You can upload it to any web hosting service. See this Apple doc:

Is there a way to only upload iWeb changes? I am not using MobileMe.

One method you can use, along with optimizing your website for increased loading efficiency in browsers, is to publsh to a folder on your hard drive and use  Web Site Maestro to optimize and upload only the new or modified files with its Smart Handling feature.
If you publish to a folder you can use the synchronizing feature of Cyberduck, help/en/howto/sync – Cyberduck, to upload only those new or changed files.

Never heard of that one. Most people upload iweb pages with a standard ftp client or a web editor which has an ftp app built in.

  • ILife 08 to 09 iWeb question (and a question about DW while I'm here)

I was thinking of upgrading to iLife 09 for just a couple of reasons:
    (1) The iPhoto face recognition feature looks cool and I want to try it. I have tens of thousands of photos of friends from nearly 30 years in my iPhoto and it might be fun.
    (2) I basically like iWeb 08, but hate the way it deals with multiple sites. I always have to publish everything, but in iWeb 09 it looks like I can single out just a single site for publishing, even via FTP. is that right?
Recently I also acquired Dreamweaver because of some work I'm doing for a company. But I find I can't even do basic simple things, like drag around text or insert a web widget (some HTML in a box) to move around and position - like I can do in iWeb.
Are things like that possible in Dreamweaver?
I can't even figure out how to add new text somewhere on a blank page in Dreamweaver. And everything I create looks boxy, plain and clunky. I am obviously not a web designer - I am a web application programmer.
With Dreamweaver I feel like I stepped into some 20th century web authoring tool. With iWeb everything I create looks nice even though I have no artistic talent myself.
    doug

I don't mind publishing to a folder and uploading using my FTP client, but it seems I have to publish ALL the sites each time to the folder and then just upload the one site's folder I was editing. So it takes a long time each time I publish to the folder. There is no way around that, is there?
About my DW question, it was "in comparison to iWeb". If I asked in a Dreamweaver forum if DW could do this thing that iWeb could do, somebody would probably say, "Why don;t you ask your question on an iWeb forum?"
    Thanks,
doug@hoping this discussion doesn't digress into whether I should post my question here or not

  • Bridge gallery and iWeb questions, newbie....

    Hi All....
I have made myselve a page in iWeb but I´m not happy with the gallery-layout with thumpnails and small sized pictures, I would like my galleries to be scroll down type, OR just one picture at the time and nothing else, except "Next/previous" and a "Menu" sign, either in a good (>>>big pictures) size....
I have this morning realized that I can do that in Bridge, so I have made myselve a testgallery and uploaded to my site via Bridge, and I can see in Filezilla that it is there, but I can´t see it on my page, off course because there´s no link between the two of them, the question is, how do I make my page show the gallery....???
I haven´t been able to locate the testgallery on the web, as mentioned I can see in Filezilla that it is there somewhere, but how to find it out there I don´t know....
My homepage is called www.easerfoto.dk and the gallery I have oploaded is called Bridgegallerytest, if it has any relevance....
If anyone have a page that is made in Bridge and care to share how´s, then please step forward, I´m on zero here, any tip is appreciated....;-)
Maybe I should mention that I am an complete NOOB on all this (managed to have Filezilla working first time last week), but want to learn....

When you created your gallery did you publish the file to a folder?  And was one of the files in that folder named index.htm or html?  Make sure the gallery works correctly by opening the index.html file with your browser from the gallery copy on your hard drive.
Then upload to the root directory of your account on the server.  The url would be something like this:  http://www.easerfoto.dk/Folder_name/index.html.
Put that URL in the iFrame code below in an HTML snippet. The iFrame code in the snippet would look like this:
    <iframe height="XXXpx" allowTransparency="true" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" style="width:XXXpx;border:none" src=" http://www.easerfoto.dk/Folder_name/index.html"></iframe>
Adjust the height and width dimensions to fit the size of the gallery you want on the page.
Also for what it's worth there are other gallery types of presentations, some from iPhoto with a free plugin, that might be of interest to you:

