Uploading non-iTunes videos to iPod

Hey all
ok so i've been uploading no itunes videos to my ipod no prob but when i go to GET INFO> OPTIONS> Video Kind of a paticular video and i set it to TV SHOW, when i upload to iPod i cant find it, but i change it MOVIE i can see and play the video. I just want to put my tv shows in the TV SHOWS subfolder on the ipod, anyone have any ideas how to make this work.
ie, Scrubs episode 504 want to put it under TV Shows option on ipod but wont go there have to keep video kind as MOVIE.
Thanks guys!!

Hey guys,
Stayed up most of the night figuring this one out...!
The new iTunes has added a bunch of tags to the new video mp4s. One of those tags designates the TV Show that the video pertains to. This is different from and in addition to the 'Artist' and 'Album' tags.
You can view this tag by arranging your video files in List format in iTunes and selecting 'TV Shows' at the top of the screen.
The stupid thing is, iTunes doesn't let you change these tags. Hopefully, the next version will fix that...
So, you'll have to download a program that lets you edit these tags. I used a program called AtomicParsley (for Windows XP). I think you can find it at http://atomicparsley.sourceforge.net. There are some others for OSX, I think. Do a good enough internet search and you'll find one.
AtomicParsley edits the tags by creating a whole new file (which can take a while depending on the size of the file), then overwriting the old one. iTunes takes a minute to recognise the changes. You can clue it in by right-clicking on the file.
You'll actually be able to edit tags for season and episode numbers, and those will carry through to the iPod when you update it.
Anyway, good luck.

  • Save non Itunes videos to IPOD?

How can I save some videos, say from YOUTUBE.com to my IPOD (30gb)?

You must have the video saved to your hard drive first.
You then use a transcoding/converter to change the format of the video into one the iPod accepts.
    One of these:
H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats

  • How to upload non itunes lectures on ipod classic?

I am trying to load some philosophy lectures on my ipod. Unfortunately these lectures are not available in tunes. Any help is much appreciated

    Dear B-rock,
    Thank youfor your kind offer.
When I tried to drag lectures/ import folder/files it looked like it moved to the library but did not attach as I could not see it in the library. I then syncronized hoping that it took it into the library.
Last night, I connected my ipod to the computer and ipod was on F:drive. I looked into into the F drive and could see the files but for some reason it does not attach to library so it can be syncronized.
I think I know why this is the case. It looks like the files in the lectures of Professor Richard Winfield are stored as MPEG files even though it says that it is MP3. Apple may not be able to read MPEG files. My bad.
Thank you again for your offer. If it is an easy solution I would still be interested but its a shame that such good knowledged  can not be shared.
I will be travelling for the next two weeks so if I do not reply it is not i am rude. I just would not have the time
    Thanks again and best regards

  • Non-Itunes Videos

as a hobby i make movies at home and at school. most are saved as windows media files and i was wondering if there is anyway that i could but them (or any other non-itunes videos) onto my ipod. i tried just importing then like they were songs hoping they would convert but it wont work. im guessing this is more complicated... thanks for any help

BLD, you require a program to convert your files to meet the IPOD's specs for playing video, which are:
IPod can play the following video formats:
    H.264 video
File formats: .m4v, .mp4 and .mov
Video: Up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3
Audio: AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 KHz, stereo audio
    MPEG-4 video
File formats: .m4v, .mp4 and .mov
Video: Up to 2.5 Mbps, 480 x 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile
Audio: AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 KHz, stereo audio
Go here and try their Trial version and ses if it works. It handles all my WMV, AVI and MPEG 1/2 files perfectly.

  • Can't synch video files, video podcasts or convert iTunes video to iPod vid

I don't know what has changed recently - I don't recall a new version of iTunes being installed but I am on iTunes 9.1.0.79 under WindowsXP.
I am no longer able to synch video podcasts which have been downloaded via Juice and video from iTunes-subscribed podcasts which were both in the right format and synching happily before whatever it was that changed, changed.
In addition, I cannot right-click and convert video to iPod format - that option isn't there. It has either gone (boo) or the video IS in iPod format in which case why isn't it synchcronising?
I've spent many hours now trying to work out what's changed, gone wrong, what kind of settings need to be changed to get back to where I was.
    HALP!

I'm having the same issues! I used to be able to convert video, but that option is no lnoger there. My video is in a Quicktime format(which I thought was supposed to be compatible with itunes anyway) and it won't play.
And since when aren't you allowed to email customer support?? They want me to pay a min of $29 to have an analyst call me at my convenience? Bunch of greedy bastards!

  • Putting non-purchased videos on ipod

I have a Mac, and i have videos already on my computer before i bought my ipod. Can i put videos which haven't been purchased from itunes onto my ipod??
    Cheers

hey, i dont have a mac, i have windows. would iSquint still work on my computer? if it does, could you email it to me also, that would help a lot. i used quicktime pro, and when it goes to my ipod, video doesn't show up, only the sound. so it would be real helpful if you could give me iSquint. If anybody else has a program they could send to me that would work on Windows that would be great. my e mail is [email protected]

  • Itunes videos  on ipod

After i updated my itunes to 6 on my pc (winxp sp2) i hadn't connected my ipod for a few days so after experimenting with the video option a loaded afew videos i had on my HD to itunes and all is ok, until i checked my smartlist for my ipod all of a sudden the videos appeared on the list why? i do not know, i don't have a video ipod so will itunes try to update my ipod with the videos?

