i want to download some dvds i have on2 my iPod but when ever i put the dvd in2 the computer it says play with windows media or real player it doesnt even appear on iTunes or have an import option THANX

Google for "Handbrake for Windows". This will convert DVD's and home made DVD's for importing into iTues and then for syncing with your iPod. It's free.

  • Converting my home DVD to Ipod ?

I have all my personal DVDSP DVDs i want on my iPod. What is the best way to convert them so i can watch them on my iPod Classic ? I know buring commercial DVDs is against the law. This is for my personal built DVDs. I have some that were not backed up in a FCP file just the DVD back ups. Anyone ?

i use either one of those for mac if you need to rip dvd's. lets you save them in mp4 for your ipod. even works for ipod touch and iphone for the right resolution size. check the downloads section

  • Dvd ripping to put home dvds onto ipod video

ok so i was told to use "decrypter" and so i went to google and typed it in and it came up with a few results
    the first one was:
    DVD Decrypter
so i click on that and this is what it says:
"This software is no longer available, this page is stored for archival puposes only.
On 24th of November, 2005, Macrovision Europe contacted AfterDawn.com, notifying us that they have acquired full rights to the DVD Decrypter software and have changed its licensing terms. Effective immediately, they have decided to withdraw all distribution rights from all third party companies, including AfterDawn.com. Thus, distributing DVD Decrypter is now as illegal as it would be to distribute cracked copies of Windows operating system or pirated copies of games."
ok so first off what does my trying to put dvds on my ipod have to do with pirated movies and games?
    anyways
    the second result was:
    DVD Fab Decrypter
so i click on that and this is what it says:
"This software is no longer available, this page is stored for archival puposes only.
On 1st of January, 2006, a new copyright legislation came into force in Finland that made it illegal to distribute tools that allow circumvention of technical copy protections. The legislation was approved by Finnish parliament and was based on European Union Copyright Directive, a law that each EU member state has to implement to their national legislations"
So basically how the heck do i get dvds on my ipod using decrypter if it's now illegal to use it?

  • Don't know how to upload DVD on iPod 30GB?!?!

I just got the new iPod 30GB model and I thought it was a simple process of uploading a DVD onto iTunes, but after attempting many times I realized it is more difficult. If anyone can help me that would be well appreciated...

Where are you putting the memory stick?
The Mac slot is only for sd cards - for memory stick you need either a USB card reader (recommended) or connect your Sony Camera as I suggested
    SDXC card slot.
Transfer your photos and videos to and from your iMac just as fast as you’re able to take them. The built-in SDXC card slot works with standard SD and SDHC cards along with the new SDXC format, which supports capacities up to 2TB. Just insert your camera’s memory card and import your photos to iPhoto. From there, it’s easy to organize your photos by the people in them, share them online, or create photo books.
By default you connect your camera to your mac via the USB connection and it will open iPhoto and ask you to choose which photos to import or to import all

  • Home DVD - to h.264 for ipod/appletv

I have a home dvd of my family that I would like to convert to quicktime compatible format. I no longer have the original DV tape. Any recommendations as to which is better and WHY it is better? I really want to convert for both ipod and appletv.
    Thanks in advance.

I have a home dvd of my family that I would like to convert to quicktime compatible format. I no longer have the original DV tape. Any recommendations as to which is better and WHY it is better?Since the DVD appears to be homemade, you should be able to convert the content to an iPod/TV compatible media using almost any of the currently available MPEG based third-party applications available. HandBrake for instance, is free and has the advantage of having been written to convert directly from either commercial or homemade DVD disc to target file in one seamless operation. Other similar free applications (e.g., MPEG Streamclip, FFmpegX, iSquint, etc.) normally expect the source files to be ripped or moved to your hard drive first. In addition there are a number of shareware (like VisualHub which intrinsically handles a wider variety of source files) and commercial applications (like Roxio Popcorn or their latest offering Roxio Crunch which appears to be "front end" application for the QT MPEG-4 converter). Frankly, they all work and do a good job when used properly. Each tends to have its own advantages and disadvantages.
My personal preference is MPEG Streamclip. It is not the most user friendly and requires you have the QT MPEG-2 component ($19.99) installed for the Mac version. On the other hand, it does have limited editing capabilities that can be performed during the conversion process and thus allow you to do most, if not all, of your simple transcode/edits in a single application. Since it has a wide variaety of "prosumer" options at your fingertips, it can produce excellent results but at the same time requires greater undersanding regarding the use of these options.
Would probably recommend you download iSquint (free) and HandBrake (free) for starters. (If you already have the QT MPEG-2 component installed, then add MPEG Streamclip here.) If you find you like ease of use and most of your work is sourced from DVDs, then you can stick with HandBrake. If you like ease of use but you find you use a variety of media sources -- expecially if they turn out to be more "Windows" based by nature, then you may wish to switch from iSquint and invest in VisualHub at a later time. If you like ease of use but want to stick to QT structures but need an "MPEG front end" for access, then you may wish to move up from iSquint to Roxio Crunch. On the other hand, if you like a "hands-on" approach and very fine control over the converter, then you may prefer "growing into" MPEG streamclip or choose to use it as a preparatory tool for converting files for use with full editor applications like iMovie, Final Cut Express, or Final Cur Pro/Studio. Since there are a number of paths you may take here, it is probably best try different free applications to best see which appeals to you most.
I really want to convert for both ipod and appletv. You basically have two options here. One is to create a single file conversion that plays on both devices and the other is to create separate files designed to match the capabilities of each device. I eleced to do the former. MPEG StreamClip, for instance, has an MPEG-4 iPod preset which will create an H.264/AAC "Low Complexity" file which, while not the same quality as you could achieve with the "Main" profile, is compatible with both iPod and TV playback and which I view using a 42" plasma TV. Believe the latest version of HandBrake also offers separate iPod and TV presets which you can test for free with your current source DVD.
    In any case, Good Luck!