  • Basic iWeb Questions

I am new to iWeb. We are uploading a site to a .org address, www.miniapples.org, not mobile me. I am publishing the site to a folder on my computer and then uploading it with an FTP program to the server.
    1. Where does iWeb store a site on your computer prior to publishing?
    2. Is publishing a one way street? In other words is the site stored somewhere within the iweb package and then when published, it is dumped into a site folder in a one way diretion (iWeb->site folder)? As compared to a program like Dream Weaver where you access files located in a site folder (Site->Dreamwever->Site), I have the impression (maybe incorrect) that the pages available for update are not those located in the published site, but are held somewhere else?
    3. Can a .htaccess text file be inserted into an iWeb site to make "home.html" the default page? Our site is hosted on a mac server. In converting the site to iWeb, I've noticed if the main page is listed as "Home.html", the site will not display it when a search is done for www.miniapples.org. But if I change the main page to "Default.html" then it appears. However in iWeb whatever you name the page is what appears on the site. I don't want this page called "Default" but "Home". Hence the .htaccess question or is there a better way?
    Thanks!
    -Dave

Yes, Fetch aimed at the wrong page is more likely.
Turns out you might be right about cache. I went to look at the cache setting in Firefox (which I just started using on a regular basis) and I could not find a cache setting in the Firefox Prefs. So I googled it and it appears that at least according to a 2005 article that to turn off the cache in Firefox you must type about:config in the address bar. Scroll down the list of items that pop up to browser.cache.disk.enable which should say true, right click that line and select toggle (in the menu choice that pops up) to toggle it to false. Now I'm going to see how this works with different pages and see if there are any unintended consequences and see if my updates to the iweb site reflect my changes. Thanks, I'll report back.
    http://blog.gilluminate.com/2005/03/18/firefox-cache-issues/
I'm new to Fetch (having before used Dreamweaver's built in FTP) to upload pages. How could you have Fetch pointed at the wrong page? To get signed in, I'm having to log into the site at the server which puts me into the correct folder. All of the html pages are on the top level.

  • Uploading iweb to godaddy

    Hey
Ok I wondered if someone could help me please, I'm trying to upload my iweb site to my host godaddy which is also where i got my domain name from I used fetch to upload files and they all apear to be in my file manager on godaddy but whenever i go to my URL www.laurabuckingham.com all i get is
    Not Found
The requested URL /Welcome.html was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
    Apache/1.3.33 Server at www.laurabuckingham.com Port 80
I emailed godaddy and eventually i got somewhere but still didn't work then i got this email yesterday from them saying.....
You would normally have your script and coding put together with the proper file names and paths prior to uploading the site through the file manager. Once you have uploaded the files to the file manager it would not be as easy to update the coding although it is possible. Please note we do not provide assistance with the coding of the site. At this time your files are uploaded but it appears the index.html file is set to redirect to Welcome.html which does not exist.
Does anyone know what i have to do to resolve this issue as I'm not technology minded enough to understand that and all it is doing is frustrating me as it looks like I've wasted money with godaddy
Can please someone help me please?
P.S I'm new to this and think i just posted this as a reply but it is actually a question!

StatCounter is a very good free counter. How to add it to an web page is discussed in Old Toad's Tutorials #12 and 13.
This demo page has an HTML Snippet counter (at the top) and this page has a post publication edit counter. The post publication edit method lets the user determine the font, style, size and color of the text based counter. The snippet based counter must be configured at the StatCounter site and has limited options.

