Upload speeds extremely, and abnormally slow 0.60 Mbs on average.  Help!

I am using the Pantech UML290.  I've had 4G coverage for over a year.  Always had a good signal.  Always got speeds at the higher end of the spectrum.  Signal strength -79 to -81.  My average download speed was 10-12 Mbs but often go up to 16.  Average upload was always 3Mbs but could jump up to over 5Mbs.  However, starting about two weeks ago, my download speeds are disturbingly low on a regular basis.  0.6Mbs on average.  This is any day of the week or any time of day.  At best it will peak up to 1.6Mbs on the upload, but never higher (and that was only on 3 different days during this two weeks.  It also didn't last long on those days).  Most of the time it's 0.6 or lower.
Now, since this issue started, my download speed has been consistently 14 - 16 Mbs.  Most of the time it's around 14.8Mbs.  I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the both the drivers, and VS Access manager.  I've tried multiple computers.  Same issue.  Now I'm pretty sure the UML290 is not the problem.  I've taken it to other areas that have had 4G coverage longer, and are more densely populated, and tried it during multiple times of the day.  During peak hours the download can very between 6Mbs and 13Mbs.  Off peak it's 14 - 16Mbs.  The upload is always over 2.5Mbs.  Most of the time it's over 3Mbs and has been as high as 6Mbs.  I also tested it on multiple computers during this part of the testing process. Again no issues.
So, what could have changed?  What could it be other than some problem with the tower near my house?  It's worked fine for over a year.  NEVER had a problem and I test it MULTIPLE times a week, and test it thoroughly.  Anyone have any idea what it could be?   I've called Verizon.  They are now on their THIRD service ticket.  They keep saying the same thing.  They say i'm in a "limited" coverage area and that's why the speeds are slow.  Well the coverage map says I'm in a good coverage area.  It always has.  I have a good signal.  I've never had a single issue for over a year.  My download speeds are excellent.  And now, all of a sudden, my upload speed goes to crap.  Also my latency (ping times) have always been excellent and still are.
Any suggestions or ideas?  Any Verizon employees on here that can escalate this to the point where someone actually puts some effort into finding the problem instead of just calling me and saying I'm in a limited coverage area when I'm clearly not?

Anyone have any suggestions?  I've found that Verizon tech support is quite useless with this issue.  As they have been with any other issue I have brought to them in the past.  It saddens me that I know more than they do about every aspect of every problem I have ever presented them with.  They no longer even respond to me about this issue even though I have had at least 3 service tickets open with them.  I gave up on calling them as I'm sure I'll get the same nonsense response.

  • Upload speed extremely slow

We recently had some equipment upgrades in our village Littlebourne and since then uploading photos has been impossibly slow.  Even though the reported speed is what we would expect - it can take up to 20 minutes to upload a small photo of 500kb or less.  This is extremely frustrating and having contacted BT, I received the response that they do not deal with upload speed.
Upon contacting BT Openreach to ask they to reset the line at the exchange, I was told that I would need to get my ISP to deal with them but as BT who are my ISP will not take responsibility.....
I AM EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED!  I can't believe that my service provider can't even get in touch with BT Open Reach on my behalf.  I spent over an hour with the operator on the phone testing my download speed despite me saying it wasn't the download speed I had the problem with to be told at the very end of the call that they didn't deal with upload speed.
Please could you help point me in the right direction of someone who can get this sorted out as no one wants to take responsibility.  I create and develop websites so it is vitally important for me to have a good and reliable upload!

welcome to the BT community forum where customers help customers and only BT employees are the forum mods
in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router you may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or if HH4/5 then go to troubleshooting then logs and you are looking for 2 line together when hub last connected to internet and they will show your connection speed and noise margin or if netgear enter 192.168.0.1). Then run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results ( do not reset the router).
Unfortunately as it is a residential line there is no preference for any business use and if that important maybe yiou should be using a business line
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, RipapArt!
Any ideas why this has suddenly happened...
Possibly a corrupted file. If you have not already done so, you might considered booting you computer from the Tiger Install disk, holding down the "c" key. Select your language and then from the Utilities menu, select Disk Utility.
In the left pane of Disk Utility, click on your hard disk. In the right pane, click the First Aid tab and then near the bottom click Repair Disk. If any errors are found, it will try to repair them. Re-run repair disk until it reports zero errors. Then click Repair Permissions. Afterwards, reboot the computer normally. Launch Disk Utility from the Utilities folder and Repair Permissions.
Launch a browser to see if you can get online. If the problem persists, launch System Preferences and then Network. Click Assist me and use the Assistant to create a new location and follow the prompts.

