Uploading from backup disks, iTunes 8.2.1.6

I uploaded smoothly from 2 of my 3 backup disks: the third would stick on one particular song which was identified and iTunes would give an error message and eject the disk, not uploading anything, and leaving me at risk of losing all the contents of the disk. However, I located the offending song, and then manually highlight, one screen at a time, all the songs before and after it and moved them manually to the library. It was a little tedious, but I got 99.999% of the contents of the disk. What a relief!
Unfortunately, very little works as smoothly as advertised and it's all quite fragile: one is at constant risk of losing one's data for some reason or the other.

Thanks,
Seems the problem was the iTunes8.2.6. Why THAT came with OS10.6.8ComboUpg when my old G5 PPC OS10.5.8 had iT10.6.3. - Idunno - guess that's rhetorical now. Downloaded iT10.6.3 would not install ! Software update finally worked (?), and gave me a bunch of stuff, including iT10.6.3. Short-story-long, Radio's all there, by 5am I was so freekin happy. What I learned from the days of SCSI - Never quit bangin on the thing.
ps: How'd you guys know I had a CAT?

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library as iTunes Library (Corrupt) and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to a recent state.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

How to migrate Mail & Contacts from backup disk of old PPC iMac (10.3.9) to new iMac (10.8.1)?

  • Itunes Library reinstalled from backup disk- but doesnt work without DISK

i recently cleaned up some bugs on my computer.
    I also installed Avast antivirus.
I turned off the computer- a couple days later when I turned it on-my itunes library was empty.
I reinstalled the library from my backup disk
now lots of songs onthe library have exclamation points- when I click on them it says- we need to find them- then I put the disk back in and all is well.
I bought I new Ipod - 7.0 all good- and it sync-ed great- all songs on the Ipod work
ideally I would like to erase the itunes library and import everything from the Ipod so that I dont have to carry the backup disk everywhere. How do I do that? or another solution? thanks.

Sounds good. Will this work for the iPhone apps, too? When I copy the whole iTunes folder, will the recopy correctly in the new iTunes?
    Yes...
*Fast backup for iTunes library (Windows Only)*
Grab SyncToy 2.0, a free tool from MS. Copy your entire iTunes library & any other media folders onto another hard drive or network share. After making your initial backup copy use SyncToy to periodically synchronise or echo your library to the backup. A preview will show which files need to be updated giving you a chance to spot unexpected changes and during the run only the changed files will be copied saving lots of time.

  • Restoring from backup on iTunes 8 stuck around 95%

Just thought I would test out the claim that the backups were faster iwth version 8 and now its stuck on 95% and has been for almost an hour. Anyone else experiencing this?

First off, "restoring from backup" is not the same as "backups are faster" (i.e. the backups will be faster, but a Restore may take just as long...). Second, the claim is that v2.1 has faster backups, not iTunes 8 (although v2.1 requires iTunes 8). So, wait until Friday to test the claim...

  • Restoring iphone from backup in itunes

    Hi,
I have just plugged my iphone into my itunes for the first time and have been asked if I want to set up as new or restore from backup. Lots of good threads advising that setting up as new doesn't wipe anything - thanks.
However, the last backup date is from when I had an old iphone that broke and I hadn't backed up to icloud, so I am wondering if I click restore from backup can I get back the photos I thought I had lost without wiping the stuff on my new phone?
    Thanks!

    Sorry... No.
A restore from backup replaces what is currently on the Device with the contents of the Backup.

You can redownload it from there. There are VERY SPECIFIC instructions to get the download to work, and then you'll need your original product key to reinstall.

  • Remove disk from backup disks in Time Machine, old backups no longer accessible

I accidentally removed a disk from my backup disks in Time Machine. It said it wouldn't delete any backups, but after reconnecting it, I cannot access any previous backups through the Time Machine interface and it says "Latest Backup: None". The data is still visible on the drive.
What can I do? I really need these backups.

  • Will itl & XML files from backup reload iTunes?

I think I have backup for my library on my Ext.HD but cannot read files that are .itl and XML. With a new laptop and old very full iPod I'm careful not to connect to avoid draining by syncing by mistake I need to reconstruct my library on iTunes. Can I do it from what I have stored? If so, how?

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
If you have an iOS device that syncs with contact & calendar data on your computer you should migrate this information too. If that isn't possible create a dummy entry of each type in your new profile and iTunes should offer to merge the existing data from the device into the computer, otherwise the danger is that it will wipe the information from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data. If you don't have any Apple devices then see HT2519 - Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store.

I recently got an ipod 5th gen. • IPad restored from backup but iTunes says restore failed

SO, it seems like iOS 5 has been a major pain for a lot of people...
I haven't seen anything about the specific issue I'm encountering though.  I spent almost all day yesterday trying to get my iPad backup restored after the update.  Finally, last night, the iPad had all my apps, with all my data (except some pictures I had synched from my iMac).  But, when I reconnect to iTunes it treats the iPad as if it's "blank", wanting to either set up as a new iPad or restore from my back-up, and the restore process errors out near the end, resulting in the iPad having all the data, but iTunes seeing it as "blank" again.
Any ideas on how I can get my iTunes and iPad to agree on the status of my iPad?

Correction... now the restore from backup goes all the way through, BUT when the iPad reboots, iTunes still thinks it's "blank"... PLEASE help.

  • I have a new computer, can i upload from itouch to itunes

have a new computer and wont to upload from itouch to itumes library, can i do that

Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device.  Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.

As for you own music, you may have to use a third party software.  A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:

  • Itunes locks at same spot when restoring from backup disk

Restoring from itunes library a movie, but halfway thru it locks up, tried making more hard drive space, rebooting, but each time it locks at the same spot while trying to restore this movie. The Disk is not scratched and was just made last night, other items on disk have been restored to library.
Movie was backed up from mac library and trying to restore it to windows itunes library (same itunes account), and successfully did this with another movie on same disk.
This movie is 2 1/2 hours, the first was 90 minutes.

“The iPhone “iPhone” could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (-1).”
I have not jailbroken the iPhone, i only have dozen or so apps, synced it every other day. tried the DUF mode before connecting it to the pc.
also, i tried downgrading back and restoring with the following ipsw packages: IOS 4.3.2, 4.3.4, 4.3.5 and 5.
different error code appears with each ipsw. that didn't work either!
in the last attampt it got through the whole progress bar (so it might now be a problem with the firmware), but then it err and gave me the same massage.