  • Quicktime to iWeb question

    Hello,
Question about converting a movie I made for my web site uploading to my .Mac account - using iWeb 08.
When the full quality movie is open in Quicktime Pro, and you click on export for web, I get this info box saying this:
In the same folder as this instructional HTML file, QuickTime Pro has placed various versions of your movie optimized for web-delivery. Also in that folder is a reference movie, which selects the best version for your users' various devices and connection speeds. By including this reference movie in your HTML page, you can ensure a quality video experience on your site.
    THEN IT GOES ON ...
Use the following HTML code to embed your movie into your web page.
    Important Notes:
•To make your media viewable on the internet, your media assets (movies, poster image) must be placed on a publicly accessable server.
•The URL parameters must be modified if your media assets are served from a different location than your web page.
•The movie URL parameters must always point to the reference movie (Fluid-Cam Test.mov) rather than a source movie.
•The reference movie must be kept in the same folder as the source movies.
•Source movie names cannot be changed, but you can change the name of the reference movie (remember to change it in the HTML code as well).
•Please note, to properly validate as XHTML, the <style> tag and the first <script> tag should be placed within your page's <head> tag.
•Use this code in the <head> of your web page:
(AND THEN THERE IS A BUNCH OF CODE AFTER ALL THIS- WHICH I DIDN'T BOTHER TO TYPE HERE OF COURSE)
Understand that I am using iWeb 08, which is a wysiwyg program.
There is no instructions-that I can find-explaining where this code goes, or how to optimize a movie for various formats, using iWeb 08.
    Any input is appreciated!
    Thanks!
    - TEXASFLOOD

    Thanks for the reply...
I would have posted this elsewhere (and would have done so) but since the question seems to originate within the Quicktime program, I assumed there would be a Quicktime answer.
My thought was, surely there are Quicktime users that have incorporated iWeb by now ... guess not.
I will be pleased to post this again in iWeb of course.
    Thanks Again!

  • IWeb questions from a newbie

    Hi everyone...
I am looking into making my own simple website and am trying to decide whether to make one from scratch or use iWeb and a .mac account. Any advice for the following questions would be appreciated!
    1. I see a lot of iWeb sites that have the ugly "web.mac.com" preceeding the site name. Other iWeb sites don't have this prefix so obviously there is a way to do without it. How do you eliminate that prefix?
    2. My site would only hold a resume and half a dozen short vid clips. But I've noticed on other iWeb sites that the video loads EXTREMELY slow (on a high speed cable line!). Is this a flaw with iWeb (is there a recommended compression rate for vids to play on iWeb)?
    3. When I bought my G5 it came with Garage Band, iMovie, iPhoto, etc. (everything EXCEPT iWeb). I noticed that in order to purchase iWeb, you have to buy all these apps again which seems like a waste! Is there a way to buy or download JUST iWeb?
    4. I've done lots of research on iWeb and on Amazon.com virtually everyone prefers iWeb '06 over iWeb '08. Isn't the newer version supposed to be an improvement? Does anyone know what the fuss is about...and is it a better idea to purchase the older version ('06)?
Thanks for any help you might have!

    1. It's called personal domain. You have to buy a domain at a domain regitsrar like GoDaddy. Example: yourdomain.com
Or Publish to a folder and upload to a server other than .mac
    2. It's not an iWeb issue. It's a hosting issue, thus an issue about .Mac. Publishing to a hosting other than .Mac speeds up things.
    3. iWeb first appeared with iWeb '06 in iLife '06 package. You maybe have iLife '05 or deleted it by accident (or not by accident)
And no it isn't a waste as the applications are new versions, thus improved. New features included and so on. And no there's no way to legally download/buy only iWeb.
    4. I like iWeb '08 a lot more than iWeb '06.
There are compatibility issues with the worst browser of the world, also commonly called InternetExplorer. But it's not an iWeb issue... It's an IE issue.
    Regards,
    Cédric

  • A whole slew of iWeb questions:

