Upload to Google Drive ignores my "Do not OCR" setting

I love the HP AiO app on my iPhone. I use it to scan all my snailmail, which helps a lot with my personal administration.
However, when I scan a document to PDF and then upload that PDF to Google Drive, I get a file with a .pdf.gdoc extension, which attempts to OCR my document. While this can be useful, there are also documents like a diploma, passport etc that I want to keep as PDF files. My Google Drive settings are configured to not perform any OCR nor to try to convert a PDF to a Google Doc. But it looks like the app ignores these settings. Would it be possible to fix this?

Hi zeptimius, welcome to the HP Forums. I understand when you scan PDF files, and save them to Google Drive it is being OCR'd regardless of your setting on Google Drive to not OCR.
I am not certain how Google processes these documents, but I suggest you scan somewhere else to see if it ends up being OCR'd. This will tell you if the OCR option is being done before getting to Google Drive. If it does not, then you would have to contact Google to ask how to prevent this undesirable action.
Let me know what you come up with.

  • I'm transfering all of my files to Google Drive, but it is not freeing up space on my SSD.

I am using the Google Drive desktop application to drag and drop files from my SSD to Google Drive.  After the transfer is complete the available space on my SSD stays the same.  I've tried emptying trash, rebooting computer, repair disk utility, but no luck!

    Be sure to be moving the files, not just copying them;
    Put them in folders once stored into Google Drive;
    Open Preferences... from Drive's item in the menubar (see first image);
Tick "Only sync some folders to this computer" option and de-tick from the list all the folders (see second image).

  • Aio Remote: PDFs not recognized by Google drive.

Aio Remote on iPad Air2 iOS 8.1.1 - I created a PDF on my iPad from my HP Envy 7640 using Aio remote app. In the files/document section it's there (3 pages) as a PDF. But when I upload a copy from Aio Remote to Google Drive it's not recognized by Google Drive as a PDF even though it has a PDF extention. I have other PDF files stored in Google drive that are perfectly fine. It must be something in your app that is the problem.

More info: if I send it from Aio remote as an email attachment to myself I get a PDF that I can upload to Google drive and Google drive reconizes it as a PDF. again proving it is Aio remote that is doing some thing wrong when uploading to Google Drive.

  • Throttling/limiting of Google Drive uploads

BT seem to be throttling or otherwise speed-restricting  uploads to Google Drive. I've been testing last night and today and found the following, trying to upload a single 3.5GB file (which Google allows, unlike Microsoft SkyDrive).
Uploads per file restricted to 3Mbps to 5Mbps this afternoon using vanilla BT Infinity 2. Last night it was higher so it's variable.
Uploads per file using a London proxy server were 8.5 Mbps.
Downloads per file restricted to about 43 Mbps using Infinity 2 (so could be slow Google servers/links)
(Proxy server itself is limiting downloads to 12Mbps currently)
Incidentally, MS Sky Drive seems to have a permanent upload speed limit of about 3 Mbps per file at the Microsoft level (therefore presumably BT don't have to bother).
The moral seems to be if you want fast free cloud uploads without messy large-file splitting, use a good proxy and Google Drive. Can anyone confirm that it IS BT doing the upload speed limiting here? Speedtests run at the full 17Mbps.

Well today I'm seeing Google Drive upload speed limiting of 2.5 to 3Mbps per file (connection) using Infinity direct, and all the proxy servers I have tried are stuck at those speeds too ( UK, Europe and the US).
Google Drive claim that they do not throttle bandwidth use http://support.google.com/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2490100 and that was certainly borne out last night, but not today. Someone somewhere is doing the throttling (or traffic managing) and currently, the finger points at Google servers whereas yesterday it pointed at BT so perhaps we'll never know.
It's probably naive to expect no upload speed restrictions as at peak times someone's servers somewhere may just run out of bandwidth but at least I know now that neither Google nor BT Infinity throttle at quiet times, I just need to discover when those times are now (in addition to after midnight).
Whereas... Microsoft SkyDrive seem to restrict uploads to about 2.5Mbps per file/connection, 24/7. So I'll now avoid them for large files or  zip-split the files and upload several concurrently (which is also an option for Google Drive at busy times).
As we can see, and many of us have suspected all along, massive upload (and download) connection speeds have reached the level now where the effective speed limit is more often set by individual  sites or the Internet backbone than our own internet connection. A bit like the M25... just try doing 70 mph near Heathrow at 5pm! But at midnight, it's a different story (except with Skydrive's permanent '30 mph' limit).

