Uploading Library into New Ipod & Xferring library to itunes on other PC...

Hi All....
1.) I had(have) an Ipod Classic (30GB) and dropped it. Needless to say, the screen shattered. So, I went to MAC World where I got the entire Ipod replaced for $140. In doing so, my library was wiped out too..So, how do I upload my library from Itunes onto my new Ipod?
2.) How do I transfer my Itunes library from the original PC where I first installed ITunes (years ago) to my new laptop? Why can't I just install/open ITunes on my new laptop and my original library be there? How do I sync it with the new Ipod so that my original library is uploaded onto it from my laptop?
Your help is greatly appreciated!!
Regards,
T.

*How do I upload my library from Itunes onto my new Ipod?*
Connect your new iPod to your computer and follow the on screen instructions to register and name it. It will connect to iTunes and prompt you to automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like. You can leave it at manual update or choose to sync music - selected playlists.
*How do I transfer my Itunes library from the original PC where I first installed ITunes (years ago) to my new laptop?*
Probably the most straightforward way to get iTunes onto your new computer is to network it with the old one and copy your iTunes folder across. This works fine if you have been using iTunes to completely manage your music and all your songs are in iTunes Music not in different folders. You can also use this method with an external hard drive, you drag the folder from the old computer to the external drive and then from the drive to the new computer. If the songs in your library are not all in the iTunes Music folder you can consolidate them. When you consolidate, any songs in the iTunes Library that are not in the iTunes Music Folder are copied to the Music Folder and the Library is updated to point to those new files. Files already in the iTunes Music Folder have no changes made to them: Copying all your iTunes files to one location - Windows
Copying the whole folder brings with it the iTunes Music folder and also the iTunes Library (iTunes Library.itl in Windows) database file which holds all the information about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). You'll get more information including the Folder/File structure in this article: What are the iTunes library files?
When you copy the iTunes folder make sure you put it into the same location on the new computer. This has to be the exact same place, on a PC this is \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\. Everything has to be exactly the same on the new computer including the Windows user account name. When you open iTunes on the new computer it will be the same as on the original one Songs, Playlists, Play Counts, Ratings etc. You should also use the same version of iTunes on both computers.
Your iPod can be used as an external drive and you can move the iTunes folder onto it: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
If you have any iTunes purchases in your library don't forget that you'll need to authorise your new computer to play them. Also if you are disposing of the old one remember to deauthorise it so you don't use up one of your allowances: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation
*Why can't I just install/open ITunes on my new laptop and my original library be there*
Because your library is just a database that links to the songs on your hard drive, you have to have the songs on the hard drive for iTunes to use them.

  • Can you transfer books on wattpad library to new ipod?

Hi I have a 8G  but it's running out of room I want to change to a new ipod touch with larger Gb, but I have lots of books on my Wattpad library, will all my books remain if I sync them into my new ipod? Please let me now thanks much :D

    What is a Wattpad library?
If you restore the new iPOd from the backup of the old iPod and all the media (apps, music etc.) is in the iTunes library, the new iPod will be like the old iPod but yu will have to reenter all passwords since those only get restored to the same device.

  • Setting up new iPod with my existing iTunes library?

    Hello all --
This may be a simple question, but I just wanted to play it safe. My original iPod (a classic) has more or less died, so I think I'm going to have to buy a new one. I have a rather large iTunes library and want to make sure I can move my song collection to my new iPod (I haven't purchased it yet).
Is there any trick to it? Or, once my computer recognizes the new iPod, can I just simply click-and-drag the songs to the new, empty iPod?
I'm not going to lose any songs, right? The last thing I'd want to do is have to copy all of my songs from my CD to my computer again.
Please let me know. Thanks so much!

You just connect the new iPod. iTunes will actually bring up a dialog asking if you want to sync your iTunes library to the new iPod, and let you name the iPod.
once my computer recognizes the new iPod, can I just simply click-and-drag the songs to the new, empty iPod?
If you want to do it manually and set the iPod to +manually manage music+, you can. Just say no when iTunes asks if you want to sync. But I suggesting using the automatic sync, unless you have a reason for using the manual "drag and drop" method.
Also, you should go into the iPod DEVICE tabs (in iTunes) to set up how you want to handle videos, podcasts, contacts, etc.

    Don't know why you would.
You can sync as many ipods/iphones/ipads as you like.

  • HT204414 how to merge my iPhoto Library into my Photos System Library or how to import photos from iPhoto to Photos?

