Upload/Refresh speed on Firefox 3.6.27 is sluggish on websites

On crowdSPRING, a design creation community, my upload speeds are significantly slower and sometimes get stuck. Refresh doesn't consistently solve this. I'm running Firefox 3.6.27.

Hello there.
You can download version 3.5.11 [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html here]. Apart from 3.6.8, 3.5.11 is the only currently supported version of Firefox. If you don't want to use the former, please use the later for maximum security.
That said, if you're having a problem with 3.6.8, it's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem does not disappear when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.

  • Limit upload bandwidth speed

    I'd like to limit my network traffic when uploading large files to host sites. Either by limiting my total upload speed, or preferably, by limiting the upload speed allowed by specific programs. In this case I would like to limit the upload speed of firefox to prevent it hogging all my bandwidth when uploading files to MegaUpload or Rapidshare.
    What is the best way to do this using Arch?
    I don't mind using config files and scripts if that's the way to go. But I'm also interested in any applications that people can recommend from the repos or AUR. A firefox extension might be even better if anyone knows of one to suit this situation. Something that would give me the ability to adjust upload/download speeds in a similar manner to when using a bittorrent client would be perfect. Kinda like this extension called Firefox Throttle (which is not available for linux):-

    It installed in firefox with no problems, that's a nice trick for trying out older extensions. But no bandwidth limits could be set & it's display did not show active upload/download. It basically didn't work at all.
    Probably depended on windows OS to gather the appropriate info.

  • Is there a way to speed up Firefox?

    Is there a way to speed up Firefox (I have the Fasterfox plug in)?
    It takes 85 sec. to open (vs. 13 for Camino) and 18 to open a new page (v. 4 for the same page with Camino).
    There are features and browser restrictions which favor Firefox; however, the wait offsets those benefits.
    G4 Dual 450 Mac OS X (10.3.9) 1 GB

    Hi, Jerry. On my Powerbook G4, with a 1GHz processor and half as much RAM as you have, FireFox 2.0.0.2 opens (to a blank page, which is what I prefer) in 5 seconds — slower than Safari, but nothing like what you're seeing. It loads most pages a little faster than Safari. I've never used FasterFox, and in light of what you report, I certainly won't try it. Maybe you should get rid of it too.
    What version of FireFox are you running? Have you emptied its cache lately? Is it possible that whatever you're using for a home page is what's wasting all that time when you start FireFox? You might try choosing another home page, or opening FF to a blank page as I do. You can't blame the app for being slow to load a page that's hosted on a slow server, if that's what's happening.

  • One file maximum for uploads with Safari, Opera, FireFox and Chrome to OneDive

    Some Windows 7 users have complained to they can only mark one file maximum for uploading with Safari, Opera, FireFox and Chrome to OneDive

    Hi,
    You mean that you access OneDrive via web browser?
    From my tests, everything is normal and it seems there is no setting in browser to configure this number.
    if I misunderstand this issue, please give us more information on it.

  • How do I speed up firefox. It loads very slow compaired to others

    Firefox is very slow to load and slow bringing up web sites. I have cleared all stored items, still very slow
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == After using the program for several months

    You can speed up Firefox by tweaking some of the '''about:config''' settings from within Firefox. Here is the [http://www.ehow.com/how_2033391_enable-pipelining-firefox.html link]

  • RDP traffic and upload/download speeds?

    I would monitor your bandwidth at both edge devices.
    RDP in my experience is typically more latency sensitive than bandwidth sensitive.
    Most Internet providers will push you more bandwidth but that will not help the time it takes the data to get back and fourth.
    If you are maxing you connection out in Houston than more bandwidth may be something to consider. Also depending on the cost of the Internet service upgrade.
    You may also look into filtering unwanted traffic from the Houston office. Such as Youtube or recently I found a receptionist watching Hulu.