ITunes handles the videos as if they were "normal" tracks, therefore they also appear in playlists.
To have them excluded, you'll need to put an additional criteria to the smart playlist, such as, "Kind contains: Quicktime Video file" (or similar).
One way or another, videos shouldn't show up on your iPod at all. iTunes won't sync them, unless you connect a video iPod.

  • Uploading purchased iTunes songs onto iPod

    Hi there,
Can anyone help me, everytime I try to upload my purchased iTunes songs onto my iPod an error message comes up saying I am not authorised to play these tracks on my computer and the tracks do not upload.
    Thanks.

I'm having the same problem - getting an error message telling me that my iPod - which I have updated with most recent iTunes software - cannot play the music I've purchased. What was your solution? What did you figure out? Would appreciate any help.

  • Problems playing itunes videos continuosly in Full Screen

    Hi guys,
I have a small problem. I started to buy Videos in itunes music store and building my own MTV. So far, so good. My problem started when I started to buy some DVDs, converting the videos to MP4 format and then adding them to my itunes library. I have kept the same resolution than the original itunes videos, but I have changed the frame rate to have a little bit more quality.
When I select a video, iTunes plays it in full screen (as it is selected in the preferences). If the second video is another original iTunes, it continues in full screen. But as soon as one of the non iTunes videos starts, it goes to the main window and plays the video in the small section at the bottom-left of the screen (selected as "Now Playing"). Then, the next video goes back to full screen, even if it is a non-itunes one. It is very anoying since I have to put it back in Full screen manually.
Does anybody have the same issue? I am using the last release and patch level of Mac OS and itunes. I think that it might be related with the way that I imported the videos (using Handbrake 7). May be I need to use exactly the same format that Apple uses in itunes. Does anybody knows the exact video format that Apples uses? Do you think that it may be related with issue?
One last point. I have experienced the same problem in two different Macs. One Power PC and one Intel... I have already given up...
Thanks in advance for your help,
    G. Acilu

    I HAVE THE SOLUTION!
I too was experiencing non-full screen playback between music videos / movies. I discovered that this only happened if I had en EQUALIZER setting for the music video / movie. Once I had NONE as the EQUALIZER setting my music videos / movies all played back full screen from one to the next.
Change your settings in the equalizer column as suggested and see if this works for you. It solved my problem, although I do not have my desired equalizer settings in operation!

  • Have Apple prevented uploading what's on an iPod to an empty iTunes?

Im getting lost in the maze of help topics... Can anyone tell me if I can retrieve my iTunes library from my iPod? My laptop recently fried so I bought a new one, however I now have no back-up library for what's already on my iPod...
Have Apple actually prevented the user from uploading what's on an iPod to an empty iTunes library??!

Have Apple actually prevented the user from uploading what's on an iPod to an empty iTunes library??!
It was (and still is) only ever possible to transfer iTunes purchases from iPod to iTunes. However, there are ways of transferring other non Tunes purchases. Read on.
Be very careful when connecting an iPod full of music to an empty iTunes library. There is very real risk of permanently losing all the music.
To prevent auto sync, before you connect the iPod go to the iTunes preferences and select "devices", then select "disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods".
An alternative method is to connect the iPod whilst holding down the 'control+shift' keys and do not let them go until your iPod appears in iTunes.
If you see a message that your iPod is associated with a different library and asks if you want to link to a new one, make sure you press "Cancel".
If you should click on "Erase and Sync" will erase all the content currently on your iPod and it will be replaced with the content of the iTunes library you just connected to.
When you've pressed cancel your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list under "devices" and allow you to change the update setting to manage the iPod content manually, and that will let you use your iPod for the time being without the risk of accidentally erasing the contents.
Then do any of the following to transfer your music from iPod back to the computer/iTunes.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola and iDump and iPodRobot.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • Problem Faced while uploading videos to ipod

I cant seems to upload new videos into my ipod.
    the error message:
"The ipod cannot be updated. An unknown error has occurred (-50).
    What should i do?
I just got my ipod the day before. so.. i'm very new to my ipod.
Anyone able to help me or tell me how to solve this problem?
Previously i have uploaded a few videos and it was working fine..

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
This usually occurs when your iPod is set to manually manage songs and playlists. Try setting your iPod to automatically update. Also, try dragging the videos to the iPod (under Source on the left of iTunes).

  • Problem: Uploading Video To iPod

Ok here's the issue. 8 times out of 10 when I connect my iPod via USB, it does not give me the option to upload video to my iPod. I would click on the "iPod Options" where you can select Automatically update this and that... and I only see four standard options (Music PodCast Contacts Notes). 2 out of 10 times, it would give me the other options (Photos Videos) and then I can upload videos no problem. But the majority of time, it does not give me this option. I have to continue to remove the iPod from the USB repeatedly until I luckily happen to land on a time when it will allow me to upload video.
And when, during that 8 out of 10 times when I don't get the option to upload video, it removes all video from the iPod so I can no longer view them! How can I get this thing consistant!
Why is this happening? How can I get this thing to be consistant in allowing me to upload videos?

    hiya!
... okay ... this might be a symptom of a USB connection issue. if your USB connection is flaky to precisely the right degree, itunes can sometimes actually see a video ipod (or a nano) ... but it misidentifies it as an earlier version of ipod (without some of the capabilities of the nano, or the video ipod). sometimes, for example, this can cause the photo tab to go missing in the ipod preferences in itunes.
does the ipod icon in the itunes sourcelist look any different during the times you do get video capability from the times when you don't? if so, you might have one of these weird misidentification issues.
if so, some of the general ipod/USB-troubleshooting techniques might be useful:
