Uploading photos with with digital camera.
Can photos be uploaded from a canon 50D without using all the software uploads that come with this camera? My previous point and shoot canon did just fine with the built in mac photo software. Selling stuff on the web so high tech issues not needed.
Have the same question but with a nikon. Just bought the Nikon Coolpix s220. I had a sony camera and before I upgraded to snow leopard I would just connect the camera and it would work just fine. I recently reformatted my hard drive and put snow leopard on my imac and thats when the problems started. Now in order to get my pics off my camera I must take the card out and use the usb reader on my printer. It works just fine, but shouldn't work when I just plug the camera into the usb port? I don't want to use the software that came with the computer. If thats the cause of my problems then oh well. At least I will have an answer.

I am trying to upload photos from my digital camera. Every time I try to plug it into my USB, the following error message comes up: "Because a usb device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled."
I don't have anything else plugged into my MBP, so I am confused as to what's going on. This problem has never happened before. MBP is less than a year old - about 9 months old. HELPGet a powered USB hub.

Interfacing java application with digital camera

I've a question and I need your help.
I've my swing/javafx application and I need to interface it with a digital camera.
How should I proceed? How can I understand which digital camera offers support for java integration?
Do you have some model for me?
ThanksI don't know anything about using Java directly with digital cameras. However I have a few observations. When you say you want to interface Java with a digital camera, do you mean you just want to display the image in a Java application? If so, you can use the software that came with the digital camera to download the images as *.jpeg (or whatever) to the hard disk. Then you can use Java to easily read the files from the hard disk and display them or move them to some other location. For instance, when you display them in Java, then you can then ask the user to fill out various textfields to go along with the image such as giving a title to the image or a description.
If instead you want to write Java to grab the images from the camera directly, I think that's a bad idea. I imagine different digital cameras have uniquely written custom software to communicate between the digital camera and say, Windows 7 (I'm guessing). I doubt all the manufacturers have agreed upon a common way to communicate. Therefore if you take this route, you will end up creating a large set of Java programs to communicate with each model of camera. A maintenance nightmare.
However, I have seen applications such as taking passport photos that appear to communicate directly with a digital camera wired to the computer which I imagine the vendor supplied with the application. -
I work with a Mac & I had to restore my computer for my time machine back-up. When I attempt to open/edit a photo with either camera raw or photoshop I get the following error message: Error 150:30 , it also sys that licensing for the product has stopped working?
Unfortunately when Adobe products are restored from backup, especial CS4 and especially Mac, it breaks licensing.
There is a python script included in the license recovery kit that should work if you are familiar with Terminal.
If not, you must reinstall your CS4 suite. You don't need to delete your preferences, so it should be the same as before.

when I upload photos with the ipad2 card reader it uploads three the photos three times into three albums: "last Imported", all imported" and the "file name". What if i only want the album once? rwb
There is only one copy of each imported photo. The photos are not duplicated.
For those who import photos regularly, the last import may be important to them instead of all imported photos being available in All Imported.
All imported photos are stored in All Imported. The photos in Last Imported include a pointer to the original photos stored in All Imported. The photos are not duplicated, just as placing a song in an iTunes playlist does not duplicate the song. -

Thanks for your excellent tip. It works just as you said. The WHY I want to do this is:
when I want to print a lot of pictures, I take my memory card to Longs Drug store and use their "machine." Naturally, I want to have all the photos I need on the card.
A few days ago at Longs, I edited about 75 photos of a recent family reunion from my 512MB SD card taken with my Canon PowerShot A510. I ended up ordering 198 4x6 prints. My daughter had several good reunion photos on her digital camera. She e-mailed me seven photos as attachments, thus they were on my computer, but not on my memory card, until I started dragging as per the hint from Colin Walls.
Windows Explorer shows the file structure on the card as one DCIM folder, with subfolders 155 CANON, 156 CANON, 157 CANON, 158 CANON, and CANONMSC. I proceeded to drag each my daughter's seven photos from PS Elem. 4 Organizer to the folder 158 CANON, except that I dragged one to the folder CANONMS, by mistake.
The good news is that Longs machine and PS Elem. 4 both see ALL the photos on the card. The bad news is that my camera does not see the added photos, nor does the Canon ZoomBrowser 3.2 and 5.5 programs,nor the Picasa2 program.

I cannot download photos from my digital camera (via a cable) to Iphoto (version '09). I have been able to do this successfully up til 4 days ago but not yesterday (Dec. 25th). My camera/device is recognized in the Source List, but when it tries to download the photos, all I get are the words "Loading Photos" in the area where the thumbnail pictures usually display. The little "gear" symbol next to the words but it just goes round and round. Nothing ever downloads, and instead of showing me how many pictures there are to import it just says "No photos". So therefore I cannot import the photos to my library since they won't even download.
I was getting an error message a few days ago that my Iphoto library was getting full, so I emptied my trash in both Iphoto and on my computer. I had this same problem back in October and emptying the trash and getting rid of some photos did help (can I really be using that much storage space for the pictures?). But it didn't help this time.
Any suggestions as to what to do to solve the problem? I would try taking the SD card out and inserting that into the slot on the computer to see if I could load pictures that way; but the last time I did that, they wouldn't load. Not sure if I lost pics from the disc or not.