FAIR WARNING: I've always been chastised for taking 15,000 words to say what could be explained in 300 words -- this post is not and exception (Sorry).
I never thought I'd be a technology elitist, but since I finally made the switch to Apple as soon as the MacBook Pro was released I've started forcing "Steve Jobs for President" buttons on everyone I know. I'm one of these dudes that knows just enough to be firmly grounded in the fact that I know nothing.
So, now that I'm firmly committed to Apple/Mac, I'm trying to convert everything I can. I am the current (pretend) administrator for my church website - www.drccsedona.com. I'm building ver 2.awesome through iWeb and will probably make the switch to .mac in late April. Before I get in trouble for completely screwing up the church website, I'm wanting to clarify some points about iWeb and .mac. Here they are:
    - I want to do some really simple post-publishing things (change link colors, add web forms, etc.) and from already posted threads it seems like this won't be too difficult as long as I get, and learn to use, things like MassReplaceIt and Wufoo (that one looks pretty slick - thanks 'varkgirl'). My question is, if I'm already going to subscribe to a .mac account anyway, can any of you gurus shed some light on whether I will need to just plan on publishing to a folder, or if publishing straight to .mac will work?
    - This is just a luxury, but does anyone know, or has been successful at getting a .ICO image uploaded to a site directory and working with an iWeb/.mac setup? (For anyone wondering, I'm hopefully referencing this correctly -- the icon image that some web browser's display before the url in an address bar.
    - I thought I saw a thread in the past that displayed frustration at iWeb's inability to publish two separate sites. In addition to my church site, I've registered the domain 'frigginrad.com' and I'm hoping to publish a site to this domain in the future (under a different .mac subscription) -- anyone foresee problems for me here?
    - Lastly, for now, I think I've got the Forward/Masking concept down, but I tried this (GoDaddy) for one of my domains and it masked the entire url -- which I wasn't expecting. Here's an example of what I mean:
'www.mydomain.com' forwarded and masked to 'www.redirecteddomain.com'.
This worked well, but when I visited different parts of my site I expected to see a url of 'www.mydomain.com/aboutme' or 'www.mydomain.com/links' and instead it the url in the address bar never changed from 'www.mydomain.com'. I hope what I'm describing makes sense. If this is the way it's gonna be, I can live with it, but am I just missing something?
Any feedback will be much appreciated! Thanks Gang.

Well first off, you can publish them both to the same .Mac subsctiption and then forward your two differernt domain.com addresses to the proper location on .Mac.
If you want things located directly on yourdomain.com you will have to publish to a folder and upload via ftp, purchase hosting, etc. You would also need to split your domain file.

  • Duplication of website when uploading iWeb in FTP

My question was posted several days ago but it did not receive a response. At the same time while sorting out the issue, I sought Domain Host support from my ISP. What was occurring at my end was beyond comprehension and the Domain Host support suggested issues with codes, which I had no brain to sort out.
To resolve the dilemma, I renamed the website, remounted everything to eliminate 'glitches' occurring on some of the pages. In other words, start all over again. Uploading was compounded with the server several times over having its own issues, but finally after many re-uploads, the renamed site finally loaded successfully.
I wish to add to all to this by mentioning that iWeb still proves, from my perspective, the best web design program for users like me who are not highly trained web developers or designers. I am in the category of 'low-ended' with basic skills and minimal design talents. However, the website I have for my client is well visited not into the millions because of its subject. But, it is serving the purpose of my client and the visitors I hear from provide accolades galore.
I have investigated all the other web design programs mentioned in the forum and find iWeb the best not only for a 'low-end' web designer but user-friendly for the visitors. My clientele tell me how much they like the layout with the INDEX in view on every page making it so easy to access the other pages without having to return to the 'HOME' page. They love the layout and design as well thanks to the excellent templates iWeb has. The content is most important but presenting it in a way that visitors find to be excellent speaks volumes for iWeb.
I wish I was a developer so that I could work on iWeb to keep pace with the coding changes occurring on the internet. But, as the lowly web designer out there, iWeb remains functional thereby keeping my client happy and its world-wide visitors.
Thanks, for letting me share my experience with iWeb and that I will continue with the program ad infinitum. Concluding, by saying Apple made a mistake dropping this excellent web design program.

I am replying to my own message because the one above was sent accidentally before I could add more information. I wanted to include URL for the website which is http://lanark-baldersonpastoralcharge.ca
I also want to include a screen shot of my Website folder. The troublesome site #4 is what duplicates in the FTP program.
I hope this issue can be resolved as it is a very well visited site. I am diligent about keeping it updated. The entire website had to be uploaded because Apple removed the Arial MT and Arial Bold MT. All my pages were skewed as a result. After hours of getting them reinstated with Arial Round Bold MT, iWeb published everything beautifully, but I cannot upload them because duplication of the site has occurred.
    HELP!

  • How do I upload iWeb-site without using 'Flie Publish' feature?