  • Pages and Google drive

I have uploaded Pages docs to Google Drive, but they can not be opened in Google Drive. Is there a way to do open them?

I HAVE to use Google Drive at the school I teach at, because the school district has decided to use Google instead of getting a site license from Microsoft. Actually, I have figured out how to upload them: first I need to export them as a Word doc. I can read the documents I put on Google Drive on my home iMac by accessing my personal Google account, but I can't access them on my home computer when using the school email Google account. Still working on this.

  • Sync iPhoto  an Dropbox and Google drive

How do I  sync iPhoto with Dropbox and Google Drive.  I do not want to save my entire library into either, but thats the instructions I find.  I just want to move an album in or out

I think I have solved this.  I have Dropbox and Google Drive applications already installed.  I go to Finder- open Applications- highlight with Dropbox or Google Drive then Double click .  When I did this, the respective icon appeared in the the top bar (the Apple bar).  A friend had "shared" a dropbox file of photos, which I had viewed but was unable to get into iPhoto.  Once the icon appeared in the top bar, the shared Dropbox files went into my own Dropbox.  Once the photo file appears in my GD or DB, it it available to be imported into iPhoto.  This is done by opening iPhoto -- then open desired album (newly created & named)--- then click on File drop down in the top bar -- click on 'Import to Library",  your Finder box opens up and you highlight the photos you want to copy to iPhoto. They appear in Last Import.  Highlight all then drag them into desired folder.
Similarly, to Export from  iPhoto, go to iPhoto - File Folder.... arrange & Edit your photos in the desired album.  Then "select" all the photos in the album-- then click the File drop down, then Export. An Export window pops up- I select jpeg in the Kind window, in Quality I select maximum, in File Name I select Album Name & Number. then hit the Export button. Go to the prepared album (file) in GD, highlight the file you want the photos to go to, then hit the OK button
I wrote down each step, in order, so that I can make it happen every time- certainly not relying on memory or logic.

  • How do I share or upload pdf to google drive

I have a Google Drive account that I store work related PDF's to.  My PDF's are sent to me via my employers website.  I have tried to figure out how to download and save the actual PDF to my IPhone 4 and then upload that same PDF to my Google Drive acct.  Cant figure it out.
I am new to the IPhone.  I have an IPhone4.  I moved over from Android as my employer got us these phones so wasnt given an option.
Issue 1:  How do I save a local copy of my PDF to my IPhone 4?  Every time I click the link, it opens a browser. When I hold the link, it asks me  to open in new tab or copy link url.  It gives no option to save the link as a pdf.  Is this possible to do?
Issue 2:  I have tried to upload other things like pictures to my drive.  When I click on the "Share" button, Google Drive is not listed in options.  Is there a workaround for this?
I have searched for help on the web but theres too much info to sift through.
I would appreciate some input on this.  Thanks

