer without syncing:
Re-download or transfer your iTunes Store purchases from an iPhone, iPad or iPod to a computer - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT1848
Transfer your purchases to your computer
Before you transfer your purchases, make sure that your computer is authorized with the same Apple ID account you used to make the purchases. Learn how to authorize your computer using iTunes.
If you bought the iTunes Store content on your device using multiple Apple ID accounts, you'll need to authorize the computer for each one.
To transfer purchases from your device to a computer:
Connect your device to the computer. Wait for its icon to appear in iTunes.
Go to File > Devices. If you're using iTunes for Windows and can't see the menu bar, learn how to turn on iTunes menus in Windows.
Choose Transfer Purchases from [device name].
This feature works only for content bought from the iTunes Store. Any items that you imported from audio CDs or received from other sources won't copy from your device to the iTunes library. However, all podcasts from your device's Podcasts app and copies of all PDFs and books from your device's iBooks app will transfer to the computer. Learn how to transfer media to your iTunes library.
    Thanks,

  • Problem uploading music from iPod to iTunes...please help!!

    Dear All,
I originally had all my music on iTunes on a laptop and I quite happily ripped new CDs onto my laptop and updated my iPod from time to time. Then the lap top disappeared and I got a new desk top PC. I thought it would be a simple job to transfer all my music (now only stored on my iPod) to the new desktop. However, the version of iTunes on my new computer says it recognises the iPod when I plug in it in the USB drive, but that I should load the original software CD or get software updates from the Apple site -none of which I can find!
If anyone could shed any light on this situation I would be eternally grateful as I would like to get my library back in iTunes on my desktop and put new music on my iPod. All suggestions gratefully reveived!
    Becka.

The easiest way to get your tracks from your iPod to your new computer (since the old one is no longer available) will be to search VersionTracker for "iPod". You'll find a number of utilities that can transfer your tracks and your playlists from your iPod back to your PC.
It's also possible to do this manually, but the procedure is rather involved. If you're interested, though, see this thread:
    MacMuse: Computer crashed
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Discussions page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic before you post a question.
    Regards.

  • How do I Move Music from iPod Nano(2nd Gen) to Computer with Windows Vista?

I just got a new computer due to my old computer crashing so I'd like to transfer my music from my iPod Nano 2nd Generation to my new computer so I'll have a backup. I followed the directions listed below but they didn't work. Is it possible that it didn't work because I'm using Windows Vista? Is there anything else I can try?
    1 - Open iTunes
    2 - Edit=>Preferences=>’Advanced/General’ tab
2a --- Select ‘Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library’: checked
2b --- Select ‘Keep iTunes Music folder organized’: checked
2c --- Click OK to store changes
3 - Attach your iPod to the PC and hold down the ‘Shift+Ctrl’ keys until the iPod is fully recognized (this will defeat the auto-sync process)
4 - If you get a dialog box to link the Library, decline this option
5 - Within iTunes: Edit=>Preferences=>’iPod’ tab: switch iPod to ‘Manually manage songs & playlists’ – click ‘OK’
    6 – Eject iPod
7 – Close iTunes, then reopen iTunes and attach the iPod (it’s in manual sync now)
    8 – File=>Add Folder
9 - Browse to and open ‘My Computer’ (click on the ‘+’) and select the iPod (or the lower ‘\iPod_Control’ sub-folder)
    10 - Click OK

All of the following programs should work with Vista.
Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.

  • Can my ipod download music from both a windows and mac based computer.

My son and I have new video ipods. He works on a Mac and I have a windows computer. He would like to load some music from my computer (windows) itune file onto his (Mac based) ipod. Can he do this? If so, how?

Not sure what you are saying. You can install and activate on 2 systems, but generally standalone installs have platform-specific serials and can only be installed eitehr on Windows or Mac, not both. However, your description seems to indicate a TLP volume license, so that would be possible.

  • How to transfer Music from iPod to Computer/Windows/Mac

I want to transfer iPod music to my mac, because iPod memory is not enought to use, whether I need a tool to help me to transfer music from iPod to my mac, because apple devices is not allowed to direct transfer music from ipod to mac, whether you have some good idea? Please help me!!!thanks!

1.The first thing you want to do is connect your iPod to your computer via the white USB cable.
2.After your iPod is connected, open My Computer, or just Computer from the start menu and look for the iPod drive. It should be in the (F:drive. You will see the iPod logo in the listing of disk drives.
3.If you are using Windows 7: Open the iPod drive and click on ORGANIZE. Then folder and search options tab. Then View and Show hidden files and folders.
If you are using Windows XP, open the iPod drive and click tools then Folder options then View tab then click show hidden files and folder. Finally click Apply.
4.Now you should have a new folder called ipod_control. Open that folder up and you should see the following: Calendar, Contacts, ipod_control, notes, photos, ect. If you are trying to save all of your music then the ipod_control folder is the only one you need to worry about.
5.Open the ipod_control folder then open the music folder. Copy each one of those folders (should look similar to these: F00, F01 ...) onto your computer. You can do this by creating a new folder on your desktop and dragging the files into the folder.
6.Open iTunes and insert the new folder you created on your computer's desktop into: library ---> Music
You can now transfer music from your iPod to this new computer with out losing all of your music.
    Hope it can help you.