    I'm having a difficult time understanding how upload/download speeds factor into RDP session speed. I have a company in Houston that hosts an RDS server that has a remote app that uses a local SQL server to get data from. We have a remote office in Dubai that accesses the RDS server to use this SQL app.
    In Houston we have 20/20 fiber. In Dubai they have 100/28 cable. The Dubai office complains about speed. The Houston office is thinking of upgrading to 40/40 connection. Will that help Dubai's user experience?

  • Adobe please, fix upload/download speed problems!

    Adobe please, before all, fix the upload/download speed issues when updating folios from the computer to the servers and from the servers to the Ipad. It has been so terrible lately.
    Thx!

    Or, better yet, focus on developing great software like you've been doing for years and leave the "cloud" stuff to others. I'd feel a lot better about DPS if I knew I could host it all myself.

  • Upload/Download speed of files using Java

    Hey All,
    I have created a signed Java applet which, among various other things, allows uploading and downloading of files between the server and client. Both Upload and Download is handled through HTTP. For Upload I create a multi-part POST request to transfer the data to a script on the server which intercepts it. For download I craft a URL to http://myserver.com/filedirectory/file.extension. From that I form a HttpURLConnection and read from the stream to the file system of the client. This applet is only run on an internal network, which currently has 100mbit connection. However, I am noticing upload/download speeds of less than 1MB/s (I believe 100mbit = 12MB/s approx). I am currently using a buffer size of 8kb.
    Can anyone think of any ways to increase download speed? Would it help to increase the buffer size, knowing we will always be on a closed network? Here Is my upload code, and my download is similar but in the opposite direction.
    int bytesRead = 0;
    byte b[] = new byte[BUFFER_SIZE];
    BufferedInputStream bufin =  new BufferedInputStream(new FileInputStream(f));
    while ((bytesRead = bufin.read(b)) != -1)  {
            * write output
         out.write(b, 0, bytesRead);
         out.flush();
    out.close();
    bufin.close();I have not included the rest of the code which creates the POST request because the upload is otherwise working perfectly despite the speed, and I have confined the bottleneck to this part using debug output.
    Thanks much

    Will removing the flush after every loop somehow decrease accuracy?No.
    Ideally, files should be the same exact size on the server as the client after upload has finished.Deferring the flush() can't change that. It just lets you write in larger chunks, which is always good.
    Which one is the socket receive buffer?The buffer whose size is set by Socket.setReceiveBufferSize().
    Currently the size of BUFFER_SIZE in the example above is set to 8k.That's the application buffer. Good size.

  • When I put a website Icon on my desktop, how do I make firefox use the Icon native to that website instead of the default Firefox Icon?

    When I drag and drop a website onto my desktop, how can I make Firefox use the icon native to that website instead of the default firefox icon?
    I have even gone painstakingly (SEVERAL TIMES) to the sites with IE, dragged the site onto my desktop in order to obtain the site native icons for my desktop (and deleted the ones with the Firefox icon) .... but they all soon revert to the default Firefox icon.
    E X T R E M E L Y F R U S T R A T I N G !!!!!!!!!

    I don't want icons from the Firefox library.
    I want the icon that comes from the website I'm making the shortcut for.
    (If you go to a site in IE you will see the site generated icon at the left end of the URL in the address field.)
    If I make IE my default browser I am able to get (and keep) those icons as shortcuts on my desktop without a problem.
    I want to keep Firefox as my default browser.
    So I want to know how to make Firefox accept the icon that comes from the website like IE does.
    I have even gone to the trouble to use IE to create the shortcuts with the site specific icons.....but after I do that...... FIREFOX CONVERTS THEM TO THE FIREFOX DEFAULT ICON as soon as I re-boot or refresh my desktop.
    I generally prefer Firefox as a browser....but If there's no fix.....I'm going to dump Firefox.

  • Firefox fails to respond when searching some websites

    example.Start a search in ebay. no problem until trying to scroll down a list of items or trying to open a listed item's information. Programme appears to lock up or not respond, hourglass is present for long periods of time, double click on blue bar at top of screen, presents a message "Firefox not responding" this happens all of the time on ebay and TPG internet sites, I do have some problem with Commonwealth securities, some tabs open as blank pages yet the same page on ASX site opens with information. all other sites visited appear normal.

