Uploading Movies on DVD to iPod

I have been trying to figure this out for a while now and just can't do it. I know that you can burn movies that you buy from iTunes to DVD, but why can't I figure out how to take DVDs that I already own and put them on my iPod? Please help.

If you mean commercially released films or TV shows on DVD I'm afraid that can't be discussed as that involves breaking the encryption on them. Such discussions are against the terms of use. "Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.":

  • Uploading movie from DVD to my hard drive

I have a movie on DVD that I want to put onto my hard drive.
How do I take it from the disc to the hard drive on my computer.
    I am using Nero 12.

All legit DRM compliant CD/DVD/Bluray software such as Nero, are incapable of "ripping" commerially made, copy protected movies. Bypassing copy protection is beyond the scope of this forum and will not be discussed.
Please see the Nero 12 Support Knowledge Base or the Official Nero Forum for information on using your Nero product.

  • How to transfer movies from DVD to Ipod?

Can anyone tell me how to transfer a DVD to my new Ipod. I'm using windows XP-Pro and iTunes Ver 7.3.2.6. Do I need some sort of 3rd party software?

If you are referring to commercially produced DVD movies, unfortunately because of copyright issues discussing this subject is not permitted on Apple's forums as the recently updated Apple Discussions User Agreement now clearly states.
Under item 2, para 8.2 it says "Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store."

  • Uploading movies/videos onto my iPod Touch

    Hey guys,
I was wondering if when they say Videos this is different from movies. I wanted to download Office Space from the iTunes Store but from what I have tried I don't think I can load these onto my Touch. I figured any apple format video would work (.mp4) for example, but when tried to upload a free vid I got from the store it wouldn't work. Then I tired an .mp4 vid I had on my computer and that wouldn't work either.
Does the Touch support these formats? What kind of videos can I upload?
Also can I use a different browser on my Touch that would allow me to download Flash? Or is that pretty much out of the question?
Also I have the 2nd Gen. iPod Touch
    Thanks in advance.

Those options aren't required for video purchased from the iTunes Store. They are useful for video acquired from other sources. The only thing I've ever had to use them for on video content from the iTunes Store are weirdly encoded video podcasts. I currently have four different video capable iPods (5th gen iPod, 3rd gen Nano and both 1st and 2nd gen Touch) and have never had to use those conversion options for purchased contents.
Using those options really isn't going to address whatever the underlying problem is and can take a really long time. Bottom line is that stuff should transfer. If it doesn't, finding the problem may safe a lot of time in the end.
    Best of luck.

  • Copy movie to dvd

can you upload movie to dvd?

Once you've exported to the media browser, close imovie and open iDVD. Depending on how you open iDVD the media browser may hit you in the face or you might have to hit the media tab to unveil it.

  • Getting my dvd to ipod touch

hi, can anyone help im havin trouble finding out how to get my new movies from dvd onto ipod
    thanks all help appreciated

The vast majority of commercial DVDs are encrypted. In the U.S., breaking that encryption, a necessary first step in copying, is illegal. Because of that, the terms of use of these forums prohibit discussions of software or methods. It doesn't matter if you've purchased the DVDs legally. What you didn't buy was the right to copy them.
However, more and more DVDs are coming with a digital download that you can use on your iPod.
    Best of luck.

Go to their support forum and ask-you will get a better answer from people who actually use the program.
It's not a paid for program is it?
A totally free program that rips and converts DVD's for Macs can be found here: http://handbrake.m0k.org/
Why would anyone on a Mac pay for a DVD rip program?

  • How do i upload movies onto itunes?

How do i upload movies onto itunes? can i, or do i have to buy them on ituns? help!

Commercial DVDs can't be transferred to the iPod without programs of dubious legality, and a decent sized PITA.
    Try Google: Dvd to iPod.

