Upload To Newsstand

Hi,
When uploading to newsstand there are few options on the DPS builder like multi folio with entitlement (I do not have subscription yet).
And on Apple site the is a requirement for a sample issue in the in app purchase section.
Is there a guide how to upload from the DPS to the AppStore?

Are you DPS enterprise or Professional user?
Multi Folio with Entitlement (Enterprise only)- Create a viewer app that uses a custom entitlement server to determine which customers can download content. If you select this option, you use your own subscription service. Consult with Apple. Entitlement only apps cannot be enabled for Newsstand and Multi Folio with iTunes Subscription - Create a viewer app that uses the Apple App Store subscription model. You can create either paid or free subscription.
If you are professional customer select Multi-issue with iTunes subscription.

Unfortunately, so far as I am aware you cannot change this tone. I must admit I don't fully understand your problem, I've tried it myself and can hear it from some distance away.

Possible to make a Newsstand App without subscription using viewer builder 1.9?

As far as I can tell, the only way to enable newsstand through Viewer Builder 1.9 is if I select 'multi-issue with itunes subscription'. In itunes connect newsstand is enabled, but if I build the viewer with the multi-issue option selected and try to upload to apple, I get an error that newsstand is not enabled. (info.plist must include Newsstand=true) We did not plan on offering a subscription, only individual 'issues' for purchase. Is there a way around this? If I set up a free subscription, can I still charge for my individual folios?

Did you include the device's UDID in the mobile provision file?

Can you have two separate products appear on Newsstand if they live in the same Enterprise app?

A client has two sets of publications - a weekly and a monthly.
We ideally want to build an Enterprise app that houses all their weekly and monthly publications. Both products need to appear in Newsstand.
Is this possible? If so, how do we partition the app so that the publications are separate? I assume we would need a custom storefront as well.

Hi,
If you want to create 2 separate apps on Newsstand then you need to build and manage these separately. This requires you to create 2 separate App IDs and build separate apps using App Builder.
Remember that folios are always uploaded into a specific application account. This means you'd have to create a separate application account for the other app and only upload the folios you'd like to see in that app.
Do note that apple will probably give you issues if you offer the exact same content twice, so they'll reject the app. If you do want to differentiate between users only getting the weekly vs monthly issues I'd suggest you use an entitlement server.

Free subscription, but not in Newsstand?

I have just successfully managed to make a subscription viewer with a free subscription, entered all info on Itunes Connect etc, but now I see this message on iTunes connect:
Your first free In-App Purchase subscription(s) must be submitted with a new app version that is enabled for Newsstand. After enabling your app version for Newsstand, select your free subscription(s) from the In-App Purchases section of the Version Details page and then click Ready to Upload Binary.
Does this mean what I fear - that if I make a free subscription Viewer, it MUST go into Newsstand? We want to stay out of Newsstand, since the content is not a periodical, but corporate information. I didn't specify Newsstand info in the Viewer builder, and the development viewer appears outside of Newsstand, so I guess that the viewer is ok. But will Apple reject the app?

How do I get my NYTimes app off the new "Newsstand" and back into the folder I set up for all my news apps?

I finally uploaded the now operating system 5.0 and set up iCloud. It rearranged all my apps on my iPhone, and took my NYTimes app out of the folder I set up for all my news apps and now I can't get it out. Nor can I move my other news apps onto the newsstand. Any ideas?

You can't (at the moment). Have been playing around with the same problem for about an hour - very irritating!!!
If enough of us complain, (to the NYTimes) they might have it switched back, but I doubt it. From the marketing point of view I would imagine they want "Newstand" to be THE subscription center, which does make sense.

Prepping DPS app for newsstand

Hi there
I was in the final steps of submitted our magazine app and set up the newsstand options in iTunes Connect. When I attempted to upload the app with Application Loader I got a warning that the info.plist file was missing certain information for newsstand. This file is inside the app package and had already been generated when making the app.
I tried to edit it manually but it didn't work.
Question: Is there something I should be doing when exporting the app from DPS to somehow flag or ready it for newsstand so that these lines of code are already present?
Failing that, does anyone know of a safe and relaible way to update the info.plist file? I have TextWrangler but may have been placing the code in the wrong places.

Choose the Pro companion guide PDF from the Help menu in DPS App Builder. There are quite a few steps.
In iTunes Provisioning Portal, select the App ID and click Configure. Select Newsstand. Rebuild your mobileprovision files, which contain the new App ID settings you just configured. Also create push certificates, which are required for Newsstand.
Chime in if you get stuck.

Stuck with newsstand

Hi there
My client had wanted to launch their magaizne using newsstand but due to a litany of issues, have made a decision to go with a standalone app.
The issue is that I had already started to set up newsstand in iTunes Connect, though I never uploaded a binary.
So as it is now, I cannot remove newssstand OR create a fresh app with the same name to use for the standalone version.
I'm stuck in both places.
Is there a possible work around for this?

Once you use an app name, you can't use it again for a different app.
Upon further reflection, if you have not yet submitted a binary for approval, you might be able to reuse the name for a non-newstand app.
No guarantees but if it doesn't work, you'll be no worse off than before.
I would recommend having the non-newstand app ready to submit before you attempt this.

How many binary files must be uploaded to apple...

