Art ~ I'm inclined to agree with you — MobileMe isn't so reliable.

  • Password protected site

I am working with iWeb 1.1.2 and have a password protected site. It was working fine, but I have now changed the user name and the password and I canʻt access it online any more! The user name has 7 letters with 1 being capitalized. The password has 9 characters which includes 1 capital letter, 1 number, and 7 lower case letters. When I try signing on to the site online using Safari, I get a message saying "The user name or password you entered for area “me.com” on web.me.com:80 was incorrect. Make sure you’re entering them correctly, and then try again." What am I doing wrong? Please help! Aloha, Jill

  • Cannot publish new password protected sites to MobileMe using iWeb

Recently been getting the familiar iWeb error messages when publishing from iWeb to mobile me:
"There was an error updating MobileMe"
"An error occurred while publishing file '/Web/Sites/Sites.rss"
"Publish error: An unknown error occurred"
Did all the troubleshooting stuff detailed here - problem persists.
Today, tho', I've just noticed that these errors *only occur when I'm trying to publish a new password-protected site or trying to apply password-protection to an existing unprotected site*.
It works just fine when publishing a site which is not password-protected. It is also possible to modify an existing password-protected site without any trouble.
There's nothing odd about the passwords - all legal characters etc.
It would be better for me and my users if I could have password protection on my sites. Without passwords, I'm left relying on 'security by obscurity' - not ideal.
    What can I do?

You could split up your single Domain file into several Domain files each containing a group of sites. You'll have to duplicate (via Finder) the Domain file usually located here:
...and then double-click one of the copies to open it in iWeb. Then delete the site(s) you don't need from it. Repeat the process until you have a more manageable group of Domain files each containing several (or just one) site(s). Note that this process is not easily reversible, i.e. merging Domain files. Read more in Chapter 2 here:
    http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebMultiplewebsites.html
With "many, many sites", this splitting process is not without risk — so before doing anything, don't forget this:

  • IWeb had a password protected site capability. Now what can I use that gives me an equivalent functionality?

    Greetings All,
I took over the web site for a club using iWeb. This worked great for several years (2009 to June 30, 2012). I still use iWeb today (minus the password protected members only portion). We have a need for a members only section of the website that is password protected. I put our records, roster, financial notes, members visual directory, etc behind this password protected site. I used iWeb and it was very easy. I have not had this functionality since July 1, 2012 with the demise of mobile me. This is very important to our club and I want to know what other product I can use to make a website with password protection? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Brandon

As Roger has already stated, this password protection needs to be set up on your server directly with the loss of this function with the demise of MobileMe.
There is another alternative however and that would be to re-build/transfer your site to one of the Content Management Systems, such as Joomla, Drupal or WordPress.org if your web host offers this facility.  Most good web hosts will allow you to install the CMS's on your server and some have one click installation available.
It is very easy to set up password protected parts of your site using a Content Management System such as Joomla, because it is linked to a database that you need to link to.  If you install it manually on your host, then you need to set up the database too and then link together, but most now have one click install, where the database is set up for you automatically - not as much flexibility like this over a manual install, but you can set up protected areas of the site and allow memebers to join and set up parts of the site that only members can get to. You can also set up different grades of membership too, so some can see some parts and others not.
If your site is in need to a revamp then consider this, otherwise stick with iWeb and just set up password protection directly on your server.

  • Password protected site and gallery: no go

    Hi,
i'm trying to publish a password protected site to mobileme. The site will contain links to mobileme galleries (password protected too).
first issue: i can't add a protected gallerie to iweb, iweb doesn't show it. After removing the protection ("visible to everone") it works. After setting up the site, i turned on the protection again.
Now my browser ask for the password for every gallery on the page (it's the same user and password for every gallery and the site).
I don't think, that my visitors will like that...

  • I have a password protected site in iweb, but how do I get my users to "sign out" so there not always logged in

I built a password protected site in iweb and its published through mobileme. How do I get users to "sign out" so there not always logged in

I wouldn't bother really - it would be best to concentrate your efforts now on finding another web host that you can move your site to because after the end of June this year, publishing to MobileMe won't be an option.
Have a look at GoDaddy, HostExcellence etc. and you can still password protect your website, but you just do this through your host/server rather than MMe.
Start looking now before it's too late!

  • Password protected site access problem

I get the following message when I create a password protected site using iWeb '08...
To view this page, you need to log in to the area "me.com" on web.me.com:80
I can't access the page in any browser without a MobileMe/.Mac password to open iDisk. I was planning on launching this site with students tomorrow so they can access my lecture podcasts securely on my site. I can't give them access to my iDisk password obviously. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same issue when trying to share my gallery. No one can access. Did you find the answer to your issue please ? Thanks

  • Password Protected Sites

Does contribute allow for HTTP authentication?
We work on password protected development sites first and then publish. The password protected sites are what we would be accessing using Contribute for content editing.  THanks.
    Beth

Try closing Safari and your other browsers, relaunch them and try accessing again. If you still can try logging out of MobileMe in the System/MobileMe preference pane and try again. It may be that you have access because you're logged in. Just a guess.
It shouldn't have anything do to with the iWeb version. Try creating a test site, protect it and publish. Now try accessing again. If you can post the site's URL here and we'll see if we can also.

  • Could not open password protected site.

iWeb 09 doesn't allow capital letters in usernames for password protected sites. My site had been built using 08 and it would not open. I republished using iWeb 09 and no caps and it now works.

  • Creator Startup problem: Password Protected Site

Hi, does anyone know why this happens. I've been using this version of creator for a few months and now every time I startup it pops up a box with the title Password Protected Site and asks for a username and password. If I keep pressing cancel it goes away but I need to do that like 20 times. I've tried my sun developer password - doesn't work either. Does anyone know what the password is?

    Hey,
after installing Netbeans 5.5 in a VMware environment (Version 5.5, Host: Ubuntu 6.10, Guest-OS: Windows XP) i was able to reproduce this problem.
In my environment i'm behind a proxy, which is automatically configured via Internet Explorer.
After getting this weird "Password protected site" popup i remembered cealex solution and tried my Proxy authentication. Et voila. it worked (i had to put it in twice!!!). So i think, whenever it has a network connection it tries to download new contents for "Articles & News" and "Blogs".
I feel that it is just a weird popup header ... ;-)
I'm also a newbie to Netbeans.

  • Logout of password protected site?

I have a one of several websites (iweb) that is password protected. The password protection is working fine. However once I access the site using the password it seems to remain unprotected indefinitely or until I quit and restart the browser. I'm wondering if there is a way to logout of the protected site after viewing it so that others using the computer after me will not have access to the password protected site.
    thanks,
    JIm

What is happening is a cookie is being added to the visitors browser that allows return visits without having to log in again. There may be a way to delete the cookie with javascript added to the site (I'm guessing here) and if anyone would know how it would by Cyclosaurus. Find a post by him and ask.

  • Unable to login to password protected sites

Using Safari Version 3.0.4 (5523.10.6) I am unable to log-in to password protected sites like Facebook, Yahoo Mail and Google Mail. Each attempt directs me back to the log-in page for these sites.
The only way to gain access, is to quit Safari and re-launch.
Has anyone else had/seen similar problems with Safari..?

On the page where you enter username and password after entering and pressing "Log in" the page just stays in place. If you look at the error log you see
"Warning: Unknown property 'border-radius'. Declaration dropped.
