Uploading iWeb pages to different iDisk

Hi,
I have a family pack .mac and iLife and want to add a iWeb created site to one of the sub accounts rather than the main account. Does anyone know how to do it?
Thanks
eMac(s), 12" Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I don't know if it will work, but have you tried setting up a new account on your machine and working with iWeb from it for the different iDisk?

Never heard of that one. Most people upload iweb pages with a standard ftp client or a web editor which has an ftp app built in.

all the icons in the left coloumn of iweb are red - is that important?
the publish icon in bottom left corner is now faded, so unpressable.
for directory path i can type in / or /web and test connection works
i am VERY new at this website making stuff so please use short and easy to understand word!!! like talking to a 5 year old!!!
thanks for your time and hopefully your help x

The icons in the left column will turn blue when you publish successfully using either the iWeb FTP or to a local folder.
Both publishing methods are described here...

If you are using the iWeb FTP, try using the publishing settings shown on the above page. Leave the Directory/Path blank.

  • Uploading iweb site from my idisk

I recently had a hard drive crash on me so I've been restoring all of my old files using idisk. Problem is when I open iweb it keeps wanting to create a completely new site instead of opening my old site. I am afraid if I start a new site I will copy over my old files. Maybe there is a way to get iweb to "link" with my current site on mobileme. Apple is usually good at making this stuff easy so I am missing something obvious.

The domain file is not exactly a secret.
If you care to read the iWeb Help, you will find this:
"Your websites are stored in one file called “Domain” on your computer. You can copy this file to another computer as a backup or to work on your site from another location. For example, you may want to update your website from home and from work.
The Domain file is located in your Library/Application Support/iWeb/ folder in your home folder.
To move your Domain file, do one of the following:

Copy the Domain file to the default location shown above on another computer, and then open iWeb.

Copy the Domain file to another computer, but not to the default location, and then double-click the Domain file.
In either case, the next time you open iWeb the most recent Domain file opens.
It’s best to leave the Domain file in its default location unless you have a good reason for moving it.
IMPORTANT: If you use the same Domain file on different computers, be sure to always use the latest version of the file. Otherwise, when you publish, you may overwrite your site with old information."
If you care to open System Preferences, you can set up File Sharing or research this topic in Mac Help.

  • Uploading iWeb page to Tripod doesn't happen because there are more than 3 levels of subdirectories.

I've used both Tripod and Yahoo as web page holders for many years.  Pages I create in iWeb will FTP to Yahoo, but not to Tripod.  Once it gets to the "Scripts" folder, uploading stops at, "Navbar".  It tells me there are too many levels of subdirectories.  Is there a way to simplifiy the iWeb hierachy?  Thanks

You can cut out one level by not uploading the main folder produced by iWeb...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/URLs-Favicons.html
Or cut out the navigation by building an html version in a text box...

  • Upload iweb page with 1und1

    Hello all,
does anyone has experience with uploading a webpage to a 1und1 hosted ftp server?
I do not know how to find the right settings for uploading the wepage?

Enter the IP number in the server address box, your username and password and leave the Directory/Path box empty if you are uploading to the root folder.

  • IWeb pages appear different on different machines

    Hi,
i've tested my site on both my mac and PC and it appears exactly as i would want it, however, when other people view it from their PC's it becomes enlarged and too big for the screen. Any ideas as to what might cause this?
    Neil

Most likely it is the font. What happens is that many websites out there force internet explorer to change its font size automatically, and that affects websites browsed after the fact as it attempts to force font sizes onto each website you visit. Images also I've noticed on Internet Explorer 6.0 for Windows in the Apple website occasionally appear bigger than normal. Unless you specify the number of pixels in your HEIGHT and WIDTH tags an image should be when using it, you may get some odd side effects in terms of the size of the image if you get proportional values. I prefer when publishing my website to entirely drop the image HEIGHT and WIDTH tags, by editing with a straight forward text editor my HTML files. http://www.barebones.com/ BBEdit and Textwrangler are both great for HTML editing.