Due to corporate firewall restrictions I cannot use iDisk, Sync or iWeb to connect to .mac, which presented a problem when I wanted to Publish my iWeb site.
I have uploaded the site [via webdav, with Transmit] to the Sites folder of my iDisk, but I can't find my site when I enter my .mac URL into my browser (http://web.mac.com/myusername or http://homepage.mac.com/myusername).
Theoretically, is this the right way to upload to iDisk without using iWeb? Is there anything else I need to do to link my URL to the files in iDisk/Sites?
    Thanks in advance, Lee.

Ok, my member name is leepaulvickers.
    I've tried
    http://web.mac.com/leepaulvickers
    http://web.mac.com/leepaulvickers/iweb
    http://web.mac.com/leepaulvickers/leepaulvickers
    http://homepage.mac.com/leepaulvickers
but just get the 'we can't find the HomePage you've requested' 404 error.
BTW I've used Transmit to upload to my iDisk in the past, such as files and photos with no problems. I assumed there would be no trouble with iWeb's files...

  • File Upload PJC questions

    File Upload PJC
I have installed the File Upload PJC demo & got it working.
We are using Forms 6i patch 8 with servlet configuration, iAS 1.0.2.2.1 on Win 2000, Oracle 8.173
We want to upload/download files to the server & save them as BFILES in the database. I think I am on the right track but have some questions:
What do I have to change in the PJC to increase the memory so I can upload a file > 4 MB? We will be uploading some large files. I'd also like to ability to select multiple files to upload. I don't know much about Java programming but will learn if this is the best way to accomplish this.
I want to upgrade to Forms patch 12. I understand that it uses Jinitiator 1.3 & that it will popup a dialog when it sees a new signed Jar file & will automatically import the certificate if the user decides to trust it - but I read on the Technet forum there is a bug 2483719 - does this work with patch 12?
We also want to use the Native JVM for IE (when it will work with XP - is this patch 13?). What do we have to change if we create a signed CAB file?
We also need the reverse to download a file to the client - WITHOUT using web.show_document - since this does not always prompt you with a save dialog box & tries to open the file in the browser.
Any ideas will be helpful - thanks.
    [email protected]

    Laura,
these are many questions in one post and I try to answer it as good as I can
We want to upload/download files to the server & save them as BFILES in the database. I think I am on the right track but have some questions:
What do I have to change in the PJC to increase the memory so I can upload a file > 4 MB? We will be uploading some large files.
As far as I know there is no restriction to the size of the file uploaded to the server. There exist a recommendation of to which size this bean has been tested. Due to the implementation of the Bean there are defined chunk sizes for the data passed, but this does not limit the size of a downloaded file.
I'd also like to ability to select multiple files to upload. I don't know much about Java programming but will learn if this is the best way to accomplish this.
Actually you will have to change the code then. First you need to set a porperty on the file dialog allowing the selection of multiple files. Next you will have to handle multiple files in the bean code. Yes, without Java you will not get there.
want to upgrade to Forms patch 12. I understand that it uses Jinitiator 1.3 & that it will popup a dialog when it sees a new signed Jar file & will automatically import the
certificate if the user decides to trust it - but I read on the Technet forum there is a bug 2483719 - does this work with patch 12?
The problem is that you use a different (custom) signature for the upload bean, after modifying it, that requires the user to first grant it permissions. The bug means that this currently cannot be handled with Jinitiator 1.3.x. The work around is explained in a Whitepaper on OTN about signing Java Bean in Forms (Forms9i collateral section). There is no dependency to teh Forms patch you use, but to Jinitiator. So yes, teh work around will work there.
We also want to use the Native JVM for IE (when it will work with XP - is this patch 13?).
    Possibly. That's the target patch.
What do we have to change if we create a signed CAB file?
You'll have to use the Microsoft SDK and refer to their documentation on how to create and use signed cab files. Shoudl be no big difference though.
We also need the reverse to download a file to the client - WITHOUT using web.show_document - since this does not always prompt you with a save dialog box & tries to
open the file in the browser.
This is a problems with files that the Browser has a MIME type map for. If you download a file with the .gif extension, then this is a known MIME type configured in the HTTP Server. Therefore the Browser recognizes that the downloaded stream is a gif file and tries to render it. You can work around it by making sure that the downloaded file extension is not knwon by the HTTP server (Mime type application/word).