  • Upload speed "pausing" and causing disconnections

Recently tried Xbox Live and i keep getting disconnected from any server whilst playing a multiplayer game.
Ran a speed check using speedtest.net as BT's is not working again. My download speed is very good (6.5Mb) and stable but my upload is all over the place (going up and down) and pausing etc hence the disconnections.
I have done the usual, new filter, master socket, rebooted router, blah blah all is fine. Even taken the BT box off the wall to check cables both inside and outside the house.
My Broadband was working perfectly at 1am this morning as I was using xbox live at the time but now it doesn't, any ideas?

  • Since upgrade to 10.6.7, fans speed up and never slow down

I have an Intel iMac, 2.8 GHz i7, 8GB RAM
Just as the subject line indicates:
After upgrading to 10.6.7, when my iMac starts to heat up, the CPU fan RPM will increase but it will not slow down until I reboot - even if I allow ample time for the machine to cool down and let it sit idle for hours.
Right now, the CPU temperature is only 100 degrees F, utilization is at 1%, and the very loud CPU fan is still running at 4000 RPM.
I've reset the SMC multiple times, and this doesn't help.
The most telling aspect is that in the seven months prior, the fan would slow as the machine cooled off.  Not so with 10.6.7
    Anyone else experiencing this?
    Thanks

Resetting the SMC was my first thought, but you have done that. You might also try resetting the PRAM/NVRAM:

After that if the issue persists, I would call AppleCare.

  • Macbook upload speed suddenly slow see history

    Hey there,
So my wife has the white Macbook from september 2008 and I have the Macbook Pro 15in from March 2009. We both share the same internet connection but after the upgrade to SL her upload speed has become painfully slow (see history) while mine is still the same speed.
    Date Download Speed Upload Speed
    Tuesday 00:55 984 kbps (123kB/s) 27 kbps (3.38kB/s) Share
    Tuesday 00:06 989 kbps (124kB/s) 19 kbps (2.38kB/s) Share
    Sep 4, 22:01 1059 kbps (132kB/s) 120 kbps (15kB/s) Share
The september 4th speedtest was BEFORE the SL upgrade and the tuesday is AFTER the SL upgrade, but then again I upgraded my Macbook Pro to SL and there has been no drop in my upload speed.
What to do? My wife is now using my Mac which is no good for any of us.
    Thanks
    Thomas

Select each of the items shown in RED in Activity Monitor. Click on the Quit icon in AM's toolbar then click on the Force Quit button. You only need to do this if you are unable to quit the programs in the normal way - Make the program the frontmost application, then press COMMAND-Q.
You also have two items in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder. They should not be there. You can remove them. HP should have updated software that replaces the older driver. I'm not sure about the TiVo item, but it should not be installed in that location.
You should check the Classroom Enrichment application for compatibility with Yosemite: See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
As for your backup needs I would suggest this:
Repartition the Seagate backup drive. This removes all the Seagate software. If you want more control over your backups than provided by Time Machine see the following options:
    Suggested Backup Software
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Get Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
Others may be found at MacUpdate.
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files. You can download free trial versions of all six so you can try them out and decide on the one you prefer before paying for it. I am a big fan of Carbon Copy Cloner, but that does not mean it's your best choice.
Now given all the above consider that you can always use Time Machine. But until you get your computer straightened out I would refrain from making a backup. There's no point in restoring a malfunctioning backup made of a malfunctioning computer.

  • Upload speed is slow in general.

    Hello anyone,
When I try to send an attachment throug any email client it takes so long and then it hangs. When I try to FTP a file it also takes so long and it then hangs. I have tested my upload speed time and time again and it is clocked at only 25-30 kbps. Way to slow. I am currently on a PC network sharing the internet connection through a router. The PCs on the network have good speeds, but the Mac does not, by the way both Macs on the network have the same problem. Does anybody know what might be going on.

Are you able to test bypassing the router connecting direct to the modem with one of these Macs and if so, does the same occur?
If the same does not occur when bypassing the router, then the router is the problem more than likely.
Have you checked the router manufacturer's website for an available firmware update for your router model that applies to OS X?

  • E1200 very slow upload speeds

We just got an e1200 v2 router to replace one that died, and upload speeds are very, very slow. I've tried alot of potential fixes already, without success. Some help would really be appreciated. Thank you very much! (Details below.)
Speeds: Download averages about 30mbs (different time of day, multiple different speed tests, etc...) while upload averages less than 0.3mbs. Upload is about 5mbs if I plug any computer directly into the cable modem. It's definitely the router slowing things down.
Router Configuration: Newest firmware (2.0.05), upnp disabled
Wireless: Network Mode = Mixed, WPA Personal, Channel 11 (tried 1 and 6 also)
Other Steps Taken: reset the router, modem, tried adjusting MTU (in increments) down to 1430

You’ve mentioned that upload speed are slow through the router but not if directly cabled. Did you mean to say the upload speed is ok if you are directly cabled to the router or through the modem? How about try disabling WMM under Applications & Gaming > QoS. Check then if there will be an improvement with the upload speed.