Can anyone tell me how to merge my iPhoto Library into my Photos System Library or how to import photos from iPhoto to Photos?

How many did you trash at one go? iPhoto will baulk and possibly corrupt if you try trash too many at one go. Expereinced users recommend getting rid of them in batches of about 100 or so.
What's your plan for the remaining images in the iPhoto Library (the 2k photos and 4 videos)?

  • I would like to purchase an ipod for my husband. Can I download songs from my itunes library to his ipod without disturbing my itunes?

I would like to purchase an ipod for my husband. Can I download songs from my itunes library to his ipod without disturbing my itunes?

    Yes Deborah,
Actually it's as smiple as plugging in the iPod and registering it, this will be done by a step by step dialog box when you first plug it in. After that it will show up in your device list on the left side. Just drag the song from the music library in iTunes to the iPod device that is his. You can drag single songs, complete albums or even complete genres. If it is a iTouch you get him, you can also click the music tab on the iTouch device in iTunes when you plug it in and you can just check off artist names or just certain albums. Also on a iTouch on the summary screen you can click the sync with iTouch over Wi-Fi check box and you will no longer have to plug it to the computer to sync. Also, since they are two different devices the music on one will not affect the music on another. This goes for any iOS device, iPods, iTouches, iPhones, and iPads.
    Hope that helps.

You'll need to copy the music from the old iPod back to iTunes first before you can transfer it to your new iPod. See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • Last ipod died and need to synch that ipod library into new one....

My ipod just died (after only a year and 2 months) and I am getting a new one. I am wondering if there is a memory card in ipods that easily syncs to a new ipod?? The computer in which I had all my songs stored recently crashed so the only itunes memory I have is in the, now dead, ipod. Is syncing the old ipod library to the new one something they can do at the apple store when you get a new ipod? any feedback would be appreciated...

"well, I know that if you have your ipod show up in my computer, you can change the folder options to show hidden files, and then there is a folder called music that shows up. However, those files do not show up with the artist, album or song information. But I'm pretty sure you can still just drag that music folder to your desktop then run it through some sort of freeware to restore the info."
You don't need software, just drag the music folder into iTunes as explained here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.

  • Hard drive crashed and has been fixed/replaced, now I have new ipod, log in on itunes, and my library of songs is gone, although I can still see them in my purchase history.  How can I get those songs back!?

My computer has crashed several times since I bought my first ipod in 2005.  Recently, it crashed so badly that my fella who fixed it just wiped everything off it and reinstalled things.  I have a new ipod now and just got my computer back.  I log in to itunes, register my ipod, and, its bad enough that everytime my computer crashes and is fixed that itunes thinks I am connecting yet another computer to my account  (it believes I have four computers/devices but I have only ever had one ipod and one computer simultaneously),. but on top of that, all my songs listed in my purchase history are not in my library. Hundreds of songs.
How can I download them again?  I was told in the Apple Store to deauthorize the computer and reauthorize it and it should begin downloading my previous purchases into my library. I tried that, but to no avail.
    Help anyone?

It is the users responsibility to maintain a backup of their files.
If you have failed to keep a backup, that is not good.
If the content is on your iDevice and it was purchased via iTunes, connect the device (DO NOT SYNC) then select File > Transfer Purchases.
If the content is on the device but was not purchased via iTunes, you're out of luck mostly.  Do a google search, you can find utilities that will allow you to extract the content.
If you are in the US and running iTunes 10.3 or later, there is an option to redownload previously purchased iTunes content.  To do this, in iTunes select Purchased, then at the bottom select Download Previously Purchased.  There are options for Music, Apps, and iBooks.  Select the "Not in My Library" option and download what you want.

  • Can't add itunes library to my ipod etc since installing itunes on my new computer. HELP!

I have just installed itunes on my new PC and am trying to add some songs onto an ipod.  The songs were purchases from the Itunes store.  I go through the process of drag and drop onto the device (its the same with my ipad and iphone) but it won't work.  Since installing itunes on my new computer I have bought an album off itunes and it downloaded with no problems - but any of my old purchases won't transfer over.  Not sure what I am doing wrong.  I haven't as yet transferred over my music libray from my old PC (songs that I burnt )  so not sure if it would be the same.  I would have thought that songs that have been purchased in itunes should easily transfer.  Help please?

Move the files for your new purchases out to the desktop.
Migrate your library properly from your old computer as given below.
Move the files stored on the desktop into the Automatically Add to iTunes folder.
    Migrate iTunes Library
These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.