    How to Stop Firefox plugin-container.exe Process?
    By TechnoGadge on July 15, 2010 at 6:30 am
    http://www.technogadge.com/how-to-stop-firefox-plugin-container-exe-process/
    Firefox 3.6.6 make browsing slow on your computer? If yes, it may be due to plugin-container.exe, which was added in recent version of Firefox to prevent browser crash. New version of Firefox web browser loads certain plugins in a separate process (plugin-container.exe) to provide you uninterrupted browsing even when certain plugins stops working. But the problem is, plugin-container.exe may use a lot of memory and slow down your computer. You may experience the problem more often while viewing online flash videos. So, want to disable or stop plugin-container.exe in Firefox 3.6.6? Follow these simple steps:
    SEE THE ATTACHED PICTURE WHICH WOULD BE HERE
    Steps to stop plugin-container.exe process:
    • Open Firefox web browser.
    • Type about:config in the address bar and press Enter key.
    • A warning will appear. Ignore it and press the "I’ll be careful, I promise!" button.
    • In the Filter field type dom.ipc. Six preferences will appear for the filter dom.ipc.
    • Ignore first and last preferences. Toggle (double-click) each of the four remaining preferences to change the value from "true" to "false".
    • That’s it. Look the screenshot.
    Explanation: The crash protection feature in Firefox 3.6 is enabled for certain plugins only. The four preferences that we modified here specifies four different out-of-process plugins. They are the the NPAPI test plugin, Adobe Flash, Apple QuickTime (Windows) and Microsoft Silverlight (Windows). These plugins are specified in a separate dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.<filename> preference by default is set to true. We can disable them by changing their value to false. And thus plugin-container.exe will not run. By default the preference dom.ipc.plugins.enabled is already set to "false". So, no need to touch it. The dom.ipc.plugins.timeoutSecs is also not important here as other values are false.

    3. This site has some screen shots which sometimes helps to visualize when you are doing this stuff. I do disagree with a blank home page though. I like mine to go to a search engine ( I use Google). I’ll accept the one or two seconds and takes to load that page and its’ resources. Blank pages are ugly!

    That should do it for Firefox, the rest of my links were for Windows Vista optimizing.
    Again, if you don’t have them, I highly recommend the following add-ons:
    Ad Block Plus – Who wants to look at advertisements anyhow? (This is just amazing on how it cleans up browsing!) - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865/
    WOT – You’ll need this because some of the features to speed up Firefox decrease its security supposedly. - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3456/
    Flashblock – This I just added and am still tweaking. The thing you must do is create a whtelist for sites you want to have run Flash: YouTube, Gmail, etc. -
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/433/
    FastestFox- I don’t know what all this does, but just the scroll down for the next page feature for most web sites visited is well worth loading it.
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/9825/
    Tab Mix Plus – I like this one just to be able to customize the tab features.
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1122/
    Better Privacy – This can get rid of so called long term or permanent cookies that are not cleared when you clear your cookies history. Marketing companies, adware, spyware, etc. usually put these on your computer. They are called LSO’s here and can be removed. If you don’t have this loaded, you are gonna be amazed or freaked at all the sites that are tracking your key strokes.

    Whenever I open firefox and immediately try to load the website http://www.espncricinfo.com/ , firefox stops responding. I asked Firefox to remember a password for a website and it's the wrong password. How do I change it?

    The left side of the address bar contains a button you can click to get information about that site. The button usually has a little mini-icon for the site and (if it's an encrypted site) the site's name. When you are on the site in question, click that button then click the "More Information" button on the dialog that appears. Alternatively, you can use the Tools menu and click "Page Info". Once you do that (either way) click the "Security" tab at the top and you will be able to click a button to view saved passwords for that site. Delete the incorrect password from that list. You can then log off the site and log back on to have Firefox offer to remember the new password.