  • Comparison for iPod Users: Free Online Converter & DVD to iPod Converter

Compare two channels of obtaining video sources for iPod: one is using online converter, the other is DVD to iPod Converter. After the general introduction of the two methods, I will analyze their advantages and disadvantages for you to choose according to your need.
Part One: Enjoy YouTube (online videos) on iPod
Instruction: a useful website to convert online video freely: http://www.vixy.net/
For vixy, you can just copy the URL of the online video into the “URL” blank of the vixy, then choose the format you want to convert to. Click “Start”. For a short time, the conversion will be finished. You can click the “Download the converted video” to restore the file.
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/vixy.jpg
Advantages: Free online video converter. No software to install. Only a few clicks you can get the converted file after a short while. The most important thing is that online video sources are numerous and original, so you can get the first-hand sources in time through it. Some personal DVs are also shared with you.
Disadvantages: They set limitation of the length and size of the video. The classical movies usually are not on line available. Even if existed, the quality of image and sound is inferiors.
Part Two: Enjoy DVD movies on iPod Touch, iPod Nano, iPod Classic, iPhone, iPhone (3G), Apple TV
We usually bought classical DVD movies for collection or regular watching later, but DVD cannot be copied directly into iPod for us to appreciate it at anytime and anywhere. On this occasion, we need to convert DVD to the format, video and audio settings (Resolution, Bitrate, Frame Rate, etc) supported by your iPod player.
Instruction: the way to convert DVD to iPod: using Aiseesoft DVD to iPod Converter http://www.aiseesoft.com/dvd-to-ipod-converter.html
Install and run Aiseesoft DVD to iPod Converter
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/download/dvd-to-ipod-converter.exe
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/screen.gif
Step 1: Click “Load DVD” button to import your DVD
Step 2: Use “Profile” drop-down list to choose your output format.
Step 3: Click “Settings” for setting your video parameters.
At last click “Start” button to start your conversion.
    More tips:
    1. Merge into One File
If you want to merge the selected contents into one file you can check the "Merge into one file" option. As default the merged file is named after the first selected file (either a title or a chapter)
    2. Movie Effect
You can set the brightness, contrast, saturation of the video and volume of the audio.
    3. Trim Movie
It can help you to capture the segment of your movie.
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/dvd-to-ipod-thread-trim.jpg
    4. Crop Video
You can remove black edge of your DVD movie and get any playing area of the video by using its "Crop Mode" function. You can also select "Zoom Mode" to extrude your video slightly to adjust to your portable devices so you can get the best video quality.
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/dvd-to-ipod-thread-crop.jpg
    5. Take Snapshot
It allows you to capture your favorite pictures from your movie.
Advantages: In this way, you can make full use of your DVD: not only in DVD player, but your iPod player. The function of effecting and trimming allows you to clip the segment of the DVD movies complying with your will. You can enjoy more movies taking full advantage of your spare time while relaxing or traveling.
Disadvantages: DVD movies are usually popular, lacking of individualization. You can not share others' DVs.
With these two ways, we can enjoy the pleasure videos bring to us as much as we like. Have fun!

Depending on what update your iPod is, you may need
to dowload YAMB to make sure the videos play well on
your iPod. If you are watching a converted video on
your iPod and it freezes suddenly and this problem
continues, you need to download YAMB and convert the
files already converted with videora iPod converter
with YAMB, this will only take a few minutes.
I hope this helps you out.
Nope. All that a person with that problem should have to do is just update their iPod firmware to 1.1.1 with the newest updater, as that issue has been resolved in the latest firmware.

  • Movies not playing on Ipod Touch

I purchased a movie directly from the Ipod. The download was successful but every time I try to watch the movie it says "This movie cannot be played" this is the first time I ever tried to watch a movie on it. Please help!

i downloaded a tv episode yesterday (it was free, only reason i did it - normally they're way too expensive & i'd rather buy the dvd instead)
this happened, it wouldn't play until i'd synced it and reloaded the tv ep onto my ipod.

  • We are evaluating the use of iPod touch devices to record best practice videos on our manufacturing floor and to post to an internal Moodle web site. How can you upload a video from the iPod touch to a site other than YouTube?

We are evaluating the use of iPod touch devices to record best practice videos on our manufacturing floor and to post to an internal Moodle web site. How can you upload a video from the iPod touch to a site other than YouTube? The Moodle upload interface is expecting a file selection dialog box like windows or OSX. I do not want to have to go through an intermediary step of messing with a pc.
    Thanks!