  • Word, Pages, and google drive not working

    I'm on 10.8.5
Yesterday everything was working fine. I was taking notes in a google document. This morning when I tried continuing my notes, I was able to type two words before the tab crashed with the "aw snap. something went wrong" error. I cannot access any google drive files on either Chrome or Safari (latest versions). Chrome continues to give me the "aw snap" error, while Safari simply crashes when I try to access a google drive file. However, my drive works perfectly fine on another computer. I've spoken with google support and done all the troubleshooting they requested of me, but they are still trying to figure out what's wrong.
When I downloaded one of my drive files as a docx and tried opening it in MS Word 2011, Word crashed. Now Word crashes on startup, another thing to add to my problems. When I downloaded the same file as an .rtf and tried opening it, TextEdit crashed. (Fortunately, TextEdit still launches). I was only able to open the downloaded file if I saved it as a .txt
To fix Word, I have tried everything. I deleted the downloaded google doc. I created a new user. I deleted the plist file things, but nothing works.
I bought Pages a few years ago, and kept it zipped. I have never really used it. I unzipped it and launched it, and after a few seconds, it also crashed.
To reiterate, neither Safari nor Chrome can open any of my google drive files (all other websites I tried work fine), and a file I downloaded from my drive seems to have broken my Word, and possibly Pages.
So now, I have no working word processors (unless you count TextEdit...), which is problematic since I'm a student. Are these problems the result of malware that targets word processors? I have not recently downloaded any programs. Everything was working fine just yesterday. Aside from my computer being unable to access most of my word processing programs or word processing sites, I see nothing else wrong with it. I'm very tired and frustrated. Any help?
(ps this is my first time using apple support communities, so please forgive me if I did something wrong or my question is unclear)

  • Scan to Google Drive App Does NOT Work - HP 8600

This issue was marked resolved for another printer type, but I see people are starting to post on it again. Started a new unresolved thread.
Scan to Google Drive does not work. I can upload docs to the printer and print them out, but I can not scan a document and send it to the computer.

It sounds like you're trying to run Google Maps within Safari on the iPad - is this correct? (You do mention Safari.)
Delete any versions of Google Maps you have on your iPad - it's possible that the icon is actually a shortcut to loading the site in Safari, which is not what you want to do. Go back to the App Store, and re-download Google Maps for iPad. It will load its icon on the very last screen of your iPad. Try again from there.

  • Server will not connect to itunes, app store, google drive, etc.

MacBook Pro, mid 2012, running Yosemite. I posted here because these problems started after upgrading to Yosemite, so maybe it's specific to that, not sure.
I seem to have a few interlinked problems. I solved a problem with kernel_task taking over 100% CPU usage and preventing an internet connection by getting rid of my Norton/Symantec security suite as well as TunnelBear. However, there seems to be a residual problem, as nothing seems to be connecting to the server.
I can surf the Internet no problem; it's things like iTunes (which crashes every time I try to open it), the App Store (which is a grey slate saying "cannot connect to app store"), and Google Drive (which doesn't sync) that are having connection issues.
I actually first noticed this problem after downloading Pacifist to extract the 'coreaudiod' launch daemon (which got destroyed in one of my previous fixes, long story), but it won't work until I can connect to the App Store and get a Mac OS X installer.
I am self-teaching as I go here, so I don't know much about this (and don't have any Mac tech support where I am unfortunately) and could use the help.

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

  • I can not open PDF document stored in Google drive

I have down loaded Adobe PDF reader APP (Touch Type) but it is not opening my PDF documents stored in my google drive. It tells me error 403 (forbidden). Could some one explain how I can solve this problem.
    Thanks.
    Rajinder Kanda

It depends on how you open the PDF documents that are stored in Google Drive.
Do you access Google Drive via the web browser?  Or do you have a sync client app installed on your device?  Adobe Reader Touch itself does not display the error 403 (forbidden).
Could you describe the steps that you used to open one of the PDF documents from Google Drive?  How did you choose Adobe Reader Touch to open it?

  • Finder Crashing: Not Google Drive

My finder keeps crashing. It happens when I open a file through Rhinocerous Wenatchee, but not if I open it through the desktop. It also crashes when saving a file in Photoshop, then leaving Photoshop unresponsive and needing to be force quit.
I do not have Google Drive, and could not find com.apple.finder.plist in the Finder>Prefrences folder, so those aren't the problems.
I also reinstalled Mavericks today, but that did'nt help either.
I installed Mavericks weeks ago when it came out, but htis problem only started a couple of days ago. Computer has been running rather slowly of late however.

If this were happening to me, I would try to narrow down the source of the problem by seeing if the problem persists by (1) logging in as a different user (e.g., Guest) and (2) starting up in Safe Mode.  (1) Helps identify problems specific to your account, e.g., login items, preference files, etc.,  (2) helps identify third-party system-level conflicts.
If you can get to it, you might try trashing Finder preferences at ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist.  You could do this with Terminal. Also, try dumping Sophos.