  • ITunes 6/iPod: Upload home movies?

Any indication whether it is possible to upload home movies or personal footage?
    Thanks.

    heh!
The thing is that when Apple unveiled the iPod Photo, it seemed obvious to me that a video version would come very soon after that. We were on vacation and got a very good deal on the 40 Gb Photo, so we got it.
But yeah, it's kind of frustating to get any kind of digital device these days, a few months go by and it's already "obsolete" (note how freely I use the term "obsolete")

  • BEST DVD TO IPOD SOFTWARE

Does anyone have an opinion on the best DVD to Ipod software to purchase? I've tried the trial versions of PQDVD, Xilisoft, and Cucusoft and have found problems and numerous differences with those. If there are any others out there please let me know that may be better/easier/higher quality, etc.. Also, I am trying to convert home movies that are on DVD-R's, it seems as though PQDVD can sometimes convert them, but they freeze up or don't show up at all on the others. A regular DVD was no problem on any of them. Thanks!

theres this doftware but this can be troublesome for soem and not for others. but remember this is a 3rd party software that is not suported by apple. any and all quesitons should be directed on their website not here.all links below

  • How can I upload my dvd movies to my ipad for an upcoming vacation

How do I upload my dvd movies to my IPad 2?

This would have to be one of the bug bears of iTunes: you can put a music CD in your Mac's optical drive and iTunes asks if you want to import it, but will not do the same for a movie you already own and want to watch on your Mac using iTunes!
I haven't bought a DVD for years, and happily buy movies, or rather, when at home rent them from the iTunes Store.
The only way to get movies onto your iPad is to buy movies from iTunes and sync the iPad (make sure you have ticked the sync movies option in the iTunes device settings AND tick only the movies you want in the movies list) or buy movies via the iTunes app on your iPad, or do stuff that is illegal.

  • Comparison for iPod Users: Free Online Converter & DVD to iPod Converter

Compare two channels of obtaining video sources for iPod: one is using online converter, the other is DVD to iPod Converter. After the general introduction of the two methods, I will analyze their advantages and disadvantages for you to choose according to your need.
Part One: Enjoy YouTube (online videos) on iPod
Instruction: a useful website to convert online video freely: http://www.vixy.net/
For vixy, you can just copy the URL of the online video into the “URL” blank of the vixy, then choose the format you want to convert to. Click “Start”. For a short time, the conversion will be finished. You can click the “Download the converted video” to restore the file.
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/vixy.jpg
Advantages: Free online video converter. No software to install. Only a few clicks you can get the converted file after a short while. The most important thing is that online video sources are numerous and original, so you can get the first-hand sources in time through it. Some personal DVs are also shared with you.
Disadvantages: They set limitation of the length and size of the video. The classical movies usually are not on line available. Even if existed, the quality of image and sound is inferiors.
Part Two: Enjoy DVD movies on iPod Touch, iPod Nano, iPod Classic, iPhone, iPhone (3G), Apple TV
We usually bought classical DVD movies for collection or regular watching later, but DVD cannot be copied directly into iPod for us to appreciate it at anytime and anywhere. On this occasion, we need to convert DVD to the format, video and audio settings (Resolution, Bitrate, Frame Rate, etc) supported by your iPod player.
Instruction: the way to convert DVD to iPod: using Aiseesoft DVD to iPod Converter http://www.aiseesoft.com/dvd-to-ipod-converter.html
Install and run Aiseesoft DVD to iPod Converter
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/download/dvd-to-ipod-converter.exe
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/screen.gif
Step 1: Click “Load DVD” button to import your DVD
Step 2: Use “Profile” drop-down list to choose your output format.
Step 3: Click “Settings” for setting your video parameters.
At last click “Start” button to start your conversion.
    More tips:
    1. Merge into One File
If you want to merge the selected contents into one file you can check the "Merge into one file" option. As default the merged file is named after the first selected file (either a title or a chapter)
    2. Movie Effect
You can set the brightness, contrast, saturation of the video and volume of the audio.
    3. Trim Movie
It can help you to capture the segment of your movie.
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/dvd-to-ipod-thread-trim.jpg
    4. Crop Video
You can remove black edge of your DVD movie and get any playing area of the video by using its "Crop Mode" function. You can also select "Zoom Mode" to extrude your video slightly to adjust to your portable devices so you can get the best video quality.
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/dvd-to-ipod-thread-crop.jpg
    5. Take Snapshot
It allows you to capture your favorite pictures from your movie.
Advantages: In this way, you can make full use of your DVD: not only in DVD player, but your iPod player. The function of effecting and trimming allows you to clip the segment of the DVD movies complying with your will. You can enjoy more movies taking full advantage of your spare time while relaxing or traveling.
Disadvantages: DVD movies are usually popular, lacking of individualization. You can not share others' DVs.
With these two ways, we can enjoy the pleasure videos bring to us as much as we like. Have fun!