Do you need to upload a subscription binary .zip as well as a single copy binary .zip?
for my subscription version it reads...waiting for review.
On my Current version page it reads....waiting for review and under view details it reads....Waiting for review for version 1.0
I also provided free sample content and that reads....waiting for review under free subscription.
But under my In-App purchases it reads Waiting for upload for my non-consumable single issue which I assume from the current version page to be Waiting for review and binary received
I'm confused as hell now if I sent everything that is needed. How many diffrent zips go to Apple? 1 or 2 to start this whole process. One for sub and 1 for single? Its all the same content. Except for the freebie version.
Did this uploading with no sleep after pulling a all-nighter. Now it makes me scared.

My status review says Waiting for review for my subscrption ID but my single issue says waiting for upload is that cool?
Does the subscription version need to be approved first for Newsstand then I can test the single issue in the Sandbox? (Its the same mag and this is the very first issue)
Its says Newsstand is activate in iTunes Connect.
On my Ipad my free sample issue shows up and it gives me the subsribe button as well which appeared to work. I am confused when I can see the full issue and test in my ipad in the sandbox.
I am confused on how this works. Apples servers talk with the Adobe servers and yank accordingly from the corrosponding product ID's? Is that it? All my ID's have been seen by Adobe tech suport for other reasons and all is cool.
In the DPS app builder I didn't have to also put my single issue product ID as well as my single issue ID in the subscription product window as well....did I?
All I have now is my subscription product ID. (and that ID reads waiting for review in iTunes Connect.
I only upoaded one binary file to Apple.
Part of me feels I did things right but the other part is doing its best to freak me out and make me second guess my actions.
Did I read somewhere you need to get approval from Apple before you can test in a sandbox environemt anything that is not free content?
Anywhere on the Adobe site can I find it explained on how Apple & Adobe work with one another and how the product ID's are used etc. I don't want to wait a week here and find out I missed doing something that I could of avoided. during my "waiting for review" process.

Newsstand: Landscape Cover Preview possible?

Hi,
we are developing a multi-issue Newsstand-App. Our magazine is landscape only. Despite several attempts i can neither make the generic preview cover nor the actual cover show up in landscape-orientation in Newsstand.
Here is a preview of our actual cover in sandbox-mode:
We would like to have the preview cover in landscape (like our generic cover for approval):
(above shown: our generic cover 128 x 96 pixels)
Viewer Builder does not accept this landscape cover, only portrait 96 x 128 Pixel:
Apple does seem to support landscape in iTunesConnect for the generic cover, but Viewer-Builder seems to override those settings.
Furthermore, the actual cover (after you opened your Magazine in Newsstand) is in portrait-mode despite what you upload in iTunes:
Does anyone has a hint or clue how to get the preview right for horizontal orientation only magazines (no portrait view included)?

Thanks so much. I tried it first thing in the morning. Result: if i select Newspaper (Zeitung) instead of magazine, Viewer Bilder does not support a landscape image neither. Here is a screenshot:
Both options Newspaper and Magazine require a portrait image (96 x 128 pixels).
There seems to be a workarund since Newsstand accepts transparency in generic covers. But it is not entirely satisfying:
(above shown: a generic cover with transparency. (96 x 128 pixels, upper part transpararent)
After the shadow is applied in newstand:
The shadow applied by Apple is sort of a bummer for this workaround. And it looks kinda hideous.

Just make sure Automatic Downloads are set up for that publication;
Newsstand updates subscriptions only when using a Wi-Fi connection. If you aren't seeing the latest issue:
Verify that you are connected to a Wi-Fi network.
Check Settings > iTunes & App Store to verify that Automatic Downloads is enabled for that publication.

Newsstand fee to publish magazine

In order to publish in newsstand I only have to pay the developer fee ($99) or is there any membership fee?
I heard that also a hosting magazine server service ($99 / month) must be paid. I can't find more information about this.

The question above was because all the magazines are hosted in Apple Servers, so it doesn´t matter how many magazines are uploaded (let`s supposed weekly) in a year?
Is it the same if I publish a book in iBooks?

How-To update Newsstand Default Cover Image

We would like to update the app cover art image that appears in the iTunes App Store to match the current issue of our publication.
In the past I have been able to do this in ITC without uploading a new app binary or creating a new app version, just by editing the Newsstand default cover image in the app's version information screen on ITC.
This functionality is also mentioned in the Adobe DPS documentation:
"The image you specify in the Newsstand section appears in the Apple App Store and the iTunes Store. Whenever you publish a new folio, you can upload a new image in the Newsstand section of iTunes Connect to update your app’s appearance in the App Store and in iTunes." - Adobe iOS Publishing Companion Guide (Professional Edition)
ITC was recently updated with a new UI, and now it does not seem to be possible to update our cover image. I am not able to remove the current cover art or upload new cover art.
Is anyone else having trouble with this? Is it now necessary to upload a new app binary in order to change the cover art image in the App Store?

my feed, however it hasn't updated on iTunes. Will

I was wondering someone could help me.
How do I make my multi-folio app available by itself and in Newsstand? Do I need to create a multi-folio with iTunes subscription? Do I have to create two versions?
And how do I upload that for approval using Application Loader?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The nice thing about newsstand is that you get featured as a magazine. That said your app is stuck in the newsstand and there can be a little out of sight out of mind issue.
You're are able to change the cover icon when the app is in Newsstand, which can be nice.
Considering that it is a niche publication, you're probably alright goight either way, but I tend toward putting monthlies in Newsstand.