  • Very very slow upload speeds (25/25 service)

I've had FiOS with 25/25 service for some time now, but for the past month or so, the upload speeds have been painfully slow. I ran the Verizon speed test and ended up with sub-1.0 upload speeds, and that's if the upload test completes at all. It starts out reasonably , then seems to stall and eventually dies. As others have reported in earlier threads, other speed tests (Speakeasy and the Java-based Verizon test ,when I could find it) reported better speeds, but nothing close to 25 up (This seems to be common in other reports of slow speed I saw here.). Download speeds are fine, around 31 when I run it wired.
Before people tell me it's my PC, this occurs with my Android phone as well (it timed out trying to email a video), AND with my Sling Solo box (lets me watch TV remotely), which is where I originally noticed the problem - it starts out OK and then times out.
I had been going back and forth with the VerizonSupport person on Twitter and they weren't able to resolve it (they did reset the ONT at one point, I think - wasn't home so I cannot confirm). I called customer service last Thursday and they sent me a new router, but that did not fix the problem.
What's my next step here? What could be causing this? Could it be in the "line"? The ONT? Are there any tests I can run myself other than the speed test? And why do some speed tests run fine but the Verizon one does not?
I can post screen shots of the speed test later if necessary.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

So, after getting a new router and finding that did not fix my prob;lem, and being told that they ran a speed test to my ONT from their end and that it was good (so the problem was likely my wiring), my problem went away (back to 31/27 on 25/25 service). The week before I noticed that it had fixed itself,  I stopped to talk to a Verizon repair guy who was on my street fixing someone else's service. The repair guy said that my neighbor claimed that his service was dropping, but the repair guy said he could not find anything and ended up replacing the ONT. He had no idea what my problem was but maybe after I left he figured something out related to the two problems and fixed it. Very strange, but I am very pleased that it's fixed. I had the Verizon Support guys on Twitter look up my neighbor's problem ticket to see if there was something in there to saw what they did, but all they saw was the ONT replacement.
I wish I could say what solved the problem since I know there are other people who have had this problem in the past. I hate it when problems "fix themselves".

  • Fast download but (very) slow upload speed

I know that typically upload speeds are slower than download from most ISP in the US, but I have been doing tests the past few weeks on 3 different Mac's (and iPhone/iPad) and while my download speed is good (between 20 and 30 mbps, my upload speed never really gets past 1mpbs (.95 is about average).
Are there any settings on my Airport Express settings that I can change or look at?  I'm running the latest Lion on two  pretty new machines and Snow Leopard on an older iMac that we have, all with very simiar results.
    Thanks.

One area to try is to change the default (Automatic) setting for the Ethernet WAN Port in the AirPort Utility.
I would suggest trying 1000 Mbps/Full Duplex, and then, 100 Mbps/Full Duplex to see which gives you better results.

  • Very low upload speed on Skype?

I had low download and upload speed on Skype for a while. I have fixed the download speed by resetting the settings. My upload speed is still very low. A speed test says I have 18 mbps download and 5 mbps upload. My download speed went from about 5 kbps to 150 kbps after the reset. My upload speed, however has stayed at about 5 kbps. Please help me.

Go to applications > utilities > activity monitor
Sort them by cpu usage and if there are programs that are taking up a massive amount of cpu, then you should quit those apps. If you are watching videos on the internet (especially youtube videos) that will take up a lot of cpu.

Try to rule out the HomeHub.
First, power it off and on again (NOT the white modem) and see if that helps.
Then try a direct connection from the computer to the modem: a bit of a faffle I am afraid.
    - connect from the modem LAN1 (that is usually connected to the HomeHub/router), to the standard ethernet port on the PC/Mac (that is also usually connected to the router.) So the HomeHub is out of the picture.
    - Make a pppoe connection. On a PC it will be something like
    - 'network and Sharing Centre',
    - 'Set up a new connection',
    - 'Connect to the Internet, set up a broadband or dial-up connection'
    - 'Broadband PPPoE'
    - Then enter username '[email protected]' and password 'bt'.
Detail may vary a little between different version of windows, and of course even more different on Mac or Linux.
Repeat your speed tests and see how they go.
That will help check out if the HomeHub is the problem.
    ~~~~
    Also do a test with firewall and antivirus turned (temporarily) off.
    They can cause off speed problems.
    Before I start I will say I'm on the BT Buisiness package but the buisiness forums are dead so figured I'd get a better response here. My connection activated today and I was wondering if someone could take a look at these stats and tell me if they are good/right.