Depending on what update your iPod is, you may need
to dowload YAMB to make sure the videos play well on
your iPod. If you are watching a converted video on
your iPod and it freezes suddenly and this problem
continues, you need to download YAMB and convert the
files already converted with videora iPod converter
with YAMB, this will only take a few minutes.
I hope this helps you out.
Nope. All that a person with that problem should have to do is just update their iPod firmware to 1.1.1 with the newest updater, as that issue has been resolved in the latest firmware.

  • Loaded up Firefox home on my ipod touch and whenever I go to open a book mark or a web page it crashes and shuts down.

I have loaded the firefox home on my ipod touch and sync'd it. Everything came over in the sync but when I open something, and then start scrolling down the page, it just shuts the program down.

You have the accessibility VoiceOver feature turned on.
Triple click the home button and try going to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn VoiceOver off. You may have to use three fingers to scroll the screen to get there. If problems see the following for how to turn off via iTunes:

  • How to convert video and dvd for iPod

    1. Download, install and run PQ DVD to iPod Video Converter. It can convert from DVD, Tivo, DivX, MPEG, WMV, AVI, RealMedia and many more to iPod Video.
(PQ DVD to iPod Video Converter Download)
    2. Click "Open ..." button and choose a video file or DVD disc to open. Wait for the movie to start playing in the preview window.
    3. Based on the aspect ration of the video source PQ DVD to iPod Video Converter will choose the best resolution for the output iPod video. Nevertheless you can select a resolution of your choice to stretch/squash the picture. Alternatively, you can choose a Crop Mode to cut unimportant parts of the video (like top/bottom black bars or subtitles).
You can also adjust the desired quality to reduce the output size of the movie.
In the preview window you will see what the resulting movie will look like.
When you have set the desired settings simple click on the "Record it" button to convert the video/DVD.
Depending on the settings a 60 minutes video is converted on average for 15 minutes.
    4. When the process finishes you can test the recorded video file on your PC using QuickTime to see if it works well.
Then launch iTunes, add the recorded file into the library and update iPod (under iTunes' File menu). And have a nice time!
    Additional Settings
    1. Video Settings
    Video Frame Rate
Known as Frame Per Second (FPS). It refers to the number of pictures displayed in 1 second in order to form continuous motions. The default frame rate is 15 fps. You may choose 24fps to get more continuos motions.
When selecting higher fps, increase the movie quality and size a little. This is because more frames need some amount of additional motion data to be stored.
    Brightness Level
Increase the level to make video appear brighter on your iPod screen. The default is level 0 (No brightness change from the original video).
    2. Audio Options
    Audio Quality
There are 6 audio quality modes to choose: 32kbps Mono, 48kbps Mono, 48Kbps Stereo, 64Kbps Stereo, 96Kbps Stereo, 128Kbps Stereo.
Audio Bitrate (in Kbits per second)
Audio bitrate refers to how many data storage is allocated to store audio signals. The higher audio
    bitrate, the better audio quality.
    Audio Volume
You can change output audio volume in "Output Settings" dialog. The default volume level is 5 (original volume).
    Stereo to Mono
When the output audio is set to Mono, you can choose which stereo channel (of input source) to be copied into the Mono channel (output). It is useful for some video sources (e.g. VCD) which use the left, right channels for different languages or for karaoke.
    3. DVD subtitle(subpicture), language
It is recommended to use the native DVD menu in the preview panel to set subtitle(subpicture) and language. (Click "DVD menu" button on the right to show native DVD menu in the preview panel) You may also change the subtitle(subpicture), language in the program's Options menu, but there are some DVDs that require the change must be made in the native DVD menu instead of the program's menu.