  • IWeb page does not fully load

I have tried several times to upload a new iWeb page to my iDisk. I get the two pop-up windows; one telling me that the page is loading and the other that it is "complete". When I first visited the "completed" web page, the photos did not appear and the theme background was missing (all white). The last time I tried to upload the page, the photos appear on the web page, but the slideshow stops in the middle.
I have noticed that the "pie" completion icon next to my iWeb page does not disappear and never fills to gray (there is always some white in the pie).
Any ideas why this is happening? Or what I can do to correct this problem?

Anyone surfed/tested their iweb creations on a PC

    Hi sharkguy - Good point!
Stats to Remember when designing websites:
    1. less than 4% of internet surfers use some version of Mac OS
    2. less than 7% of all internet surfers use Firefox as a browser of choice
    3. less than 3% of all internet surfers use Safari as a browser of choice
    4. at least 85% of all internet surfers use some version of Internet Explorer
    5. Netscape, Opera, and Mozilla make up the rest of browsers used

  • Open Pics On iWeb page?

So when I move pictures onto my iWeb page, it resizes them to a smaller size than the original size. But is there any way to make it where someone can click that picture to show its original size? Or just a larger size?

That's what iWeb does when you drag a photo or graphic onto an iWeb page. Different themes will also add a frame to the item. To get it back to the original size go to the Inspector/Metric pane and click on the "Original Size" button. Then you can drag it to where you want it on the page.
As far as having someone click on a thumbnail and get a larger size the easiest method is to add photos to photos page or an album from iPhoto in the Media Browser to an Albums page. Then when you click on the thumbnail you'll get the larger size like in this demo page: iPhoto Book as an iWeb Slideshow
For the album page method see this demo page: iPhoto Albums
Now is you want to have a thumbnail on a regular iWeb page and have a larger version popup when you click on it see this demo page: Fancy Zoom & Image Popup.
There's also a rollover method where rolling the cursor over an image will change it. Example #3 on this demo page has the second version a larger image: Rollover-gifs
Still another method: Open an item in a new window without a button
So there are a number of different ways to get what you want.

  • Can you work on the same iweb page on 2 different computers?

hi, i usually work on my imac doing my iweb pages, i would like to work on a second ibook that is in the house. i've tried and tried but can't find a way for the ibook one to pick up the pages. it has the same .mac idisk folder as the other mac with the iweb backup but won't start up with the iweb pages, the iweb starts up blank asking for its first page.
    is there a way?
    thanks

Chuck thanks, I found I can do it from that post, all you need to do is copy the iweb main folder to a USB mini, then I replace the iWeb folder in the next machine... it works great, you just have to remember to update it when you leave one machine and add the update to the next.

  • Upload photos and text to an existing iWeb page from an internet cafe?

    Hi,
I plan to do a trip and created already an iWeb page on my .mac account. During my trip, I would now like to upload pictures and personal comments on my existing webpage. Can I do this in an normal internet cafe via my internet .mac account?
I have checked this internet account and there is a button "web page" but my original webpage does not appear.
    Thanks for your help!

You can't modify anything in an iWeb site except by using a Mac with iWeb installed and also the Domain file that created the site.
.Mac Web Galleries let you upload photos by email.

  • In trying to transfer iWeb pages (not uploaded) to another computer I went into the library and transferred the domain onto the desktop. Disaster! On opening iWeb all previous (uploaded) sites have disappeared. Help!

In trying to transfer iWeb pages (not uploaded) to another computer I went into the Library and transferred the domain onto the desktop. Disaster! On opening iWeb all previous (uploaded) sites have disappeared. On opening the domain all I can recover is the many component parts, and when unzipped the code. Help! Mike

Code in a domain file - really?  That is not possible because the domain.sites file does not contain any html or css code at all - the domain file is your iWeb data file and you won't see any code until you publish your website.
If you can see html code, then you have the wrong file and it is a published version of your site which iWeb can do nothing with - iWeb has no import facility so cannot open any html files.
Go back and ensure that you have the correct domain.sites files that can be found under your User Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites and if you have Mavericks then you need to go to Go and press the alt key to reveal your hidden User Library, so that you can then get to Application Support and then iWeb and then your domain.sites file.
You will also need to go and download either DomainCracker or iWebSwitch which allows you to open individual domain files under Mavericks, because from Lion onwards, you cannot open individual domain files.
Also, it says that you are still using iWeb 08?  If this is so, you'll either need to upgrade to iWeb 09 by going to Amazon and purchasing the iLife 09 or 11 boxed set, both of which contain iWeb 09 or you need to switch to newer software that is actively being supported and developed such as EverWeb (http://www.everwebapp.com).