Novice501. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.
How much free space on it now? -
Downloading photo directly from digital camera to zen microph
Is it possible to download photos from my digital camera to my zen microphoto without my computer? Or is there another (small) hardward that would work? I'm traveling to asia and would like to store my photos but I'm not taking my computer.
I don't think it's possible to do it with a Creative player, but I've seen a few relati'vely low-cost portable hard disks that transfer directly from a camera or flash card.
Another possibility is just buy one or more large ( GB+) memory cards for your camera. -
when trying to download photos from my digital cameras I keep getting the message that pics can't be downloaded because of an "unrecognizable format". It shows that they are all jpeg files. One camera is a Canon, the other a Panasonic. I have had these cameras for a few years and have never had a problem downloading.
I am having the same problem which has happened very infrequently before. Generally it's one photo and happened when my battery died.
However today I tried to download six photos.
None would download including several others for a total of 21 that would not download.
Since I had just installed a new powered hub and added three new external 4T hard drives, I got concerned that it was the hub. Then got really worried that I'd have problems with the data I have been backing up.
However following this sequence of events, I've determined it's not the hub, but still don't know what is causing the problem.
(1) Put a fresh battery in the camera - same results
(1.5) Used a different port in the new hub - same results
(2) Put the card in the card slot in the back of my iMac - no problems except that one image I knew about last week. The six new images imported.
(3) Tried again using the cable - still same error
(4) Changed cables - my husband has the same camera - still same error
(4) Put the card in his camera with his cable - still same error
(5) Put the card in a card reader and used the same slot in the new hub - no problems - same one wouldn't import but message that there are no new photos to import.
(6) Moved the offending one image to the Trash while the card was in the card reader
(7) Put the card back into my camera and used my cable. iPhoto had no error and displayed the message there are no new photos.
Conclusion:
Not the camera
Not the cable
Not the hub
Must remove bad photo from the card
However, I have not had to do that before. I went through several imports on vacation when there was one bad image and just ignored it each time.
Any idea why this is happening now?

I am unable to load photos from a digital camera
With a new version of iPhoto (9.2.3) just downloaded onto a MacBook Pro runnning 10.6.8, i cannot load photos from a digital camera - - its says loading but nothing happens even after an hour or so when the camera battery dies - It worked fine from an iphone but only after various repairs as suggested on other posts. I have carried out disk repairs and deleted plists. Can anyone help?

I was able to drag all the folders over and tried importing from desktop. This showed that the very first photo file was empty and iPhoto wouldn't recognise it. The rest transfered over again and I was able to clear content of the SD card
(BTW, surely iPhoto should say the file can't be imported rather than hanging up indefinitely, as an older version would have done. Whilst I am a Mac fan, it's taken me around 8 hours to get iphoto loading images, around 3 to get them off an iPhone 3G - with the old version this was never a problem) -
Hello, I just successfully copied my iPhoto (v.9.5.1) library to my WD My Book external hard drive. Then I uploaded photos from my various cameras (Canon Powershot & Canon SLR) to the My Book iPhoto only. It seemed successful and I was able to move some around & organize my events - seeing the pictures and even sending them through the iPhoto send program. But today when I reopen the My Book iPhoto, many of my pictures are missing (mostly the ones from the Canon SLR). I see the newly made events, but they have 0 pictures! I have shut down, disconnected the drive, reconnected & restarted = same thing. Can anyone tell me how to recover these photos? (They are still on the cameras' memory cards, so all is not lost!)
thank you!andrea, don't work with your iPhoto libraries at all, until you have freed a considerable amount of disk space on your Mac. Each iPhoto crash due to lack of disk space can leave you iPhoto library corrupted, and you cannot run a library repair with only 7GB of space available.
First free space by moving large media files of your drive, and then continue to trouble shoot your library.
The WD My Book was properly formatted & partitioned into 1TB (a Super Duper backup of my whole MacBook Pro) & 2TB (the place I plan to house all my photos/videos & work from to be able to get them off the computer hard drive).
How are you planning to backup the partition with your media (videos, photos)? Do you have a second drive to back them up also? -

The photo part is rather self-explanatory. as long as your photos are in the right format and with the right naming convention they should import right over. The video may be a bit more tricky. So you may want to do some more research and make sure your camera records a format the iPad will import and whether or not you need an app such as iMovie -
Just recently, I went to import some photos from my digital camera into my iPhoto 7.1.5 version on my Mac. All I am getsting is the amount of pictures on the camera in the shape of blank picture holders on the screen. I hooked up the same camera to our son's mac and it has no problem importing pictures. I had some on a USB stick and am having the same problem.
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there? -
I can't import my photos from my digital camera (Sony) to my iPad, this problem is recent. I have imported photos without problem a problem before. Is this problem due to the IOS 6 update? How can I fix it?
I have the same problem and apple needs to fix this - but in the mean time you can manually select the vertical photos then "import - import selected" and you can get your verticals. We need a better fix. THIS IS A BUG!

iphoto will not import my photos from my digital camera because it says it is having a problem downloading my photos. I'm using the same digital camera I have always had and have the current version of iphoto and am using snowleapord 10.6.8. Any thoughts?