It should be around 7 and a half gigs. In iTunes, across the bottom there should be a bar that show how much storage is being used and by what. (music, movies, apps, etc.) To make music take up less room, you can check the box to make it convert the music to 128kbps AAC. This lowers the quality, but with most earbuds and speakers, you can't even tell the difference.
The iPod touch has parental controls built in. You'll find them in Settings. I think they only work for enabling/disabling Safari, Mail, YouTube, and App Store. Here's an app that does more: http://www.mobicip.com/online_safety/ipod_touch

  • How to convert video and dvd for iPod

    1. Download, install and run PQ DVD to iPod Video Converter. It can convert from DVD, Tivo, DivX, MPEG, WMV, AVI, RealMedia and many more to iPod Video.
(PQ DVD to iPod Video Converter Download)
    2. Click "Open ..." button and choose a video file or DVD disc to open. Wait for the movie to start playing in the preview window.
    3. Based on the aspect ration of the video source PQ DVD to iPod Video Converter will choose the best resolution for the output iPod video. Nevertheless you can select a resolution of your choice to stretch/squash the picture. Alternatively, you can choose a Crop Mode to cut unimportant parts of the video (like top/bottom black bars or subtitles).
You can also adjust the desired quality to reduce the output size of the movie.
In the preview window you will see what the resulting movie will look like.
When you have set the desired settings simple click on the "Record it" button to convert the video/DVD.
Depending on the settings a 60 minutes video is converted on average for 15 minutes.
    4. When the process finishes you can test the recorded video file on your PC using QuickTime to see if it works well.
Then launch iTunes, add the recorded file into the library and update iPod (under iTunes' File menu). And have a nice time!
    Additional Settings
    1. Video Settings
    Video Frame Rate
Known as Frame Per Second (FPS). It refers to the number of pictures displayed in 1 second in order to form continuous motions. The default frame rate is 15 fps. You may choose 24fps to get more continuos motions.
When selecting higher fps, increase the movie quality and size a little. This is because more frames need some amount of additional motion data to be stored.
    Brightness Level
Increase the level to make video appear brighter on your iPod screen. The default is level 0 (No brightness change from the original video).
    2. Audio Options
    Audio Quality
There are 6 audio quality modes to choose: 32kbps Mono, 48kbps Mono, 48Kbps Stereo, 64Kbps Stereo, 96Kbps Stereo, 128Kbps Stereo.
Audio Bitrate (in Kbits per second)
Audio bitrate refers to how many data storage is allocated to store audio signals. The higher audio
    bitrate, the better audio quality.
    Audio Volume
You can change output audio volume in "Output Settings" dialog. The default volume level is 5 (original volume).
    Stereo to Mono
When the output audio is set to Mono, you can choose which stereo channel (of input source) to be copied into the Mono channel (output). It is useful for some video sources (e.g. VCD) which use the left, right channels for different languages or for karaoke.
    3. DVD subtitle(subpicture), language
It is recommended to use the native DVD menu in the preview panel to set subtitle(subpicture) and language. (Click "DVD menu" button on the right to show native DVD menu in the preview panel) You may also change the subtitle(subpicture), language in the program's Options menu, but there are some DVDs that require the change must be made in the native DVD menu instead of the program's menu.

Thank you for your posting, which is very helpful, however it will be better if you can post on the Video forum as well

By the way, I must say that it is a very good post

  • Best DVD to iPod Converter

I just got a New iPod video and I was looking for some advice for the best DVD to iPod Converter. The two programs that I have been looking at are
1.) Super DVD to iPod Converter and
2.) PQ DVD to iPod Video Converter
Both of them run around $30 and boast that they are the fastest. Anyone have any input?

Well, I'll disagree. I've used quite a few and to me, PQ DVD is by far the best. It records all DVD's, not just ones that aren't encrypted. All of them are slow, pretty much 1:1 when doing a movie. Meaning, if your video is a hour long, it's going to take an hour to do it. I just start it before I go to bed. I don't really know why support is needed- it is an extremely simple program to use. Personally, the how long have they been around thing doesn't mean a hill of beans to me. It works, it's simple, and affordable.