  • CSS justifications are different when I upload my page...

I used to build websites with GoLive CS2 for number of years. With the purchase of a new laptop, I recently switch from CS2 to CS5. (But have been using CS4 at work). As GoLive is no longer existing, I just switch to Dreamweaver. I had several problems modifying pages originally created in GoLive and now imported in Dreamweaver, specially for modifying text already in place. It seems well suggested to learn CSS, maybe this will solve the problems.
Have been watching a few tutorials this morning on how to use CSS and I've spent a few hours building CCS for all the different options required by my document. Everything looked fined until I upload the page on the net. When text is centered in Dreamweaver once uploaded, everything is left-justifed. What am I doing wrong?

It's evident from your code that you haven't learned how to use CSS efficiently yet.  And you don't yet understand how CSS works with HTML.
To further complicate things, your HTML code is riddled with inline styles that are overriding your embedded CSS rules.  Best advice is to find a pre-built CSS Layout and rebuild your site without all the nasty GoLive code.

  • Publishing iWeb pages from 2 different Macs

I have recently bought a MacBook to complement my G4 Powermac desktop - the desktop has iLife05 installed and the MacBook iLife06.
I am really enjoying using the iWeb application and would like to be able to publish iWeb pages from both my MacBook and my desktop mac. Is there anyway I can get iLife06 transferred onto my desktop. I have already been firewiring files between the two - can I do the same with software or do I need to buy iLife all over again?

    Hi James,
Your response definitely helped me since my boss and I are trying to maintain a website on both of our computers...
BUT, i have a huge problem. Before I knew how to transfer or find the domain files, I used the "FIND" option to search for the domain site on my computer and when i clicked it open, my site didn't come up but rather a prompt asking me what type of website I'd like to create. For months, the website we created showed up every time I opened iweb but now when i simply clicked on domain.site or whatever it was that turned up in the "Find" folder, I can't bring up or locate the site I created on the computer so I have no way to update it or put it on a disc for my boss... Do you have any idea what caused my site to disappear simply by clicking on domain or any idea where i could find my site??
    please help!! thanks!
    Vanessa
one more thing: is it possible for my boss to edit the content of the website without iweb? could she do it through the actual website with a password or something? just curious... also if i can't get that original domain site back, is there a way i can transfer my website to a different website other than iweb so that i can keep updating without having to redo the whole thing? even being able to transfer separate blogs from iweb to the original site would work too - anything to not have to redo the welcome page and picture pages that are already online

  • IWeb pages slow to upload when you want to view from .Mac

I've finally uploaded by website. I intially had a website on Yahoo but loved the ease of use with iWeb. However, I do not like losing my domain name so I linked my new .Mac website address to my Yahoo site (www.inabindstudio.com). There is a link there to take you to .Mac. I've noticed that is takes a while to get the pages to load. You see HTML coding and then the page slowly builds up. I am not that tech savvy, so I need someone to tell me is this normal? How can I get these pages to load up faster? Hope this makes sense.
    Thanks.
    G4 Powerbook Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi Tassy,
I also have noticed iWeb pages do tend to load a lot slower than websites built via other methods. This is true even when you host an iWeb site from somewhere other than .Mac.
From what I have read here in the discussions, the problem is in the kind of files iWeb creates to make the pages look really nice and uniform - they use a lot of PNG images. These are generally larger files than JPEG images, but many people agree the result is a better looking page. But the flipside of that, is that viewers with a slower connection speed will see the page load fairly slowly, and it can be very pronounced in some cases.
There's no good workaround right now. Hopefully in future patches and updates Apple can improve things. Its something that has been discussed on this forum at length. If you are interested in finding out more you can search iWeb Discussions for discussions on slow loading iWeb sites, and you will find many posts like this one
